So I've recently realized that murderbot's been translated into my native language and it's apparently a he in the translation (which admittedly makes sense, because it's a heavily gendered language and 1. gender-neutral language doesn't really exist in general and 2. "bot" and all the related words - I believe they use "droid" for mb in the translation - are grammatically masculine).

It made me curious how it's been handled in other translations though!

*e.g. being referred to by multiple gendered nouns/pronouns depending on the context, like both "bot" (masculine) and "machine" (feminine).

The trust system can do wonderful and uplifting things and the trust system can do cruel and terrible things. Trust and the trust system itself is not the enemy, what the conflict centers around is the misuse and abuse of trust. So far the main angles have been:

Heroes and the hero industry - showing people whatever they want to believe is true

The public - giving and withdrawing trust based on superficial qualities; expecting too much of someone

Prediction: the trust system is not going to be burned to the ground, because it's a metaphor for real trust, and the equivalent solution is not to stop trusting altogether. The solution that's are being worked out through the show is how to handle misuse of trust, eg

how do you recover from losing someone's trust

how do you balance the costs and rewards of living up to expectations

where is the line between living up to expectations and living a lie

so far the show's been mostly from the hero perspective, not from the believer perspective. hope we get to see that angle too

It's incredible that like thematically Danganronpa sets itself up to be about falling into despair and then undermines that theme at every possible turn. Like okay the Brainwashing aside you're telling me there's one villain that's literally an artificial human with a mind people cannot comprehend, and one villain who appears to be a fundamentally twisted warped being whose actions suggest a trickster god or satanic figure driving everyone they can into despair, and they're *different characters*!?!?!?!?

Some fromsoft fans that get hung up on things not being said explicitedly are so annoying "it is not said it is theorized" mannn do you want maria to turn to the camera and say "hello i am ladymaria oftheastralclocktower i committed suicide" instead of taking in the rather obvious context clues

This is very self indulgent and I wasn't even expecting to finish it in time for boniji day. Maybe I just love the pairing so much I wanna make something for it also cuz I still haven't drawn anything about them lately cuz depression go brrrrr

This is initially from Nijika's POV towards Bocchi but some lyrics strayed from that especially the dog part and the last one. But this could also be from Bocchi's POV visualizing Nijika's feelings about her since the edit did start and end with Bocchi in it so...yeah that's how this edit is interpreted (also I kinda got stuck of not knowing what clips that could fit in some parts so ignore if most of the clips are from episode 8)

Btw at the 「またね」 and 「また明日」 part, I was originally going to put the same lines by both Nijika & Bocchi from the show but it sounds out of place so I scrapped it. Tho if I'm better at editing I could make it work and blend it along with the song without it sounding weird (but I'm not :P)

Another thing is that although the lyrics did say 授業 (class) / 放課後部 (after-school club) / LINE in some parts, I changed it to バイト (part time job or in this case I chose work) / 帰宅部 (go-home club) / LOINE to fit the terms in BTR

now that i know more abt fansubbing and the techniques available to styling them, i cannot stop thinking abt how lazy crunchyroll's presentation has kind of always been. like i guess it's got to be at least in part because even today, there aren't a lot of options for styling subtitles in a browser without burning them into the video itself, but i mean like. they don't even translate the op/ed lyrics!!!!! c'mon man!!!!
