I think Edwin would both genuinely appreciate tone indicators (to an extent - he would have Views on the uselessness of /hj for example) and also weaponize them. Not by using them falsely because that completely defeats the point and he would firmly disapprove but like he’d say something surprisingly un-insulting to Crystal (out loud) and finish his sentence with “forward slash aitch oh ess”.

“Okay, first of all, Edwin, tone indicators are for text, I would think having to pronounce punctuation would have cued you to that, and second of all, you mean pee oh ess.” “I meant precisely what I said, Crystal. Which was an indicator that my tone was hostile.” Crystal frowns and runs back through the possible meanings of Edwin’s original sentence for several seconds before her eyes widen. “You little shit - ”

Or. He compliments her clothes and then pauses. Makes a face like a cat that’s gotten catnip-laced cream. Opens his mouth again to speak. Is interrupted by Crystal. “Let me guess. You’re about to say forward slash ess?” Edwin gives her the most infuriating little tight-lipped smirk and nods while Crystal rolls her eyes.

esteban x ollie (#16 x #15 in the sprint) for the f1rpf race roll prompt

Esteban's track record with teammates is, not good, to put it lightly. To put it heavily, everyone and their mother is worried that Esteban is going to eat little Ollie Bearman in the womb.

(That's not possible. Ollie is little only in age and he's proven himself in far worse cars than a Haas. And yet.)

Still he's not going to poke the bear - heh - if it doesn't need poking. He's going to be extremely polite and extremely accommodating and he's going to ensure that his new teammate stays Oliver Bearman F1 Driver in his contacts for eternity. Maybe he'll drop the F1 in a couple years.

Basically he's going to be detached. Like a Jedi.

Small problem though. Nobody seems to have told Ollie about any of this.

Ollie is all over him. He's grinning at him all big and huge from day 1, completely comfortable to scooch right up next to him and ask him questions, film ridiculous videos and just generally sputter about him in a very teenaged boy way. He's not a bouncing bundle of energy like some of the others on grid, he's awkward with some of the best of them and shy to boot, but he's got a streak of something wickedly earnest that Esteban can't help but be endeared to.

And god, but he's so young. He holds himself almost gingerly after his first crash in practice, entire form folded in and Esteban is by his side offering him guidance before he's realized he's out of the car. He smiles at crowds and ducks his head and leans right into Esteban, almost just barely an inch behind him and then he's saying something, and help it's fucking funny and now Esteban is laughing with his new teammate in front of everyone.

It's fine, it's good, it's normal and it's detached. Ollie is just a nice boy. He's a good colleague. It's fine.

Then someone asks him The Question. And Ollie just brushes it off. Says words like good and kind and helpful and we'll see and it's the bare minimum honestly but it's been a long time since the bare minimum. No one had told him it felt so good.

Ollie comes trundling back to his side on long long legs that will never feel anything but awkward - he knows - and flicks him a grin and there is something distinctly warm pooling in his chest.

Ollie leans in towards him. Esteban moves a hand out, flattens it on his thin waist, wants to curl it in, just so.

It's fine. It's good. It's normal.

Day 16

As the human and I did not share any duties during this particular cycle, I decided now might be a fitting time to inform the Vitrichl about the aforementioned book, which could possibly grant a further insight into Terrans.

Despite the quite serious circumstances we are currently in, I was able to secure a time frame to initiate a conversation regarding this topic.

I repeated the information V-7 had been able to conjure on this as well as other stories and reports on humans.

"There seems to be one…obstacle, though: The book‘s last documented location is in system Skė-51-33, which does not seem to be even remotely near our current route.", I eludicated.

The Vitrichl seemed to consider the information given, keeping in mind the reason the SIIR Noxos usually avoids this particular system: its unfriendly and occasionally aggressive nature.

Concluding, I was able to convince the Vitrichl through the benefits this book could provide in the task of studying humans, causing the Vitrichl to eludicate that changing the route was currently not possible, but as soon as the chance was offered to us, we would make a short detour through this system to retrieve said book, given that the book was still located there.

In the meantime, I was tasked with retrieving as much possible information on this particular and other sources about humans.

Our arrival on Fendaar is imminent, as we are nearing the planet‘s atmosphere. Further reports will follow.
