Alright, so in essence, Wars is generally feeling shit (read: he's coming down with something but I haven't decided what yet) and ends up walking down to the river near where they've set up camp to fill his waterskin. He decides to sit by the river for a second, just a second, to take a breather since it's actually really calming and pleasant to listen to and since he's just so tired and groggy and can't shake that awful gritty feeling.

That 'just a second' soon becomes a lot longer as he ends up falling asleep there, somewhat out of character considering he'd call that an incredibly risky move had it been anyone else which is just a testament to how bad he's feeling.

The others start to notice how long he's been gone, so Wild and Twilight volunteer to look for him, Twilight going mainly in case they can't find him anywhere obvious and need some Wolfie intervention.

They find him pretty quickly and are immediately concerned that he's just passed out there. However, on closer inspection, they figure that by the way he's sitting and how his things have been put down as opposed to dropped that he really could have just fallen asleep there. They're concerned still because it really doesn't seem like something that the Captain would do, considering how pedantic he can be about safety when they choose places to rest at times.

They wake him and ask him what happened and he, with his brain still very much asleep, mumbles about how terrible and tired he feels.

Twilight and Wild are both shocked and relieved since they didn't even need to get Time (and by extension, Fierce) involved for him to admit it, which is good for them but speaks volumes to how shitty the captain must be feeling...

this is a very long ask oh no-

also there is more but I haven't quite tied it all together yet

and as I said it's a very self-indulgent one

Do you think that Charlie also undergoes retconning/revision as the series goes on? In Twilight he seems somewhat distant but still buys Bella a truck, worries about her, etc. By Eclipse he can't work a microwave and is (at least through Bella's PoV) an unreasonable brute of a man. Do you think that Meyer needed to make Charlie more distasteful to the readers so that Bella essentially abandoning him (and Renee) wouldn't come off so cruel/harsh? Or did she just evolve the character as she went to mesh better with New Moon and Eclipse, even when those new character traits DON'T mesh well with FD/BD? Charlie was still in Bella's life in FD and presumingly Nessie was also still named Carlie as well.

Charlie is interesting because if you think about the idea that it was originally just Twilight and Forever/Breaking Dawn, Charlie seems to exist mostly so Bella can move to Forks and be largely unsupervised. I mean there's a story there about a girl reconnecting with the father she barely knows, but that's not the story SM is interested in and for the most part is not the story she is telling. I'd argue the movies made a bit more of an effort there, or at least Billy Burke made people care about Charlie. I don't remember people being all that invested in him when it was just the books, but movie!Charlie is largely beloved.

But yeah I think a lot about Bella's homelife is the way it is so that choosing to become a vampire doesn't seem so terrible. If she were close to her parents, if she had siblings, hell if she had any actual human friends she cared about, that decision would be a lot harder to make and there would be consequences, things she had to give up. But she doesn't really have anyone. She likes Angela well enough, but doesn't spare her a second thought after the wedding. Her grandparents are dead, no cousins or aunts or uncles. No friends back in Phoenix. Just Charlie, Renee, and Phil. And she gets to keep Charlie and doesn't seem to care about Phil at all.

I think some of the problem with Charlie is that SM was going for humor. Similar with Renee, I never really believed he didn't actually know how to cook. I assumed it was Bella exaggerating for effect. I didn't actually think Bella was paying the bills and doing the grocery shopping at 10, either. But then we get Charlie not even knowing how to boil pasta or not to but metal in the microwave. Like he hadn't lived on his own for nearly two decades, like he hadn't cared for his parents? It's just "haha look how clueless he is!"

I do think his disdain for Edward is largely justified, though, given what he actually knows. The "break-up" after the baseball game where Bella ran back to Phoenix and ended up in the hospital, and then her depression when he breaks up with her again, then her disappearing for three days because he needed help. Yeah, I'd think this guy wasn't good for my kid, too. But because it's a romance and Bella's the narrator, she paints him as unreasonable and Edward being a saint for putting up with it.

I don't think he was retconned as much as Renee; I think they both started off as well-meaning but comically helpless/clueless and that Renee took a darker turn whereas Charlie may have benefited in later works from how beloved movie!Charlie is.

A (hopefully) half decent guide to get into watching figure skating

With the Junior Grand Prix circuit starting this week, I wrote up a little guide for my online pals and anyone else interested in getting into the sport. I'm going to be focusing on Elite Level Skating.

Disclaimer in case I put this into the main tags: I may make a metaphors or two to F1 for comparison since I primary post F1 related things but I do have a #figure skating tag

Honestly if you want a really good write up/guide I highly recommend the website So You Want to Watch Figure Skating and they even have a Tumblr where they post updates.

General Info

The International Skating Union (ISU) is the governing body for competitive ice skating disciplines (not just figure skating but speed skating as well). They're like the FIA in this case and decide/vote on regulations and changes.

Each country has their own individual national associations that administers the sport at the national level.

For example, USFS (U.S. Figure Skating), Skate Canada, etc. These associations do things like assign their skaters to competitions, decide funding, hold national level competitions etc.

Figure skating has 4* disciplines - Men's single - Women's single - Pairs - Ice Dance

*(There's also synchronized skating but I don't really keep up with it)

The two categories I'll be focusing on are: Junior and Senior. You can read about the specific age requirements here

Scoring

A final competition score is comprised of the total score of two programs (segments) added together.

A Short program (SP) score + a Free program (FP) score*

The main difference is that the SP is shorter and the FP is longer. But you can read into the different technical element requirements that I linked since they vary from disciple.

*In ice dance the SP and FP are called Rhythm dance (RD) and Free dance (FD)

To break it down even further, each total segment score is calculated based on the following:

Technical Element Score (TES) + Program Component Score (PCS) = Total segment score (TSS)

TES:

Each technical element preformed has a base value of points (following the code of points) depending on difficulty (it's comparable to gymnastics code of points scoring)

The judges then assign GOE (grade of execution) that increases or decreases the base value depending on how well it was executed

Competitions

I'm only going to focus on major and easily accessible competitions for this guide. The goal of competitions is to place high and get world standing points.

National Championships Typically held mid-season ish (Dec-Jan). Pretty straight forward, each country hosts their own national champion competition (most people just call them Nationals) for each discipline and age category. Depending on the country, these results may have a little or big impact on which skaters they pick to go to international championships for the rest of the season.

Grand Prix Grand Prix are a series of qualifying events (each held in a different country) that lead to the Grand Prix final. Skaters earn qualifying points at each Grand Prix event and the six highest-ranking qualifiers meet at the ISU Grand Prix Final.

A skater/pair can only participate in a maximum of 2 events. And each individual Grand Prix event can only have up to 3 skaters from the same country in each discipline.

Senior Grand Prix: 6 qualifying events

- for break down of how to qualify for the final refer to this page - skaters are eligible to be assigned to events based on results at the previous World Championships, season’s best scores from the previous and current season, and overall world standing

Junior Grand Prix: 7 qualifying events

- the same requirements apply for qualifying for the finals - eligibility wise, juniors have no minimum score required, as long as they're old enough their country can enter them - there is also no cap on the total # of participants unlike in seniors - # of spots for each nation are designated by previous world junior championship results

Europeans (European Figure Skating Championships) As the name states, Europeans is an ISU Championship in which only European skaters ("members of a European ISU Member") compete for the title. It is regarded as quite prestigious since it's the sport's oldest competition (first held in 1891).

# of competitors per country at Euros is determined based on results from the previous year

Four Continents Championships (4CC) 4CC is like Europeans but with all the other continents [Americas (North America and South America), Africa, Asia and Oceania]. Skaters must belong to a non-European member nation of the ISU.

Each nation can have up to 3 skaters from the same country in each discipline

Each skater must have obtained the minimum TES score requirement in the current or previous season

*Europeans/4CC are senior level only events

Junior/Senior World Championships Aka: the most important competition of the season! (Other than when the olympics happen)

Just like Europeans, # of spots each nation is allocated depends on results from the previous year. This is how they're determined (wording from this reddit post):

A country can have between one and three skaters/teams per discipline.

Each country automatically gets one spot in each discipline.

To get a second spot next year, that skater/team has to place in the top ten. 

To get a third spot, that skater/team has to place in the top two. 

For countries who already have multiple placements, both skaters or the top 2/3 entries: 

must add up to ≤13 with their placements to secure/maintain a third spot (ie. 8th and 5th, 3rd and 9th, etc.)

or ≤28 to secure/maintain a second spot. (ie. 10th and 8th, 5th and 20th, etc.)

How to Watch

All the competitions I mentioned are live-streamed on the ISU YouTube channel. They also stay up so you can watch replays if a competition is held at an inconvenient time!

The Junior Grand Prix events were streamed on the ISU Junior YouTube channel but this year they will also be streamed on the main channel. You can still watching replays all the way from 2011 on it tho!

Occasionally you may find yourself Geo-blocked from a stream. I find this only happens when a competition is being hosted in your country because they want you to use the local streaming/TV service. For example, I'm based in Canada so I'm blocked from the Skate Canada GP event on YouTube because they're streaming it on CBC. I was also blocked from the World's 2024 Youtube stream because it was hosted in Canada. This includes full replays as well. But this is really easy to bypass with a VPN.

My advice is to just start watching and things will come naturally. I never thought I would be able to identify any jumps aside from an axel...but here I am watching competitions, finding myself calling under rotations on a 3T...

This season is the pre-olympic season and there's lots of skaters returning from injury/break so it should be exciting!

*I would like to mention that just like any other sport there are a lot of issues within figure skating. It's an environment with a lot of young people whom are susceptible to mistreatment/harassment/abuse, so I just wanted to bring that to light since new viewers will probably discover shocking things that have happened/are happening. And overall raise awareness about being mindful viewers like not commenting on a skater's body for example and just advocating for the increased safety of the sport

There is also most definitely politicking involved when it comes judging, but we as viewers will never know how rampant and the details surrounding it. Some posts explaining it more here and here.

I’ve just finished BL/FD and they have moved to the top of my all time favorite fanfics. I am going to immediately reread them because the stories and characters were so rich and so moving. I have felt all the feels while reading these stories.

I never knew how much I needed a Hermione/Lavender BFF love story until you gave it to me! She has now become one of my favorite characters. I adore the friendship they built through these two stories. What a beautiful balance and compliment they were to each other!

The dual POV kept me on the edge of my seat and rooting for Draco and Hermione throughout. The tension and attraction and passion you were able to convey was palpable. The pain and angst of the love triangle felt so very real. I think it triggered my own memories of that time in life.

And Theo…my god, Theo! 😍🥹

I didn’t think anyone could replace Draco or Rhysand as my absolute favorite book boyfriend and then you gave me this version of Theo. This funny, beautiful, vulnerable, supportive gem of a human and now I have an obsession with Theo. I can’t get enough of him!

While I ultimately knew he would end up with Daphne and Draco would end with Hermione, and that was as it should be, I was absolutely devastated when things ended between him and Hermione. It brought me to literal tears when he left her to go and comfort Daph bc I knew it was the beginning of the end. They were just so good together. 🥹

With Lavender’s divination background and her cryptic statements about choosing a different path I kept wondering if there would be an epilogue or extra Lavender POV chapter where she has a vision of H and T choosing each other and what that path would have looked like. Does that exist somewhere and I just haven’t found it yet?

This is how consumed I’ve been with this story…I had a dream last night that there was an epilogue that flashed forward like 30 something yrs. After long and beautiful marriages, T & H have both become widowed and they find comfort and healing with one another again. Their paths finally reunite and their love story has its turn. But alas I woke up, finished the book and it was not to be.

All this to say, I would love for you to revisit this world again some day. These characters are beautifully written! I love them all! Thank you

Thank you SO MUCH for this beautiful comment. I can't tell you how much it means to me that the stories touched you in this way. You even DREAMED about them! And to class my Theo with Rhysand!!?? I die! I die! I love Rhys so much too -- it's kind of a problem because I compulsively re-read his scenes. In fact, I read the ACOTAR series right around the time I was writing BL and FD, so there may be a little of Rhys's charm in Theo! I like this theory...

And as for your questions and intuitions about the continuation of this story, I can tell you that I do have a pretty strong headcanon for what happens down the road. I even have a rough outline/zero draft of what could be a third installment someday. I'm still waiting for the time to be ripe to start writing it, although I can't definitively promise it will ever happen. Part of me thinks I should just leave it as-is and let everyone have their own ideas about how it turns out. Also, I'm currently shopping an OC novel around for representation, drafting another OC romance, and preparing to launch a detective noir Dramione multi-chap WIP tomorrow (you heard it here first!!). So my plate is pretty full, lol. But someday, maybe someday. I do miss that world so much and would love to hang out with those characters again.

5-1-24 WIP Wednesday | Fluent Freshman (FD)

The others continue to ask him out to go do things but Smith now can decline around 80% of the time citing all the homework and studying he has to do, so that is another boon of the semester starting. Still, it’s nice that they want to hang out with him, even if hanging out with them feels like walking through a series of landmines.

Hanging out with his fellow Foreign Language majors is inherently different.

For one there is no strangely political slant to his conversations with them as Jack continues to try and sway the freshmen to his side. It gets strangely hostile between everyone whenever it comes up, and it always comes up no matter what they’re talking about since Lisa’s crush has shifted into a bit of cultish worship.

With the foreign language major, the main point of contention is which language is the hardest to learn. It’s a bit interesting when they turn to him in the midst of their mostly playful arguments and ask him which one he had more difficulty learning. Smith has the most languages currently under his belt with 10 conversational and 5 fluent.

Pray for me, I just watched fix you (St. John’s final version) for the first time 🥲 Tessa reaching for Scott’s hand in the beginning not once, but twice?? 😭 Kill meeeee. Also if you look closely you can see him muttering to Tessa throughout the program, first right before he’s pulled away from her in the beginning, again after they stand up from the kneel hug and then finally in the Mahler ending pose. I wonder what he’s saying to her through all that 🥺 and the high five and them blowing a kiss to each other during viva la vida is the icing on top of the cake

It’s been so long since I last watched it I honestly can’t recall all those other things and now knowing about them idk if I can ever watch it again bc I may never stop crying (I mean I know they would been talking but yeah I need to know what exactly).

I really don’t know how they even got through that final performance - especially since the whole piece was made up of some of their most iconic choreographic moments throughout their career

I once again state without a doubt dance and skating was their love language and this was not a final performance but a way of expressing eternal gratitude and love for everything they are to each other..

Enno awoke with a start.

��Beloved. Take care of my parting gift.” The voice of the Fierce Deity echoes around their brain. “I’m so glad to have seen you… one last time.”

Enno rips the mask off and lets it drop to the ground. They're breathing heavily and they’re heart is pounding within their ribcage. They gulp. “What the hell? What the hell?”

Their hand is sore and it hurts to put their weight on it. Shocked by the unexpected pain when they move, they bring up their left hand, clutching onto their injured fingers. Only, there’s no visible injury.

There’s red, sure, but it’s not the same shade of crimson DNA that most people grow familiar with in their lives. Not to mention that it wraps around their finger, laced with a delicate blue swirling pattern. It appears to be a ring.

Enno hides it without thinking twice about it, covering their hand with their other one. “Sky isn’t going to like this.”

They pause. Sky? Would he really care? After all of this? Doesn’t he hate them? Well FD said- Can FD even be trusted? The Fierce Deity marked them!

The realization stirs them forward. They find themself on their feet and storming out of their little hiding spot before they can even think about what they’re doing or where their feet are taking them. 

They can’t believe this. They don’t even like the guy and now this?! What is Sky going to think? How is he going to look at them now? God, no he won’t. He doesn’t like them any more. Wasn’t Fierce Deity supposed to be older Sky though? How can they know for sure? Is there any way they can prove it?

They freeze in their place.

They find themself in the middle of Skyloft, seemingly on the way to the Bazaar. The sun is setting but it’s still relatively light out. It doesn’t look like they were gone for too long. Only if you don’t consider three potential hours to be a long time though.

Enno pats their belt loop and lets their blood run cold. They left the mask in the cave! They can’t just leave it behind like that! It’s still dangerous to have out in the open!

Cursing themself for the lack of foresight and their innate impulsiveness, they dive back into the cave and eventually find the mask where it was left before. It looks…faded to a degree. Like a mere husk of what it used to be in a past life. Which is strange considering that it was still as vibrant and as life-like as the first that Time had gotten ahold of it.

Enno stares at it longer. There’s another impulsive idea to try it on again and check on the trapped deity within but something tells Enno, either the lack of warmth or the look of ghastly erasure from within, that they won’t find anything of substance if they were to do that. Enno clips it onto their belt for safe keeping regardless and returns from whence they came.

It feels lighter walking this time around. As if something in the air had shifted. Enno still isn’t sure what they’re going to do or what they’re going to tell Time in regards to the mask. 

Their ring finger still stings from the mask left by the Fierce Deity and it drives Enno forward. For some unknown reason, they’re going to attempt to find Sky. There’s no plan in mind, just the need and desire to see him and do something crazy but they haven't the foggiest idea of what they intend to do when they inevitably find the young man.

As it turns out, they needn’t look far.

Sky exits out of the Bazaar with a worried look on his face. He looks to be deep in thought but he too walks like a man on a mission. If only he was looking where he was walking.

Enno spots him and makes a b-line towards him. They walk up to him without saying a single word.

Sky nearly crashes into them and his face relaxes almost instantly. “There you are. We were getting worried. Where were you?”

Enno pauses and feels their brain stall. The Fierce Deity’s words echo in the back of their mind and their whole experience within the mask stops them from forming any more coherent thoughts.

Sky can see the scared, if a bit pale look on their face and takes their arm slowly and gently. “Hey… You ok? What happened?”

“Um...” Enno gulps, feeling the air in their lungs leave them suddenly.”...I…”

Sky takes mercy on them. “This way. Come on.”

He leads them to a small corner of Skyloft and pulls them away from any prying eyes that may have wanted to eavesdrop on them. He looks around just in case and makes sure that neither of them are standing too close to the edge. Sky takes a calming breath and shakes his head a bit, letting his hair fly a bit. He needs a haircut. “Ok. Enno. What happened? You were gone for hours without telling anyone and now you’ve come back like you’ve seen a ghost.”

Enno looks away from Sky, pointedly looking at the ground even though this is what they wanted right? They clear their throat and blurt, “Do you hate me?”

That’s not what they wanted to say.

Sky recoils as if he’s been smacked with five across the face. He looks offended, pissed off even. “What on earth gave you that idea? Enno. I don’t hate you. I don’t think I could ever hate you. But I’m not going to play games or run in circles and I’m not a mind reader. If you want me to leave you alone, I will but-”

“I don’t.” Enno blurts again, looking up at him quick enough to crack their neck. 

Sky freezes and waits for Enno to elaborate. They don’t. Feeling a bit put off by the scare and lack of answers, he let out a soft and long breath and furrows his brow. He knows he has to be patient.  “You don’t, what?”

“I don’t… want that. I don’t want that. I don’t want you to leave me alone.” Enno bite their lip, feeling small ripples of panic begin to build within them.

Sky sighs and lets it sink in the air as he ponders over his next words.

The panic within Enno surges and rises like waves on the beach as the moon glides across the darkened abyss above. They can feel themself getting fidgety and the lack of his immediate response is only more worrisome.

Sky hides his fists by his sailcloth and by his sides, making sure to meet them head on with his eyes alone. He doesn’t want to seem overbearing or upset but he is frankly feeling as if he’s being toyed with. Never one to cast the blame to others, he intends to hide his frustration and let it simmer down on its own. Still, he has his questions. “What do you want- mh!?”

Enno kisses him.

In their panic, their impulsiveness soars to unspoken levels. They grab Sky by the face and crash their lips against his. It’s short and borderline violent. Pulling back, they take a breath and push Sky’s face away until their arms are fully extended. 

Red pours onto the young man’s face as he registers what just happened.

Enno’s face explodes in color and they gulp. “I like you. Ok goodbye.”

They turn to run.

Sky is faster than them and grabs their arm. He spins them around and pulls them flush against him. He takes a moment to look in their face.

Enno is shocked and stunned silent, fully anticipating their escape. They look down and a hand comes up to cover their face but Sky catches that one too.

“Tell me.” Sky says lowly, next to their ear. “What do you want?”

Enno whines in the back of their throat, a high pitched screech of a scream if there ever was one. “I don’t know.”

“Yes you do.”

Another strangled sound.

Sky adjusts his grip, letting go of one of their hands so that he can guide their face back up to his. He lets go of his frustrations and takes another breath. He smiles gently. “I’m not letting you go until you answer my question.”

Enno shakes their face free from his hold but Sky holds onto them still, staying true to his word. This isn’t going to end easily. Enno can deny everything and ruin it further or they could be honest with themselves and throw all insecurities and anxieties out the window for this one very crucial moment in time. If there was ever a time to not think about something, or to stop running away, this would be it. Enno isn’t sure if they have the strength to make the choice.

Screw it. Enno stands straighter and kisses Sky again. One hand grabs him by the clip of his sailcloth to pull him ever closer while the other rests on his shoulder for stability purposes.

Sky is quick to respond this time, wrapping his arms around them. He goes for their hips closing whatever distance may have been left over. He puts all his attention to the way the kiss feels and how they move against each other.

After a while, he cups their face and snakes his hand back to intertwine it with the baby hairs at the back of their neck.

Enno pulls back first to breathe.

Sky follows on impulse, fluttering his eyes open when he doesn’t make contact. He clears his throat and wraps his arms around their waist, lacing his fingers together when they meet. “You already know what I want.”

“I do.” Enno whispers.

A smile graces over Sky’s face and he chances another kiss to the tip of their nose. “And?”

“And?”

Sky raises an eyebrow. 

Enno crumbles under the look. “I really like you, ok? Shut up and stop being pretty!”

Sky laughs and lets them go so he doesn’t accidentally spit in their face from the strength of his laughter. “I think you’re the first person to call me that if I’m being honest.”

“Well you are. And it’s dumb. And it doesn’t let me think because it’s distracting.”

“Thank you.” Sky grins brighter.

“Oh my god.” Enno folds and screams again, catching it in their throat so that it’s silenced. “Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?”

“I think you’re cute and smart and awesome and I like you.” Sky answers simply. “And you kissed me too.”

“Shut up.” Enno turns and kisses him again, aiming to get him to focus on anything other than what’s immediately happening.

They pull back once more and Sky grins like a love drunk man. 

Enno huffs from the energy they’re spending to keep themselves from falling apart. “Look!”

“Believe me I’m looking.”

“You’re impossible.” They say. “And charming. And smart. And stupid. And pretty. And a hero. Why me?”

“Why not you?” Sky says softly, taking their hand.

“This is only going to end badly.”

“Did someone tell you that?”

“...No.” Enno fidgets with the hem of their sleeve. “I’m not from here. I’d have to leave at some point. And we’ll never see each other again. We both know this.”

“Do we?” Sky challenges. “Do we not even try then? Surely there are options. It’s not like we haven’t been traveling through space and time as it is. We even went to your world for a short while. It’s possible.”

Enno can feel their grip on Sky tighten ever so slightly. It’s not that they don’t want this. But something in them tells them to be realistic. To not get hurt. To see the bigger picture and not fight it.

Sky isn’t like that. And Enno knows it. So even if they think he isn’t listening to them, another voice says that he’s always been a believer, an optimist and someone who tries no matter the odds. This was the man who fought Demise himself and won.

Surely he might have a point.

Enno gulps and can feel tears gather in the corner of their eyes. Tumbled and hesitant laughter flows from their lips. “You’re crazy.”

“You’re worth it.”

“...”

“...”

“Fine.” Enno laughs louder. “Oh my god. Fine! You win!”

Sky looks like the cat that caught the canary. He reaches down and laces his fingers with Enno’s and holds them up. “That took a lot of convincing.”

“I’m sorry.” Enno quiets their laughter into broken giggles.

“Nothing to apologize for.” Sky reassures them, tucking a bit of their hair behind their ear.

“I’m sorry for taking so long to get my crap together.” Enno reiterates.

“You’re forgiven.” Sky snorts. “Happy?”

“Very.”

“Good. I am too.”

So I already have some ideas in my head for how OOTF is going to go so here's some songs I plan to use for it and where :] (most of these aren't in order except for the prequel)

So the first 3 are for the vs FD fight at the start of the series. The plan plays before the fight and its basicly where Bam and the Boss are figuring out how they should go about fighting FD without hurting/killing preston in the process, world's end valentine(orchestra) is the bosses theme for the fight, and the attack of the killer queen remix is preston vs fd or Preston's last Stand where he needs to cut the strings of fd attached to him :]

The shara x AOTKQ remix is for the V2 fight (where preston and rosey beat his ass)

The last 2 are both themes for Jiv battles (there's a reason his themes are both Chara related hehe)

The first one is obvious, it's datchias theme and since her theme includes megalo strike back which is Jivs theme, they're fighting Jiv.

The 2 it means everything remixes are themes for Kim which will make more since later

Fish Snapshot I Guess

Current Favorite Color: what's funny is that purple and teal are my favorite combination, so I'd have to say both at once? I'm also a fan of blue and orange, but only together. Last Song: Not counting me trying to search through spotify to find one specific tune in this k-drama, it was Labour by Paris Paloma, which goes hard while being so damn catchy, I cannot recommend it enough.

Currently Reading: Okay I'm trying to retrain my brain to read long things at a stretch again to mixed degrees of failure, but currently I'm rereading Saiyuki, which is a fantastic series that more people should definitely know about. I also just barely picked up and started to read Wuthering Heights today after a discussion with my roommate about how twisted Gothic romances are. So, here's hoping I can actually get through it without getting distracted fjkdsal;fd

Currently Watching: Scarlet Heart: Ryeo. Again. Mostly because one of my roommates had me watch it years ago and now we're getting the other roommate into it. I've never laughed so hard or wanted to cry so much. The characters are so good. The story is so good. The soundtrack is impeccable. Out of all the dramas I've ever seen, literally nothing tops this for writing, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Currently Craving: Does sleep count There's actually this really good Bioshock-themed tea blend on Adagio that I've been craving a lot lately -- I wish my budget would let me make another tea splurge again jfkdlsjafl;d

Coffee or Tea: I think the above may help my case, but I'm dEFINITELY a tea kinda gill. Iced, hot, herbal, black, green.....I have a lot jfkdl;safd I could buy stock in Adagio at this point. It's not that I don't like coffee! I'm a sucker for a good latte, but I don't crave sweet drinks often, so I much prefer tea.

my final opinion on Fashion Dreamer as a devoted fan of style savvy

so as my initial deep disappointment started wearing off, i realised that it was unfair of me to immediately compare Fashion Dreamer to the style savvy series so harshly because they are simply not the same! Fashion Dreamer IS co developed by synsophia and it IS a game that revolves around fashion, but otherwise, they’re two completely different games.

you dont have a boutique to run, you dont have any customers to assist, you cant make connections with people and gradually make a name for yourself, you cant improve the community in the setting you live in etc etc. your just an influencer doing vague fashion related tasks and irl “influencer” would do.

tl;dr once i separated the two and started to see Fashion Dreamer as its own game instead a style savvy without any charm i started to really enjoy it for what it is

there’s no real tangible story here at all, only faint goals to achieve very early game and then thats it, and its obvious that they were never going for that in the first place because this isn't style savvy! its a completely new game that only has SynSophia working on in collaboration with another company. im sure if nintendo didn't decline SynSophia's request for another style savvy game on the switch this im sure this conversation would not exist but unfortunately, they did, and now we only have Fashion Dreamer, which serves as a descendant of a successor to the style savvy games.

now that i've managed to separate Fashion Dreamer and style savvy as two completely different games i want to talk about what i actually /like/ about Fashion Dreamer. i was super super disappointed my first time playing not only because i immediately held it to exact same standards as a style savvy game, but also because by itself it felt quite unfinished.

with my very first time playing i felt like after 2 hours or so i had already seen all the game had to offer. and while i wasn’t wrong and the gameplay just had to grow on me, still i wasn’t all that motivated with the goals you had to complete or the rewards it gave you. it also doesn’t help that there isn’t anything all that challenging about creating lookits for other muses, or any way to fail them.

yes, you have to create lookits to get epoints to make more clothes for your brand and level up so you can unlock even more clothes for your brand but ah, that part isnt really all that impressing. its just fine

i can appreciate all the effort that went into the clothes making process though, that’s definitely the most impressive part of this game. i’d say its the most impressive thing out of all the fashion games ive ever played. i have soo much fun making my own clothes! as an artist i feel like my creativity has no limits and i can literally make whatever i want, however i imagine it. for me, this one amazing feature alone is enough to carry the rest of the games mediocrity.

once i have an idea for a piece of clothing i think would look nice, i can just take out FD and create what i thought of immediately. even though i forgot about it for so long, for a brief period as an adolescent i really really wanted to be fashion designer and this feature reminded me of my silly wish and made me love it all the more

i also like the photo egg stuff, the poses are all super cute and i like the expressions the muses make. im very glad that they put in a scrapbook feature that allows you to save specific ensembles (that and no way to filter clothes by color were probably my biggest complaint) i already have a bunch of outfits saved in my notebooks that i absolutely adore. i do wish they were prettier backgrounds for notebooks though

and the event stuff.. is just fine. it's not the worst thing in the world, i enjoy creating outfits for character or player muses out of all but it also isnt that fun. a little grindy and annoying, but just fine. if this game had a story or plotline to follow i think i would be able to enjoy it alot more maybe? running around cocoons doing vague influencer-like tasks just isnt all that engaging for me.

the last thing i'd like to say about FD is that i actually do get happy when ppl like my stuff. like wow, they actually like my product! it does make me kinda feel like i do have a semi successful brand that people are paying attention to. ofc most of my reasons for designing clothes is because i was inspired too, but getting those fake like notifications make me want to display them just in case others would like them too.

in conclusion, all of this to say what exactly?? i enjoy Fashion Dreamer now! i like it quite a lot, i find it enjoyable and satisfying, and it scratches those fashion related itches ive been having but didn't know how to make them go away. i really love being able to create clothes exactly how i imagine them, and i enjoy being able to dress my oc's up so prettily and accurately. i also really enjoy the overall art direction of this game, the backgrounds really caught my eye and they all stand out individually in my mind.

im not 100% sure but i think FD is popular in japan? which makes me happy because i know overseas and english speaking fans of style savvy really dislike this game, especially upon initial release. i was one of them but now i can say i dont hate this game at all anymore. once i stopped comparing everything to style savvy, for what it is, is just fine. the reason why i made this long ass post in the first place was because FD already gets SOO much hate online from everyone, and i think its a little unwarranted. if this me talking about everything i dislike about FD this post would probably be much longer lmao, but i didnt want to add to all the flack it gets. if you stopped playing after a few hours like i did i'd say its definitely worth a second chance! just see it for what it is and you'll have a much better time

Daisuke Takahashi - Cutting Edge 2005

Congratulations to Kana and Daisuke for an amazing performance at Worlds! I'm so glad they finally managed to skate a program that they're happy with, in front of the home crowd.

When I first heard that Phantom of the Opera would be Kanadai's FD this season, I was skeptical. But it made for an amazing story. I still remember 2007 Worlds so vividly -- I tuned in to the live audio stream of British Eurosport at 4am (there was no video stream back then!) and cried with happiness when Daisuke won the silver medal. I never imagined that another lifetime later, he'd be skating to Phantom at Worlds again, this time as an ice dancer.

The legacy that Daisuke has left on the sport is undeniable. Mark Hanretty said during the ISU broadcast that so many of the 180 competitors at Worlds cited Daisuke as an inspiration. It's pretty incredible that even after becoming a two-time World Champion, Shoma stated that he still wants to be able to give a performance like Daisuke.

The first interview I ever read from Daisuke was from Cutting Edge 2005, where he said that he hopes that his skating will remain in people's hearts in the future. It's so heartwarming to know that has come true.

I translated this interview and posted it on FSUniverse in 2006. The site I used to host the original translation is gone now, but sometimes I still see parts of the interview quoted in various places. Here's the full interview and scans of from the original book.

Daisuke Takahashi Surging Brilliance and Passion (Translated from Cutting Edge 2005)

At the age of 16, he obtained the honor of becoming Japan's first men's Junior World Champion. The boy who was expected to become the ace of the next generation turns 20 this season. He has fluid skating, splendid footwork, and a natural spark that captures the hearts of spectators. If he conquers his competitive weakness, he has the ability to become the World Champion. Not a former Junior World Champion, but a true World Champion someday. A firm goal can be seen before his passionate gaze.

Those effortless jumps in exhibitions, those intense steps. If only he showed that energy in shows in competition... Daisuke Takahashi, who always makes people nervous, was even more lackluster than usual in the first half of the 2004-2005 season. In the Grand Prix Series' Trophee Eric Bompard, he was in third place after the short program, but fell four times in the free and ended up eleventh. At the important Japanese Nationals, he finished a nightmarish sixth. What happened to him in the critical pre-Olympics season?

Where did the passion for skating go?

"Last year... I hated skating. I didn't want to do it. I had an injury, but it wasn't very serious, so that wasn't the reason. Why... I don't know, but I hated being on the ice. In practice, I'd think, 'I've already skated for 30 minutes,' but not even 10 minutes had passed... When I skated, time somehow felt longer. My feelings weren't into it at all.

When I got injured in September and took a break for a while, I thought, I've done nothing but skating up until now. All through high school, I had gone from school to the rink. I'd go to school and practice in Okayama, and then go to Osaka on the weekends to practice. ...With that kind of lifestyle, I never had any fun. I didn't know how to have fun.

Then in April I started college and moved to Osaka. My environment changed, and I became more independent. When you can take care of your everyday life and school matters on your own, your perspective changes, right? So then I thought... 'Is it okay for me to only focus on skating?' But even though I thought I'd do other things, in the end I didn't do anything. I still felt that I had to skate. But when I went to the rink, I didn't want to skate at all. I neither skated well, nor had any fun doing other things. If I couldn't participate in the special training camp... I definitely would've quit skating. The reason I didn't quit was because I was at the level where I couldn't quit by my own will. That's all. But anyway, my feelings of hatred towards skating were really strong last year..."

Due to his major environment change, he began to question his life of solely skating. In the 2004-2005 season, Daisuke Takahashi wholly felt the difficulty of the sport of figure skating, where mental doubts show up in one's skating itself. But he did not end his career like this, for he is the man who went as far as becoming the Junior World Champion.

"But those feelings finally subsided when I finished sixth at Nationals in December. I thought, ah, the season is over now. Strangely, when I thought that, the turmoil disappeared. Then after Nationals was the Medalists on Ice show. I was called to participate even though I was sixth, and at first I didn't want to go. 'I'm not a medalist, so I won't go!' I said. But my coach Nagamitsu-sensei told me, 'Go anyway,' so I went reluctantly. But it turned out to be really fun! I skated to Secret Garden's 'Nocturne,' a song I chose myself. The program was a very simple one that I also choreographed myself. Since the shows were right after Nationals, I was tired after the first of the three. But as I skated, they became more and more fun. I skated happily for an audience with a program I chose and created myself! From then on, I was gradually able to think once again that skating really is fun."

Along with his recovered feelings, his skating visibly regained its spark. In Medalists on Ice, he showed unbelievable jumps and skating that made spectators think, "This is the sixth place finisher?" At the beginning of the new year, he placed first at the Universiade, and finished on an international podium again with a third place at the Four Continents Championships. Unable to maintain his good results, he finished fifteenth at the World Championships, but even so, his revitalized expression after the season's end was like a different person's.

"So last season was the season where I grew to hate skating once, but then became able to love it again. Because that happened last year, my feelings this year are different. Of course, practices are still tiresome, but I'll never slog through them reluctantly like last year. I practice decisively now with refreshed feelings. So every day, when I'm done practicing, I feel good. I don't know how that'll turn out in competition, though. (laughs)

But the biggest difference from last year is that I don't just 'wish' in competitions now. My thoughts last year like, 'I wonder if I can land this jump, it'll be nice if I can,' were merely 'wishes.' But this year, I don't wish; I have strong feelings of, 'I'll land it' or 'I won't fail.' I've practiced to have that kind of confidence this year!"

Those new feelings have already appeared on the ice. At the Japan International Challenge in October, he defeated foreign skaters and placed second! The voices of, "I want to see Daisuke in Torino!" continue to build.

Daisuke Takahashi's Craftsmanship

He captivates spectators with his beautiful skating, and excites them with his triple axels and quadruple jumps. When he sends his strong gaze to the audience, his steps have even more force. When he's on, Daisuke Takahashi is almost unrivaled. Many fans had been waiting anxiously for him, thinking, "I wanted to see this kind of male skater!" Just how was this kind of skater born?

"When I was little... I was weak, and I hated going to school. (laughs) My parents were worried about me, so they made me try many different sports. I have three older brothers, and all of them did Shaolin Kung Fu. But Shaolin is painful, isn't it? I hate pain. It's scary! At first I thought about doing hockey, which is also skating, but I couldn't do it because I was scared of getting hit in the chin. I really am a coward. (laughs)

Other than martial arts and hockey though, I originally thought gymnastics might be good. But the gymnastics place was far away in inner Okayama, so it would've been difficult for my mother to drop me off and pick me up there. So I tried skating thanks to a friend's suggestion, and it was really fun!

What about skating was fun... I can't remember anymore. I don't remember what about it was fun at all, but anyway, it was fun. I didn't take skating lessons with the intention of becoming a serious athlete, or because I admired anyone. I just started it normally, without thinking about anything. When I was little, I used to joke around saying, 'I'm going to skate in the Olympics!' but it really was just a joke. I skated really contentedly just thinking of it as a hobby.

But... when I won Junior Worlds in my first year of high school, I thought, 'I have to do this as a serious athlete' for the first time. That I can't just do this as a hobby. I felt that I had to become a responsible athlete. To think that... shouldn't have been so difficult. But after Junior Worlds, I was completely awful in seniors, right? I might've tried too hard to become serious after skating as a hobby for so long... No, I didn't try hard enough to be able say that (laughs), but these past few years, I tried too hard with only my feelings. With those feelings accumulating for so long... last year, I just thought, 'I don't want to skate anymore.'

But even though I say that, it's not that grandiose of a story! When I talk about it like this, it sounds exaggerated. (laughs)"

Skating fixations, style fixations

The boy who attracted great expectations due to his talent and potential forgot his feelings of "Skating is fun" and "I love skating" somewhere down the line. But now that he has remembered that important something, he is able to laugh away all the hardships he has had. One can also see his relaxed attitude towards skating.

"Truthfully, there aren't really any skaters that I aim to be like. Of course, I like certain parts about skaters; for example, I want Nobunari-kun's flexibility. But this year I've been working on my flexibility, so I've become a little more flexible! Also, I want Jeffrey Buttle's transitions. His transitions between elements and connection to the music are really amazing. There are various skaters whom I want to steal things from like that, but none of whom I think, 'Everything about him is great!' Because Takahashi's ideals are high. (laughs)

But there's the actor Joe Odagiri, right? I love him! I love his atmosphere. He has this mysterious air about him that other people don't have, right?

I admire that mysterious charm, so although I'm not trying to imitate Odagiri-san, I'd like to show that kind of charm that attracts both men and women in my skating. Do I think I'm handsome? I've never been conscious about that kind of thing! No, I don't, I don't. (laughs) I'm trying to become handsome, though! Because out of the four brothers in my family, I'm the plainest. I don't look like my three older brothers at all. Ah, I think the second eldest has gotten a little chubby lately, and has become a little dirty looking?

My brothers never talk about skating. Their attitude is, 'Why don't you just do what you want?' Though they do cooperate with me... Generally, my brothers don't watch my skating. (laughs) But it's easier that way. Isn't it easier to go home and not talk about skating? We talk about completely unrelated things, like they ask me, 'Have you gotten any presents from girls?'

Since I have those brothers, I'm not popular at all. (laughs) I'm bad with girls. Actually, I think girls are scary. (laughs) My skating friends are fine, but... I'm bad with girls I like. I can't talk to them at all. But I look okay with long hair, right? Didn't I look better when I had long hair? My choreographer in America, Nikolai, cut my current hair! Though, I had planned for a better hairstyle...

There's that much of a difference between my normal self and my skating self?

No, there's no difference. I'm always like this. But when I'm on the ice... I like people watching me. I want everyone to watch me. Starting from practice, I want people to watch me, not other skaters. I might really want to stand out! So when I come to Nobeyama, I skate while conscious of people around me. Anyway, I want to become really famous!

I want to become a skater that everyone in Japan knows. So I think of Miki Ando as my rival. (laughs) Though we haven't really become rivals at all. Huh, this interview is going to become a book? The picture you just took will be the cover? Seriously? I'll buy it when it comes out! You'll send me one? Yay!"

To Torino, with Nikolai Morozov's programs!

He says there's no difference between his off-ice and on-ice persona. But when this friendly young man stands on the ice, he turns into the ultimate entertainer who draws all eyes to him. Mysteriously, he shows us a completely different Daisuke Takahashi. But that's probably the Daisuke Takahashi who mischievously thinks, "I want to stand out, I want to attract people's attention." This year, a new choreographer who helps to bring out his entertainer quality even more joined Takahashi's team.

"My choreographer this year is Nikolai Morozov. At first, I thought about asking Lori Nichol. But when Nagamitsu-sensei suggested, 'How about Morozov?' I thought, 'Ah, that might be good...' Right when I heard Morozov's name, I thought, 'That might be good.' Just based on my feelings, I thought Nikolai might be better than Lori. I'd never had choreography done by either of them before. When I was with Tatiana [Tarasova] last year and the year before, Nikolai had already split from her. So that's how I went to Morovoz's place in America for the first time this year... There was no need to give him my opinions at all. I'm plenty satisfied with what he created! Since Nikolai's ideas just came flowing out one after the other, rather than telling him, 'I want to do this,' at first I had trouble trying to see how well I could do what he asked of me.

After Nikolai made my programs in America, he also looked after my practices... Nikolai used to be an ice dancer, so there are a lot of dancers around him like Ukraine's Grushina/Goncharov and Russia's Kulikova/Markov... Besides getting choreography, I learned a lot of things by watching Nikolai's practices with them. In Japan, the rink I used to skate at closed down, and the rink I skate at now is hard to commute to. But I was able to practice in a good environment this year thanks to my connection to Nikolai. Since I was able to practice well in the off-season, I don't want to lose to Nikolai's choreography! My free program this year is Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto, so I don't want to lose to Rachmaninov's music either! I want to show my own interpretation of it."

The Morozov programs he chose by intuition fit him perfectly. They are dramatic and sensational. In 2005-2006, the Olympic season arrives, as if it had been waiting for his mental growth and new choreographer. If he makes it, it will be his first Olympics. What kind of skating does he intend to show us?

"I haven't had many performances that I've truly been satisfied with. The only ones I can say were really good are this year's free program from the Universiade and the short program from the World Championships in Germany. And, well, the performances that I won Junior Worlds with. That's about it. Those are the only ones I think were 'complete' performance-wise, regardless of the jumps.

In competitions, I'm always overwhelmed. When I skate, I don't think about anything. When I receive applause during the steps I'm happy that the audience is cheering me on, but I can only feel like that for a split second during the performance. This is different in shows and exhibitions. Because I can be at ease with feelings like, 'It'd be nice if both the audience and I have fun.' That's why Dreams on Ice wasn't bad.

But this year, I want to have more satisfying performances in competition! My goal is to go to the Olympics, and I'm aiming for... the podium! I want to have a goal that's at least that high. (laughs) Everyone is serious this year aiming for the Olympics, which only one person can go to. Of course, I'm aware of the others. Even if we practice together, I don't dislike anyone. So if someone else goes instead of me, I want to cheer him on. I want to fight everyone without any bad feelings. But of course, other people have nothing to do with my own skating. So even above that, I want to have my own goals. I'll continue working on my flexibility, becoming more flexible little by little over the next four years, towards my final goal of Vancouver. I'm thinking of Torino as a stepping stone... but without abandoning my feelings of wanting to medal. If I'm lucky, that is. (laughs)

In Vancouver... it'd be nice if I could become the Olympic Champion. I want not only the people who watch at that time, but also young skaters way in the future, when I become an old man, to see my skating. My goal is to become good enough so that people will watch videos of me and say, 'Daisuke Takahashi was really good.' So that my skating will remain in the hearts of people who watched the Olympics. So that it will resonate in their hearts, no matter how many years pass. In order to make my skating have that kind of worth... Takahashi skates today!"

This was the interview he gave during the training camp. After we finished talking, he headed straight to the rink. His extremely serious appearance while skating, and his bright appearance while joking with friends... Hiding his tough heart with a smile, to Torino, to Vancouver. His journey continues. And someday, everyone in the world, not just Japan, will surely know of Daisuke Takahashi.

Trust someone in marketing to care more about the presentation of something than the content. And, as a scientist, I do resent the way Nina just acts as though scientists don't know how to dress. Just because I get to wear street clothes to the lab (look, you don't want synthetic fabrics around chemicals. You just don't. Cotton all the way, folks! Or linen or wool, depending) doesn't mean I don't know how to dress up and look stunning when I want to. Or, at least, my partners have used stunning to describe me, but I suppose they may just be biased. REGARDLESS, Nina's being a bit catty here, and that definitely makes me feel like she deserves what she gets. But the control isn't ... it isn't a style I enjoy in my kink stories, so on a lot of levels this is just a miss for me. If you like someone being overwhelmed with ... well, ok, in this universe it's science but no, that isn’t how any of this works, so it's magic. You might just enjoy this. 3/10 spirals.

Given who Adventure Girl makes me think of, it's WEEIRD to see her juxtaposed with Venus Ascendant, given who Venus makes me think of. (Look, her age says Supergirl, but her origin says Ms. Marvel. And I'm a Carol Danvers fan.) But holding that aside, because it isn't really important, gosh this is a Good Story. The Girdle of Minerva works so well, and watching Adventure Girl grapple with the same sorts of "but good girls don't!" that I too had to unlearn is ... cathartic? Kind of? It doesn't hit my hot buttons exactly - too much magic, which if y'all have been following my reviews won't come as a surprise - but it's still really good. 7/10 spirals

  Closer to the Heart

How can I even *start* to review this one? This isn't just my favourite Jukebox story - my favourite story on the EMCSA *other* than one my spouse wrote for and dedicated to me! - but it was FORMATIVE to my hypnokink, to my sense of what I might possibly *find* in a relationship. I didn't know what healthy, happy romantic relationships looked like when I was as young as I was when I read this story, back when it was first posted. Not *really.* My parents were always so very private about their relationship, and I knew enough to know that media wasn't ... it just wasn't. Add in the "I'm not really interested in sex itself" with the strong hypnokink, and I was so adrift. Sure, there were, like, 2 book series I read that had Healthy Relationships, but they didn't have any of the kink nuance, so that didn't help.But this story. This story has so many moments that I read and my brain went "that. I want *THAT.*" The mix of romance and fun kinky things in this story became my measuring stick for relationships I was in, and if I realized that a partner wasn't living up to that? That they weren't showing me the respect Lynn shows Michael? I was done. And I needed that, more than once, unfortunately. But it also helped me internalize that I *could* have that kind of relationship. And now I do - 4 times over! I've mentioned before on my blog how a line from this story became a guiding benchmark for me, the idea of "everything we do comes from love." Whether love of community, love of a friend, or romantic love, that central tenant has helped me know when to stop doing something I was no longer doing for the right reasons, and to grow into an adult who knows when to - and how to! - say no.That's a LOT to put into a story, I realize, and it isn't just this story that did it. But it was absolutely a catalyst for so much of that. I would not be who I am today if it weren't for this story. I probably wouldn't have even felt like I belonged in this community without this story, and a few others (one by Jukebox, and a couple by Wiseguy).So all that said, let's get into the actual text of the story, shall we?

While we start with sexual stuff immediately, it's also instantly clearly part of the conditioning/brainwashing process, so that's all good by my standards. There's such obvious love and connection between Michael and Lynn, and she so gently and tenderly reinforcing her control as she moves through the chakras. And then, when we get to the heart chakra, and Michael stops being passive because he loves Lynn so much, and has such a need to communicate that to her... it melts my heart. The way she drops out of pet names and just uses his name in that moment, the mantra... so much good here. And then the moment where we see Michael is so aware of how much Lynn loves him in return is so tender... to me, that's the true climax of this story, the sharing in love that has been well tended and grown by *both* of them. It's just tender and sweet and lovely and I am so very fond of both Michael and Lynn, here and in every story we see with them. 9001/10 spirals.

There's a really interesting suggestion in here, and it's one I definitely plan to use for (short-term) shenanigans with a partner at some point. The idea of them being consumed by curiosity, focusing entirely on a fixation object as it sucks their thoughts away? Oh yes, I'm using that. The rest of this story? It's good enough, but doesn't quite get me invested the way other stories have and do. Some of that is the contrast to Closer to the Heart, of course; I remember 12 years ago, reading this one the week after Closer to the Heart and wishing that this had been closer to that - and I still do. But this one stands well on its own, if I make myself stop comparing it to Closer to the Heart. Seeing how Cat's mind changes in response to the control is *delightful,* and it's well thought out. It's just a bit impersonal for me, is all. 8/10 spirals.

Hmm, another one of those stories that never quite feels erotic - surreal horror, maybe? Still really good for what it is, just a bit ... not quite fitting amongst the rest of the stories on the archive. But it's well written, we really, TRULY get a sense of what Monica was running from and why she's scared, and it fits so very well. Though I have to wonder how nobody's noticed this before now. Surely enough folk gathered by those who serve would have people who miss them! 7/10 spirals

I feel bad for Addison here; he's mostly an innocent bystander in this one. Wouldn't it have made more sense to just tell him to forget the secrets involved and only have to worry about one person - a seemingly not well-liked one! - disappearing? Ah well, leaving my opinions on what makes sense aside, this is a bit ... clinical? which is the point, of course, but it makes it hard for me to see it as erotic, personally. But the method works, and I enjoy the (entirely too brief) description of the experience Addison has. If you like more detatched/clinical control, you'll likely enjoy this one? 6/10 spirals

This ends the only way it possibly could, and I don't think that's inherently a bad thing? Because the *how* we end up where it ends up is a bigger draw than the "where is this going?" sentiment would be. It's fun to watch how Alicia slowly brainwashes herself with Holly's voice, though I can't help but shake my head at her not realising she was doing that. Ah well, hopefully it will work out for the best and they can be a happy trio; I've seen well how two subby gals can be in love and reinforcing their submission to a shared dominant partner; it can be *super* cute. Though that does involve more consenting submsision, but what can you do, I suppose? I do have to wonder just how much actual rest Holly was getting, but it seemed to work for her? 8/10 spirals

I feel like the last part of this sort of skews away from what would be - to me! - a much more interesting story. But it ends up more or less exactly where I expected it to - after 139 stories, I think I'm getting a sense of where Jukebox is going with these pretty quickly from the tone. The first two thirds of the story is good - the approach of a telepath who's trying not to give into her powers is fun! But the cruel ending to it, caused by another telepath, is less my vibe. 6/10 spirals.

Honestly, do people not understand the idea of too good to be true? I suppose there would be fewer good stories if they did, and after all it can be hard to resist temptation. And to be fair, Isabelle did speak truly, for all she left significant details out. It's a fun story, and the sense of how Sylvia is overwhelmed and conditioned and brainwashed is wonderful. Having said that, I don't actually like the light and sound machines - unless I'm already SUPER fractionated, they just give me a wicked headache (I should know, I experimented with them once upon a time, thanks to Wiseguy) - so I do wince a little at the idea of waking from sleep right into one. But that's a me thing - plenty of folk really like light and sound machines, and I know from friends' testimonies that they can be amazingly hypnotic for a lot of folk! So that just makes all of this feel more real, and more personal. It's just all around a good story that hits a lot of things I like. 9/10 spirals.

FD Survivors as SCPs *Part 1*

/Hello again all, 

It’s been a while. I’ve just been busy with some personal stuff, college, fanfic ideas, Pokemon-related stuff, etc. I honestly didn’t think that my first SCP post would garner some attention from the Final Destination fandom the way it did but it did. I mean it was kind of a casual idea that I had going on in my head that I didn’t think would go anywhere. But I guess it’s starting to take shape. Also, if anyone wants to make fanart based off of my SCP matchups, by all means go ahead. And I’d also like to give out a disclaimer: Much like in my previous post about this, these matchups are based solely on my opinions and what I think fits. Apologies if we disagree, but I did say that if you did have a different opinion, feel free to post it in the comments. Which by the way, feel free to do the same here. I put this as Part 1 in the event that anyone wants to see more in the future. @hatsumesgoggles, this one is for you. This took about a decent 10-20 mins of research and internal debating before making the final decision.

Anyways~ 

This is another FD/SCP crossover post, but this time it’s with the survivors. 

Starting off with: 

Nathan -  SCP-26805 aka "The Helper Spirit": Now this one is a bit of a mixed case for me, as the SCP in question could apply to basically any of the sidekicks to the visionaries since they all share the same role. And Nathan is no exception to this. And it especially doesn’t help when this SCP isn’t as well-known as some of the classics, like 106 or 035. But I will give you a brief rundown as to what this thing does. Basically, it’s a spirit that can possess anyone and ONLY the person possessed can see its true form. It is also know to cause what can be broken down to and choked up as an adrenaline rush, such as being able to lift heavy objects or withstand bullets. And while possessing the person in question, it leaves behind a clone of itself (SCP-26805-1). But when it leaves the host, the host can’t even remember what the thing looks like after being released from its grasp. And if you think that’s it, that this thing isn’t so scary, let me give you a quick fact: this thing was one of the few scps that can literally incapacitate larger SCPs like 682. You gotta admit that that’s pretty powerful as it can basically temporarily turn you into a Jojo stand user. Now why Nathan in particular when I said that this could also apply to other characters? Well, Nathan does say that he can see dead people. I... unfortunately do not have any other reason why other than Nathan making a reference to the Sixth Sense to match him up with it. And also, going back to how this can also apply to other characters, this thing can literally possess multiple people at once, such as when some Chaos Insurgency members got possessed and with the power the received, almost destroyed an entire site. However, they were twarted by another army of 26805-1′s who were on the side of the Foundation. This also shows that this being isn’t purely a force for good, but it can also be used for evil too. Which is why it’s classified as Euclid, not harmful per say, but not safe either. This thing could literally possess anyone, meaning literally any FD character (unless I come up with different and better matchups). Hell, the closest thing to a helper spirit moment that happens in the FD series would be when Alex saves Carter. Too bad this thing wasn’t around to save him from being hit with a brick. 

(I’m gonna be honest with you guys and say that I originally wanted to place a cooking based scp with Nathan because fun fact: the whole cooking gig that every FD fan and their dog knows Sam had throughout the 5th film was originally supposed to go to Nathan before it got cut. The more you know.) 

Kevin - SCP-965 aka “The Face in the Window”: This one was also difficult to pin down because most of the SCPs that I tried or thought could fit were either phenomenon’s or literal objects, humanoid or sports-themed specifically, but none of them really seemed to fit with Kevin in my eyes. That was until I learned about SCP-965, aka “The Face in the Window”. This thing only appears when the “outside” of the window is slightly darker than the “inside” by 5 candelas. This thing can appear in the window regardless of how dark or light it is. It’s still there even if you tried to cover it up by closing the curtains. This thing is also known to instill the feelings of unease, nervousness, and paranoia and the areas in which it is seen are fully assembled window frames, regardless if installed or not (SCP-965-1). The only way it changes homes is if you destroy the current -1 and it reappears in a different window with no explanation. Also, if you sleep in a room with a window containing this thing, be prepared for the non-physical, yet choatic nightmares you’re gonna face. They’re so bad that they will leave you feeling as though you’re being watched or stalked in the waking world. And if these dreams become more frequent, the side effects you may experience are, but not limited to: 

- heartburn or abdominal pain 

-vomiting blood or have blood in bodily wastes 

-ulcers 

-and low-grade hemorrhaging in varied locations of the victim’s gastrointestinal tract. 

These symptoms happen because exposure to this thing is what’s causing abnormal spikes of fear and paranoia, allowing these symptoms to happen. It’s a traumatic experience and the more pain you feel, the bigger its monstrous grin grows. Now why did I place him with Kevin instead of 26805, like I did with Nathan? If you know anything about the visions in the films or how any of the characters die, you’d know that Kevin’s vision-based deaths have a lot to do with windows. Such as the picture of the flash going off in his face making it look like he got squashed against a window, or how in Wendy’s last vision, he’s sucked out of the window of the subway train and reduced to, as James A. Janisse once so lovingly put it, “a strawberry shortcake”. Plus throughout the film, while trying to put on a brave and helpful front around Wendy, is fearful and uneasy, which fits this to a tea. But then again, all FD characters feel this way to some extent, because it’s difficult to not be traumatized after the things they went through. (Also, a more morbid part of me is amused at the idea of Ghost!Kevin haunting windows, especially near where he “died”. I put “died” in quotation marks because like how I mentioned in my previous post about how we don’t know whether Wendy or Kim are alive and well, we don’t know Kevin’s fate either. For all we know he could be hidden away somewhere safe and vibing with Julie and Wendy.) 

Olivia - SCP-056 aka “A Beautiful Person”: Much like how I felt SCP-105 was a good choice for Wendy and to quote what I said in that section of the post: “Do I really need to explain this? To me it just seemed pretty fitting.” I mean seriously, does this really require an explanation as to why? Have you seen Olivia? She is literally a ✨Q U E E N✨. But in all seriousness and simping aside, she is very vainly beautiful. We see her take her shirt off in one scene and just preferring to wear more open clothes. She also really hates her glasses and it is why she visits an eye-laser sugery clinic leading up to her death. She values her looks so much to the point where it gets her into a heated rivalry with Candice. When I thought about what SCP should fit her best, 056 was the first one that came to mind as some of its behavior and abilities sound like Olivia. It can change its appearence at will according to its environment and the people around it. It can turn into either the most handsome man or the most beautiful woman. It’s so attractive to look at to the point where it leaves others feeling insecure and jealous of it. Sound familiar? Kind of like the rivalry that Olivia and Candice had as mentioned earlier. It’s also very vain but can be helpful if so desired. No one knows its true form behind the numerous masks it wears. Despite what everyone feels about it, it still gets its way. 

So anyway, those were my matchups. And again, some aren’t perfect but that’s what opinions and having discussions about said opinions in the comments are for. And if you want to see more, let me know. (Also, i just found out a few minutes ago as I am finishing this post that 26805 isn’t really part of the canon and is a fanmade scp but lets pretend that it is, at least for the sake of this post)

R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?

Yes! Glau inspired me to challenge myself with exploring styles other than the one I had been using for a long long while, and I'm still immensely grateful! I also still draw inspiration from Michael Scott and his Nicholas Flamel series, more for the storytelling and character building. Damn I need to try and read my old favourites again soon.

A: How did you come up with the title to Deserving?

Late at night after dishing out about 3-4k words and desperately wanting to post and not having a title. x) I don't remember exactly where it came from, but the title definitely came to me before the title drop moment. It always referred to 'deserving to be loved', but I couldn't tell you anymore how deep the thought truly went the day I decided on it. This fic evolved so, so much, and the meaning sort of evolved into the title the longer I went and built on the themes.

V: A secondary (or underrated) character you want to see more of in fic?

Most of the Zeldas, really, I want to see more of them!! Otherwise though, Hyrule! There is a severe lack of Hyrule-focused fic. This needs to be rectified.

I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading)?

I'm gonna split the two Is :P Yes, absolutely I do, and it's both timeloop fics and "return to start with your memories intact"-fics. I have a soft spot for events being reshuffled by a character with knowledge, as cliche as it is.

O: How do you begin a story–with the plot, or the characters?

Mostly the characters! I usually think of a neat trait or an idea for a character first, and then build my story around that (which is why a lot of them lack direction in the plot and give me trouble with it later). I've only ever started with a plot idea a couple times, and I like it too, but I definitely am a character-driven writer.

L: What’s the weirdest AU you’ve ever come up with?

Probably the gamer AU where Mask and FD are siblings, FD sometimes takes over for Mask in games with the rest of the Chain to stomp everyone but barely talks, because Mask keeps the headset on. FD's real name is Ferdinand. Time is their dad. I should do more with this it was immensely fun to sketch out

I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (writing)?

Long long long long introspective scenes. Putting my own spin of words on a recollection of a situation. It's so boring to read for anyone else, but I love doing it. Most of this ends up being cut and moved into a separate document during the editing process because it messes up the flow more often than not, but it's my comfort writing. Also, casual introduction banter scenes. There are introduction scenes of almost 2k length I have not published lmao, just because they usually head a oneshot and make it unnecessarily longer. Such are my woes
