Hallmark Christmas movie, protag moves to Vienna to be with loved one, finds good job, happy ending. Only setbacks and conflicts are the lady at the store always says they're out of cookies (a lie, but she will change and learn through the power of christmas) and a neighbour that competes in christmas decorations.
The xmas plot and set pieces are independent of the time of year in which you move there, btw
This is the fucking goal. Manifesting relentlessly

What are your top 5 favorite books?
oh no this one's actually really difficult sjkjfsk
i'm very picky and i've had a bad few years for reading (2020-2022 i didn't read much, 2023 i read lots of new stuff but i hardly liked any of it, and in 2024 i'm *still* trying to get myself to reread things i know i like...) so. umm...
here is my list of favourite books from when i was a teenager, probably subject to change:
carry on (rainbow rowell) - YA fantasy romance, sincere love letter to the genre, and incisive genre deconstruction. the book that got me into writing fanfic, and the reason for my url! featuring a sad gay vampire and the worst chosen one ever to be chosen in a genuine and very well-executed enemies to lovers arc.
the raven boys (maggie stiefvater) - YA fantasy/romance/crime/genre-eclectic novel about a close-knit group of teenagers on a quest, and a prophecy that one of them will die within the year. hard to describe, but both very compelling and fun.
the darkest part of the forest (holly black) - YA fantasy romance about a town where humans live alongside the fae. a really interesting world and a great story intertwining a bunch of folkloric-feeling plot threads. also, this author's best work, imo, alongside her other standalone (the coldest girl in coldtown; about a vampirism epidemic.)
cuckoo song (frances hardinge) - quite an atypical YA fantasy about a changeling girl, set in (iirc) 1920s britain. grimy in an aesthetically pleasing way, and sort of horror-adjacent.
the secret history (donna tartt) - adult crime/mystery/litfic/founding text of the "dark academia" aesthetic. a group of intense, pretentious classics students murder one of their classmates, and we spend most of the book tracing back how/why they got to that point.
and here are five books which should be candidates for my favourite, but which i need to reread to be sure of my feelings about:
under the pendulum sun (jeanette ng) - gothic fantasy about missionaries trying to convert the fae to christianity.
piranesi (susanna clarke) - fantasy about a man with amnesia living in an infinitely large and impossible house.
the girl with all the gifts (m.r. carey)- a sort of dystopian zombie story, with an unusual amount of sympathy for the zombies.
rosemary's baby (ira levin) - horror about a woman being manipulated by a cult into bearing the antichrist.
we have always lived in the castle (shirley jackson) - gothic(?) novel about the remains of a family living in the aftermath of the murder of most of them.
so umm yeah. there's several hundred words to answer a very simple question skfdsjk
-> ask me for a top five list of anything 💛

4. The best pairing you've written for is hard, because all of the pairings I've read that you've done have been just so so good, but Lilith/Wenduag holds a special place in my heart. Their dynamic is just so crunchy and fascinating to me, and honestly the way you write wenduag in general is just so good. I love Ashes to Ashes the most but I'm a fan of everything you've written for them.
8. What i like most about your writing--i hope i explain it properly, but just. your sense of rhythm and the way you use prose is just amazing. your writing doesnt even really feel like reading to me, it's just staring right into the thoughts of your characters, it feels so clear and easy and so polished. You're just so skilled in general and I love how clearly your prose conveys character!
aaaaah thank you so much!!! Lilith/Wenduag are one of my unexpected favorites, they've become such a delight to write and I'm so glad to know that people are enjoying them with me <3
and that's such a beautiful compliment, thank you so so much! 😭

of Course you would post about sibling relationships that play out against the backdrop of their inability to escape the specter of cyclical violence like a slow ominous black hole (am i talking about tim and dick or am i talking about cowboy game? yeah)
rimi ive had this sitting here in my inbox for the past hour because i feel truly seen.............its genuinely so real this was me with dick&tim AND arthur&john (cowboygame) but this was ALSO me with jiang cheng and wei wuxian and probably others. god i really just have a thing with siblings and cycles of violence huh

Hi, I know absolutely nothing about your aus!! But I'd love to hear about them!!
What are they! How did you come up with them? Which is your favourite? What's your favourite moments from them?
:D
oh, i honestly have a bunch! i think most of them, except my black dog au, are in my pinned post. but i have ones like my mermaid au and john wick au that aren't listed.
but my favorite is probably still my aac au. even if it's two years old and was written before a lot of lore reveals and some of the characters are off (looking at you, punz), i still love it. it's kind of the heart of who i am and what my stories are about: people getting the chance to heal and grow and be better.
which is basically how i come up with most of them! i take an idea or scenario and go 'there's hurt and pain here. now, how does it end in peace and kindness?' it's never perfect, things are messy, but that's just the kind of stories i like to tell and that belief kinda influences all my ideas.

also slightly unrelated (??) but not entirely,, the way things are written/visually shown (just depending on the media form of course) and conveyed has always been really important to me and i felt compelled to share this particular. little something i remember from a very particular lil something else (if anyone recognised it specifically i would be surprised though), just ever-so-slightly rephrased because of context reasons. aside from that, well. i don't have the right words so i just trust you understand sksdkskl i just think it's quite powerful in the way it's worded
"The kindness in you is screaming. That's why you're forgiven. That's why, please live. Your suffering is proof of being human..."
it has a particular raw kind of potent, unashamed (?) sense to it that- is very strong to me (well, so long as it isn't used for the kinds of things that only leave a weird feeling on me, but when i say that, i. have only one highly specific thing in mind so the "weird feeling instances," shall i call them, are not the norm) and i think- basically, what I'm trying to say is I get a very similar feeling from your writing? the way certain things are conveyed is just. it just feels very good to me in that sense. it's a bit specific- not sure how i could describe it, exactly. i usually have a distinct preference for a very neat, dare i say "sophisticated" sense in writing, but at certain times or in particular ways- if you just give me something that isn't even feeling all too neatly written, like, at all, and is rather "messy" even, perhaps "unrefined"- but hits that kind of raw emotion? i'll most likely still love it. things need that. and that doesn't mean you can't combine the two...? it's such a balance. which, btw, i think you hit perfectly
so. yeah <3 i truly appreciate that so much. it's a very particular kind of thing that i happen to be particular over haha,, i consider it a part of what i consider "good writing," but it's not like writing isn't or can't be good without it- it's its own very specific part of it is all, and- yeah. most of all this is an appreciation post! i really do respect your writing a lot. much respect to you :D
Tumblr media
ah,,,
i think i get what you mean, yeah. i'm not sure if i'm particular about it myself but i do notice and appreciate when the writing's, like, eloquency (so to speak) takes a backseat to the raw emotions. i think it's very neat

i secretly think (well, rather, i secretly thought, since now it is no longer secret) that you have sold something valuable (e.g. a soul, a cabbage, an antique cabinet) to get powerful graphic design skills. either that or the work you've put into being able to make cool pictures of neat quotes has most certainly paid off :)
my appartment is cold as ice but I swear my heart is warm now

What is the hardest part of writing for you? o.O
actually writing, obviously ! that's the easy answer. i think it's a bit more complex than that, tho.
having motivation to write at all is the biggest struggle, but i wouldn't frame it as a matter of ~inspiration~ so much as a matter of ?? idk, discipline ?? i write for work and for fun, yet it's much easier to write for work because it's something i have to make myself do regularly. i haven't written for fun in a HOT MINUTE, neither long form stuff nor my simblr content. i do feel really mournful about having abandoned my lifelong love of Working On Novel Ideas, but 1) it's a choice i can always unmake and 2) i could theoretically get the same joy and satisfaction from my simblr story. for a while, i made time every evening to work on story things, including the stuff i'd classify as really "writing": plotting, revising plot things, drafting dialogue. sticking to a regular practice of writing is hard. especially when seemingly more important things are demanding my time and energy ! i am getting major fomo from seeing everyone's posts the last several weeks ... oh, to mount my own comeback ...
the more interesting answer, to me and in the context of simblr, is that i sometimes find it hard to convey the investment i feel within the writing itself. being limited to dialogue is part of it, i guess. it's not that i'm eager to hit everyone over the head with exposition so much as the facts that 1) i like to lavish in metaphors and build out the inner world of the characters and 2) the worldbuilding i adore is much more behind-the-scenes than super obvious or at the forefront. as a writer, i rarely spend time on the physical settings unless it's immediately relevant to what's happening; in the story, i build sets but they're not really the point most of the time. historically, the stories i write take place in the minds and hearts of the characters (although i rarely write in first person; i don't really like that kind of, uhm, perspective, as a writer or reader). adding prose paragraphs helps me get at what i want to include with the sims story, but it's not quite the same ! there's also the problem of the nature of the format, which i just haven't mastered. maybe it's my impatience, but i read y'all's stories that make me FEEL things and RELATE to what's happening and CARE deeply ... i'm not sure how to get that effect, in a way that feels real and successful to me personally. step one is probably Posting Regularly Instead of Being On Hiatus For 12843950 Months, huh?
so, maybe it's not that complex, lmao. starting is hard. continuing is harder.
