Let's take a day for the new one, Chapter 41's first half is live and it has a vibe with which I can jive. We don't have a whole lot in the way of funny panels this time but the atmosphere is just great. Everyone's hanging out at Cora's with the Donquixopticon Chamber that does have an equally corny name for realsies. Playing Daifugo and scheming for investigating Doffy's involvement with a Dark Bingo Tournament. No, it's not as much of a reference in Japanese. I got hopeful. These kind of moments are great though, lot of nice gags. I love how everything is interspersed with card plays, Daifugo is a fun game. Fruits Basket has it pop up and the old Tokyopop volume had the rules. Convinced a group of friends to play on a school trip once. Very fun memory. Get a load of Luffy cheating!

Where this gets cool is we do break up into teams based on the game. Worth mentioning it by the way, you could call it like "Tycoon" or "Millionaire." As a game it has a theme of wealth disparity and caste. So legitimately interesting to juxtapose with the Donquixote Brothers' origin story as well as what we potentially set up. Reminds me a little of both how we use Hawkins's tarot cards and the Go board in Wano. That's all the symbolic meaning for now, if it shows up again and terms are flummoxing someone gracious enough to translate, shoot me a DM. Moving on. New World parody, gotta split the party. One half will tail Doffy...and the other will investigate Onigashima Middle. Here's our groups:

Well how about that? Miss Nami who mentioned having Kiku's contact info, Miss Robin who pondered how much she'd know, and Miss Vivi who was part of actually saving the day around Yamato's trip to the carnival are all on the Onigashima team. The team notably without someone in that guide role Cora's in for the party crashers. So surely we're about to have some girl time with your new tol buddy. Does Kiku get a nice cardigan like y'all have? I bet she'd like it. Recall our theory is that based on established norms and uniforms, it seems Kiku might already be a New World Middle student like Izo.

Chopper can come too and honestly I'm down with Brook being a part of this. I uh, wouldn't mind checking off finding out how our girl reacts to being propositioned about seeing her underwear while we're at it. Seriously though, high chance our most precious flower of Wano's much more obviously foreshadowed return in this series feels quite imminent.

Since the other team is going to like, a gathering of something that sounds way too much like the Black-Black Club for this not actually ending up being a YYH reference I wonder if Big Mom will work her way in. Totally would make sense with what we have set up. Is a little weird to have Doffy rubbing elbows with her over Kaido but he was always the broker for everyone it seemed. Wouldn't mind seeing schoolboy Perospero, we know Pudding in a sailor suit will be cute, and if I get Katakuri & Corazon in the same panel I know I'mma break reaction records again. Not to mention Jinbei's absence has been a lil fishy. I love where this is all heading, seems like it'll be really fun.

Hello! I’m alive! I’ve been working on a spooky line-up of fics for you all! I know I only did a few last year, but this year a new fic will be posted every day in October! Starting tonight to officially kick-off spooky season! Perona and Hawkins could be friends. Perona would like Hawkins' aesthetics and would listen to her talk about tarot; while Hawkins, although more reserved, would like Perona's directness and found her ability quite interesting. They probably have tea parties where they talk about their partners but they wouldn't admit it xD

Izo and Mihawk are just happy that they are making friends (them being the newest members of the Dirty Old Man club (TM).

One Piece Chapter 981

It’s nice seeing the differing views of the Worst Generation. Most of them have already tried and failed at battling the Yonko and Apoo is one of the first that seems to accept that there is nothing that can be done about it, or so he says. Hawkins is a bit of a different story since he did it more for safety, his actual views on the matter aren’t clear. In any case Luffy, Law and Kid still believe that they can overthrow everything. Bege seems to be in the same mindset but who knows what he’ll be doing now, the cover story isn’t really about him after all. 

I cannot even with these dorks. Luffy, Zoro and Kid just passing the blame on who was making a mess was just a good laugh. Killer does not get paid enough for this shit, good thing he’s got a good head on his shoulders.

Protective Kid is good. Luffy yelling at Kid to stop causing a scene is just so funny for some reason. Oof someone mentioning that it’s a gathering of the Worst Generation at Onigashima is making me hope that Hawkins will show up later. I don’t mind whatever side he decides to fight with but I want some more time to see his powers since I find his devil fruit interesting, I bet he has loads of different variations of attacks since they seem to be tarot based.

Who they want to get rid of in the Tobi Roppo??? It likely seems to be Drake but from the brief encounters earlier it seems a few of the members barely tolerate each other. Curious... not sure if Queen and Who's who want to get rid of the same person.

OMG Chopper just keeps bumping into Big Mom. His face when she opened the window had me cackling. But that last spread though! I was waiting for Nekomamushi to join and I freaking knew he would have Izo with him but seeing Marco made me so happy. I’m assuming he decided to join up since the Shichibukai system was abolished and the chances of Weevil and his mom finding Whitebeard’s village was lowered as they’ll be busy fending off the marines.

I almost feel bad for the Big Mom pirates, they just keep dropping down when they’re so close to Wano haha. I can’t wait for next week, are we back to a weekly schedule?

Perfect Timing

We have a third actress in the mix too don't we? Another one building off seeds in Thriller Bark who's story includes something around a marriage and a theme of duality. Hey, this one's even got a little secret about her body she's sensitive about too! Remember that bit with Cindry and performer themed characters breaking narrative “rules?” Way to go Miss Pudding, I like you pulling double duty with your own cover story! Lovely way of playing with time.

Bare minimum a good chance to delve into how WCI and Wano thematically tie together...but we were just talking about how Blackbeard’s scenes are almost always a mirror of Luffy's current journey.

That thread doesn't need much more than building off of what's already been said. Last arc had a "Bad End" involving leaving behind a young lady on a sad note. While she fills a different role on paper, Blackbeard has captured said girl and has her stowed away on his ship. I like a couple of subtleties of this scene though. First you have the lovely use of the “Tower” type line from Vasco the jailer here. That was the tarot we explained, right? But also this nice little wrinkle of Law’s crew and Blackbeard’s not knowing anything about their naval proficency. Like us the readers but it’s something in universe characters may not have as much trouble with. 

Before going any further, I’d be remiss if I didn’t take any chance to manifest this. Oda, I won’t just accept a legendary callback to the scene (we already referenced recently) right before bringing Robin on. I'd love it. What got them calling Zoro awful names like four-swords back then? Telling them they should have just kidnapped Vivi if they wanted her so bad. Just saying...that works. It’d be a fun parallel to Dressrosa and Neko would help them plan it. Regardless, Pudding:

Pudding is a part of this whole...whatever you want to call it with Cindry and Kiku. Convention-defying actresses who can’t be tied down to one man or one cohesive folklore reference. We see her for the first time right around introducing the Tamataebako as our undersea adventure winds down, it interrupts her wedding destroying a big ol tower, then Kiku picks up the latter half of Urashima Taro's tale. Many of the same themes apply. Might have some more fun with that later. Finally, there was one more thing from 1064 that has Thriller Bark on my mind:

We're specifically calling attention to Luffy's old guy form being the "bad future" from the SBS. Harmless fun potentially but then again, what was Moria's role? A premonition of the ruinous road you're on. The "Subverted Sabaody" idea certainly feels strong right now. And I like this funky stuff with using the cover story and SBS in chapter. We've been slowly trickling light meta beats like that in recently, Kiku & Izo getting a couple of good ones. If nothing else, I get adorable scruffy teen Jinbei and that makes me happy.

Remember to make your questions open ended. I also don’t mind if you offer some context or background for your questions because that helps to give me an idea of what to focus on.

I am now offering specific types of readings with different numbers of cards. When emailing me about a reading, be sure to put which type of reading you are requesting in the subject line. The two types of readings offered include

General Reading: consist of 3 cards being pulled for advice on general topics

Year Ahead Reading: consist of 11 that explores important themes and challenges to consider as you go in the next twelve months. (I will especially be doing these in December and January for the New Year.)

I don’t incorporate other forms of divinatory info like astrology or numerology when I do readings, but it also doesn’t hurt. I only say this because I’m not an astrologer or numerologist. My focus is on divination via tarot and oracle cards.

Last, but certainly not least. Depending on how many cards I draw for you, I advise you spend a certain amount of time reviewing them before asking for another reading. They may take some time to fully understand.
