Glen or Glenda 1953
An American exploitation film of the early 1950s. The movie was directed, written by and starring Ed Wood.
It was widely considered one of the worst films ever made. It has since been reevaluated and has become somewhat of a cult classic.
The movie was shot in four days.

Live Free or Die Hard (2007)
Tumblr media
Live Free or Die Hard a.k.a. Die Hard 4.0 is a fair Bruce Willis action movie. It doesn’t feel like a Die Hard film - like at all - but the stunts and action setpieces are well done and exciting. So why can’t I muster much excitement for it?
NYPD detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) is bringing Matthew Farrell (Justin Long) to the FBI - he’s suspected of contributing to a nationwide computer outage. Actually, the outage is just the beginning of an elaborate cyber attack designed to disable the United State’s infrastructure. Having unknowingly written the algorithm that Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant) is employing, Farrell is now a target for assassination.
I’m at odds when it comes to Live Free or Die Hard. There are plenty of exciting scenes. While a part of your brain might die a little at the sight of McClane “throwing” a car at a helicopter, the pyrotechnics are impressive. Seeing him go toe-to-toe with Maggie Q is exciting, as are the gunfights and scenes of improvised weaponry. The cyber attack certainly offers meaningful stakes, as Thomas Gabriel has killed several people to orchestrate his plan and can use anything from redirected traffic to gas lines as weapons. You want him taken down if only so you can see that smug look on his face wiped away.
Unfortunately, the premise raises so many questions. When you find out why Gabriel is doing what he’s doing, you can’t help wondering if there wasn’t an easier way to go about it, particularly since he’s got the money necessary to set up a mobile hacker base, employ international assassins, put together convincing disguises, sneak explosives into key buildings, cover his tracks and more. You might want him stopped but he never achieves the level of menace previous Die Hard adversaries have. Some of this is due to the film’s constantly changing attitude towards hacking. Sometimes, it’s magic. I can buy Gabriel and his cronies cracking the government firewalls and security measures - they’ve been building towards this plan for months - but they can do basically anything with just a few keystrokes, including hacking into well-know hacker systems - which you would assume would be immune to that kind of thing. This tells us hackers are something to be feared… unless they aren’t. Anyone outside of Gabriel’s circle is a weiner who plays with dolls/action figures, “probably doesn’t go on a lot of dates”, and/or lives in their mother’s basement. It isn’t McClane’s meathead attitude misinterpreting what’s going on either. I mean, he does that plenty, showing an inability to wrap his mind around even basic computer-related concepts but Matt Farrell constantly proves himself the opposite of McClane: always frightened, whiny and nervous. He does manage to grow on you over time, however. McClane? I’m not sure. He gets things done because he’s an invincible action hero but there are very few times where he does any sort of outwitting. Mostly, he gets lucky.
Though I doubt the flaws I spotted while viewing Live Free or Die Hard would ever disappear, I suspect they would feel less important on a different day. The plot is unbelievable but certain elements feel true and as an action power fantasy, it's certainly impressive. Bruce Willis is still at the point in his career where he cares and brings his A-game. He and Justin Long make a pretty good double-act by the time the movie is over. I think I've talked myself into giving it a soft recommendation as a movie that will inevitably play on TV, probably around the holidays as part of a Die Hard marathon. At that point, you’re watching it “for free” from the comfort of your couch. That price feels right. (January 2, 2022)

Brooks Harris, New Jersey inmate 692289C, born 1980, incarceration intake in 2010 at age 29, scheduled for release 02/12/2051
Murder, Assault, Burglary, Theft, Conspiracy
The 29-year-old Pilesgrove resident who was found guilty of first-degree murder, as well as other offenses in late April, 2009, was sentenced to 50 years in state prison in connection with the August 2008 stabbing death of a Quinton Township man.
Brooks Harris was found guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, third-degree conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree theft, second-degree burglary, and third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary at the end of a roughly three-week trial.
Superior Court Judge Timothy Farrell handed down the sentence, which also included roughly 30 years that will run concurrent to the murder sentence. Many of the charges Harris was found guilty of were merged for the sentencing.
Harris will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole. He will be credited for time served.
The shackled Harris, dressed in an orange jumpsuit, told the court that what happened to the victim, Jeremy Huff, 26, Huff’s family and his family was very unfortunate. He said Huff was one of his best friends.
Harris also said he never thought something like this would happen to them.
“I have nothing but remorse for his family and son,” he told the court. “I cannot believe something like this happened to everybody.”
Harris was found guilty of paying $25 each to two teenagers — Lee A. Williams Jr., now 19, and Jerry M. Loatman Jr., now 18 — to kill Huff because he was allegedly looking for revenge on Huff for dating his estranged wife.
Harris’s mother also told the court about Harris both before and after the breakup with his wife.
“He’s just very kind, a kind, loving boy,” she said. “I feel since the beginning of this, Brooks has been against all odds.”
Harris, prior to the start of the sentencing, asked the court to have his attorney, Harry Leszchyn, relieved because Harris said there were many things that were not done right for the trial and sentencing. Harris went on to say he hadn’t had time to get character witnesses together to speak on his behalf.
Farrell denied the request, saying this isn’t the first time issues about counsel have been raised. He added he saw no reason why the sentencing couldn’t proceed.

My Best of 2022: Lead Actor
My Best of 2022 is a series of annual lists in which I pick the best of the best from 2022, all leading up to my official picks for My Top 10 Films of 2022.
Let this be known... despite very much being locked in their respective positions at the top of my list, I will still be cheering for Brendan Fraser come Oscar night. That being said, Farrell’s performance in The Banshees of Inisherin is better, and not only by a little. He brings the sadness of his character to life with heart-aching beauty and balances obvious contentedness and buried longing with a flawless sense of simplicity that continuously takes your breath away. Fraser brings all of The Whale’s empathy with his performance, and tackles the physical aspects of his performances with a tired sense of frustration and defeat. Fine, they’re closer to a tie, but I really do think Farrell is better, and if he does take the Oscar I won’t be mad. But how great would it be to see Fraser take it, huh?? Anyway, let’s move on. Ralph Fiennes is terrifyingly unpredictable throughout The Menu, and I left the film wanting more, even though I loved every second of what we got. Tom Cruise takes a character he played over 30 years ago and seamlessly concludes his arc with every bit of determined cockiness and controlled recklessness as he started it with. And Austin Butler delivers a star-making performance as the King of Rock ‘n Roll, Elvis Presley, in a film as messy and gaudy and vapid as the man and his music was. Seriously, though, Butler is damn good, and embodies Presley’s insecurities as perfectly as he does his garish showmanship.
The rest are either wonderfully weird (6, 8 & 9) or sublimely sincere (7 & 10), and all make their films better because of it. Here they are…
My Top 10 Performances by a Lead Actor in 2022!
1. Colin Farrell in The Banshees of Inisherin
2. Brendan Fraser in The Whale
3. Ralph Fiennes in The Menu
4. Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick
5. Austin Butler in Elvis
6. Nicolas Cage in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
7. Tom Hanks in A Man Called Otto
8. Adam Driver in White Noise
9. Daniel Radcliffe in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story
10. Gabriel LaBelle The Fabelmans
Honorable Mentions: Daniel Craig in Glass Onion; Daniel Kaluuya in Nope; Mark Rylance in The Outfit; Alexander Skarsgård in The Northman; Diego Calva in Babylon.
Enjoy!
-Timothy Patrick Boyer.
