Top #Samsung #GalaxyAI features I like. For January 31, 2024 release included in the #GalaxyS24series. Galaxy AI features language detection and translation, image creation, and coding.
1) AI Live Translate:
Call is integrated into the native call feature and enable audio and text translation in real-time. Useful for conversations with people who speak a different language. It will turn mobile devices into personal translators. No need for an interpreter.
2) Circle to Search with Google:
Previously, long-pressing the home button on Android triggered Google's voice assistant or using Google Lens to search. On the Galaxy S24, the same action prompts a screen overlay where you can tap or circle an object to perform an image-based Google search. Because the results are presented on top of your existing screen or app, exiting out of the interface simply returns you to where you were at the start.
3) Transcript Assist:
Galaxy AI can transcribe, translate, and summarize voice memes and text in the Samsung Notes app. To take things further, you can modify how the summary is presented, whether it's bulleted or written in paragraphs.
4) Generative Edit:
Similar to #Google #Pixel8 #MagicEditor, Galaxy AI will let you modify people or objects by long-pressing (or circling) them and moving, resizing, or removing them from the background. It's like a simple version of Photoshop that requires no Photoshop skills. You can also expand images with generative fill, with Google's Imagen 2 running in the backend. Other AI Camera features: Grabbing super slow-motion video clip from fast action moving videos; remove unwanted shadows, reflections or glare from the face or other photos; and "Edit Suggestion" to make the photos better.
5) Chat Assist:
When you're unsure of how to appropriately phrase a message, Galaxy AI can provide alternatives in different tonalities, including casual and formal tones.
Note: "Circle to Search" feature which enables quick access to information without having to leave the app, will be available from January 31 on some premium #Android smartphones. Google did not disclose when the new function will be available on #iPhones.
📸 #GalaxyS23. These AI features hopefully will be made available to the #GalaxyS23series later.

[D]omesticated attack dogs [...] hunted those who defied the profitable Caribbean sugar regimes and North America’s later Cotton Kingdom, [...] enforced plantation regimens [...], and closed off fugitive landscapes with acute adaptability to the varied [...] terrains of sugar, cotton, coffee or tobacco plantations that they patrolled. [...] [I]n the Age of Revolutions the Cuban bloodhound spread across imperial boundaries to protect white power and suppress black ambitions in Haiti and Jamaica. [...] [Then] dog violence in the Caribbean spurred planters in the American South to import and breed slave dogs [...].
---
Spanish landowners often used dogs to execute indigenous labourers simply for disobedience. [...] Bartolomé de las Casas [...] documented attacks against Taino populations, telling of Spaniards who ‘hunted them with their hounds [...]. These dogs shed much human blood’. Many later abolitionists made comparisons with these brutal [Spanish] precedents to criticize canine violence against slaves on these same Caribbean islands. [...] Spanish officials in Santo Domingo were licensing packs of dogs to comb the forests for [...] fugitives [...]. Dogs in Panama, for instance, tracked, attacked, captured and publicly executed maroons. [...] In the 1650s [...] [o]ne [English] observer noted, ‘There is nothing in [Barbados] so useful as … Liam Hounds, to find out these Thieves’. The term ‘liam’ likely came from the French limier, meaning ‘bloodhound’. [...] In 1659 English planters in Jamaica ‘procured some blood-hounds, and hunted these blacks like wild-beasts’ [...]. By the mid eighteenth century, French planters in Martinique were also relying upon dogs to hunt fugitive slaves. [...] In French Saint-Domingue [Haiti] dogs were used against the maroon Macandal [...] and he was burned alive in 1758. [...]
Although slave hounds existed throughout the Caribbean, it was common knowledge that Cuba bred and trained the best attack dogs, and when insurrections began to challenge plantocratic interests across the Americas, two rival empires, Britain and France, begged Spain to sell these notorious Cuban bloodhounds to suppress black ambitions and protect shared white power. [...] [I]n the 1790s and early 1800s [...] [i]n the Age of Revolutions a new canine breed gained widespread popularity in suppressing black populations across the Caribbean and eventually North America. Slave hounds were usually descended from more typical mastiffs or bloodhounds [...].
---
Spanish and Cuban slave hunters not only bred the Cuban bloodhound, but were midwives to an era of international anti-black co-ordination as the breed’s reputation spread rapidly among enslavers during the seven decades between the beginning of the Haitian Revolution in 1791 and the conclusion of the American Civil War in 1865. [...]
Despite the legends of Spanish cruelty, British officials bought Cuban bloodhounds when unrest erupted in Jamaica in 1795 after learning that Spanish officials in Cuba had recently sent dogs to hunt runaways and the indigenous Miskitos in Central America. [...] The island’s governor, Balcarres, later wrote that ‘Soon after the maroon rebellion broke out’ he had sent representatives ‘to Cuba in order to procure a number of large dogs of the bloodhound breed which are used to hunt down runaway negroes’ [...]. In 1803, during the final independence struggle of the Haitian Revolution, Cuban breeders again sold hundreds of hounds to the French to aid their fight against the black revolutionaries. [...] In 1819 Henri Christophe, a later leader of Haiti, told Tsar Alexander that hounds were a hallmark of French cruelty. [...]
---
The most extensively documented deployment of slave hounds [...] occurred in the antebellum American South and built upon Caribbean foundations. [...] The use of dogs increased during that decade [1830s], especially with the Second Seminole War in Florida (1835–42). The first recorded sale of Cuban dogs into the United States came with this conflict, when the US military apparently purchased three such dogs for $151.72 each [...]. [F]ierce bloodhounds reputed to be from Cuba appeared in the Mississippi valley as early as 1841 [...].
The importation of these dogs changed the business of slave catching in the region, as their deployment and reputation grew rapidly throughout the 1840s and, as in Cuba, specialized dog handlers became professionalized. Newspapers advertised slave hunters who claimed to possess the ‘Finest dogs for catching negroes’ [...]. [S]lave hunting intensified [from the 1840s until the Civil War] [...]. Indeed, tactics in the American South closely mirrored those of their Cuban predecessors as local slave catchers became suppliers of biopower indispensable to slavery’s profitability. [...] [P]rice [...] was left largely to the discretion of slave hunters, who, ‘Charging by the day and mile [...] could earn what was for them a sizeable amount - ten to fifty dollars [...]'. William Craft added that the ‘business’ of slave catching was ‘openly carried on, assisted by advertisements’. [...] The Louisiana slave owner [B.B.] portrayed his own pursuits as if he were hunting wild game [...]. The relationship between trackers and slaves became intricately systematized [...]. The short-lived republic of Texas (1836–46) even enacted specific compensation and laws for slave trackers, provisions that persisted after annexation by the United States.

Today at the eye clinic I was talking to the receptionists to make my next appointment and I mentioned I was studying to work in a similar job (but preferably in radiology) and mostly they were like, "Oh, nice! Good luck!"
But one walked over near me and whispered
"You have to deal with the public a LOT" in a warning tone like, this job is hard! Don't think it'll be easy!
And I replied, "Yeah, I did retail for ten years. I've got that part down"
And we all had a laugh, it was pretty cool
#it's the medical terminology and medical transcription and related procedure stuff that i need to learn#i am pretty good at talking to people. and talking them down.#i've also done call center charity fundraising and customer service#i can deal with grumpy patients at a clinic#it won't be FUN but i can deal#job stuff#mod post#also there were like 4 people working at the reception desk and i called them receptionists just now but who knows#could have been a medical transcriptionist or an optician's assistant or a secretary or whatever in there i didn't ask for job titles

“BREAKING: A constitutional amendment has been filed allowing President Trump to seek a 3rd term in office.
"No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice."
It was filed by Congressman Andy Ogles (R-TN).
Don’t let this slip by unnoticed. This is not just “one extra term”, it’s a warning shot. It’s a red flag. It’s an omen.
They are slowly turning up the heat in the pan. Do not be the frog who sits denying it’s getting hotter.
One extra term will become two, two will become three, and three will eventually give way to lifelong reign of each president.
Fight. Fight for God’s sake.
Contact your local representative of congress. Convince them we do not want this.
We are going to end up in a dictatorship.

At the California Institute of the Arts, it all started with a videoconference between the registrar’s office and a nonprofit.
One of the nonprofit’s representatives had enabled an AI note-taking tool from Read AI. At the end of the meeting, it emailed a summary to all attendees, said Allan Chen, the institute’s chief technology officer. They could have a copy of the notes, if they wanted — they just needed to create their own account.
Next thing Chen knew, Read AI’s bot had popped up inabout a dozen of his meetings over a one-week span. It was in one-on-one check-ins. Project meetings. “Everything.”
The spread “was very aggressive,” recalled Chen, who also serves as vice president for institute technology. And it “took us by surprise.”
The scenariounderscores a growing challenge for colleges: Tech adoption and experimentation among students, faculty, and staff — especially as it pertains to AI — are outpacing institutions’ governance of these technologies and may even violate their data-privacy and security policies.
That has been the case with note-taking tools from companies including Read AI, Otter.ai, and Fireflies.ai.They can integrate with platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teamsto provide live transcriptions, meeting summaries, audio and video recordings, and other services.
Higher-ed interest in these products isn’t surprising. For those bogged down with virtual rendezvouses, a tool that can ingest long, winding conversations and spit outkey takeaways and action items is alluring. These services can also aid people with disabilities, including those who are deaf.
But the tools can quickly propagate unchecked across a university. They can auto-join any virtual meetings on a user’s calendar — even if that person is not in attendance. And that’s a concern, administrators say, if it means third-party productsthat an institution hasn’t reviewedmay be capturing and analyzing personal information, proprietary material, or confidential communications.
“What keeps me up at night is the ability for individual users to do things that are very powerful, but they don’t realize what they’re doing,” Chen said. “You may not realize you’re opening a can of worms.“
The Chronicle documented both individual and universitywide instances of this trend. At Tidewater Community College, in Virginia, Heather Brown, an instructional designer, unwittingly gave Otter.ai’s tool access to her calendar, and it joined a Faculty Senate meeting she didn’t end up attending. “One of our [associate vice presidents] reached out to inform me,” she wrote in a message. “I was mortified!”

Chapter 2: Assistance Experience
Narrated by Vermillion.
Narrator: Seven days to New Year's, Helz and I land in the Lodden Airport.
Narrator: Streetlights glow like diamonds in the night. Bright neon signs make the skyline both dazzling and surreal.
Narrator: This close to New Year's, lively rhythms permeate every corner. Golden and red ribbons adorn the top of exquisite gift boxes in shop windows.
Narrator: The giant screen in the square has the ad for Night of Twin Queens on loop. The vivacious play blends seamlessly into the energetic surroundings.
Narrator: The cocktail takes place at the Lodden Hotel, a famous landmark in Lodden.
Helz: Shop talk and a design demo precede the finale party, held on New Year's Eve.
Helz: On the night of the party, all designers must wear their own designs to the cocktail. A ballot is held to determine the best design.
Narrator: A lot of designers come just to show off their work at the party.
Narrator: I see. Guess it's a marvelous opportunity to see masterpieces from renowned designers.
Narrator: The assistant's work is more tedious than I'd expected.
Narrator: Once I get in, I have to run around and make sure everything is in order, wait for the staff to show up, and gather all different things that Helz needs.
Narrator: To facilitate meetings for him, I've prepared two versions of the document, one streamlined, the other detailed, and put them in separate places in the folders.
Narrator: Helz gives me a satisfied look as I pass him the folder.
Narrator: I stay off to the side as Helz chats up the other designers, discreetly observing and sizing up everyone at the party.
Narrator: As I do so, I take mental notes on the information I would need for the next meeting.
Narrator: Looking around, I see staff shuttling racks laden with different, brand-new outfits.
Narrator: Men and women dressed to the nines mingle on the couches, locked in intense discussions, the fashion magazines in front of them dotted with circles and notations.
Narrator: Just one round around the room with Helz, and my hands are already full with stacks of information on designers and brands.
Narrator: I take advantage of him attending the new release presser to sort the information by design styles, and mark the designer names for easy reference.
Choose "Did you meet any designers you liked?"
You: Did you meet any designers you liked?
Narrator: I got to know Helz' good friend Sonya when making the rounds with him. She's a very personable designer.
Narrator: She was polite to even an assistant like me, and taught me how to talk to other designers. I finished my work quickly because of her help.
Choose "How about ones you didn't like as much?"
You: How about ones you didn't like as much?
Narrator: Just between you and me, yes.
Narrator: Like that blonde woman who insisted on wearing shades indoors, Caroline, the ace designer with John Jacobs.
Narrator: I wasn't familiar with the venue, so I asked someone for directions and it turned out to be her.
Narrator: She stared daggers at me and then ignored me.
Narrator: Later, Helz tells me Caroline's designs have been the red-carpet highlight of every Apple Federation International Film Festival.
Narrator: With their flamboyant looks and avant-garde concepts, her designs were lauded by many critics.
Narrator: She also worked exclusively with many stars, too, basically designing for whoever is hot. She even did Mercury's suit.
Narrator: But she has a bad temper. She's given a tongue lashing to almost every assistant she's brought.
Narrator: Luckily, Helz is a cool boss.
Narrator: As an assistant, I'm here to learn. Excellent designers have to be that way because they all have their own fortes.
Narrator: Some of the designers are hard to get on with, but I'll still do my job!

Remember how I said I couldn't stop thinking about Ghouls? yeah LOL. Anyways, I finally finished my "Ghoul Guide" which is a comic featuring made up lore about summoning nameless ghouls as well as things about them and their roles!
this by no means is comprehensive of everything I've made up for them, but I'm testing the waters with this comic! if it gets enough love I'll make an additional comic about ghoul origins, element types, and maybe even design non-assigned ghoul outfits for each era costume hehe.
ID in ALT text! transcript for comic text under the cut!
Transcript is numbered for each page the text is for!
A rite of passage for becoming “Papa”, It starts with a will and your judgement
A specialized chamber is necessary, 1) to avoid interference 2) to prevent escape.
After all; feral ghouls are raw elements, And to survive, one must tame them.
Each element has a diversity of strengths and rarity / and the first ghoul summoned sets precedent for how a leader is perceived.
Additionally, the first is the personal servant and an important assistant for life; Often times assistance is needed for future summoning, but a limit of 2 maintains respect to show you’re still capable.
However, they must accept you- you must earn their respect, and they only choose if willing. And they are not always willing.
One must be prepared to face Hell itself. To prove one is worthy to take the stage, controlling the devil’s magic is key.
It’s important to roll the dice and summon a variety, but one may only tame as many as the power of their sin allows, which, naturally, varies.
And while they’re loyal as determined by one’s rank… / Remember: The ministry comes first.
Ghoul records broken by copia.
Record: Most ghouls summoned at one time: 8 (10 including past members), Record: Most obedient first summon (for an amateur).
Record: Most powerful summons (2 S-Class ghouls); All consuming Hell Fire (AKA: “Sodo” or “Dew”); Hurricane From Hades (AKA: “Cumulus”); Record: Most elemental offshoots summoned (3). Offshoots of (then lists the symbols for quintessence and fire).
ghoul roles.
Assistance, Fighting.
Personal Guard, And of course: Performing.
end transcript.
