I’m hugely grateful for and somewhat overwhelmed by the resounding reaction to my previous post related to the intertexuality of William Blake/Good Omens (I’m still getting lots of likes and reblogs every day!). I think it may be the most popular online post I’ve ever made, helped a huge amount by having “Liked by Neil” status!
Spurred on by this, and since people clearly have an interest, I decided to do another one with a more detailed analysis of possible connections between the two and posted it. Unfortunately I rushed to get it done and it was therefore quite superficial. I realised within 20 minutes that I’d got a bunch of stuff horribly wrong. Never post first drafts of anything!!!
I deleted it, however 2 people had already reblogged by that point. I’m sure it won’t have anything like the reach of the original, however if you happen to see it floating around, please be aware that I do not stand by its contents. It may be re-written at some point but I suspect it’s going to be a beast to tackle properly.
In the meantime, have another piece by Blake which I think Good Omens fan may enjoy, an extract from The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, the plate from the book, and also a track from an album by one of my favourite bands, Ulver, which uses the text from the piece as lyrics.
"The Voice of the Devil
All Bibles or sacred codes have been the causes of the following Errors
1. That Man has two real existing principles Viz: a Body & a Soul
2. That Energy calld Evil is alone from the Body & that Reason calld Good is alone from the Soul
3. That God will torment Man in Eternity for following his Energies
But the following Contraries to these are True
1. Man has no Body distinct from his Soul for that calld Body is a portion of Soul discernd by the five Senses, the chief inlets of Soul in this age
2. Energy is the only life and is from the Body and Reason is the bound or outward circumference of Energy.
3. Energy is Eternal Delight."
It was through Ulver that I re-discovered my love of Blake after leaving university, this album takes the entire text of The Marriage of Heaven and Hell and sets it to music. It’s all available on youtube and I’m sure other streaming platforms too, I would really recommend listening.

Because I love Ulver, this is thee "Jonathan delirious with brain fever and nightmares and amnesia at the asylum for six weeks" song to me
I lie and wait and stare into
A dark and endless night
Haunted by images
I lie and wait and stare into
The vampire at the door
A dark and endless night
Haunted by images
The nights of broken glass
The sprinkling of the Earth
The woman without a face
To vanish without a trace
I love the dreamlike atmosphere. I can see him dreaming of broken mirrors (and wolves and ghosts and poison and blood) and dirt on shovels and a vampire at the door and a woman he once knew but whose face he sees vanishing every night
