Większość wakacji już za nami, sezon letni dobiega końca, co oznacza, że pora na dożynki! Tradycyjnie Dożynki Gminy Kłykcie odbywają się na przemian w Kłykciach Lewych i Prawych, jednak ze względu na “niekorzystną sytuację pogodową” w Kłykciach Prawych, do odwołania będą się one odbywać po naszej stronie drogi.

Tegoroczne obchody będą miały miejsce trzydziestego pierwszego sierpnia br. na dużym parkingu. W programie między innymi:

Wystawa artystyczna Koła Nowoczesnych Mieszkanek Małych Miejscowości, tegoroczny motyw przewodni: “Magiczne kozy i jadalne powozy”

Pomoc w przygotowaniu imprezy jest mile widziana, wszystkich chętnych do współpracy przy konstrukcji i zapewnieniu zaopatrzenia, rada wsi zaprasza już od piątku rano na duży parking. Z całą resztą widzimy się zaś w sobotę, na dożynkach!

Green Week also called zielone świątki (Polish), Rusalii (Romanian), зелені свята (Ukrainian), русалска седмица (Bulgarian), rusalné svátky (Czech), or зелёные cвятки (Russian), is an annual fertility festival that occurs between the Christian holidays of Easter and Pentecost, and is sometimes connected with Pentecost directly. ❈ While customs will vary based upon regional culture, the holiday centers around encouraging the blooming of crops and honoring the dead. One of the key themes found in multiple cultures is the presence of Rusalki. In some beliefs, such as those of Romanians, they need to be chased away and the Calusari engage in a dance believed to help protect human souls; in other beliefs, such as those of the Russians, the Rusalki emerge and need to be left offerings, as they will assist in the growing of agricultural goods or at the very least stop their interference. ❈ During this holiday it is also common to use trees, most commonly birch trees, as means for honoring the dead, as it was believed that they contained the souls of those who had passed. On the Thursday of Green Week, called Semik, rituals to assist or honor the unclean dead would take place. Birch trees would also be petitioned by women in fertility rites and vows, and, in some cases, a chosen birch tree would be "drowned", similar to the drowning of an effigy of Marzanna or Morana to usher in spring during Topienie Marzanny.

I’m mostly upset about my Slavic gods and life blog because it was gaining popularity and now it’s gone. I have to start it from scratch.

Noc Świętojańska - Jest obchodzona w nocy z 23 na 24 czerwca, w tym roku wypada z niedzieli na poniedziałek. Z tej okazji nie tylko w miastach, ale także na wsiach będą organizowane liczne imprezy – umożliwiające świętowanie przejścia w letni tryb życia.

Topienie Marzanny - Pierwszego dnia wiosny w Polsce istnieje stara tradycja, a mianowicie topienie Marzanny. Marzanna lub Morana była słowiańską boginią przedstawianą jako postać reprezentująca śmierć, zimę i chorobę. Figurka jest pleciona ze słomy w kształt człowieka i ubierana w tradycyjne lokalne stroje kobiece. Tradycja zaczyna się od spalenia słomianej lalki i utopienia jej w rzece. Topienie lalki miało na celu przywołanie wiosny poprzez odpłynięcie zimy w rzece. Początki tradycji sięgają czasów przedchrześcijańskich, kiedy odbywały się obrzędy ofiarne pogan.

Today I'm thinking about generalisation of mythology of the people who are now living in the places we call Russia. Or more like. You know like we still calling polish, russian, ukrainian people - slavics? And saying like, yeah, all slavics has the same gods and myths and stuff?

But even if we talking about small territory around my city, in olde days we had like mokshas, erzyas and vepsians? Which all are finn-ugric people.

It's weird. Yeah, we have crossing holidays. Polish have Topienie Marzanny, we have Maslenitsa. But like. Cultures are not interchangable

Dobra kurwa moment bo

Czemu nigdzie nie mogę znaleźć opisanego fenomenu personifikacji pór roku w jakby. kulturze dziecięcej ig? Albo tworzonej dla dzieci? Chodzi mi o Panią Wiosnę/Lato/Jesień/Zimę, topienie Marzanny trochę też pod to w sumie podchodzi zwłaszcza patrząc na moje wspomnienia z przedszkola... No i Królowa Śniegu w sumie też.

Chodzi o to że ostatnio zacząłem się bawić tym konceptem wymyślając postać, a teraz jak chciałem poszukać czy np. jest o tym artykuł na Wikipedii albo coś w tym stylu, to okazuje się, że nie ma, jak wyszukuję "personifikacja pór roku" to mi wychodzą tylko jakieś rzeźby ogrodowe z Wrocławia XD Czy ktoś w ogóle to zbadał??? Czy to jest obecne w innych kulturach? Poza jakimiś oczywiście bóstwami greckimi i tym podobnymi, bo na pewno były jakieś osobne bóstwa każdej pory roku, chodzi mi bardziej o ten właśnie taki baśniowo-dziecięco-współczesny wymiar.

Despite the strong Catholic character of modern Poland, some pagan traditions have endured still today. One of the most bizarre and interesting is the spring equinox celebration known as Topienie Marzanny, literally the Drowning of Marzanna. Marzanna is the Polish incarnation of the old Slavic pagan goddess of winter, as well as plague and death, associated with seasonal rites based on the idea…

Marzanna (in Polish), is a Baltic and Slavic goddess associated with seasonal rites based on the idea of winter's death and rebirth and dreams. The rite involves preparing an effigy in female clothing, and either setting it on fire or drowning in a river (or both). This is often performed during a field trip by children in kindergarten and primary schools. The effigy, often made by the children themselves, can range in size from a puppet to a life-size dummy. This ritual represents the end of the dark days of winter, the victory over death, and the welcoming of the spring rebirth. 

Since the project was due the 20th of March and spring starts the next day it reminded me of one of my favourite traditions of Poland. Drowning of the Marzanna - which was explained up ahead what it looks like.

I wanted to recreate the sound landscape of the happening with slightly chilly notes in it to disturb the listener of the audio and making it hard for them to focus on the major voice explaining the rite.

What is happening in the audio?

Audio starts off with a sound of a field, wind, river and many feet walking past grass along with a chatter of children. The listener feels like a part of the trip going to the river while the whole scenery gets disturbed by distant, not recognizable whisper/voice. Then another voice rises from the chatter of children speaking in Polish which is used as an anchor on which listener can focus on among all the chaos. However, it ends the talking of children with harsh, loud word finishing it’s monologue.

Then the doll of Marzanna is lit on fire and the familiar, english voice starts to explain the whole idea behind the ritual. Godess’ doll is being dropped into the water and then another chaos and sound disturbance happens as if the Marzanna herself protests to be killed. Everything however is silenced with final last word and listener is left alone, in silence with only field noises and river flowing.

I recorded myself speaking both in Polsih and English repeating different names for Marzanna in not only Polish but also Russian, Czech, Slovakian, Ukrainian, Lithuanian and few other Slavic countries. I also tried to record walking on the grass, lighting the lighter and dropping something into the water to get a splash. I also used samples from the internet for field/wind noises and river flowing because it is really hard to record such audio in Toronto. That’s one obstacle I had to deal with, since Poland is full of nature and lots of fields with tranquil audio landscape. Toronto is a huge metropolis of concrete, cars and little nature whatsoever.

Editing it in the Reaper was fairly easy and enjoyable for me. If I had time I would work more on better sound of disturbing noises and voices so they feel even more deformed and creepy.
