me when i wrote a quick toad!peach fic taking place before mario Knows
Toadstool Chatter
Toadiko curtsied, and Mario performed a quick head bob as he lifted his hat off his head.
âLuigi said you would be coming this way, is everything alright?â
He nodded rapidly. Toadette tilted her head.
âDo you need an audience with the Princess? She shouldnât be too busyââ
âNo!â
The two Toads jumped, and an apology spilled out on the heels of the outburst.
âItâsâŠabout her.â
Toadiko and Toadette exchanged looks before Toadette gave a mischievous grin.
âWhat about her?â Toadiko asked.
To the surprise of both Toads, Marioâs face started to get red as he fanned his face.
âIâehmâwhat are the rules for the Princess toâŠto date?â
At this, Toadette gasped.
âWait, donât tell me youââ
âI justâIâve felt this way for a while, andââ
âSheâs betrothed,â Toadiko said, her expression somehow flatter than her tone. Toadette swatted towards her.
Mario blinked. âBeâŠtrothed?â
âSet to marry,â Toadette chirped.
âTo who? Bowser?!â Then he clamped his hands over his mouth as the two frowned. âMi scusi, I was thinking too fast.â
âOh, nonono. To Prince Peasley! Youâve met him, right? Such a dreamy man.â Toadette swooned.
Mario cocked his head to the side a little. ââŠNo?â
âReally? Heâs come to visit at least twice since youâve arrived in our kingdom.â
âHe was away that first time,â Toadiko reminded Toadette. âAnd I remember Master Luigi sent word that Master Mario was sick the second time he visited.â
âOh, rightâŠâ Toadette looked a little upset.
âHeâsââ Marioâs voice hitched. âSorry, Iââ
âNono, itâs okay! Prince Peasleyâs amazing, but look at you!â Toadette grabbed his arm with both hands, and his eyes flitted to how her tail excitedly waved around. âYouâre the hero of our kingdom! You make our princess laugh. I know she would accept your hand if you offered it.â
âButâŠyou said sheâs betrothedâŠâ
Toadette brushed it off with a wave. âThey can call that off! I know sheâs getting cold feetââ
âToadette!â
She flinched away. Toadiko looked flustered on the princessâs behalf.
âSorry, Toadiko. Youâre right.â Toadette looked back to him. âJustâŠdonât count yourself out, Mario, alright?â
Mario looked a little less hesitant, and gave her a thumbs up.
âI wonât.â
Toadette clapped her hands together.
âYay! Toadiko, donât you think theyâre a great match?â
Toadiko stared at Mario before averting her eyes and swallowing.
âI believe Princess ToadstoolâŠmay share your feelings.â
Mario blinked. âMama mia, I thought I was imagining it.â
âI will ask that you understand what this may mean for you before you continue. Our princess isnât just an object of affection.â
âOf course.â Confusion leaked into his voice, but no question followed.
Toadiko looked to Toadette. âMaybe he should talk with Toadsworth.â
At this she fully turned to face Toadiko. âStars above, Ko, youâre trying to set him up to fail! Let them think about courtship first.â
At âcourtship,â Marioâs face started to get red.
Toadiko frowned. âHe should know that our Princess isnât a fling.â
âIt wonât be!â Toadette turned towards him. âRight?â
âR-Right. Have Iââ
âSee! Itâll all be fine.â
âWhat will be fine?â
They all turned to see Princess Toadstool, who looked rather amused. Toadette and Toadiko quickly curtsied, with Mario awkwardly doffing his cap in a bow. The princess smiled.
âOh! Mario, what a pleasant surprise! Was there something you needed?â
âPrincess, IâŠâ He cleared his throat. âYou will be hosting a party soon, correct?â
âYes. I assume you and Luigi have received my invitation?â
âYes, thank you. We will be there.â He opened his mouth again as if to add something else, but shook his head and closed it.
âMario, didnât you have something to say?â Toadette looked a bit coy.
His face turned a mottled red and he found a sudden interest in the castle tiles.
âNo,â he squeezed out. âNot now.â
Toadette gave a disappointed sigh. âAlrightâŠâ
Princess Toadstool looked between Toadette, Toadiko, and Mario with an arched brow.
âIâll let Mario tell me what he wanted on his own time.â At this he visibly relaxed, and she could properly address him. âCould I interest you with some tea while youâre here?â
âOhâehmâsure.â Mario tugged a bit at the neckline of his shirt.
She clasped her hands together. âWonderful. Toadiko, Toadette, do you want to join us?â
A sudden overlapping âyesâ from Toadiko and âno thanksâ from Toadette startled her. An awkward beat followed for a tad too long.
âThank you for your generosity, Princess,â Toadette recovered, âBut we donât want to intrude on your time with Mario.â
Toadiko said nothing as Mario and the princess both started to blush.
âMy time withâToadette! This invitation was for both of you to relax.â
Mario looked away from the trio as Toadiko frowned at Toadette. Toadette did not seem to notice.
âI justâŠwanna get on top of things for the party! Reduce the work for you, my princess. We can take a break later.â
Princess Toadstool seemed to hesitate.
âAre you sure? I donât want you two to overwork yourselves.â
âIâm sure!â Toadette gave a smile. âHave fun! Donât waste Marioâs time! Weâll see you later, Princess!â
Toadette quickly curtsied, yanking Toadiko down with her into a more sloppy one. Princess Toadstool returned the gesture a bit hesitantly. Mario weakly raised his cap at them.
âExcuse us, your Highness. Master Mario.â Toadiko bowed again before Toadette lead them away. It was only when they were presumably out of earshot that Toadette began to speak again.
âWhat was your problem?â

send đ for a random useless headcanon đ„
not mario this time, crazy
giving the toads more fungal characteristics, they can communicate and pass on information through their own version of a mycelium network. functionally great for a species that seems to be plagued with invasion lately but in practice it just means that they are HUGE gossips and you really have to be careful what you say around one
(certain infections can pass through this as well)
#lakimusings#gari answers#mutual chatter#hehe mario#i think itâs more magic based tho since our toads are mobile#i also think that toads are fairly magical but the capacity they have isnât huge#like more than goombas but typically less than the higher ranks of bowserâs army#they tend to specialize in healing magic as well#anyway this headcanon is present in my toad peach au! :^)#peach has a very strong reach in the network but she doesnât use it very much bc it exhausts her#post ttyd she isnât allowed to use it as a precaution as she recovers#and likewise after pit toadiko had that same restriction

Super Royal Assistant! - Chapter 3: Assistant Party
Previous < First > Next
Thereâs nothing quite like putting together a last-minute party, especially when the guest list includes the guy whoâs been making your work life hell.
A03 Wattpad or below!
With the exception of the two surprise visits from the Koopa Kingdom, your job was falling into a steady routine. Now that you were a month in, it was getting a bit easier. One of the oddly relaxing parts of your day was the morning report â Peachâs daily briefing of news and events. While for others it might be a formal event, for you, it was lowkey, in her room with tea and pastries.
You took another sip of your tea â todayâs was a rose hip blend. âWith the launch of REXAâs newest rocket, the construction of the Rainbow Eight space station is underway. We anticipate having the first module operational by the end of the month.â
âI see⊠and the media?â
âPublic opinion is high, but we may need to manage concerns around cost. Kylie has written a very generous article for us in the Koopa Kronicle, but weâre monitoring other news outlets.â
âThatâs good. The research benefits are astronomical⊠pun not intended,â Peach added with a giggle. She took a chocolate croissant from the serving tray. âI canât imagine what itâd be like go to outer space like that. My cousin Daisy has â though to be fair, that wasnât her choiceâŠâ
You nodded, moving on to the next item. âToadsworth asked me to remind you that the Mayor of Toad Town is going to meet with you today. Afraid he didnât tell me what about, just something to do with âDSâ?â
Peachâs poise faltered for a moment, her teacup clattering on the saucer. âOh, nothing to worry about. Iâll take that meeting alone, no need to join me.â
ââŠI see.â You took a quick note on your pad. What the mayor would want with a portable video game system was beyond you.
âAnd the party preparations?â
You stopped mid-scribble. ââŠparty preparations?â
âOh, Toadsworth didnât tell you! Iâm so excited!â Peach clapped her hands. âIâm going to be throwing a party! I thought after everything thatâs been happening, we should take a moment to relax!â
You didnât want to point out that typically holding a party meant more work, not less for castle staff â likely you most of all. âSo⊠are you thinking a typical ball? Or maybe a themed dinner?â
Peach laughed. âOh no, no, no. My parties are a bit different. Iâm sure Toadsworth has already started on the preparations, but weâll need to make sure the invites are sent out and that we have a host. Toadsworth hosted once before, so Iâm sure heâll be able to explain the details better than I can. Oh, I canât wait!â
Meanwhile, all you could do was wonder what kind of party needed a special host?
==============================
âAh yes,â you said, âIâm sorry to hear Prince Florian will be unable to attend, but perhaps at the next party? âŠYes, thank you. âŠYes, I will tell her, good bye.â You crossed off the Flower Prince from the invite list.
âHow goes it?â Toadette asked, sneaking a cupcake off of Toadikoâs tray as she walked past with samples of the party favors for Peach. Your desk was covered in papers and sticky notes and checklists. She nudged a stack of papers back onto the desk as you groaned.
âWell, Prince Florianâs a no, and the Sprixie Princesses are busy. Mayor Pauline said she could come though!â
âAnd the host?â
âThatâs the problem,â you groaned. âEveryoneâs busy. Tumbleâs on vacation. Brighton and Twila are apparently not on speaking terms again. MC Ballyhoo and Big Top have a gig running a game show.â You slumped over your desk when an idea hit. âUnless⊠youâre offering?â
âOh, hell no,â She said, between bites of strawberry cake. âIf I do it, Iâm not doing it alone! Maybe Iâll drag Toad into it with me or something. Besides, canât Toadsworth do it again?â
âHis doctor wants him resting more,â you said in a hushed voice. âI canât ask him to do it⊠though he did reserve the MSS Sea Star for me, so we have a location set at least.â You sighed, looking back at your other list. âFor now, Iâm just working on the invites.â
âIâm sure youâll think of something â or someone.â
âWho knows, maybe the Mushroom Genie would be willingâŠâ Your eyes scanned down the list, grinding to a halt at one name. âOh, no. No, no, no.â
âWhatâs wrong?â
âBe right back!â You bolted through the door to Peachâs office, narrowly missing Toadiko.
As it slammed shut behind you, Toadette sighed. âGuessing he finally saw heâs invited.â
Toadiko shook her head. âI shouldâve warned him⊠and stop stealing the cupcakes!â
==============================
âYou are NOT inviting him!â
Peach quirked her eyebrow. âI beg your pardon?â
âSorry, sorry,â you said, shaking your head. You slid into one of the high-backed velvet chairs across the desk from her. âBut⊠really? Heâs kidnapped you twice since you hired me! Youâre practically asking him to kidnap you again!â
âHave you been talking to Toadsworth? I swear he says the exact same thing at every party.â
âE-every?! Youâve invited him before?â
Peach sighed, steepling her fingers. âOkay listen, all things considered, itâs diplomacy.â
âDiplomacy? With your biggest enemy?â
Peach shrugged. âBowser is perhaps our closest enemy, but biggest? No. There are far greater evils out there. Someday Iâll have to tell you about them, but I donât think we have time today.â She stood with a stern look. âWe have to remind Bowser that we can be a valuable ally when those enemies attack, thus this party is an act of diplomacy. Weâve done plenty of these parties, and Bowser and I have an unwritten truce during these events. Not once has he broken his promise.â
You sighed. âI⊠stillâŠâ
âTrust me, [Y/n]. I know that you and Toadsworth worry about me, and I really appreciate that, but I promise that nothing bad will happen to me. Mario and Luigi will be here too, nothing to worry about!â
âOkayâŠâ You said, feeling like the wind had been sucked out of your sails. âIâd better go back and finish preparations.â
You turned to leave, when you heard Peach mutter, âBesides, this is my time to cut loose and beat him in every party game.â
You failed to hide your laugh. âSo, itâs about setting the record straight?â
âThat too,â she giggled. âAfter all of that with trying to steal the Power Stars, I think I deserve a little revenge.â
âRight⊠wait, thatâs right!â You scrambled to the door. âI know who can host!â
==============================
The day of the party came far too quickly, but somehow you had everything set up. As expected, you were dressed to the nines, upgraded to a full tuxedo to welcome everyone aboard the MSS Sea Star. You crossed the gangway and into the main entrance hall. The sprawling atrium was the beating heart of the ship, built around a fountain and a dazzling chandelier. Bronze elevators ran up and down the various floors. The stone floors were designed to evoke the feeling of a classic cobblestone street, which when coupled with the decorative lamps and plants made the hall feel like a riviera village retreat. âWow, this place is amazing!â Toad said, helping you carry the last bit of materials through the main hall. He handed you a leatherbound notebook filled with the final guest list. âYou sure you donât need any extra help?â
âNah, Iâll be alright, just need to check everyone in and keep things together until the host arrives. Thanks for helping me.â
âLeast I can do after the whole thing at the galleryâŠâ He said with a nervous laugh as you set up behind the hotel desk, designed with a villa façade.
âComrades in arms!â Toadsworth chortled as he saw the two of you. âIâm so glad to see our newest members of the castle family working so well together.â
âToadsworth, youâre supposed to be off today resting.â
âI promise Iâm quite alright,â he said. âJust a little fever and chills and thereâs nowhere more relaxing than a luxury cruise ship.â
âI guess thatâs true,â you murmured. âJust please donât work and focus on recovering. I promise that I have everything under control.â
âIâm sure you do,â Toadsworth said, leaning a little heavier on his cane than usual. âBut if you need anything at allâŠâ
âI know.â
Just then, the Mario Bros arrived. âMario, Luigi, welcome!â You greeted, flipping open your notebook and checking off their names. âIâm so glad you could come.â
âIâd never miss one of the Princessâ parties!â Mario said. He then saw Toadsworth and gave you a wink. âToadsworth, I heard that Chef Kinopio has a new spaghetti at the buffet with extra spicy meatballs! Why donât we go try it?â
âCapital idea, Master Mario! I canât say no to a good buffet!â
As Mario handled the steward to a mandatory rest, Luigi handled the luggage cart, stacked with a pair of old red and green suitcases, and a couple garment bags. âSo, are we the first ones?â
âYou are, though Iâm sure everyone else will be getting here soon. Princess Peach is really excited. I just hope everyone makes it before we cast off, itâd be really embarrassing to leave some-â
âOMG hiiiii!â Out of nowhere, you found yourself pulled out over the desk and into a chokehold of a hug. âAre you the new guy whoâs keepinâ my cuzâ in line?â You broke free, gasping for air. You barely had a moment before your arm felt like it was about to pulled out of its socket by an overly eager handshake. On the other end was a brunette in a dress like a sunbeam, adorned with flowers. âHi, Iâm Daisy!â
âN-nice to meet you, Princess Daisy,â you managed, checking off her name.
Daisy looked around the main hall and shrugged. âMan, I keep telling Peachy to update the dĂ©cor. She keeps saying itâs âclassyâ but that doesnât mean she canât have fun! I put a whole aquarium in my new ship on the lower deck! She should try that out!â
âThere is the indoor kart track on Deck 2,â you offered.
âPfft, my whole ship is a kart track! International standards too!â Daisy set her hand on your shoulder, pulling you into a conspiratorial whisper. âTell ya what, [Y/n], youâre clearly someone who knows whatâs up. You need to get Peach to loosen up a bit.â
âIâll⊠see what I can do?â
âGood, and if she doesnât or she gets even more boring, you can just come work for me!â She cackled. âOkay, donât work to hard and come party with me later, got it? I gotta â hold up! Hey Pauline! Girl, where did you get the mimosas?â
As the princess shot off like a rocket across the hall, Luigi leaned against your desk. âSo, howâd you like Hurricane Daisy?â
âSheâs⊠something,â you said with a grin.
âSheâs a lot, but itâs hard not to smile around her,â Luigi said, thoughtfully smoothing out his moustache.
One by one the guests arrived. Pauline returned to fully check in (even taking a moment to give you an autograph!). Yoshi and Birdo were overjoyed when you presented them with a welcome fruit basket. Waluigi spent a good twenty minutes attempting to get you to join his tennis program where you â yes, you! â could also become a tennis pro in thirty days or your money back. You politely declined just in time for Wario to arrive and demand extra towels and free toiletries in his room. Soon, there was only the King himself left. Just as you were ready to cross his name off and direct the crew to raise the gangplank, a gaggle of Koopa kids ran by, nearly flattening poor Luigi. âWho?! What?!â
âOh⊠he brought the kids,â Luigi muttered.
âKids?! He has kids?!â
Luigi waggled his hand. âAdopted. Itâs a long story, and he doesnât like to talk about it. Says it might bring up bad memories for the kids.â
âOh⊠yeah, that makes sense.â Part of you was surprised, but on the other hand, it would be dumb to think of Bowser as so cartoonishly evil he wouldnât treat his own children well. In fact, now that you thought about it, he also treated his troops well.
âKoopalings, please behave yourself!â Kamek shouted. He groaned as he shuffled forward. He had ditched his usual robes for a gaudy mushroom-print shirt, sunglasses, and a smear of sunscreen over his snout. âHi [Y/n], I apologize in advance for them.â
âNo problem Kamek,â you said, sliding him his room card. âWould you like me to send some tea and refreshments up to your room?â
âThat would be lovely,â he said with a weary smile. âLemmy! No beach balls inside! âŠI could use a break.â You then realized he had a smaller Koopaling clutching his robe. Unlike Bowser, this one had a blue mohawk and looked up at you with wide eyes.
âOh, whoâs this?â
âAh, this is Larry. Larry, say hello to [Y/n].â
The Koopaling waved, then buried his face into Kamekâs robe, muttering, âI shouldâve stayed home with Junior and Uncle BooâŠâ
âJunior?â
âTheir youngest brother,â Kamek explained. âPoor boy has a bad cold and is staying home. King Boo kindly offered to babysit.â He patted Larry on the shell. âWhy donât you go tell your siblings to come back here, okay?â
âOkayâŠâ
As he left, Kamek pulled something from Larryâs hands: a wallet⊠your wallet. âHow in theâŠ?â
Kamek leaned in, âDonât trust the cutesy act. Larry cheats at every game, just wants you to drop your guard.â
âStars aboveâŠâ you cursed, taking your wallet back.
âTheyâre all really good kids, I promise! Larry just wants attention, being one of the youngest. He hasnât quite found that outlet yet.â
The room shook with the force of a new voice. âKoopalings!!â Suddenly, the seven children ran over, trying to look at least a little guilty as Bowser glowered. âBehave,â he growled, before turning to you. âIâll pay for anything they break.âÂ
You looked over the kids, now perfectly in line. âIâm sure they wonât, and besides, Iâm sure theyâre just excited to be on the ship.â The seven seemed to brighten a little at that.
âThey will be on their best behavior, right kids?â Bowser said, getting a chorus of agreement back. âGo with Grandpa Kamek and let Papa take care of checking us in, okay?â
âOkay!â And off they went towards the pool, a little more behaved, with a reluctant Kamek in tow. You scribbled a quick note to send maybe something a little stronger to his room with the tea.
âSo, Peach has you running everything? Are you the only competent one or something?â
You paused in your duties to look up at Bowser. He seemed somewhat sincere. âI wouldnât say that. My duty as her assistant covers many different needs.â
âLike showing me to my room.â
You started to nod. âLike showing you to⊠no.â
âOh, but I think I want you to,â Bowser smirked, plucking his, notably gold, room key from your hand. âIf youâre such a good assistant and all. Iâm sure you want my support; Peach does trust my judgment in assistants. I even recommended she fire her last one because they were bad at customer service.â
Your jaw clenched and through gritted teeth, you managed, âRight this way⊠sirâŠâ
âThatâs more like it!â Bowser snickered, pushing the luggage cart with one hand and carrying another stack of suitcases on his shoulder with the other.
You led him to a special elevator, punching in the code for one of the penthouse suites. Once the doors were shut, you turned on him. âYou better not be planning anything.â
He snorted. âIâm planning on a relaxing time. Eating way too much, swimming in the pool, maybe a massage â you know, normal cruise things.â
âYou donât fool me.â
âWhat? Iâm not allowed to have a little fun?â
âYou?!â You hissed. âYouâre literally an evil king. Isnât kidnapping Peach your idea of fun?â
âGet over yourself. Kidnapping is my job and cementing the glory of the Koopa Kingdom is my lifelong passion, but that doesnât mean I canât enjoy a good party â and everyone knows that Peaches throws the best parties!â
You nearly felt your brain short-circuit. âPeaches?â
Bowser sighed â he sighed! âIsnât she something? Beautiful, smart, talentedâŠâ
âIâm gonna hurl.â
âNo need to be jealous.â
âJealous?!â You cut yourself off as the doors opened to the penthouse. Once you were sure you were still alone with him, you spun back. âI am not jealous!â
âToo much Grade A Koopa Beef here for ya anyway,â Bowser snorted, throwing up a bicep flex for good measure. âJust donât be surprised when one day Peaches falls for me and you end up having to plan our wedding. Better start kissing up to your new king now, eh?â
âStars above, I hope you pay Kamek well for having to put up with you,â you groaned as Bowser dropped the luggage with a thud.
âIâm not hearing any kissing up,â Bowser sneered, reentering the elevator with you. âJunior Royal AssistantâŠâ
You were about to bite back when you realized his voice trailed off awkwardly. âWait, you still donât know my name, do you?â
âItâs⊠uh⊠Koover?â
âNot even close.â An impish grin crawled across your face. âOh dear, what would poor Peaches think knowing that her suitor doesnât even know the name of her assistant, her trusted companion? How could anyone be so heartless and such a bad king? Why, if you didnât know something as basic as that, you must really not have any interest in her at all.â
Smoke began to hiss between Bowserâs teeth. âDonât you dare.â
The elevator dinged and the doors opened again back at the entrance hall, where a new visitor had arrived. âTry me,â you hissed at him. You then turned, putting on your most welcoming smile for the new guest â a being who looked remarkably like a Power Star with a mustache. âHello there, you must be Master Eldstar, thank you for coming to host our party on such short notice.â
The elder Star Spirit chortled. âOh, it is my pleasure. Itâs been some time since I last hosted a party. Thank you for your invitation.â
âNo trouble at all, in fact youâre doing us a big favor.â
âThen I am glad to be of service!â He then took notice of the hulking figure behind you. âAh, Bowser, will be you stirring up trouble again?â
âKeep your âstache on, gramps, Iâm actually here to party. Peach invited me.â
Eldstar looked between the two of you with a curious glance but simply nodded â or at least, bounced in a nodding way, given he was a star. âWell then, I best make my way up to the top deck for the festivities! I hope to see you both later.â
No sooner had Eldstar departed did another person take his place. Kamek huffed as he awkwardly jogged up. âAh, just the man I was looking for!â
âWhat do you want, Kamek?â Bowser asked flatly.
âNot you, your nastiness. I was looking for [Y/n].â
âFor him?!â
You were just as surprised. âIâm not sure what I could do, but Iâd be happy to help.â
âIâm sure youâre perfect for it,â Kamek said with a toothy grin. âCome along.â
==============================
The indoor kart track was nothing terribly special â other than being on a ship of course â but it was enough to keep people entertained. Better yet, it was perfect for some of the partyâs âminigamesâ. The pipe-frame karts were retired models from prior races with only 50cc engines. The track was also based on an old circuit course â âMario Circuit 2â if your memory served. The problem Kamek alluded to was easily apparent from the smoking engine block of an overturned kart.
âHey pops,â one of the Koopalings with a pink bow said. âYou brought help?â
âThat I did Wendy,â Kamek replied, motioning to you, but before he could say more, you were cut off by a loud argument.
âI told you not to ram me when we went over that jump!â
âLARRY CHEAT!â
âSHUT UP!â Wendy roared. She then turned to you. âIâm real sorry, Mister. Larry and Morton get too competitive when it comes to karts. I hope it didnât get too smashed up.â
âWell, letâs just take a look first.â You led the way across the track to the kart as Kamek and Wendy pulled Larry and Morton apart to cool off. âHmm, doesnât look too bad. Shouldnât take long to fix.â You looked around at the other Koopalings, pointing at one with wild blue hair. âWhatâs your name?â
âLudwig, sir,â he said. âDo⊠do you think itâs broken?â
âNot for long, and no need to call me sir. Could you get the toolbox from the pitstop? I think I can handle the repairs.â
âCertainly!â As he dashed off, you looked at the kart, realizing youâd need to flip it over. However, before asking, the jockish one with pink sunglasses heaved it back onto its wheels.
âWow thanks, uhâŠâ
âRoy, dude,â he said. âOh, and those two chuckleheads are Iggy and Lemmy.â The remaining Koopalings giggled but seemed to keep their distance from you. Of all the Koopalings, it was clear that they were brothers, perhaps fraternal twins. Ludwing returned with the toolbox, and you soon got to work.
âSo, you, like, work for the Princess?â Roy asked.
âYeah, still getting used to things,â You said.
He watched as you swapped out your ratchet. âFor an office dude, you sure know your way around tools.â
A chill gripped your stomach. âOh, itâs nothing really! Just pick up things here and there, yâknow?â
âMhmmmâŠâ Roy hummed. It was hard to tell if it was in judgment or â given the distinct smell of a certain herb â something else.
Ludwig seemed like he wanted to ask more, but he stopped short, instead announcing, âDadâs here!â
âShit,â you hissed under your breath as white-hot pain seared across your palm. You jerked your hand back from the sizzling muffler. âGuess we need to let that cool a bit moreâŠâ
âAre you okay?â Wendy asked, taking your hand. Roy and Ludwig carefully rolled the kart out of the way. âOh, thatâs a nasty burnâŠâ
âItâs alright, Iâll just grab the first aid kit and maybe a Tasty Tonic from the bar.â
âHold on, we deal with burns a lot,â Wendy said. âDad! We need your help!â
You winced, not exactly wanting to deal with him right now. Bowser took one look at your hand and, mercifully, held back his comments. âWendy, round up your brothers and give us some space.â He gently opened your hand to get a better look. âSecond-degree, as expected⊠doesnât look too bad. Come on.â He stood up and stared at you. âGet up! You need that under some cold water, and I ainât carrying you.â
âOh! RightâŠâ You followed him to the bathroom. The door slammed shut behind you, echoing in the empty bathroom, and you realized you were now alone with your kingdomâs biggest, or closest according to Peach, enemy. You turned the sink on full blast and dunked your hand under the water stream. âOf all the stupid ways to get a burnâŠâ
âFigured youâd be smart enough not to touch a hot engine.â You bit back a remark as to why you had to touch that engine, but you didnât want to drag his kids into whatever this was. Bowser, however, had no such qualms. âHow much did they break?â
âNot much. Itâs a pretty simple fix, but Iâll ask the mechanics to take another look before anyone else drives it.â You shut off the water and reached for a paper towel, but Bowser snatched your hand. âDo you mind?â
âNot done treating your burn.â He grabbed the first aid kit off the wall and gently dabbed your hand dry before starting to treat it.
âThought you said it wasnât too bad?â
âEh, didnât want the kids to worry. We deal with burns a lot, but they donât realize Koopa skin is a lot tougher than your soft squishy stuff.â
You glared at him as he finished applying ointment and expertly began to wrap your hand. âYou know a lot about burns.â
âI better. I did my dissertation on them.â
You gawked at him. âYour⊠dissertation?â
âYeah, I have an MD. Had to get one after that virus outbreak back in 2019.â Bowser smirked. âWhat? You thought I was some kind of meathead?â
âI mean, you did believe me when I said you needed an appointment to kidnap Peach.â
âHah!â Bowser snorted. âNo oneâs ever pulled that one on me before. I wasnât kidding when I said you had a backbone⊠even if your big mouth likes to get you into trouble.â
âMy big mouth? This coming from you?â You said, trying to be angry, but you couldnât help but let a snicker slip. As he finished the last bit of the wrap, you quietly added, â[Y/n].â
âWhat?â
â[Y/n]. Itâs my name.â
He paused, then nodded. âGot it.â
The silence hung in the air. âHey⊠I know you have an agreement with Peach about things like this. Maybe⊠maybe we can call a truce during parties too.â
âI can get behind that,â he said, lumbering to his feet, âbut only because youâre helping to run this thing. If you compete in the party next time, donât think for a second, Iâm going to hold back!â
âBring it on, Iâm a beast at Trace Race.â Bowser stared at you before spluttering and breaking out in a gut-busting laugh. âWhat? Whatâs so funny?â
âOf course, the pencil pusher would be good at Trace Race!!â
Truce aside, you were considering the merits of challenging Bowser to a good match of Slaparazzi or Squared Away with Mario and Luigi on your team.
==============================
The party was a success. The end of the cruise came so much faster than you expected. Everyone gathered on the top deck under a starry sky. The final contestants stood on stage with Eldstar and with you, as someone with hands had to present the trophy. âWell now that was quite the event, wasnât it everyone?â A cheer greeted him â and a less enthusiastic cheer from the contestants who didnât even place. Bowser grumbled from the corner, giving a grudging slow clap. âNow letâs get to what everyoneâs here for! In fourth place, we have Wario!â
âItâs rigged, I tell you, rigged!â
âThe only thing that was rigged was your trick dice,â Waluigi shouted from the crowd.
âMoving on,â Eldstar interrupted, âin third place is Peach!â There was a loud shout of applause from the crowd, mostly from Mario and Bowser. Your boss stood and gave a polite applause, but you could see her eye twitching. That was mainly due toâŠ
âIn second place, Daisy!â
âHaha! Oh yeah!â Daisy shouted.
Just barely loud enough for you to hear, Peach hissed, âOnly because you kept stealing my stars.â
Daisy snickered. âI canât help it that you didnât pay off Boo.â
âAnd finally, our superstar! In first place, we haveâŠâ The lights dimmed. Suddenly a spotlight snapped on. âLuigi! Congratulations!â
Fireworks filled the night sky as you handed the gold trophy over to Luigi. âAw shucks,â he said.
Everyone cheered as the winners stepped off the stage. You followed Luigi off as Peach and Eldstar made a few final comments and words of thanks to the group. âI still canât believe you won by basically âturtlingâ the entire game!â
âEvery now and then I get lucky,â Luigi shrugged, but his cheeks were tinged red âNot like winning party games means a whole lot. Itâs not like winning a contest to get a free mansion or something.â
âWell, when you do get rich and famous and get a mansion, please remember the little guys like me,â you laughed.
âLittle guys like us stick together,â he said. âHow about we celebrate with some ice cream? My treat.â
âThanks, but Iâm still on the clock. Also, you do win something.â You fished out a small voucher from your pocket. âPeach wanted to up the stakes a bit. You get a weeklong trip to Diamond City.â
âWahoo!â Luigi graciously accepted the ticket. âIâm no good at gambling, but I hear the pizzaâs out of this world!â
âYou could also take someone with you,â you grinned, nodding towards a certain princess.
âLuigi!â Daisy shouted from the bar. âCâmon, we gotta celebrate!â
Luigi stared for a moment, before turning red and whispering, âMamma miaâŠâ
==============================
As the party died down, you snuck away to the stern. You undid your bowtie and leaned against the railing. The sea swirled below you as the ship steamed home.
âAh, finally a chance to rest?â Eldstar floated down beside you.
âFeel like the past few days have been nonstop,â you said, rubbing your eyes. âNot to mention keeping the positive social mask up the whole time; a guy needs to recharge after a while.â
âI can certainly understand that,â Eldstar chortled. âWe Star Spirits arenât the most social bunch either. I hope you donât mind the company?â
âNot at all,â you said.
âYou seem to be adjusting well to being an assistant to Peach. Isnât it funny how life takes us in strange directions?â
You laughed, trying to hide the exhaustion out of your voice. âItâs not where I expected my life going, even after all that work in college.â
âI wasnât just referring to your work in college,â Eldstar said, a knowing glint in his eye. He must have caught your surprise, as he added, âThe Star Spirits see all desires of the heart. No need to worry, we wonât be telling anyone before youâre ready.â
You took a shaky breath. âYeah, I guess you had something to do with that wish when I applied.â
âBoth of them actually: to get a job and to hide some details of your past,â Eldstar mused.
âProbably not the most exciting wishes youâve ever gotten.â
âI recall some of your wishes over the years; one in particular comes to mind.â
You blushed. âWell, Iâm not sure if that one can really be grantedâŠâ
Eldstar floated next to you on the balcony. âDonât worry, my friend. If you make a wish to the stars with all your heart, we will hear it.â He began to float away towards Shooting Star Summit, but he stopped. âSomeday, I hope you will come visit us. The Star Road is always open to you. I imagine you would find Star Haven quite enjoyable, or perhaps you might enjoy the Dream Depot more?â
âIâm sure I would,â you said. Star Haven was supposed to be absolutely magical; it was the place where the wishes of the world gathered, after all. The Dream Depot however sounded like it involved a lot of reading. âSomeday, I hope I will.â
The Star Spirit nodded before shooting skyward. You watched the trail of sparkling energy disappear in the night sky, wondering what you would wish for now â aside from a soft, warm bed. You stood and stretched, hoping to get to your room for a power nap before the Sea Star docked. You turned back from the balcony and headed inside.
If you had stayed a moment longer, perhaps you wouldnât have missed an ominous swordlike shape in the night sky.
==============================
A/N: Dr. Mario World was a weird game. The implications were just⊠wow. Not to mention that timing.
Just as a heads up, next week will not have an update, but weâll be back to normal on the following week. Iâm afraid I had a bit of a chronic illness flare up and need a little more time to rest than usual.

The Princess Shroob Usurper Theory
Note as of 11-12-2023: The idea of this post is somewhat based on and inspired by this old GameFAQs thread I read many years ago. I had forgotten where exactly I had read this and thought it was old YouTube comments or some other place, but found the thread again today. So credit to wiiking96 for the inspiration.
The Shroobs are an alien race from the Mario series and the main antagonists in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. Due to their planet dying out, they sought a new home and invaded the Mushroom Kingdom in the time when Mario was still a baby. The rulers of this species are two characters with the same name, the two Princesses Shroob. They are sisters, though the existence of the elder sister is kept a secret for most of the game. The elder Princess Shroob acts as the secret final boss of Partners in Time and her existence is foreshadowed at various moments throughout the game. The relation between the two Princesses Shroob from the perspective of the younger sister is not explored a lot in the game however, likely in part to keep the twist intact. However, as this theory will argue, the younger Princess Shroob and her people might also have motivations to not acknowledge the existence of her sister for most of the game.
Pieces of the Cobalt Star
One of the first places the Shroobs attacked when they arrived on earth was the Mushroom Castle. Around the same time as this, a time machine from the future with Princess Peach, Toadiko and Toadbert arrived in the castle. According to Peach just before the true final boss, immediately upon exiting the time machine, the trio was greeted by the two Princesses Shroob. The elder princess attacked, but Peach grabbed the Cobalt Star powering the time machine. She trapped the elder princess inside the star, upon which it shattered in six pieces. Peach was then captured by the younger princess Shroob and taken away, while Toadiko was brought to Toadwood Forest by the Shroobs and Toadbert was swallowed by Yoob at some point.
The main quest of Partners in Time involves retrieving the pieces of the Cobalt Star, as they were scattered to various places at some point after the Shrboosâ initial take-over of the Mushroom Castle and Toad Town. The locations we find some of these pieces in offer the first leg of the theory. But first, a rundown of where the pieces are found and how they likely ended up there:
Inside a treasure chest in Bowserâs Castle. The piece was likely brought here by Baby Bowserâs minions, as Baby Bowser identifies it as his treasure after the fight with Swiggler. They may have grabbed the piece from the Mushroom Castle, as he was in it around the same time when Peach, Toadbert and Toadiko arrived from the future.
Held by Swiggler in the Shroobsâ Vim Factory. The piece was likely put there by the Shroobs, as Swiggler is important for their infrastructure, since it creates the fuel for their UFOs.
Held by Petey Piranha, who lurks in the Gritzy Caves. Given that Petey Piranha was likely engineered by the Shroobs and they feed Peach to it at one point, it is likely the Shroobs put the Cobalt Star shard in Petey as well.
Sealed in a glass sphere in the Star Shrine. It is unclear how a part got to this location, given the Shroob presence in the area is low and none of the other characters in the Mushroom Castle at the time are known to have gone to the Star Shrine prior to the Mario Brothers collecting the piece.
Held by Toadbert, who likely grabbed a piece when the Cobalt Star first shattered.
Held by Princess Peach, who likely grabbed a piece when the Cobalt Star first shattered.
On the whole, it thus seems the Cobalt Star pieces were taken and moved by those who were in the Mushroom Castle at the time. Peach and Toadbert likely took their pieces to stop the elder Princess Shroob from being reformed and Baby Bowser took his piece because he thought it was a shiny treasure. But why would the Shroobs take two pieces and keep them knowingly apart from each other? Would they not want to free their monarch and so keep the pieces together? Of note is also that Peach was captured by the Shroobs and she is kept apart from the other pieces as well for the most part (except for the time she spent in Petey Piranhaâs belly). It does give the impression that they are trying to keep the pieces apart deliberately, but as to why this might be the case, further evidence needs to be examined.
The attitude of the younger Princess Shroob
For most of Partners in Time, the younger Princess Shroob is thought to be the leader of the Shroobs. This is to keep the existence of the elder Princess Shroob a secret from the player, but the actions and words of the younger Princess Shroob seem to show she also considers herself the singular leader of her people. As mentioned before, she does not acknowledge the existence of her sister for most of the game. Instead of seeking her sisterâs liberation also, she organizes a grand ceremony at the Koopaseum where Peach is fed to Petey Piranha. This seems to be an execution ceremony celebrating the Shroobsâ successful conquest of the Mushroom Kingdom, where the old kingdom is symbolically killed off.
Mario, Luigi and their baby selves go on to defeat Petey Piranha not long after this, but do not find Peach inside his belly. Instead, she was spat out and was later moved to Shroob Castle. The younger Princess Shroob also impersonates Peach. She is found by the four Mario Brothers and brought to the present, though later kidnapped again by Bowser and brought to the past. Kylie Koopa speculates that this was deliberate after this is found out aboard the Shroob Mother Ship:
âYou took that dame through a time hole to the future Mushroom Kingdom? Are you saying you think that was Princess Shroobâs plan all along? Talk about a twist! Yeah, she sets herself up as Princess Peach and infiltrates Peachâs Castle in the future⊠What sheâs really after⊠is the chance to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom of your time, too! The gall of this gal!â
So her celebration of the successful conquest of the Mushroom Kingdom in the past leads directly into a plan to start conquering the Mushroom Kingdom of the present. The younger Princess Shroob is power hungry and has her sights set on even more conquest, instead of freeing or even acknowledging her sister. A quote from the princess herself just before she is fought sums the attitude up quite well: âThis kingdom is mine!â Contrast this to how the elder Princess Shroob describes her goals for conquest after her defeat:
âOne day, the Shroobs will dance on the buried remains of this pathetic kingdomâŠâ. She seems to see it as more of a shared goal, while her younger sister sees it as her own ambition as the sole ruler of the Shroobs.
This attitude can also be seen in the design of the Shroob Castle. It is only after the elder Princess Shroob being sealed away, that the Mushroom Castle was converted into Shroob Castle. On the ground floor of the castle, a large statue of the younger Princess Shroob is present. However, this statue pales in comparison to the identical but gigantic statue of the younger princess that stands atop the castle. And inside, on one of its highest floors, we find a room with a single throne. Not two. The castle is clearly solely designed for the younger Princess Shroob, with no design hints of the elder Princess Shroob anywhere.
A related aspect is the UFO that the younger Princess Shroob uses as her vehicle at various points through the game: The Shroob Mother Ship. It is the largest and most dangerous Shroob UFO that the Shroobs seem to have in their arsenal, but it is not the only unique and large UFO in the game. A second one is found on the second floor of Shroob Castle and it bears several design similarities to the Shroob Mother Ship, but is noticeably smaller and is never used by the Shroobs. It is just laying around in the castle, allowing the Mario Brothers to take out several smaller Shroob UFOs. The intended occupant seems to be missing or not using this UFO. Perhaps this then is the UFO actually belonging to the younger Princess Shroob, while the Mother Ship she pilots actually belongs to her elder sister, given the elder princess is presumably considered of higher authority than the younger one. This would explain the existence of the smaller, unique Shroob UFO which is nonetheless still similar in design to the Mother Ship.
The idea that the younger Princess Shroob usurped the place of her elder sister as the supreme leader of their people and deliberately ignored her existence seems fairly likely from these pieces of evidence. A final relevant aspect is that the younger Princess Shroob is demonstrably aware of how to free her elder sister. After she is defeated is the only time she acknowledges the existence of the elder princess in the game: âNow itâs your turn, sis...ter!!!â Not long after this, Baby Bowser takes the final piece of the Cobalt Star from Princess Peach and the elder Princess Shroob is revived. The younger Princess Shroob thus knows how her sister can be freed and on top of that, knows it is imminent. As a last-ditch effort to crush the Mario Brothers, she gives her sister a chance to do so. The only time the younger princess acknowledges the elder one, is when she is on the verge of ultimate defeat and needs her sister to do the heavy lifting.
The role of the Shroob people
But if the younger Princess Shroob orchestrated a plot to keep her sister sealed, what is the role of the Shroobs as a whole in this? First of all, are they aware of the elder princessâs sealing? A crowd of Shroobs is shown to have been present when it happened in a flashback that happens when speaking to Toadiko. While the elder Princess Shroob is not shown in the flashback, she is seemingly indirectly mentioned by Peach in the Japanese version of the game. She specifically says: âăăȘăăăĄăŻäœè
ă§ăăăŁ!?â (DeepL translation: âWho are you people?â). Of note is the use of âăăȘăăăĄâ, a second-person pronoun. While she could be addressing the crowd, she only says it after Princess Shroob enters the frame. It might be that the elder princess is lurking just off-screen in this flashback. Either way, the Shroobs would be aware.
They also clearly go along with the plot. Shroobs actively guard one of the pieces within the Vim Factory. Furthermore, on two occasions when the Mario Brothers are about to learn the existence of the elder Princess Shroob, the Shroobs intervene so they donât. The first is in Toadwood Forest when Toadiko explains what happened after she, Toadbert and Princess Peach first arrived in the past. When she is about to discuss the Cobalt Star, Shroob UFOs appear and turn her into a purple Mushroom. Later, in the Star Shrine, Toadbert reveals on a dirty sketch he gave Mario earlier a drawing of a second Princess Shroob. When he is about to explain what the second Princess Shroob is, the Elder Shrooboid intervenes and similarly turns Toadbert into a purple Mushroom. A third instance of this happens at Shroob Castle when Princess Peach is about to mention the elder princess, but she is interrupted by an attack from the Shroob Mother Ship. This is more likely a coincidence however, given there is no way the Shroobs or Princess Shroob were in earshot of Peach at the time. The first two instances do give the impression that the Shroobs do not want the Mario Brothers to learn about the elder Princess Shroob however. But why is that?
When the elder Princess Shroob is fought at the end of the game, there is a certain pattern in her attacks. In the first phase of the fight, a Shroob UFO may occasionally bring her a drink to heal. Her reaction is to immediately knock the UFO away. In the second phase of the battle, one of her common attacks involves her shooting an energy ball at some UFOs, which make them malfunction and fall on the Mario Brothers. At times, she may combine this with summoning a time hole and sending her subjects forward in time. This gives the impression of a ruler, who despite not being as despotic as her younger sister in her motives, is crueler to her people. She abuses them and is not above using them as weapons against her enemies. The younger Princess Shroob never displays such behavior during the game and in several instances is similarly brought a drink by one of her subjects. In such cases, she does not kick them away and simply stands by. Given this, the Shroobs might cooperate with the plot because the younger princess treats them with more respect than her elder sister and does not abuse them.
Conclusion
The idea is thus clear: in Partners in Time, there is a story about internal Shroob politics happening in the background. Upon the sealing of the elder Princess Shroob, the younger princess Shroob and the Shroobs as a whole decided to keep her sealed. The younger princess did it because she was power-hungry and the Shroob people did it because the elder princess was a physically abusive ruler. The younger Princess Shroob acts like she is the only ruler of the Shroobs, while the pieces of the Cobalt Star are intentionally kept apart and anyone who speaks of the elder Princess Shroob is silenced. The elder princess Shroob seems none the wiser in the end however, as she describes her sister as follows: âAnd my sister⊠My dear, sweet, beautiful sister⊠I will avenge her!â The elder princessâs goal throughout the game is focused solely on freeing herself and she does not seem to be aware of the potential plot concocted by her sister and people.

Can someone suggest a name for a toadette ? I'm trying to make an OC.
Because I've seen in Mario and Luigi : PiT, that there were two toads with Peach. A toadette named Toadiko and a blue Toad named Toadbert, so I got inspired by that but I cannot find an appropriate name for my OC.
I thought about Toadlin/Toadlyn/Toadelyn/Toadelin. But it doesn't really sound nice...Any suggestions ?

WIP - The Second Shroob Invasion Cover Art

Iâm happy to put this out - I might shade stuff in later. But here is the main cover art for âThe Second Shroob Invasionâ on Archive Of Our Own (CatWafers). I took inspiration from the original Partners in Time poster with everyone on Earth clustered together in fear as the Shroobs descend from above.
There are a ton of OCs on the page, and the poster didnât cover every character that shows up, but these are the crucial characters.
(Left to Right)
Queen Samosha of the Sunnycide Planet - leader of an oppressed planet
Ivy (RuG79v) - artist and friend to Veenie (RuV33n)
Midbus [Main Character] - pig living in the sewers who dealt with horrible roommates, tolerates no bullshit but gets little to no recognition
Veenie (RuV33n) [Main Character] - Stranded Shroob, first to fall during the Battle in Shell Town, always anxious, set in their ways, but always questioning and has a strong sense of morality
Fawful [Main Character] - Beanish teenager, runaway fugitive from the Beanbean Kingdom, always has evil on his mind, badge salesman, the Regent has big plans for him
Toadmida - Daughter of Toadiko, anxious Mayor of HolliJolli Village, avid reader of Toaderez, reads medical textbooks like theyâre childrenâs books, always curious
First Class Private Tortuga - A Koopa Private who tolerates no bullshit, she suspects something is up with Veenie and Fawful (seeing that theyâre a Shroob while the other is a criminal), respects Captain Goomba and his squad, resilient, tries to better understand the Shroobs, has a messy family
Captain Goomba and co. - Captain Goomba is very headstrong while Shy Guy has a brain cell. Captain Koopa loves rhyming while Captain Boo watches on, lovingly. Meanwhile, Captain Goomba has regrets about people he couldnât help and holds himself up to high expectations
Head Scientist Shroogagen - The Shroob that acts as both a scientist and the Regentâs doctor. Gagen loves to experiment and loves his work a little too much. He is the only person who can give the Regent crap and survive. Meanwhile, the Regent tells Gagen what to research. He was there for the Regent when nobody else was, a little bit of a whimp and his life might change
?????? - A project for the Regent, related to one of the main characters
Center:
Regent Shrooben - Ever since the Shroob Princesses died in the first Shroob Invasion (Partner in Time), Regent Shrooben has been leading the Shroobs. Messages between Planet Shroob and Earth take 30 years to transmit. When the Regent finds out what happened to his Princesses, he draws his invasion plans. He has an eye on Fawful and VeenieâŠ
