The worst realisation Maverick comes to during dinner is that they don't have anything to talk about other than what they did at work and some funny anectods on which Charlie laughs on her own.

It's seven o'clock, they are almost done eating, Bradley is out with Ice and Slider, and Pete can't remember the last time they talked other than doing small talks about meaningless things. Seven years ago, he turned down a job and posting in Miramar to follow Charlie in Washington and giving some kind of stability to Bradley but now, right now, he would trade any kind of big check he receives every month to be in a stupid burger place, eating fries and listening baby Goose babbling his last adventure at school and listing to Ice describing their last deployment. He could have stayed in Miramar, him and Bradley, half of his squadron always around and a couple less of zero on his bank account but he is sure he wouldn't end up in that way.

"I think we should break up" he murmurs, after another sip of red wine. (He hates red wine, he doesn't know how many times he said it to Charlie but she continues to buy it anyway).

"What, I didn't get that Peter" she answers, laughing at something.

"I said, I think, no, I know, we have to break up. I can't do this anymore."

"That's - wow. You can't anymore, Pete? I had to take the kid home even when I said to you thousands of times I don't like kids and I didn't want one! Even less one that's not mine!"

hello I just wanted to say ur theme is very cool esp after finding u from ur twt originally and surprised me when I opened it but also most of all. thank u for having a readable theme. so many blogs never recovered from the trend of blog themes for ants 😔 with terrible colour contrast so I have to squint at the screen or paste text into a notepad. sorry for the rant but also ur posts are great u are beautiful and ur art is very cool. love u. mwah

an important note about maeve’s star trek verse:  especially,  her service record

 in all verses,  maeve is a complicated woman who doesn’t like attention  -  she’s also incredibly smart,  and the two don’t always go hand in hand.   she has,  pretty much,  spent her entire life working for starfleet in one way or another.  once purely as a scientist,  then with her very difficult relationship with section 31.  so her service record?  full of gaps and half truths,  full of things that cannot be admitted to.   (  she has never allowed herself to be used as a weapon,  but many of the things she’s worked on or been around have been such top clearance,  need to know basis that maeve remains a little shocked she’s still walking around with that knowledge.  )

  her rank changes regularly.  on some ships she’s on,  she’s a lieutenant commander,  sometimes just a lieutenant.  you could ask ten people from ten ships she’s been on and they’d have a lot of different answers about her.  sometimes it’s dependent on the task she has at hand and sometimes it’s just because she’s angered someone in power.

 in general though:  in the scientific world    ‘  m.  donovan  ’    is extremely well known.  she’s published a lot of ground breaking work in genetics and several other fields  -    but,  whenever she’s up for any kind of award or attention,    maeve withdraws her name.    it’s better that way.    easier.     other scientists from many planets will know her instantly once they make the connection between maeve and her own name,    though in she tries to keep these moments to a minimal. 

 she doesn’t want to be known,    and she doesn’t want to be remembered.  but she cares too much to not use her brilliance for very memorable work.  on top of this,  maeve knows starfleet’s opinions on romulans.  it’s unlikely to end well if people start really noticing her.

 over the years,  in the rare times she’s let people actually get to know her a little more than surface level...  there have been a fair few who have tried to encourage her to go into command rather than staying in the sciences.  despite her efforts,  she’s naturally very good with people,  both because of how observant she is and how naturally people tend to trust her.  maeve cares.  she cares deeply,  and that shows.  

 she has always refused this advice,  writing it off as them misreading her or just being incorrect.  she has no interest in leading after all even if it’s something she’d actually excel at if she’d let herself.
