been a while since I added a new dog to the collection but just LOOK at the condition of this dalmatian

no scuffed paint, barely yellowed, and not a hint of damage to the battery compartment. I have to assume it must have been tucked away in someone's basement or something for the last 17 years. Also my favorite detail specifically of the pink dalmatian....

little butt spots :]
here it is being warmly welcomed by my rainbow (who I only just realized seems to only have one working ear)

Are you okay? You rebloged, "something good has to happen" from me 6 times.
SCREAMS I FORGOT ABOUT NOTIFICATIONS….
Short answer no not really, this year has been p consistently shitty since February
#technical talks#ask tech#short list (probably incomplete): got fired; senior dog died; car has been in the shop for weeks; I have two days left with my dog;#flushed my phone (it still mostly works but I need a new one now; cancer scare; partner in ER#it’s also why my blog header is the way it is rn#last month I changed it to *grit teeth* I get knocked down but I get up again#and now I’m just a lil tired of getting back up again#if y’all watched exu: divergence Brennan has a line in there that goes sth like#there’s a moment in a fight when ur down on the ground curled in a ball to protect urself and u think abt getting back up and there’s a#moment of fear there bc getting up means u might get hit again and that’s hope and it’s terrifying to have#and that’s about where I am fairly consistently nowadays!#pfft ‘short answer’ ‘short list’ *longest tag rant*

oh nothing just trying to figure out how popular fake Christmas trees were in the early 90s because all I know is my family didn't have one so idk how good they actually looked or how common it was for them to be prelit yes this is for a fanfic I am posting for free and will never make a cent off why do you ask
#doey second chances#funnily enough i'm USUALLY good at the time period stuff for this fic#i graduated hs the year it takes place so as far as tech/culture i can pretty distinctly remember if it was my senior year of hs#or freshman year of college#but for the early 90s i have to double guess things outside my own personal experience a bit more#also matthew doesn't like aluminum christmas trees#no particular reason just thought it'd be funny

Think I'm going to make a prosthesis branch for the MEC program. Makes sense that would be an option for my AUverse.
Save the "total conversion" for mech bodies for the most critically injured (and agreed beforehand) or disabled soldiers XCOM started pulling for the invasion who are happy to defend the world and get a second chance at life.
#xcom musings#brainspew#hey here's the one idea I mentioned ages ago but was vauge#So expect some older staff on the Avenger to have some arm or leg prosthetics. not all will be 'hi-tech'#also any gene-modded soldiers are senior staff n' may be out of the game so they just handle training so its mostly the youngins on mission#and half toying with the idea of the Meld XCOM used has a time limit that was undiscovered. MAYBE. the implications will be /nasty/#me rambling on what may appear in the next chapter or future chapters... when I /get/ to writing. hormones laid me out this week 😭#also going to have Bradford make a passing comment he wouldn't mind a treatment for some springy legs as his knees bother him sometime soon#Jynn will absolutely tease and go 'I'm afraid if you had those legs you'd drag me into a vent.' which will get him snorting

A little win... yesterday was my last day at the zoo. I had to give a half-hour presentation (to a much larger group than I'd anticipated), and I was extremely anxious about what I'd prepared. But it went very well, and several people told me afterwards how informative it was! Which I really needed to hear after struggling so much with my confidence this past month.

as someone who had a rejection sensitivity panic attack because of a shitty theatre teacher in high school that was so bad that my mom sent me to a psychiatrist, I would like to thank Chappell Roan for dedicating "my kink is karma" to the theatre teacher who kicked her out of drama club in highschool at acl tonight 💖
#chappell roan#after weeks of shitty behavior he blamed me for tech issues that were his fault in front of our whole tech crew#so I had a crying meltdown in front of all of them and then hid in the bathroom before skipping orchestra rehearsal#i was also really burntout in general from being an overachieving music and theater and AP student and it was senior year#anyways thanks for listening to my lore™#personal

I had a weirdly good performance review today!
I mean, I was expecting it to be good, I know I'm doing a good job at work. But, like, first of all.
My review ended up being fairly late in the week, so a lot of people went before me. Last year, I was asked in my performance review which junior employees I wanted to praise to the CEO. This year I guess the CEO did the opposite? Or--actually I don't even know what he asked, maybe what were some of the things they liked about the company? But whatever the question was, apparently I was named by more than one junior member of the tech staff as their favorite senior member of the tech staff, in large part because I'm enthusiastic about answering questions.
But the other thing is, I got a completely ridiculous cost-of-living raise. Like, they wanted to give me a performance raise, but they could barely give me anything because the cost-of-living raise was so high. "You won the lottery," the CEO said.
He uses a salary aggregation service's calculator to determine cost-of-living adjustments, and he said this year, for job levels below mine, the calculator spit out negative cost-of-living adjustments. (He didn't actually follow that, that would be cruel.) Presumably due to the mass layoffs at Google and other places flooding the market with tech workers. But then for my job title, the calculator suggested a +15% cost-of-living adjustment. He said that was ridiculous and probably wrong, but he always follows the calculator, because he knows a lot of other companies use it, and he doesn't want his employees to be poached by a company that just follows it without paying attention and ends up offering 15% more. So I got my 15%, plus a small nominal performance raise!
The CEO said his best guess for why the numbers were so weird for my job level is because I'm probably at the lowest level that was mostly immune to the mass tech layoffs. I'm at the highest level of technical staff before the manager/fellow bifurcation that many tech companies have. So it makes a certain amount of sense--people at my experience level don't usually get laid off unless whole departments are being closed down, which is mostly not what's going on with the mass layoffs right now, but which is also not inconceivable in this economy. So when people saw their more junior colleagues laid off over the last several months, they worried that they were next, and clung to their jobs rather than looking for other opportunities. So supply of applicants at my level has completely collapsed, which has caused salaries to shoot up. That's the hypothesis, anyway. That, or it was a lucky glitch in the salary aggregator's algorithm.
#my employer paid a lot of money to lawyers 2 1/2 years ago to rescue me from my previous job#so I'm really glad they feel like they got a good return on that investment#once again people love my spontaneous whiteboard lectures#(I was told that at a previous job too)#I mean... listen my parents are professors and my grandmother was a professor#and I dropped out of academia AFTER doing a postdoc--I was almost a professor myself#my lab partner--whose father and wife are professors and who also left academia just shy of professorship--#also likes to do spontaneous whiteboard lectures#but the difference is he's one of the half-or-so of the senior tech staff who keep their office doors closed due to neurodivergence#(can't handle hallway noise)#so junior staff are way less comfortable stopping by his office with random questions than they are with me#(junior staff who can't handle hallway noise just wear headphones all the time in their cubicles I think)#(definitely that's what my younger lab partner does)#(there's one relatively more neurodivergent member of the senior tech staff who does both closed door and headphones#she says we have to go save her if there's a fire alarm--she got pretty upset (rightly so) when she couldn't hear the alarm in a fire drill#(she said--and she's right--that the fire alarm should have been so inescapably loud that she could hear it)

I did eventually fix my Mac copy of AssCreed and it was a problem of needing a file to go in a folder it wasn't in for whatever reason, and like two lines of code had to be added, and don't get me wrong I have a degree in programming so I know how to do that. HOWEVER I think it's ridiculous to charge someone 60 dollars for a completely broken copy of the game and even more ridiculous to tell someone to get fucked when they're mad their 60 dollar purchase doesn't work and when the fix took maybe 30 seconds once I figured out what was wrong.
Like. Yeah I knew how to fix it. But also you shouldn't need a literal degree in programming in order to boot up a game in this day and age. It should be as simple as clicking a button.
#every once in a while I surprise the IT guys at work#bc they're coaching me thru something and I know how to do it I just don't know the passwords#so I anticipate what they're asking me to do#and they're like 'wow how did you know how to do that'#surprise I went to tech school for my senior year of high school and have had an IT degree since technically#I then realized I hated my clients and they treated me like a penis is required to operate a keyboard#so I switched gears into art instead#art college I immediately dropped out of and became a dog trainer but w/e

Have you ever browsed through an old vintage store and come across a cardboard box brimming with random photos? Opening the box you uncover holiday celebrations, family days out, corners of living rooms and beautiful hilltops... Have you ever looked at these photos and felt connected to the people, or curious as to who they were and how they ended up there?
If you understand these feelings, then this blog is for you.

Photo: Alicia the day after senior prom (2002) by Katie McCain on Flickr.
My name is Jess, and I’m a photographer who is really passionate about finding photos that make you feel - especially, unintentionally. In today's vast sea of digital content, it's a treasure to discover pockets of nostalgia, warmth, and even a strange sense of familiarity. I especially look for this in amateur photography that probably wasn't intended to be seen.
So that’s what I created this blog for - looking at life through photography found and credited on sites like Flickr, Pinterest, and other internet archives.
So, just as some ground rules:
- Photographs will be credited to a source. The internet makes this hard (especially Pinterest), but I will try my best.
- You can reach out and ask me to take any photo down any time, I will happily comply no questions asked. A lot of things on Flickr from ten+ years ago are publicly posted - but that does not mean they were intended to be shared outside of friends and family.
- For the reason above and my own personal opinion on the matter, photos of children will not be shared.
I hope this finds some people who enjoy the project as much as I do, and we get to share somebody's life for a moment.

With the gardening I’ve been doing(great stress relief), I can say with Memento at the helm, the Avenger crew would not be hurting on fresh greens, herbs, and more.
I currently have spinach leaves the size of my palm and they have been great in my salads, smoothies, and eggs.
#with the help of the science crew she makes sure everything is getting the key nutrients with a mix of organic and synthetic fertilizers#also using a lot of alien tech recovered from the ship and stolen on raids. some stuff is used to speed up the slow growing plants#now I’m snickering at Bradford and the other senior crew receiving a mile long request list on their network of things she needs for ->#and where to get them. and pestering them to see if ADVENT saved SOME seed banks and didn’t completely annihilate millions of species#I await my empire of basil in the works#also Jynn is going to love memento a ton. she’s going to finally let her put some plants around the ship to liven up the place#my tomatoes are screaming at me to prep their raised bed. sorry I’m working on it!#xcom musings#xcom

some of my favorite moments from high school theatre in my first year
fall (we did the crucible)
- when our run crew chief licked an old dry erase marker he found backstage
- having to stand behind the set and make stair noises in the first scene
- eating a bag of goldfish for dinner in the chorus room
- taking naps on the benches during the courtroom scene and getting up to watch the ending
- our stage manager watching us from the furniture mez and coming down to say hello
- watching the guy who played john hale do a silly little dance backstage after leaving the courtroom scene
spring (we just finished this up! we did curtains)
- having the target from one of our set pieces fall on my wrist like 3 times in a row
- dancing to thataway backstage with the actors
- getting a shout out from one of the seniors i made friends with during my circle and absolutely crying my eyes out
- one of the run crew guys on my side bringing this little hippo plush and having him backstage
- cioffi having his mic bug out and watching our run crew chief go out ON STAGE to fix it
- cheering so loud after each show and just jumping up and down and having a great time
- watching my friends bring a boat on stage
#theatre#tech theatre#run crew#high school theatre#the crucible#curtains musical#im going to miss all the seniors so much
