#Tragic Backstories
britcision · 2 years
Text
By the way this has been annoying me again so I need all the edgelords to listen for a moment
When you break a bone, it grows back stronger FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS. WHILE IT IS ACTIVELY HEALING. Then it’s just the same as all the rest. The bone is not actually stronger going forward
Repeatedly breaking bones will not give your character a stronger or break resistant skeleton, you are much more likely to end up with weaker, brittle bones from repeated breaks
To say nothing of the need to carefully splint and set the bone to make sure it actually heals properly in the first place
Tragic backstories are fine but please at least double check your biology

《Naruto, Lucy & Sanji》
I used to think that my favourite character would always be the main character of an anime. But it turns out I actually just like the one who has a tragic past and then goes through even more shit yet still is the kindest soul to ever exist.
It wasn't until I watched one piece and realised I love Sanji more than Luffy along with a denial phase that I made the connection.
I've cried over and over again for these three and they were the only ones I desperately wanted to give a hug. They just hold the same space in my heart.
I don't know why I'm typing all of this out hahahaha I should have just posted the image. Anyways I'll probably be drawing more of these three together. After all, they are my top 3.
Also, I went through alot of work to get their ages before drawing and lucy is around 20 in 100 year quest so thats a relief.

Unleashing Cavill's Marvel Might: 5 Epic Roles Awaiting Henry In The MCU!
Tumblr media
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has a penchant for casting exceptional talent and Henry Cavill, best known for his portrayal of Superman in the DC Extended Universe, could be an intriguing addition. Known for his strong performances and physical prowess, Cavill would be a perfect fit for many characters yet to make their debut in the MCU. Let's explore five potential roles that could suit him.
 Hyperion
Tumblr media
Hyperion is essentially Marvel's answer to Superman. A member of the Squadron Supreme, he's an extraterrestrial possessing superhuman strength, speed, stamina, and flight capabilities. Cavill, with his already established superhero persona and physical stature, would be an ideal choice for this character. Given his experience playing a similar role, Cavill could bring depth and nuance to the character of Hyperion.
 Nova (Richard Rider)
Tumblr media
Nova, specifically Richard Rider's version, is a powerful character yet to debut in the MCU. As the human chosen by Rhomann Dey, the last surviving Nova Corps Centurion, Richard Rider gains superhuman abilities and becomes a member of the intergalactic police force, Nova Corps. Henry Cavill, with his experience as a galactic protector, could portray this character with the necessary gravitas and commitment.
Beta Ray Bill
Tumblr media
Beta Ray Bill, an alien worthy of wielding Thor's hammer Mjolnir, is a beloved character by many Marvel fans. With his unique alien appearance and heroic qualities, Beta Ray Bill's character could be a challenge to bring to life. However, Cavill's established superhero credentials and his ability to embody complex characters could make him a fitting choice.
Blue Marvel
Tumblr media
Adam Bernard Brashear, also known as Blue Marvel, is one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe. As a former U.S. Marine and a veteran of the Korean War, he gained his powers through exposure to anti-matter radiation. Known for his strength, flight, and energy manipulation abilities, Blue Marvel is a compelling character that has yet to appear in the MCU. Cavill, with his proven track record of portraying strong, complex characters, could bring depth and intrigue to this role.
 The Sentry
Tumblr media
The Sentry (Robert Reynolds) is a character with immense power and a complex, troubled psyche. He possesses the 'power of a million exploding suns', granting him abilities such as super strength, speed, invulnerability, and flight. Cavill's acting range and his experience with characters struggling with their powers (like Superman) could make him an excellent choice for this role.

Ahh, moon 🌙 for the October themed asks, please 💗
🌙 moon: do any of your OCs have dark backstories or secrets they’re trying to keep?
You know me well enough to know that they do... and I don't know whether to love you or hate you for this ask Rofl.
*Clears throat*
ANYWAYS; Fey Touched TRILOGY Spoilers beneath the cut, and maybe some Stolen Stories Series Spoilers too. Depends how long this post gets <3
Fey Touched
Lizzy and Booker actually don't have any dark backstories, or secrets. At least none that the reader doesn't know about right from the start. They, for obvious reasons, don't tell the vampires that they travelled to the mortal realm illegally, right from the get go.
Andric has a secret, but it's not so much a secret, as something he doesn't want to talk about, or acknowledge. While it's mentioned a couple of times throughout the first book that he's grieving his brother, Isaak, Andric's brother isn't actually dead. As far as vampire society goes, he's worse than dead. He's turned rabid.
Mia Harris doesn't have a dark backstory, per se, but a tragic one. Her older brother became a Kavian, and so her parents have put a lot of pressure on her to be perfect to try and remove that smear upon their family name. Both her mum and dad are members of the European Vampire Council, and having one Kavian in the family tree is bad enough, so Mia is pushed to be perfect to compensate. The perfect student. The perfect over-achiever. Skilled, and talented, and intelligent enough to step into her own job at the council the moment she graduates.
Cara has a bit of a dark backstory, and a secret. From Lizzy and Booker, specifically. Both her parents are dead. They chose to consume human blood, accepting the risk of turning rabid, in exchange for enhanced strength, speed, healing, ect. She'd treated as an outcast amongst the Speculo students because of this, so she tries to keep it from Lizzy and Booker for as long as possible. What she's never told anyone is that her parents were dosing her with human blood too, and although it was without her knowledge, she narrowly escaped their fate.
Stolen
I won't go into too many of the Stolen Characters, but Reilly has a lot of good and bad in his past. One particular mistake will come back to haunt him in book three, when an ex-partner who manipulated him, almost to the destruction of the guild, comes back into his life.
And may, or may not, lead to Stella's life being put on the line ;-)

Ice king is a really good character because they intoduce him and you're like "haha what a freak what's wrong with him" and then the show goes "oh! You want to know? Let me show you :)" and you end up just sitting there like

I just love it when fanfics include my personal brand of trauma as one of my fav characters' backstory and it both mends and further destroys my fucked-up self 🖤
0 notes
Heard this from somewhere else but it's really been effective to my writing recently and just want to share.
The reason a lot of tragic backstories fail is because there is no contrast. Just like there's no sadness without joy, there is no tragedy without hope.
It needs to be clear that happiness was possible in the circumstances they were in, but it was just ripped away from them or kept from them by something out of their control.
For instance, have someone start to get opportunities, have a period of pure goodness and joy, and then something comes back to bite them. An abuser's return. A death of a loved one. Anything.
Remember that if you are writing a character with trauma, you need to know that the trauma after an incident or environment is linked heavily with their thinking patterns that were engraved in them from the trauma.
Example: "I was doing great and then this happened, the universe is rooting against my joy. There's no point in trying to be happy when no one wants me to be."
This thought pattern can be caused by verbal abuse, a relationship that has little to no communication that's planting seeds in their head, being cut off from loving people, or clinical anxiety that leads to catastrophising, just to name a few. Many situations can lead to the same thought patterns.
A contrast to that specific thought pattern would be the people in their life that do want them to be happy and actively encourage their joy, or "signs from the universe" that are encouraging their happiness that the person just isn't paying attention to. The thought pattern and trauma is what overshadows the joy and sends them spiraling.
This also pays off in a recovery arc. They finally start recovering and when something bad happens, the thought pattern resurfaces but they choose to focus on the people in their life that bring them joy and want that joy to last.
This shows progress, this shows the effect of their trauma, this shows that joy was possible. This is why it's tragic. There was a solution, but they just couldn't have known that.
(just make sure you stay out of victim-blaming territory, the solution wasn't easy or a no brainer, it was physically and mentally out of their grasp and it's something they discover throughout a difficult arc)

dead boy detectives was very fun but they sure are not sixteen. on no planet are any of them sixteen. the show was so completely uninterested in them being sixteen too. yeah these two girls are sixteen, yeah they live alone, and rent their own apartments, and never go to school why would they? funniest thing by far.

A detail I don't see mentioned about the confrontation between Blitzø and Stolas is that while Blitzø is understandably angry and lashing out, he also ends his rant with an invitation to Stolas, imploring, no, demanding he meet him at his level, to get as angry as he is, to FIGHT HIM, right then and there.
We've seen frequently that imps are violent in general, they're originally native to Wrath, and we see that most of their bonding rituals often involve violence and/or bodily harm (just look at how much Millie and Sallie May messed each other up at the end and while being able to laugh about it; a broken bottle fight and broken bones is their version of a light-hearted pillow fight)
While Blitzø is also very self-destructive, even by Hell's standards, it should be noted that he's technically begging for Stolas to connect with him in this moment, to speak a language he understands. "At least respect me enough to fight me! If you care, why walk away? Get real with me, if we can't get physical with our genitals, then at least let us get physical with our fists!"
Unfortunately, Stolas has had the exact opposite cultural upbringing, having been taught his whole life that emotional outbursts are unseemly and improper, so his main go-to for conflicts is avoidance. He avoided confrontation with his father, he basically avoided Stella as much as he could even when she was openly shitting on him at parties; and ONLY just recently has he managed to stand up for himself and when he finally does, it's not to strike back, but simply stand his ground for once, emboldened his new-found love for Blitzø and the knowledge that his daughter isn't fooled by the act anymore and will soon be of age anyway.
It is not currently in Stolas' nature to be confrontational the way Blitzø desperately needs him to be.
Blitzø says: "Please, if you ever actually cared, you'd fight for us Get mad, show me that you care!"
What Stolas hears is just the most literal interpretation with zero subtext, because he isn't attuned to the subtleties of arguing and especially not what it looks like for imps, i.e. he focuses on the "I always hated you" interpretation.
Both gave the other an opening, but only heard dismissal, because it wasn't spoken in a language they were familiar with.
I'm not saying either handled things well here, Blitzø shouldn't immediately respond with anger and Stolas shouldn't default to walking away, that's my whole point.
I just thought it was an interesting angle that their differences aren't just societal (privilege/wealth/respect) but also cultural in how it influences how they each handle emotional confrontation, or, in the case of Stolas, how they don't.

The great thing about canon giving you only vague details about a character is the fact that you can take that character to the Build-A-Blorbo workshop and stuff them with whatever headcanons your little heart desires.
