Modern AU Jiang Yanli would probably have the cops show up to her house at least once because all of the snow on her roof melted in one specific spot and they think it's a marijuana grow operation. She would happily take them upstairs to show off her indoor garden where she grows less common varieties of crops indoors. She'd be all like "Here is my tigerella tomatoes. A couple are actually ripe! Take some with you." She's like 20 something but by the time the cops leave with a handful of various crops she was growing they think that she must actually be a reincarnated grandma. They didn't really want all of these crops but she fixed them with such a stern look when they tried to refuse that they got kind of scared and took them.

just objectum things: realizing that if you had to choose, you would save your favorite stuffed animal instead of your six hundred dollar digital camera
it sounds silly but like, technology can eventually be replaced, but Tigerella is over 25 years old and shares my memories of pretty much my entire life and could never be replaced

The humble tomato plant, Solanum lycopersicum. Botanically considered a berry, cularinarily considered a vegetable, tomatoes are one of the 9 members of the nightshade family that are safe to eat.
There are over 10,000 different tomato cultivars today, in a wide array of shapes, colours, and sizes. In 2019 I tried to grow some called tigerella, and they came out so beautifully I just had to take a picture before they were eaten. Years later, I've finally turned that photo into a coloured pencil drawing.

Savour the colourful stages of tomato ripening in this photo series...
Fruit ripening is controlled by the hormone ethylene. This chemical messenger triggers the breakdown of chlorophyll, the green pigment responsible for photosynthesis. Chlorophyll is contained in chloroplasts, tiny structures inside plant cells where photosynthesis occurs. When fruit ripens, the green pigment breaks down and red/yellow pigments called carotenoids take their place. This transforms chloroplasts into chromoplasts. The visible effect is that a tomato fruit changes from green to red.
This variety of tomato 🍅 (Solanum lycopersicum) is called Tigerella due to its attractive stripes.

A new snapshot from https://sagesacre.com/2021/02/08/first-tomato-of-the-season/
First Tomato of the Season
First tomato of the season (a Tigerella) showed up on February 6th!
My neighbor and I have a friendly competition to see who’s the first (and last) to harvest tomatoes each season.
He’s usually the first, showing off ripe fruit in late April, and I’m usually the last, still harvesting almost up to Christmas.
This year, however, I decided to make a real effort to be first so back in early December I sowed four different tomato varieties in the sunniest spot in my greenhouse.
Of the dozen plants that sprouted, all but one died before getting their third set of leaves. The one survivor, a Tigerella, continued to grow despite repeated freezes (I run a cold greenhouse), lots of leaf burn and a soil infestation of ants.
Toward the end of January the sun was finally high enough again that the greenhouse was getting light for around 10 hours a day, and the scraggly tomato started to really take off. Last week it flowered and I saw the first couple of baby tomatoes poking out from the plant.
Tigerella tomato flowering in early Feburary
If I’m lucky, the weather will hold for a few more weeks and I’ll be harvesting my first tomatoes on the first day of spring.
Hopefully my neighbor didn’t get the same head start.

one of the things I like about the existence of "tigerella" is how it's highly likely the entire inspiration behind this was jl playing around with the idea that the name of a tomato could conjure up the image of a cat woman monster, which became this almost "record cashing in on a popular pulpy horror movie" type of song.
