Why Upper Moon 4 Is Stronger Than Upper Moon 6

There’s a recurring debate about whether Gyutaro was stronger than the clones of Upper Moon 4, with some arguing that only Zohakuten is the “real” Upper Moon 4. I disagree—and here’s why that view misses key context.

1. The Entertainment District fight was inflated. While the battle with Gyutaro and Daki was visually stunning and emotionally intense, the narrative clearly shows that Tanjiro’s team barely survived. Tengen was poisoned and outmatched. Tanjiro didn’t have the mark yet, and Zenitsu and Inosuke were pushed to their limits. But that’s the point—it was a major struggle because they were weaker then. That was their threshold at the time.

By contrast, when Tanjiro fought the clones of Hantengu, he had:

The mark,

A significantly more trained and battle-hardened body,

Developed Sun Breathing to a usable level,

Better tactical awareness and swordsmanship.

He was much stronger than when he faced Gyutaro—yet even then, the clones nearly overwhelmed him. That should tell you something.

2. Sekido's reflexes alone prove insane power scaling. There’s a key moment that fans often overlook: when Genya fires at Sekido, and Sekido’s eye visibly tracks the bullet. That’s Superman vs Flash-level reflexes—showcased in slow motion for us to even understand what’s happening. The fact that he could see and react to that speed says volumes about his combat capability.

3. Their Blood Demon Arts would obliterate early-series Tanjiro. People also underestimate just how lethal each clone’s technique is:

Urogi’s sonic scream isn’t just loud—it shatters buildings and throws off internal equilibrium.

Karaku’s pressure gusts can break bones from a distance, throw opponents like ragdolls, and destroy terrain.

Aizetsu’s spear fighting skills plus his weeping spears are deadly and fast.

Sekido’s lightning doesn’t just paralyze I reckon it cooks from the inside out.

Had Tanjiro met them back in the Entertainment District arc, without his mark or sun breathing, any one of them could’ve killed him outright.

4. Total Concentration Breathing is a defense multiplier. Breathing techniques increase resilience and auto-healing. That explains how Tanjiro, Genya, and Nezuko withstood attacks that might have one-shot someone else. Imagine how fatal Sekido’s lightning or Urogi’s scream would’ve been to untrained fighters. The only reason our heroes even lasted was due to late-series power-ups.

5. Gyutaro’s main advantage was his poisoned sickles. Most of the damage he inflicted relied on slowing opponents over time, weakening their coordination. He also fought in sync with Daki, often using her as a distraction while hiding in the shadows. The clones don’t use poison. They overwhelm directly with brute force, area attacks, and relentless pressure—no gimmicks, just raw, overwhelming power.

6. Unlike Gyutaro, whose weak point was known and visible (dual beheading), Hantengu’s true body was hidden inside a minuscule, cowardly form, smaller than a mouse and fast enough to escape detection, even from marked, enhanced Demon Slayers. Most fighters wouldn’t have even noticed him on the battlefield, let alone known to target him.

Even Tanjiro, with his heightened senses, only tracked him down by sheer luck and desperation, managing to scent him just barely in the chaos. And even then, Hantengu’s neck didn't cut. The only reason Tanjiro succeeded was because sunlight had begun to weaken him IMO otherwise I reckon his sword would have failed agaim. Without Nezuko’s intervention and the rising sun, Hantengu would have escaped, and the clones would have regenerated again.

I follow 3 different YouTube channels for their fun Blue Lock reaction videos, but this guy’s reaction was so real man:

I’m not joking. This U20 game better be better than anything from Jujutsu Kaisen season 2. It better be better than Zoro vs King, Gear 5 Luffy, Tengen vs Gyutaro. It better be better than all that. I’m not doing this shit, bruh. I’m not.

I feel you, man😭. People had very high expectations for Blue Lock season 2. “Anime of the Season,” “Peak Lock,” and whatnot, but 8Bit so far has not yet delivered anything that has met those expectations. Now, we’re all hoping and praying that they’re “saving the budget” for the actual U20. And with how the first few episodes are just delivering the bare minimum, we’re desperately holding onto the belief that U20 is going to be amazing and that all this disappointment from PNGlock would be worth it.

I’m trying to be positive here and look at the good side of the anime, but we really shouldn’t have to be settling for crumbs just because the studio is rushing to release the season when they’ve just released EpiNagi earlier this year.

Like, it’s fucking ridiculous that it’s come to the point we get hyped over the smallest movement in a sports anime that’s supposed to be full of it 😭😭😭

There should be some balance here. They can skimp on the budget on the pre-U20 episodes, but it shouldn’t reach to levels where they’re left with nothing but panning PNGs, underwater filters, and slide transitions. It would’ve been more acceptable if they have given us quality like that in Clean Freak! Aoyama-kun, a mid soccer anime with mid animation, because that show at least has some actual movement.

And before you say, “Just don’t watch the anime if you’re gonna complain,” let me grab you by the shoulders, look into your eyes, and ask you:

Are you seriously contented with this kind of “animation”?

Complaining is not always bad. Complaining is not always negative. Complaining is not always toxic.

People complain because they want a change for the better. Is wanting something for the better that bad?

If nobody in history ever complained, then the word “accountability” wouldn’t exist in our dictionary.

I admit that non-fans hating on Blue Lock animation just to ride on the hate train is too much, but as someone who loves Blue Lock, how can you not feel any pain or rage in seeing the half-assed work being done on the show?

Anger is just one way of grieving and coping. And people get angry because they care.

The fact that the fandom is raging over the animation quality is proof that Blue Lock is loved.

We’re angry with the animation because we care.

So let’s just hold each other’s hands and not fight one another. The problem is not between us fans, who just want the best for Blue Lock. The problem is with the studio.

This isn’t the first time 8Bit has done a disservice on the show, and I doubt it will be the last. They can’t keep getting away with this.

I'm sorry but this is gonna be a long post so buckle in if you read this. I just wanna apperciate animation as a whole.

I have watched anime since I was a child from Inuyasha to Bleach, then to One Piece and Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer. To experience the way animation has evolved is absolutely mindblowing especially with this fight.

My jaw was open the entire time in awe of how pretty it is. Like yes the fighting is amazing, but the animation itself is breathtaking. I mean you even have Luffy vs Kaido where he grabs clouds that are made of just water and you see it stretch as he takes hold, turns lightning into a solid form (rubber is an amorphous solid) and I point out these things because of the way they animated it.

When the texture of the lightning changes and how it bends reminds me of one of those plasma balls I had when I was kid. You would touch the glass and it would change its form. Kind of like how you see here as well when he goes to throw it:

It looks like he's holding fire, which is plasma like lightning, because it responds to electric fields. I go back to these fights a lot and see different things I didn't see before. It makes me love anime in general even more.

Another animated scene of Luffy in Gear 5 is this:

The immediate change in texture shows the viewer the power he has gained. You see, rubber doesn't have an internal structure, and they show that here by the way his body slightly bounces, in the way he breathes and in his stance. This is the scene that actually made me adore Luffy as Nika.

Now, I wanna move on to Demon Slayer. Tengen vs Gyutaro lives in my head rent free just as much as Zoro vs King does.

If you told me at nine years old that this fight would exist, I wouldn’t believe you. I would tell you that you are lying because of the fluidity, the lighting and directing. How it never misses a step. There is not a single flaw in this whole scene.

But what I really want to talk about in this anime is the explosion… I have never experienced a scene so realistic.

You mean to tell me that this isn't an explosion in real time? Bullshit. And when they zoom in on the snowflake as its being melted from the heat... I know it's simple, a tiny little detail, but those things make it for me.
