#JackedKirby - Iron Man vs Titanium Man, Kirby Style!!! 💥💥💥 I really love the way Kirby drew Iron Man when he got the chance... he isn’t the best or most well known Iron Man artist (Heck or Milgrom probably get that nod) but he did a bunch of Iron Man covers for the split book Tales of Suspense that featured both Cap and Iron Man stories. This is #Issue71 of Tales of Suspense, published in November of 1965. 💥💥💥 Like most of the anthology books Jack did work on in the early 60s he would often pencil one of the features but also pull double duty and do the cover... even if it didn’t correspond to the interior story he penciled. This is the case here. He laid out the Cap story, which was penciled by George Tuska. The Iron Man story interiors were done by Heck... but Jack got the nod for the cover! 💥💥💥 Another reason I love this cover is because it was inked by the great Wally Wood. Opening premise reads as follows:

"Twenty-one months ago, no one was talking about the dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, of military coups or nuclear buttons in the hands of barely experienced politicians. Everyone outside the monolithic communist nation were hoping upon hope that the democratic reforms being implemented in the world's largest country would work and freedom would soon ring across the USSR.

Inside that country, a struggle of a different kind was being waged on a level beyond the comprehension of the regular working men and women. A war was being waged in the super-human community. A war to determine how they would operate, who they would answer to and what their priorities would be.

It was a war, like all wars, which would have winners and losers, heroic survivors and remembered dead. Finally, the heat has broken and it’s not too miserable outside. I’ve started cycling every Tuesday night from Keeneland with a group of riders from the Bluegrass Cycling Club and am looking forward to getting my workout in this evening. Today has been an unusual day, in that I normally go to physical therapy first thing, but I had a follow up appointment with my Sports Medicine doctor this morning, and everything is looking great. In fact, my doctor expressed that he has never seen anyone come back from such a devastating injury as quickly as I am progressing.

I have to give most of the credit to everyone else. I have had so much support over the last ten months from friends, family members, and long-lost acquaintances to make my good days great and my bad days few and far between. Without great nurses, PAs, and doctors at UK I could not have been set up for such a successful recovery. Without my therapists, initially at Cardinal Hill, and the whole team at Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy I couldn’t have made it this far. There’s still a long way to go and hurdles to cross, but everything is going great. Thanks for the support and prayers. Keep them up please, they’re working!
