No. 27 | "I'll be anything you want. You love me more than you love yourself." PC2 masterlist requests
prompt list (if you request a prompt, please request a player for it as well!) warnings: studying too much, over working, exhaustion
Currently, it’s exam time in Spain. Being slightly older than Pau, you are soon to take your final Bachillerato exam, and you are stressed. Also being the eldest daughter, you may or may not have some tendencies to put yourself second… or third… or fourth…
So at the moment, you’re stressed out of your mind over exams, while trying to cram every night and barely sleeping, running off caffeine and Sharpie fumes, still trying to help out and take care of everyone else around you, all while also balancing a professional football career. One night, when Pau comes over to your dorm to see what you’re doing because he’s a bit bored. That’s actually one of the big perks of still living in La Masia, well, to him anyway, his girlfriend is just down the hall and readily available for him to annoy.
When he enters your dorm, he finds you sitting at your desk, face down in a book, asleep. He sighs, having found you in similar positions multiple times already this week, being the caring boyfriend he is, he wakes you up with soft kisses on the head and once you’re (mostly) awake, he gently sits you up, removing your face from the book and guiding you to the bed.
You yawn tiredly, “Hola, amor meu (my love).” your response is nothing more than an unimpressed sigh as you’re carefully laid down on the bed, him tucking you in and snuggling up next to you. Instinctively, you curl into him, and he pulls you closer, burying your face in his chest.
“Ets un ou (you’re an egg), it’s 9am and you’re passed out at your desk again, did you sleep at all night?” he scolds gently, running his fingers through your messy hair. “Like… maybe a little bit.” you reply with yet another yawn. “Estàs dient la veritat? (are you telling me the truth?)” “Mostly…” you murmur, your breath evening out as you fall asleep in his arms.
You sleep for what feels like 30 minutes, but in actuality is more like 2 hours, and the whole time, Pau lays there with you, kissing the top of your head, playing with your hair, drawing patterns on your waist… When you finally do wake up, you both just lay there cuddling for a moment or two, before he speaks up again, “No m'agrada quan fas això. (I don’t like it when you do that). It’s unhealthy.” “Do what?” “Stay up and work so hard that I find you face first in a book in the morning.” “Oh.” “Yes.” “Ho sento (I’m sorry).” you say softly, fiddling with the hem of his t-shirt.
“I don’t want you to be sorry, I want you to talk to me,” he tilts your chin up so you have to look at him, “T'estimo, i només vull que siguis feliç. Però en aquests moments no veig la felicitat en aquests bells ulls (I love you, and I just want you to be happy. But right now I don't see happiness in those beautiful eyes.),” he takes a deep breath, “so please, tell me what’s worrying or stressing you, what I can help with, whatever. I just want my carefree, smiling you back.”
You sigh, looking at him hesitantly. You don’t want your problems to turn into his problems, but goddamn those eyes are so convincing.
"I'll be anything you want. You love me more than you love yourself at the moment, do it better for me, just let me help."
So you do. You relent and spill everything to him, about the stress, the giant to-do list, the exhaustion, how hard it’s been recently. And by the end of it, there’s some rogue tears running down your cheeks, and you’re a little breathless. Pau uses the pad of his thumb to carefully wipe the droplets away, kissing both of your cheeks, and then a quick peck on your lips.
“I’ll help you with all of that amor, we’ll work through it together, d'acord (okay)?”
You sniffle and bury your face right back into the crook of his neck, where it fits perfectly. “T'estimo. Per sempre i sempre (I love you. Forever and always.).” Pau kisses your forehead and lets his lips stay there, “Per sempre i sempre, amor meu (Forever and always, my love.).” he murmurs softly against your skin, and you slowly feel yourself drifting off again.

Jason Todd x Reader - Teacher AU Pt 2
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jason Todd x Gender Neutral!Reader
While on a school trip, Two Face takes you and your class hostage in the Gotham Museum. After realising Damian is missing, you sneak away to find him, running into the Red Hood instead, who is of course, Mr Jason Todd, your colleague and forever rival, behind the mask. TW: Hostage-taking, guns, violence, blood, bad language
A/N The fic that started it. yeah I wrote this one first lol. I have not yet started writing part 3 and I have exams this week so it might be worked on next week. I don't plan on this series being longer than three parts but if inspiration strikes me, we'll see.

Pt 1 Pt 2
Your students were rowdy on the bus. You could hardly blame them, it was far too early on a Saturday for your liking but you’d offered this history trip as an extra credit option open to your freshman class as part of your Ancient History topic and a surprising number of students were interested. So you, your teaching assistant and your 15 pupils all piled out the bus and into the Gotham Museum at 9am on a Saturday. The exhibition you were visiting was from Themyscira. Jewels, weapons, art: all very rare and very valuable. It was of course a walking advertisement to be robbed but the exhibition had been untouched for days so you had convinced your school board that this was a safe opportunity for the children to see some of the things you had been learning about in class.
The exhibition room itself was large. It had clearly been styled to replicate Themyscira’s Greek architecture, with tall marble columns and large braziers lighting the room dramatically. Your class settles near the start of the exhibition and a tour guide who introduces themselves as Sammy begins the talk.
“And this is the original axe that Wonder Woman used. Beside it you can see some of the armour pieces she donated when the exhibition was first organised. Later you might even get to hold some.” The students all started chattering excitedly at the prospect. Your group was then led around the large room over to a tapestry depicting the history and movement of Themyscira into the international community. “Themyscira is now a thriving nation with Wonder Woman acting as their UN diplomat.” The guide then turns, “And over here we have some pottery shards depicting different parts of her life.” The first half of the tour wraps up shortly after that and the students are given some free time to explore the exhibition themselves.
You make your way around the room, listening in and helping out the students with their worksheets until you overhear a group near the entrance.
“It’s a pity Mr Todd couldn’t come,” you hear a student say. He wasn’t there, you’d made sure of it no matter how much your students begged. It’s unfortunate that the trip was scheduled the same day as an important rugby tournament. “Wonder Woman is his favourite superhero.”
It’s a pity that you now have to hate Wonder Woman for the rest of your life. Okay that’s dramatic but now she’s been ruined. Why would he do this to you?
“My favourite is Batman. We’re Gothamites, remember?” One kid grins.
“Wonder Woman is an admirable hero but I must agree with Charlie, Batman is superior.” Damian interjects. You were glad he was starting to be more social in his classes after your conversation.
“I like Green Arrow.”
You can then hear raucous laughter as your student tries to defend her choice, until she locks eyes with you and decides that her safest bet is to offer you as a sacrifice instead. “Who’s your favourite hero?”
Well you can’t say Wonder Woman anymore- even if that was a huge part in why you wanted to come to the exhibition. “Well I quite like Superman. I think he’s an inspiration to us all.” Safest choice. You get a few nods, and a couple eye rolls, of course you made this into a teaching moment. “But my favourite is Robin.” you finish.
Damian gleams at that for a second, puffing his chest out like a preening bird. He then checks his phone. “I must go to the bathroom. I will be back soon.”
“Do you want someone to go with? The museum is pretty big.”
“I do not require assistance. Besides, the next half of the talk will begin soon. I will not be long.”
The next half of the talk started soon after Damian left. The next speaker was very informative and the kids were filling out their worksheets diligently. The guide brought out a couple pieces of real Themyscerian armour when it happened. It started with gunshots near the front of the museum. Then silence. You ushered your kids quickly to the one side of the room alongside other museum visitors, getting them all to crouch low while you and your teaching assistant, Ms Anderson, peered into the corridor. The two security guards in the exhibit had their guns drawn, watching the front entrance double doors with bated breath. Silence. Too silent. The emergency exit door flung open behind you. You turn swiftly, using your arms to corral your kids close together by the wall in a huddle. More gunshots have you flinching. Then the spray stops. You look over at the two guards. Dead. A voice grabs your attention instead.
Two-Face, flipping a coin absent-mindedly. “You will all be fine so long as no one plays the hero while we collect from this lovely display.” He says languidly.
Multiple armed thugs walk into the room pointing guns at the civilians. Now hostages.
“I would hate to hurt any of these cute kids” You scowl at him, not your smartest move but who could blame you. Two-Face smiles and flips his coin. Your eyes widen and Ms Anderson squeezes your hand. “Safe.”
Two-Face replies. “Anyone else want a go?”
You sigh in relief, forcing yourself to swallow your pride and your anger. Your kids are here and you will not be the reason any of them die today. He had almost killed you. Your life was tethered to that stupid coin.
Two-Face then demands everyone’s phones be handed in. You collect your classes. That’s when you notice it. Shit. You settle your class down, praying you miscounted,  sitting them on the floor and doing a quick headcount. 14. Double shit.
“Cathy.” You whispered but it came out almost like a breath. Your teaching assistant turned to you. “We’re one kid short.”
“What?” She frantically replied, “Who?”
“Damian. He went to the bathroom, just before the attack started.”
“Shit.” Cathy paused, doing a quick headcount of her own. “Shit. When Batman gets here we’ll tell him.”
“We don’t have time to wait for Batman.”
“You really think they'd hurt him? We’re hostages, how would shooting a child help?”
“I am not taking that chance. I’ve got to find him.”
“During the active hostage situation? How do you plan to do that?”
You have no idea. You suppose you’d need a distraction. Something to draw attention to the rest of the museum so you can sneak out and find Damian.
A distant bang can be heard. More gunshots. Some of your students cover their ears. Two-Face directs three men to come with him when they leave to investigate.
“Batman will be here soon,” Ms Anderson says with an encouraging smile to the class. Some of your students nod to each other.
“Come on guys,” You chime up, “Do you really think Wonder Woman is going to let someone just steal all her stuff? I’m sure the entire Justice League is on their way”
Your students seem more relaxed by this. There are only two guards left in the room both with heavy weaponry. Some kind of assault rifle you’re sure. But you still need a way out to find Damian. Now more than ever seeing as Two-Face has left the exhibition.
You take a deep breath and stand up. “Um, excuse me, Mr Guard sir,” You ask, hoping you sound very innocent, “I really need the bathroom. Like super bad.”
“Hold it.” He grunts.
“Oh um, I can’t. I have IBS?”
“Fine. Come on. Where’s the toilets?” Well, he sure changed his opinion quick. But you know what they say, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
“What, you're just gonna take her?” The other guard groans.
“Uh yeah. I have a wife with IBS. When they got to go, they got to go.”
“So you’re gonna leave me by myself for the Batman?”
“One: Batman's nocturnal. It’s lunchtime. I don’t think he’s coming.” Some of your students snicker at this but Cathy silences them quickly. “And two: you are the only one in the room with a semi automatic gun. And the emergency exit has two guards right outside. But I guess if you can’t handle it I can call in one of the boys from the prehistoric section.”
“No I can handle it… just be quick.”
“Yeah, yeah.” The goon turns to you, “Come on.”
Okay. Stage one complete. And you’re going to the toilets towards Damian which is good. Unfortunately you don’t know how to lose the guard you have. You want to observe him but he’s walking behind you so you have no idea if he has any back up weapons. You reach the nearest toilets quickly and you strain to listen for any noise coming from the men’s bathroom. Nothing. Either Damian was hiding very well or he wasn’t in there anymore. You still needed to check for yourself, just to be safe.
“Um sorry, can you go grab my bag? I don’t have my medication on me, they're in my purse. I left it in the other room.” You ask the guard, begging for a miracle.
“Oh no problem.” You breathe in full of hope that he’s just going to leave you unattended until he pulls a plastic sandwich bag with medication out of his suit jacket and hands it to you. You blink.
“They’re for my wife. Always good to be prepared. What kind do you need?”
You blink again.
“Uhhh. The anti-diuretics?”
He hands you the pill pack. “I’ll wait here, be quick.” He orders.
You walk into the bathroom.
You must be in shock. Yeah, that must be it. This is the strangest hostage situation you’ve been in. But you still needed to find Damian.
You’d only just started pacing in the bathroom when the door slams open and the goons body falls to the ground. Your eyes widen as the Red Hood stalks in.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” He demands. The Red Hood is as imposing as one would expect an ex-crime lord turned vigilante to be. But you don’t have time to consider the politics of vigilantism.
“It’s one of my kids. His name’s Damian. He wasn’t with the group when the attack started. He was in the bathroom. You need to help me find my kid. Please.” You beg.
Red Hood stands there for a second stunned. Jason wasn’t really used to anything but cold and snide remarks from you, and maybe the occasional light-hearted jab. Aside from that heart to heart on parents’ evening that started sincere and well-meaning, when you remembered yourself, you returned to harshness or just plain avoided him. To see you so worried over Damian was a breath of fresh air. He stood unmoving for far too long so you decided you would at least check the other bathroom while his brain rebooted or whatever. Jason only saw a glimpse of you leaving the room, when he ran out after you, and watched you enter the neighbouring door.
“Damian.” You whisper-shouted “Damian. It’s me. Are you here? Tell me you're here.”
No reply.
Then you spot it. Damian’s backpack on the floor of a locked cubicle. “Shit. Damian!” You pull yourself up to look into the cubicle, praying to any and all gods out there that there was a perfectly good reason he wasn’t responding. You breathe a sigh but you don’t know whether you should be relieved or not. The cubicle was empty.
“He’s not here.” You say, absentmindedly as you pull the backpack out from under the cubicle door and swing it onto your shoulder.
“You can’t just run off like that.” Red Hood chastises. “You could get hurt.”
“So could my student.” You whip back at the man. “Who is not here and could be bleeding out somewhere. I need to find him. I have a duty of care to these kids.”
This was the version of you Jason was used to. An angry spitfire, although he hadn’t seen righteous fury before. The protectiveness you have over your students, his brother in particular, made him feel something. Although he wasn’t entirely sure what.
“Look, you need to calm down. Describe the kid.” he of course knew what Damian looked like. He also knew that you wouldn’t find him because he was in his Robin costume fighting Two-Face. He was sure Alfred would be having a conversation with him about smuggling his Robin costume onto a school trip in his backpack. But he needed to calm you down and convince you that Damian was safe.
“Damian Wayne. 5”4, dark black hair, green eyes.” You paused, thinking for a moment, “Angry eyebrows.”
He choked a laugh back.
“I already found him. He’s safe, outside with the GCPD.”
“Oh thank god.” Jason watches you release 10 years worth of stress from your body at that admittance. “We need to get back to the group. If I stay away too long the guards might get suspicious and something might happen to the kids.”
God, Jason had misjudged you. You had a heart of pure, shining gold. He feels bad about all the misunderstandings now. He promises himself that he'll be nicer to you on Monday but first he needs to focus on getting you out.
“There’s one guard in the room with the hostages and two outside the emergency exit. Do you think the GCPD has dealt with the two outside?”
Jason is attracted to competence, and holy shit you're competent right now. Making plans, working to protect the kids. Maybe his colleagues were right when they said you were amazing.
“No but Robin will have. Robin report.” He orders, pressing his fingers up to his earpiece.
You wait for a moment as he talks with Robin.
“Wait here.” He orders, “I need to deal with the one guard in the exhibition hall. Lock yourself in a stall. I’ll be back in less than five.”
And with that, the Red Hood leaves you alone.
You move into a stall, locking the door and pulling your feet onto the toilet seat. Five minutes feels like forever. And it can’t have been more than three minutes when you see the light of the outside stream in through the open door on the floor. You get down and unlock the stall. “That was hardly five minutes,” you start as you walk into the bathroom. Then you stop. That’s not the Red Hood.
“Fuck.”
Jason dealt with the last guard easily. No problems in the slightest. He got everyone out the emergency exit and reassured the nice old lady called Cathy that you were fine and Damian had been rescued earlier, that he was going back out for you in just a moment. He opened his com line: “Exhibition room secure, hostages with GCPD.”
“Hood, you did not save my teacher.” Robin’s voice was shaky down the line.
“Ms Anderson is with the paramedics and the rest of your class, I left (Y/N) in the bathroom with your backpack, I’m going back for her now.” Jason rolled his eyes and walked back into the building.
“Hood, building entrance. Two-Face has (L/N).”
Jason hasn’t felt this guilty in a while, running through the corridors of the museum and taking out at least 7 more goons on his way to Robin. He can’t believe he didn’t leave you somewhere more secure or at least with a weapon. Now he has to be the most nicest he’s ever been on Monday. If you make it to Monday. He spots a barely contained rage of a Robin trying to reason with Two-Face, who is holding you against himself, gun to your temple. Jason is glad he can’t see your face. He doesn’t know if he can take it. To see you so terrified when you were so strong just 10 minutes ago.
“Heads? Or tails?” Two-Face asks.
Robin is scanning for any way to disarm him, all his guards are gone but with you in the firing line there’s nothing that can be done. He starts to sneak toward the group.
“I know you’re back there, Red Hood. Stop sneaking around. Or this cute teacher gets it” Two-Face’s rough tone softens mockingly, “Make a bet, start a gamble, heads or tails?” Jason comes out of his hiding place and stalks towards his brother. He would blow Dent’s face off if he could. All he needs is an opening. He’d probably have to fight Damian for the honour though.
“Did my class make it out okay?” It’s the first words you’ve said since Jason entered the room and judging by Damian’s barely sealed expression it’s the first they’ve heard you talk as well.
“Yes.” Jason responds.
You smile and take another breath, adrenaline spiking. “Flip the coin.”
Jason’s eyes widened, he figured they could get at least a few minutes before you’d be forced into the 50/50 but you’d sped up the process. Why? Was this confrontation really so hopeless?
Two-Face flips the coin and as it arcs through the sky Jason shoots it, sending it careening of course toward the front desk. Two-Face lets out a wail and begins dragging you both toward where the coin landed while the vigilantes watch.
He pushes you down onto all fours, gun still at your head, “Find it.” You gulp and start searching for the coin that held your fate. There you see it, angled in a grout line and you see the coin's scars marked upwards.
Jason didn’t think Two-Face noticed your flinch, and if he did, he probably put it towards the general anxiety. But Jason saw. Jason knows you’ve seen that coin. And he knows you didn’t make it. He knows you’re playing on borrowed time now and borrowing from the house never ends well for anyone. He nods to Robin. They have to strike now. He waits for anything that could work as a distraction, he hopes to the Gods for anything but the Gods are silent. It’s you who takes charge again. “I think I see it, I just need to stretch more.” Two-Face moves his gun back as you flop onto your stomach and army crawl so you can reach that bit further. Maybe you could flip the coin, change your own fate. Would two-Face know? Your breathing wasn’t even anymore. Your thoughts didn’t make sense. You just want to go home. You shut your eyes tight and as you grasp the coin and cry “Got it!” Hood launches himself at Two-Face, who fumbles, not having seen the results of his coin and fires instead a warning shot next to your head. It doesn’t matter though because Robin has you and is dragging you towards the doors saying something that sounds like “You’re okay, you’re fine, everyone is safe.” and prying the coin away from your hands but you just don’t know anymore. He brings you to the paramedics but doesn’t head back inside. He doesn’t leave at all. Instead he stands silently next to you like a guard dog or loyal hawk. “Don’t you need to help Red Hood?”
“No.” He responds immediately.
The two of you sit in silence until Cathy comes stumbling over. “Oh my goodness we were all so worried. Are you okay? And before you ask if the kids are all fine, don't worry, everyone is accounted for.” She rambles.
“Even Damian?” You ask.
Robin tenses.
“No but I was assured by Bruce Wayne himself that he made it safely home when I called earlier.”
“Oh thank god. I’m so glad. How are you feeling?”
“Me? I think I might retire next week. I won’t be on any field trips for a while after this. I think it’s too much excitement for my heart.” Cathay laughs, “Do you have a ride home? I’m just getting everyone picked up or sent home and was going to head off myself. You are more than welcome to join me.” She offers, probably feeling somewhat guilty over your ordeal. For no reason of course. It was hardly her fault you were held at gunpoint.
“Don't worry Cathy, I’ll be fine getting back. When the last kid is gone, go home. I’ll do all the paperwork and incident report tomorrow.”
“Oh honey you are an angel, I’ll bring in a lovely cake for you and the class on Monday, we certainly deserve it.” She grins and heads off past the police tape and back to the stragglers of children who haven’t yet gone home.
It’s barely even a minute or perhaps it’s an hour before Red Hood drags Two-Face out of the museum, tied up. The police move in to gather the various unconscious thugs scattered around the building and the vigilantes walk toward you.
“Are you alright?” Red Hood asks, modulated voice heavy.
“I’m fine, no injuries.” You say. You’re really just tired. It’s been too long a day. You want to go home. “I’m sorry for leaving you in the bathroom by myself. I figured Two-Face was busy with Robin.”
“He was busy. It was some goons who dragged me there. It was just dumb stupid bad luck, don’t blame yourself. Besides, if I hadn’t left the group none of this would’ve happened. I’m sorry for making the fight harder.” You curl inwards.
Robin speaks up.
“Do not apologise. You were noble and brave searching for your missing student. I’m sorry you were not informed of his safety.”
“It’s okay Robin, you guys don’t have control over everything that happens in a situation like this.” You try to encourage the young hero.
“You have a good attitude. You would definitely be my favourite teacher.” Jason can’t help but bristle at Damian’s favouritism, wasn’t he the brother?
“Aww thank you. You’re my favourite hero, Robin. Superman’s got nothing on you.” You smile. God that smile would knock Jason out. He’s honestly quite glad you hate him at the school. He doesn’t think he could manage if you treated him so kindly. Unbeknownst to Jason of course, you suppose that, secretly, Red Hood was also your favourite. He had changed your fate. And after saving your life it didn’t seem that Wonder Woman could really compare to the Red Hood.

On the stump (h.s.)
Part II
Two weeks. Only two more weeks and the semester would be over. It's hard to fuck it all up in only 14 days, but not impossible. Y/n was not going to allow herself to lose focus being this close to her dreams. She had it all planned on her journal and in her meticulously curated vision board. She was going to finish all her grading this week and give Mr Morris a highly detailed lesson plan for next semester like none other. He would recognize her hard work and send that recommendation letter to the UN offices. She would reserve the last week to focus on her last exam. Acing that was a guarantee. By the start of the summer she would receive her congratulations email, making her an official UN intern. A celebration was obviously going to be arranged with her friends and family. Then, the search for an apartment and logistic details would occupy the rest of her summer. By the beginning of fall, y/n was going to be on her cozy new place in Vienna working at the UNOV. There was no room for failure.
Y/n kept thinking about the strange interaction she had with that man Harry and Mr Morris. She decided not to question her professor about it. She didn't want to come off as intrusive. If he felt like it would have been important for her to properly meet him, then he would have formally introduced them that day. Who was he, anyway? Not a student of his, at least not a current one. Y/n was also almost sure he wasn't teaching there either. He looked to young for that. Maybe they were relatives? She decided she needed to go somewhere public in order to continue her work and feel the pressure of strangers to stop herself from wondering about silly things.
…
Y/n's plans came true. Although it did not surprise her, she always felt the warmest sense of fulfilment when she got the things she most wanted. Receiving tight hugs and numerous praises from her family and few friends, recognizing her hard work and high achievements, was definitely one of her favourite things in life. Y/n thrived on that; it gave her purpose.
When she got to Vienna, fresh out of Schwechat Airport, she had never felt so free. She opened the taxi's window and let the crisp air travel to her lungs, as she contemplated her new home for the next 9 months. Y/n carried her two large suitcases up the stairs to her small studio with the help of the taxi driver. There were lots of things to do now. Unpack everything, clean and tidy up the place, buy some decorations, groceries, get familiar with public transportations and timetables, learn the itinerary to UNOV. She did all that during the weekend prior to the start of the internship, and she also got a little time to explore the fun places in the city. She couldn't wait to make friends and hang out with them.
On Sunday night, as y/n was planning her perfect first day outfit, she began to feel her dinner turn into knots in her stomach. She wondered if the job would meet her expectations, if she was good enough and if she would get along with her colleagues. Y/n hoped things would run smoothly. She hoped she would enjoy it. Y/n tried to remind herself that not everything was under her control. She could only show up with a friendly smile and trust her capacities, and not be afraid to ask for help. Perfection was not something she should be expecting this early. Awkwardness was a part of the process of being successful. Y/n would do her best, and everything else would come to her.
She repeated these mantras as she arrived to the foyer. One of the secretaries at the reception guided her to a meeting room where she would meet the other interns and get familiar with the tasks she would be given. Y/n took a deep breath before entering, grounding herself to the moment. First impressions were everything.
There were five people sitting and two other standing side by side at the top of the table.
"Good morning. You must be Y/n." One of the women standing smiled at her. "Good morning. Yes, I'm Y/n". She smiled back at her and at the other eyes examining her.
"Welcome. You can take a seat. We will start the presentation now since everyone has arrived." Y/n sat down and checked the time. She was 15 minutes early. All the others had arrived before her. Mr Morris had warned her about this. She would be working with the best students at their universities. A group of overachievers. And she was the last one to arrive.
The presentation was divided by the two women. They were friendly and made sure the interns were comfortable. The activities didn't seem too difficult to y/n. Challenging, yes. But not discouraging. She felt motivated to start working.
"You will be attributed a tutor. Your tutor will be the one responsible for giving you your specific tasks. These tasks will concern mostly his work and position , although you can perform activities in any field of the UNOV. Your tutor will be someone with experience inside these offices. If you need any help, you should go to him. You will meet them now."
They ended the presentation and gave the interns the names and offices of the people responsible for them. Y/n looked at the printed sheet in her hand. Mr. Styles, office 33D. While she waited for the elevator, she read the brief description presented below. He was a Junior Professional Officer on Drugs and Crime. He had held that position for the last four years. She took a photo of his e-mail and schedules for easy access. Drugs and Crime were not her favourite fields, y/n preferred the Environment Programme. She even highlighted that during her interview, thinking she would be a lot more valuable to that department. Y/n tried to not look disappointed as she knocked on the door to his office. 33D.
“Come in.” As she opened the door, she stopped in her tracks, confused by the man sitting at the desk. Y/n couldn’t speak when she locked eyes with him. He didn’t seem to be surprised. “You can close the door now and take a seat.” Harry looked almost annoyed at her lack of action and words. Boy, how the tables have turned.
Y/n took a seat. Is this a joke? “I’m Harry Styles, your tutor.” Her tutor had seen her in her bra. “You’re- “ He raised and eyebrow at her loss of words. He was unimpressed. “I’m your tutor”. Was she hallucinating?
“We have met before.” Y/n made it sound more like a question than an affirmation. He broke the eye contact and took a deep breath.
“Yes, we have. We shouldn’t have. Specially in those circumstances. So, let us forget about it.” He clasped his hands and leaned a little forward. “I won’t be giving you a lot of work today. I’ll call someone to show you the department. You’ll get familiar with your intern colleagues later.” Y/n felt like he was trying to get rid of her. He wouldn’t even look her in the eye. “You can wait in the floor’s lobby.” Harry started to type on his computer, completely ignoring her. “You can go now.”
Y/n wanted to cry of frustration. She couldn’t believe she would be stuck with him for the rest of her internship. She wouldn’t ask for another tutor on her first day. That would make her look too demanding. She would wait a few weeks to ask for that. In the meantime, y/n would have to find a way to cope with this annoying man.
…
Three weeks had gone by, and y/n wasn’t happy. She had gotten familiar with two other interns, and they had even gone out for a couple of drinks in the city. She was really enjoying her cozy studio and her neighbours were quite friendly. Things were doing well except for the main reason she was staying in Vienna. Her job. Harry was giving her tasks that could be given to a 12-year-old. Go print these. Go get me a black coffee. Go give Mr. What’s His Name this file. And those were the few things she would do for him, because most of the time he would just send her off to watch some old documentaries about drugs in some empty tiny office. It was supposed to broaden her horizons on the matter. She was like a dog to him. Fetch, fetch, fetch. Sit there and do not disturb me. All day. Every day.
Y/n was losing her motivation and most importantly her mind. It was impossible to maintain sanity around that devil of a man. She had an exquisite curriculum. She had an amazing interview. She was chosen for her hard work and excellency. She could not tolerate this any longer.
So, on Monday morning, Y/n decided she would confront him about the tasks she was being given. And if he did not change the types of activities he planned for her, then she would ask for another tutor.
She looked at the reflection in front of her. Y/n didn’t particularly have the most threatening face. Her features were childlike. She just hoped her makeup would make her appear older and more serious. Fingers crossed for that smoked liner. After freshening up and giving herself a pep talk in the bathroom, y/n strode to 33D with determination.
“Good morning, Mr. Styles.” I felt weird calling him that. But it would also be bizarre to call your superior by his first name.
“Morning.” He barely even noticed her, preferring the sight of his computer screen.
“I would like to talk to you, if that’s possible.” Y/n tried to discreetly wipe her sweaty hands to her trousers. “Sure.” Not even a glance. Great.
“It has to do with the assignments you have been giving me.” He stopped typing “What about them?” Y/n cleared her throat and continued. “They’re not quite like the types of activities that were described to me during the internship presentation.”
“So? I don’t see the problem. I am not obligated to give you the exact same chores.”
“I understand, but the problem is that these chores are not very challenging. A child could do them.” He raised an eyebrow at her. He was not happy.
“Mr. Styles, I have skills and knowledge that could be very helpful to the department. I am not here to fetch coffee. All the other interns have been doing tasks that are far more interesting than the ones I’ve been given.” Maybe that was too much.
Harry got up from his chair and slipped his hands in his pockets and gazed at her for a minute before speaking. “Fine. I’ll give you more interesting tasks.”
“Oh.” Was it that easy? She should have complained sooner. “Thank you.” Y/n felt relieved at his answer. It wasn’t as bad has she thought it was going to be.
“You’re dismissed for the rest of the day. I’ll have to plan other errands for you.” Y/n swore she almost saw a glimpse of amusement in his eyes. Was he a mad man?
…
That morning, despite the heavy rain and dark grey clouds, y/n woke up on the best mood. If felt like her first day of work. She felt motivated again, knowing that she wouldn’t have to do the job of a secretary and actually or at least potentially do something fun.
On her way to the offices, she received and e-mail from Harry telling her to meet him in the lobby. They would be working somewhere else today. Y/n grew happier, not minding the fact that she forgot her umbrella at home. The walk from the bus stop to work wasn’t long anyway. Harry spotted her the moment she arrived. The girl with the dripping wet hair and a big smile on her face. She’s weird.
“You’re going to be sick. Go to the bathroom and try to dry it out before we go. Be quick.” She didn’t mind his moody demeanour as long as he didn’t ask for another one of his black coffees. Y/n used some toilet paper and the fancy hand dryer to help her look a little better. Her hair was more voluminous and had soft waves due to the humidity. She also looked a bit flush from the walk and the heat of the dryer. Y/n looked like she had just made out with someone. Not very professional.
They rode together in his car to the place where they would be working. The place in question was still a mystery to y/n. Better not bother him with any questions. It was a miracle alone that she was doing something different.
For some reason, Harry kept glancing at her. Did she look too bad? She wished there wouldn’t be someone too important wherever they were going. She noticed a few planes flying low. They were close to the airport.
He parked the car in front of what seemed to be an old warehouse. A very big one. Was she getting kidnapped? He probably got tired of her and decided he wouldn’t tolerate any interns for any longer.
“Where are we?” To y/n’s surprise, Harry opened the door for her. He showed his ID to the security guard that was standing near by and motioned her to follow him.
“This is where the Austrian federal police investigate drug smuggling and other cross-border crimes.” They walked side by side through a long dull corridor. Then he opened another door to a small dark room with a two-way mirror that allow them to see another one. A classic interrogation room.
“The UN tries to make sure that all the fundamental rights of the people being investigated are protected. Even if they are criminals. The department believes in a more humanistic approach to deal with bigger social problems.”
Two other men entered the room and greeted Harry. “This is y/n. She’s here for some field work.” They offered her warm smiles. Y/n didn’t exactly feel at ease, being in a small room with three other men in a random warehouse. She did always want to work in politics though. And politics were dominated by men.
“They’re about to bring him in.” One of them said.
“Who are they bringing?” She whispered to Harry.
“Just watch.”
A woman with a navy uniform entered the questioning room. “Polizei” was written on top of her right shirt pocket. This woman stood there waiting for something. Another man entered the room accompanied by a security guard. He was probably in his mid-forties.
As soon as he sat down, the officer started the interrogation. At first, she almost seemed friendly to him, but after a few minutes she was slowly becoming more serious. One by one, each question provoked the suspect just a little bit more, gradually tormenting him. With his cuffed wrists laid on the table, y/n could see how white his knuckles had become from how hard he was curling his fists. He was on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
All of a sudden, the alleged culprit, who had remained perfectly still until now, got up from his chair abruptly, making it fall sideways to the floor. The loud sound made y/n jump slightly. Harry did not move an inch, nor did the two other men by her side.
Then, the suspect managed to hit the officer and make a long cut across her cleavage with his shiny cuffs before the security guard could get a hold of him. Y/n hadn’t even heard the question that made him lose his mind. The only thing she could see was the crimson that was spreading through her chest. She started to feel faint.
“I’m not feeling well.” Y/n grabbed Harry’s shirt for some support. “I need to get out of here.” He noticed how pale she was. The flushed cheeks from minutes ago totally drained. Harry immediately helped her out of the room. She noticed the two other workers were no longer there. When did they leave?
Harry made her sit on the floor of the corridor and grabbed a cup of water from the machine nearby. “Drink” He squatted in front of her, eyes on the same level, and gaze at her, making sure she didn’t pass out. “Are you okay?” Did he look concerned?
“I’m better.” Y/n rested her head on the wall and handed him the plastic cup.
“What happened? Did you eat breakfast?”
“I don’t like blood.”
“Oh.” Y/n took a deep breath to try to relax and forget that awful image from moments ago.
“What happened?” One of the men from earlier returned. A confused look on his face. “We’ve managed to control the guy. Is she okay?”
“Yeah. Just some low blood sugar it’s all.” Harry gave him a tight smile.
“Was it because of the scene in there? Didn’t she pass the training?”
“Don’t know. Everything’s fine now. Sorry for the trouble.” He dismissed his colleague too quickly for y/n to protest. She still felt weak.
“What training? What did he mean?” They were alone in the grey corridor now.
“It’s nothing. Let’s go back to the offices. “ Harry wouldn´t look at her. “This was a bad idea.” He murmured to himself.
“No. What did he mean?” Y/n was irritated now. What was he hiding from her?
“It’s nothing, y/n, let it go.” He tried to pull her up, but she fought against him.
“No. Tell me now!”
“Fine!” Harry got up exasperated. Fingers pinching the bridge of his nose. “People who observe these interrogations are supposed to take a stupid course on how to deal with violent situations.”
“What? Why did you bring me here then?”
“I didn’t know you would react like that!” Y/n couldn’t believe he thought this would be a good programme. Harry was the worst. He made her miserable. He was irresponsible and selfish. She had come to her final straw.
“I’m going to ask for another tutor.”
“What? You can’t be serious.”
“I’m very serious. You don’t know a thing about tutoring. I haven’t learned any thing with you these past weeks.”
“You will not ask for another tutor”. Harry lowered himself again and pointed a finger at her, an angry look in his eyes.
“Try me.” She had gained her colour back. The anger had awakened her.
“For fuck sakes, y/n.” Harry didn’t know what to do. He didn’t think she was this displeased. He thought she would be happy with the simple chores he gave her. That was stupid of him. It was also stupid to have brought her there.
“I’m sorry.” Harry let a heavy sigh leave his lips in defeat. “I shouldn’t have brought you here. I’ll be a better tutor.”
Y/n couldn’t believe what she had heard. “How can I trust you? Why do you even care that I might want another tutor?”
“It doesn’t matter why. I’m offering what you want, isn’t that enough?” She eyed him with suspicion. “At least think about it.”
“Fine.” Y/n gave in as well. He looked relieved.
Y/n got up slowly but still lost balance. Harry immediately snaked an arm around her steadying her by his side. They walked together towards the exit. Y/n couldn’t help but blush at the close proximity.
She was at least a foot sorter than him. While admiring his jawline and messy curls, her heart was beginning to beat a little faster. Y/n tried to remind herself that he was still her tutor.
“I’ll take you home.”

Tumblr media
CHAPTER ONE
I idle around the bar counter, taking quick glimpses back toward the dance floor. The DJ, surprisingly, knows how to intertwine both the club-hits and the sensual songs in a rhythmic trance. The seating areas were made of huddles of couches line the wall to maximise space for dancing. Which are also surprisingly clean and seemingly un-sticky. Crowds shift between the plush seating to the dance floor. The purple-neons lights glimmer in between the dancing bodies, the pulse of the room is frantic. Ironically, in comparison of the calm that sweeps the bar counter.
I grumble while taking a sip of my cocktail, “What the fuck is in this drink?”
The bartender that was loitering around hands me a napkin, and flashes me a suspiciously bright smile. His odd stripe of silver hair and rather prominent neck tattoos, are strangely out of place with the rest of the staff.
“But not bad for a beginner,” I offer a smile that doesn’t quite reach my eyes. He pauses as he dries the glasses and looks up, his piercing gaze follows my eyes. “That obvious huh,” he tilts his head, raising an eyebrow. “Unless there is something else that you believe can suffice,’’ I carefully slide my glass across the counter along with a bag of Lunari. He raises both eyebrows this time, a smirk spreads slowly across his face and he peeks into the bags. “This suffices,” he comments as he pockets the bag in his waistcoat. “But I’m afraid, the price you must pay will be much larger,” he states ominously.
Do they think I was the cause of the body in the attic, if it wasn’t them, then this is much bigger than we think it is. I need his help to get to the bottom of this.
I finally catch the name tag plastered on the front of the bartender, SAN. From his gelled black and silver hair, to his picture-perfect physique; it made sense that he sent out his General to deal with me. But I have to admit, I didn’t clock him as a coward sending his best soldier as an errand-boy. San guided me past a dark hallway and up dim-lit stairs. San didn’t talk much, that wasn’t his style. He was known to be a man of few words, he minced words as he did with his opponents. “Try not to talk to any of the patrons, it will save you the trouble of joining them,” he warned while opening the door to the drinking section of DARC+AUL.
He is careful to make sure I do not see a single peek of the things that go on in between each burgundy booth. Gracefully guiding me between the dazed patrons, we reach a dark hallway with rows of antique lamps. An melancholic mist coats the hallway and all of the lamps extinguish themselves one by one leaving a singular lamp lit at the end.
“Is there a fog machine or?” I turn to pick on the dear general. “You’ll find what you are looking at the end of the hall,” he quickly shuts me down. San excuses himself with a knowing smirk, and disappears off into the darkness of the hallway.
I quickly make my way down the hallway, sweeping past many doors and lamps to finally reach the last door. The mist creeps up my spine causing a cold sweat to stick to the back of my neck.
How could I possibly explain this situation to anyone?
I pause before I open the door, the intricate designs of the doorknob dig into my palm as I tighten my grip.
No, I have to do this. If I don’t then a war that could destroy this very world will erupt. We cannot afford another war like that. He’s felt the pain of war, he has to understand right?
I push the antique gold knob to enter the room where my audience with the Demon King will take place.
By Celeste, this man better be sane and not some middle-aged fossil creep.

Why More Indian Students Are Choosing to Study MBBS Abroad – A Complete Student Guide
Are you dreaming of becoming a doctor but finding it hard to get into a government medical college in India? Or maybe the high fees of private colleges are stopping you from pursuing your passion? Don’t worry, you're not alone. Thousands of Indian students now explore a better and more affordable option – MBBS Abroad.
Tumblr media
In this blog, we’ll explain everything you need to know about studying MBBS Abroad – the benefits, best countries, admission process, and why it could be the right step toward your medical career. This guide is written especially for students like you who want clear, simple information to make the best decision.
What Does MBBS Abroad Mean?
MBBS Abroad means studying Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in a foreign country. Many international universities offer MBBS degrees that are recognized by global medical councils, including India’s National Medical Commission (NMC).
These programs are usually 5-6 years long and are taught in English. After completing your MBBS degree abroad, you can return to India, clear the FMGE/NExT exam, and start practicing as a doctor.
Why Students Choose MBBS Abroad
Getting a medical seat in India is tough. Every year, lakhs of students compete for just a few thousand seats. Even if you qualify NEET, getting a seat in a government college is like winning a lottery. Private colleges often charge ₹50 lakhs to ₹1 crore for the full course – a price that most families can’t afford.
Here’s why more students now choose MBBS Abroad:
Affordable Tuition Fees
Many countries offer quality medical education at one-third the cost of Indian private colleges. You can complete your entire MBBS Abroad in ₹15–₹30 lakhs, depending on the country.
World-Class Infrastructure
Foreign medical universities have modern labs, advanced classrooms, simulation centers, and attached hospitals for hands-on experience. You study with students from around the world and get international exposure.
No Donation or Capitation Fees
Unlike private Indian colleges, most foreign universities do not charge any kind of donation. Admission is based on merit and your NEET score.
Global Recognition
Medical degrees from approved universities are recognized by the WHO, NMC (India), ECFMG (USA), and other global medical bodies. This gives you the chance to work not just in India but also in the USA, UK, Canada, or other countries after clearing local licensing exams.
Top Countries to Study MBBS Abroad
Here are the most popular countries where Indian students go for MBBS Abroad, along with key highlights:
Russia
Affordable fees: ₹18–₹30 lakhs total
Degree duration: 6 years

NMC and WHO recognized universities
Cold climate but safe and student-friendly
Ukraine (Currently not preferred due to conflict)
Many Indian students studied in Ukraine before the conflict began. At present, it's not advisable.
Kazakhstan
One of the cheapest options
Shorter duration: 5 years
Low cost of living
English-taught programs
Good safety and Indian student community
Georgia
5-6 year programs
European standard education
English medium
Increasing popularity among Indian students
Philippines
US-based education pattern
High FMGE pass rate
Excellent English fluency
Friendly environment and tropical climate
Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia

Must be 17 years old or above
Completed 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
Minimum 50% marks in PCB (40% for reserved categories)
Must have qualified NEET (valid for 3 years)
Some universities may also require an English proficiency test like IELTS or TOEFL, but many accept Indian students without it.
Admission Process for MBBS Abroad
Here’s how the typical admission process works:
Research & Shortlist Universities – Choose countries and universities based on your budget, climate preference, and academic goals.
Apply Online – Submit your documents (passport, 10th/12th marksheets, NEET score, etc.)
Receive Offer Letter – Once selected, you get an admission letter from the university.
Visa Application – Apply for a student visa with help from admission consultants.
Travel & Join – Book your flight, settle your accommodation, and begin your journey as a medical student.
Life as a Medical Student While Studying MBBS Abroad
Studying MBBS Abroad is a life-changing experience. You live in a new country, meet students from various cultures, and learn in a practical, modern environment.
Most universities have Indian mess facilities, hostel accommodations, cultural events, and support systems to make students feel at home. Students also get the chance to visit hospitals, attend surgeries, and even do early clinical rotations.
Some countries allow part-time work or paid internships after a certain year. While studying is your main focus, you also build independence and confidence.
Is MBBS Abroad Safe for Indian Students?
Yes, if you choose a reputed university and approved country, MBBS Abroad is safe and reliable. Here are some safety tips:
Go through trusted admission consultants
Verify NMC-approved colleges
Choose universities with good Indian student communities
Always check visa and embassy guidelines
Stay updated with travel advisories
What Happens After You Complete MBBS Abroad?
After completing your MBBS Abroad, you must pass the FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) or the upcoming NEXT exam to practice in India. Many coaching programs are available to help you prepare.
Once you pass, you can register with the NMC, do your internship in India, and start working as a doctor. You also have the option to appear for licensing exams in countries like the US (USMLE), UK (PLAB), or Canada (MCCQE).
Final Thoughts – Is MBBS Abroad Worth It?
Absolutely! For students who don’t get a government medical seat in India and can’t afford expensive private colleges, MBBS Abroad is a smart, practical, and future-friendly option.
You save money, gain international exposure, and still achieve your dream of becoming a doctor. Just make sure to:
Choose an NMC-recognized university
Get proper guidance during admission
Prepare well for licensing exams
Stay focused on your goals
Your journey to wear the white coat starts with the right decision – and MBBS Abroad might just be that decision.
Final Words
With the increasing demand for doctors and the tough competition in India, MBBS Abroad opens a world of opportunities for passionate students. If you have the dream, courage, and dedication, studying medicine abroad can help you turn that dream into reality.

The Ultimate IB Politics Guide: Tychr’s Blueprint for Academic Excellence
In the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, few subjects demand as much critical thinking, cultural awareness, and analytical ability as IB Global Politics. With its intricate mix of political theory, current affairs, and real-world applications, mastering this course requires more than just reading a textbook. It calls for a strategic, skill-focused, and personalized learning experience—exactly what the Tychr IB Politics Guide delivers.
What Makes IB Global Politics Unique?
Unlike other social sciences, IB Global Politics immerses students in contemporary global issues by exploring power dynamics, governance, civil rights, international cooperation, and development. The subject challenges learners to understand political theories and test them against real-life events, preparing them to become thoughtful global citizens who can critically evaluate the world around them.
Tumblr media
The curriculum is structured to offer depth and breadth:
Core Units: Power, Sovereignty, and International Relations; Human Rights; Development; Peace and Conflict
HL Extension: Global Political Challenges, such as climate change, global health, terrorism, and migration
Internal Assessment: A political engagement activity followed by a 2,000-word report analyzing a real political issue
This layered structure makes it essential for students to have an organized and adaptive learning plan that evolves with their needs.
Why Tychr’s IB Politics Guide Works
Tychr’s guide isn’t just a reading list. It’s a comprehensive and interactive learning blueprint designed to help you:
Master theoretical content through curated notes and mini-lectures
Understand real-world applications with updated case studies and media sources
Practice assessment criteria with sample answers and examiner-style rubrics
Engage deeply with global challenges through guided discussions, debates, and simulations
Build research, writing, and evaluation skills necessary for Paper 1, Paper 2, and the IA
With our support, students can transform their understanding from theoretical to practical, and from passive reading to critical analysis.
Integrated Learning Through the T.E.S.T. Methodology
Our acclaimed T.E.S.T. Methodology—Theory, Engagement, Strategy, and Tracking—ensures learning isn’t just informative but transformative:
Theory: Digestible summaries, concept breakdowns, and political science terminology guides make difficult topics accessible.
Engagement: Students participate in mock UN sessions, political simulations, and analytical group discussions to bring politics to life.
Strategy: Through timed writing practice, feedback on past paper responses, and essay structure drills, we teach students how to write high-level answers under exam pressure.
Tracking: Monthly reports, tutor comments, and data-driven insights help students reflect, refine, and recalibrate their study approach.
This methodology promotes not just high scores, but also a passion for the subject and confidence in exam settings.
Preparing for Assessment the Tychr Way
Each IB Global Politics paper has a distinct format, and our preparation is tailored to each:
Paper 1: Focuses on stimulus-based questions. We teach techniques to extract key information, link it to political theory, and formulate short, sharp responses.
Paper 2: Students are expected to write two structured essays. We provide question banks, essay outlines, thesis-building workshops, and personalized feedback.

From Hackathon to Career Path: How Hack4Purpose is Shaping the Innovators of Tomorrow
In today’s competitive and rapidly evolving job market, students and young professionals are seeking more than traditional academic credentials—they are looking for practical, real-world experiences that help them stand out. Hackathons, especially purpose-driven ones like Hack4Purpose, are stepping in to fill that gap.
With their hands-on format and problem-solving focus, hackathons are now seen not just as events, but as career accelerators. Whether you're a coder, designer, entrepreneur, or policy thinker, participating in initiatives like Hack4Purpose can transform your future in ways that a classroom cannot.
A Launchpad for Real-World Skills
Unlike standard academic assignments or exams, hackathons demand collaboration, creativity, time management, and technical execution—all within a highly compressed timeline. At Hack4Purpose, participants are challenged to identify real societal problems and build scalable, tech-enabled solutions in a matter of days.
These projects often involve:
Rapid prototyping
Market validation
Pitch presentations
Real-time feedback from mentors and judges
The process mirrors startup life and prepares participants for careers in both corporate innovation teams and entrepreneurial ventures. The skills you build here—problem-solving under pressure, learning new technologies on the fly, and presenting to stakeholders—are exactly what employers in today’s economy are looking for.
A Resume That Speaks Volumes
Participating in a well-regarded hackathon like Hack4Purpose sends a clear message to recruiters and companies: you don’t just know how to code or design—you know how to apply those skills in the real world. Employers love to see initiative, teamwork, and innovation, and a successful hackathon project often leads to:
Internship opportunities
Startup funding
Invitations to demo days or accelerators
Speaking or mentorship engagements at future events
Several past participants of Hack4Purpose have gone on to launch startups or secure roles in top tech firms—all backed by the credibility and exposure they gained from the event.
Learning Beyond the Screen
What truly differentiates Hack4Purpose from other tech competitions is its emphasis on social impact. The event isn’t just about writing clever code—it’s about developing purpose-driven innovation that aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This unique angle introduces participants to a different kind of learning:
Understanding the roots of social and economic issues
Designing user-first solutions with empathy
Collaborating with NGOs, educators, and grassroots innovators
To stay updated on trends, tools, and techniques, participants can explore the Hack4Purpose Blog, which features interviews, how-to guides, and resources from past hackathons. It’s a fantastic tool for continuous learning, especially for those new to the world of impact-driven tech.
Bridging the Gap Between College and Industry
India’s academic ecosystem is still catching up when it comes to experiential learning and interdisciplinary problem-solving. Hackathons in India like Hack4Purpose serve as a much-needed bridge between education and employability.
At these events, students from engineering, business, arts, and social science backgrounds come together to co-create solutions. They learn to work in teams, manage short deadlines, understand client needs, and even think about business models and sustainability.
More importantly, they connect with industry experts, mentors, and potential employers, forming networks that last beyond the event.
Final Thoughts: Your Career Starts Here
If you're serious about building a career in tech, design, innovation, or social entrepreneurship, events like Hack4Purpose are not optional—they are essential. They equip you with real-world experience, sharpen your soft skills, and show future employers or investors that you’re capable of building things that matter.
So whether you're looking for inspiration, exposure, or a launching pad for your next big idea, there’s no better place to start than Hack4Purpose.

Working Towards a Better Tomorrow: 5 Sustainable Development Goals in the Kenville Community
“Change begins at a community level”, a phrase that resonates deeply with my experience as an occupational therapy student working with the resilient, yet underserved, Kenville community. Settled in the heart of KwaZulu-Natal, Kenville faces complex challenges. Poverty, limited access to healthcare, under-resourced schools, youth unemployment, and environmental neglect. Yet, it is also a community full of potential.
In this blog, I reflect on five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that I actively strive to support in my Kenville, goals that guide my interventions and vision for inclusive, sustainable development.
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
This goal focuses on ensuring healthy lives, promoting well-being for all ages. It includes physical, mental, and emotional health (World Health Organization [WHO], 2023)
Promoting holistic health in Kenville is a core focus of our OT practice. Each morning, we host health promotion sessions where we engage with people in the clinic queues, raising awareness on substance use and abuse, mental health, child development, and disability. These short, accessible talks empower individuals to make informed health decisions and reduce stigma around mental illness and disability. One of our key interventions is the Youth Expressive group, which focuses on youth wellness and development. Through music, art, and storytelling, adolescents are encouraged to express their emotions, reflect on their experiences, and build resilience in a safe, supportive space.
The group also incorporates a peer education approach, where high school students are taught stress and anxiety management techniques ahead of exam periods. This helps build confidence, promotes empathy, and ensures the messages are relatable and relevant. Through these efforts, we are actively supporting both the emotional well-being and mental health literacy of the Kenville community. Thus, this aligns with the aim of the SDG.
SDG 4: Quality Education
This goal promotes inclusive, equitable, and quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all, especially vulnerable children (UNESCO, 2021).
Many learners in Kenville encounter academic obstacles because of socioeconomic difficulties, unknown learning disabilities, or inadequate home support. To improve the fine motor and visual-motor skills of Grade 2 students, I led a small group interventions and performed screenings as part of our school-based occupational therapy program. During one group session, I came across a 9-year-old learner who, despite being in Grade 2, was unable to hold a pencil correctly and did not yet know how to read or write. This was heartbreaking. After looking into it more, I found that the child's mother battles alcoholism, which is why the child was referred from a nearby organization that helps underprivileged kids. Her lack of basic education had been neglected.
I spoke with the principal of the school about the situation and suggested that the student be put in a lower grade to build the academic and motor skills they would need before moving on.
Thus, this case demonstrated the occupational therapists advocacy role in advancing equitable education and making sure students are not positioned for failure because of systemic gaps (Case-Smith & O’Brien, 2015).
Tumblr media
"Group of learners at Seacowlake Primary School engaging in fine motor skill activity using play dough."
SDG 5: Gender Equality
This goal aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls by eliminating discrimination and promoting equal opportunities (UN Women, 2022).
Young women in the Kenville community frequently deal with low self-esteem, unequal access to opportunities, and social pressures. Our current Youth Expressive Group program focuses on the development and well-being of young people, with a particular emphasis on the empowerment of young women and girls. In addition to teaching vital social skills for overcoming everyday obstacles in relationships, school, and the larger community, the program seeks to encourage self-worth and personal goal setting. In a secure, encouraging setting, participants are encouraged to explore their identities and feelings through creative expression exercises like storytelling, music, and art.
We support inclusive participation and leadership among girls by boosting their self-esteem and encouraging self-advocacy, which increases SDG 5.
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
This goal encourages building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialisation, and fostering innovation (United Nations, 2015).
Limited infrastructure in Kenville affects community access to health services. A key example is the unpaved, muddy pathway leading to the OT container, which becomes dangerously slippery during rain, particularly for clients using wheelchairs, crutches, or walking frames. We are currently involved in a project to construct a proper paved walkway to ensure safe and dignified access to therapy. This infrastructure improvement will promote occupational justice by removing physical barriers to care.
This reflects how even small-scale infrastructure improvements can significantly improve access and participation for marginalised populations, thus aligning with this SDG.
Tumblr media
" This is picture shows the place where the pavement will be built in order to facilitate accessibility"
SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
This goal seeks to reduce inequality within and among countries by ensuring social, economic, and political inclusion of all, regardless of background or ability (United Nations, 2015)
In Kenville, people with disabilities frequently experience exclusion from play, public places, and educational spaces. By starting an inclusive soccer program and allowing disabled youth to play alongside their peers in modified settings, we actively wanted to change this. Social barriers were broken down during these sessions, allowing for visibility, teamwork, and shared joy. We lessened stigma and made inclusion possible by encouraging participation from people of all skill levels and fostering common community experiences, thereby symbolising the spirit of SDG 10 in a very real-world way.
Tumblr media
" A group of children with OT students from UKZN playing soccer."
Conclusion
I've learned from my time in Kenville that genuine, sustainable development is achievable, participatory, and personal. I have witnessed through occupational therapy how regular actions, such as educating the youth and creating inclusive spaces, can support more important global objectives. The SDGs are living ideals that can direct good and encouraging behaviour rather than being disconnected rules.
I'm determined to work toward a society that supports everyone's access, equality, dignity, and health as I continue this journey. I've discovered that in Kenville, real change starts with action, listening, and inclusion. One person, one session, one community at a time.

Introduction to UPSC and the Role of Current Affairs
What is UPSC?
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts one of India's most prestigious and competitive exams, the Civil Services Examination (CSE). This exam opens the doors to elite services like IAS, IPS, IFS, and more. It's not just an exam; it’s a life-changer.

Suggestions for Inexpensive Volunteer Opportunities
By Azeez Ismail | National UN Volunteer, India
Introduction:
You don’t need an organization to serve society. You, as a single volunteer, are an NGO. You are already part of the world’s largest organization—the United Nations—as a National UN Volunteer. Own it. Represent it. Let the world know: “I am a National UN Volunteer.”
Volunteer Opportunities (Inexpensive & Impactful):
1. Be a Blessing Daily: Make every encounter meaningful. A kind word or genuine attention can transform someone’s day.
2. Weekend Teaching: Dedicate just two hours on weekends to teach children, especially those who lack guidance.
3. Record Audiobooks for the Visually Impaired: Use a good mic and your voice to open up the world of books for blind students—right from your home.
4. Support Educational & Livelihood Programs:
▪️Teach soft skills, language, computer literacy.
▪️Train youth and women to become employable.
5. Life Skills Through Sports & Arts: Volunteer with initiatives using sports, music, or arts for character-building in schools.
6. Support Public Institutions: Hospitals, shelters, and schools always need support. Customize your help based on your skills and time.
7. Blood Donation & Health Awareness: Join or organize blood donation camps and hygiene awareness drives.
8. Counseling & Awareness Drives: Educate on HIV, mental health, and personality development.
9. Share Creative Skills: Teach music, crafts, dance, or drawing to children in underprivileged communities.
10. Social Media Volunteering: Help organizations grow by managing their online presence and spreading their message.
11. Rural Development: Help in digital literacy, knowledge centers, and natural calamity relief projects.
12. Skill Training: Offer sessions in tailoring, computers, spoken English, or any job-oriented skill.
13. Identify Out-of-School Children: Create local campaigns to help them get back into classrooms.
14. Be a Listener: Sometimes, being present and listening is the greatest form of service.
15. Celebrate With the Forgotten: Share food, time, and love at orphanages, old age homes, and leprosy centers on special occasions.
16. Build a Volunteer Network: Start with a few like-minded people. Meet regularly and act together.
17. Promote Environmental Awareness: Plant trees, clean local areas, or support zero-waste practices.
18. Promote Child Adoption Awareness: Guide people on legal and safe adoption processes and support abandoned children.
19. Civic Awareness: Educate people about government departments and their functions.
20. Support Senior Citizens: Spread awareness against elder abuse and offer time or assistance.
21. Heal Family Bonds: Help bring harmony to broken relationships in your extended family.
22. Road Safety Awareness: Conduct campaigns to promote traffic discipline and safe driving.
23. RTI (Right to Information) Education: Teach others how to use RTI to demand accountability and transparency.
24. Pen Pals for Blind Students: Pair visually impaired children with writing assistants for exams and correspondence.
25. Health Emergency Preparedness: Teach basic first-aid and volunteer at health events like vaccination drives.
26. Empower Women: Support victims of domestic violence, dowry harassment, and gender discrimination.
27. Support Persons with Disabilities: Provide tools, training, and motivation to help them lead independent lives.
28. Health Camps: Organize or assist in free health check-ups and medicine distribution.
29. Support Vulnerable Kids: Focus on
▪️First-generation learners
▪️Single-parent families
▪️Economically disadvantaged children
▪️Kids from Grades 6–10 (high dropout risk)
30. Host Free Workshops Monthly: Topics can include:
▪️Basic learning
▪️Talent grooming
▪️Social responsibility
▪️Life skills
Final Thoughts:
Stop chasing NGOs that exploit your potential for profit. You are enough. Save just 2% of your annual income—Rs. 2000 for every Rs. 1 lakh—and do charity directly. Give by your own hands. Let your service carry the name of your parents, ancestors, or teachers. Make your giving personal and powerful.
Avoid unnecessary expenses on meetings, conclaves, and conferences. Use those funds for real impact. Remember, charity is not just a deed—it’s a legacy.
God bless you.
Serve with love. Rise with grace.

Purple Prose and Other Writing Pitfalls to Avoid for High IELTS Bands
When preparing for the IELTS exam, especially the Writing section, many candidates try to impress examiners by using fancy words and overly complicated structures. However, style without clarity is dangerous—and often leads to lower scores.
In this guide, we explore purple prose and other writing errors that commonly hold IELTS candidates back. You’ll find definitions, examples, types, common mistakes, do’s and don’ts, FAQs, and top strategies for IELTS success.
What Is Purple Prose?
Purple prose refers to writing that is excessively ornate, flowery, or verbose, often sacrificing clarity for style. While it may sound “impressive,” it usually confuses the reader and fails to communicate ideas clearly and directly—a core requirement for high IELTS scores.
Definition:
Writing that uses too many adjectives, metaphors, or fancy words, creating unnecessary complexity and distracting from the main message.
Example of Purple Prose:
“In a realm where the golden tendrils of opportunity intertwine with the thorny vines of adversity, one must courageously venture forth into the labyrinthine tapestry of tertiary education.”
Clear Version:
“Pursuing higher education can be both rewarding and challenging.”
Why Purple Prose Hurts Your IELTS Score
The IELTS Writing Band Descriptors clearly prioritize:
Clarity and coherence
Task response
Lexical resource (accurate and appropriate vocabulary)
Grammatical range and accuracy
Purple prose often leads to:
Overuse of uncommon or unnecessary vocabulary
Long-winded sentences with little meaning
Reduced coherence and cohesion
Frequent grammatical mistakes
Other Writing Errors to Avoid
1. Overgeneralization
Saying things like “All people agree…” or “Everyone knows…” without evidence.
Better: “Many people believe…” or “It is often argued that…”
2. ClichÊs
Overused expressions make writing sound unoriginal.
Avoid: “Every coin has two sides.” Use: “There are both advantages and disadvantages to…”
3. Redundancy and Wordiness
Repeating ideas unnecessarily.
Avoid: “In conclusion, to sum up, the final decision ultimately lies at the end.” Use: “In conclusion, the final decision lies with the authorities.”
4. Ambiguous Vocabulary
Using words that don’t clearly fit the context.
Avoid: “The plan was a colossal situation.” Use: “The plan led to a major issue.”
5. Misusing Advanced Vocabulary
Using rare or high-level words incorrectly.
Avoid: “He exacerbated his salary.” Use: “He negotiated a higher salary.”
6. Lack of Structure
Disorganized paragraphs without topic sentences or logical progression.
Each paragraph should:
Begin with a topic sentence
Be focused on one main idea
Include examples or explanations
Do’s and Don’ts
DO:
Use academic vocabulary where appropriate.
Prioritize clarity, coherence, and cohesion.
Stick to one main idea per paragraph.
Proofread your essay for repetition or awkward phrasing.
DON’T:
Use complicated words just to impress.
Overload your essay with adjectives or metaphors.
Use vague or sweeping generalizations.
Mix informal phrases with academic tone.
FAQs
Is using complex vocabulary bad for IELTS?
No—but only if used correctly and naturally. Forced or inaccurate use of “big words” lowers your score.
What’s the ideal sentence length?
Variety is key. Use a mix of short, medium, and long sentences. Avoid overly long sentences filled with commas and connectors.
Can I use metaphors or analogies in IELTS?
Use them sparingly and only if they clearly support your argument. Avoid figurative language that feels out of place in academic writing.
Top Strategies for IELTS Success
Practice clarity over complexity. If a simpler word conveys your meaning, use it.
Self-edit ruthlessly. Remove any redundant or confusing phrases.
Use academic tone consistently. Avoid mixing casual or poetic language with formal writing.
Study model essays. Learn how high-band essays use a precise and clear style.
Avoid thesaurus traps. Make sure you understand any synonym you substitute.
Sample Sentences: Purple vs. Clear
Purple Prose / Clear Alternative The inexorable march of technological marvels renders human endeavor obsolete. / Technology is rapidly replacing many human jobs. The omnipresent pollution contaminates our pristine azure skies. / Air pollution is becoming a serious global issue. Final Thoughts
Remember: clear writing is powerful writing. The IELTS exam is not a test of how many fancy words you know—it’s a test of how well you can express your ideas logically, coherently, and persuasively in English.
Avoid the temptation to overdecorate your writing. Instead, focus on substance, structure, and simplicity. These are the keys to a Band 7.0+.

A SMARTER WAY TO LEARN FOR A SMARTER WORLD
In a world overflowing with information, the ability to memorize facts is no longer enough. Today’s learners need to connect ideas, apply knowledge in real life and think critically across disciplines. This shift calls for concept-based learning - a method that focuses on understanding the why and how, not just the what.
WHAT IS CONCEPT-BASED LEARNING?
Unlike traditional methods that emphasize content coverage, concept-based learning encourages students to explore broad ideas like systems, change or interdependence across subjects. This approach builds transferable knowledge and deeper understanding.
WHY DOES IT MATTER NOW MORE THAN EVER?
With rapid technological change, students must navigate complexity and ambiguity. Concept-based learning empowers them to make connections, analyze patterns and solve problems in unfamiliar situations - key skills for the 21st century.
REAL WORLD APPLICATIONS IN THE CLASSROOM
Imagine a middle school project where students explore climate change by integrating science, economics, ethics and literature. Instead of isolated facts, they develop a multi-dimensional understanding of a real-world issue, fostering empathy and critical thinking.
THE TEACHERS’ ROLE
Teachers become designers of learning experiences, posing guiding questions, facilitating discussions and helping students’ co-construct meaning. This shift requires new skills but leads to more engaged, independent learners.
Implementing concept-based learning may face resistance from exam-focused systems or rigid curricula. However, many schools are blending it with content standards, using inquiry-based projects and interdisciplinary units without sacrificing academic outcomes.
By moving from rote memorization to deep understanding, concept-based learning equips students not just for exams and also for life. It’s time we move beyond filling minds with facts and start nurturing thinkers, problem-solvers and lifelong learners.
