This lovely all-purpose herb can be used in infusions that reduces stress, and gets rid of headaches. Treats fevers, inflammation and cramps. It is also said to help with mild digestive problems. Soothes the mind of depression and nervousness which makes it also ideal for a good night's sleep.
When it comes to spells, you can use this for peace, love, abundance, inspiration, protection, divination, prosperity, improved skill in the art, tranquility, wholeness, healing, and the reversal of bad magic.
You can create verbena oil (van van oil) simply by allowing the plant to infuse in light grapeseed oil or olive oil. This can be used as a protection oil or a regular blessing oil.
It is also a good idea to add some of the leaves to the sachets you make so that you can balance all the good energies you plan to work with. If you want to make sure your charms work well, add this to them.
Fun Folk Fact - Priests in ancient Rome used vervain to cleanse the altars of Jupiter. Small bundles of vervain were fashioned into a besom and the altars were swept with these. According to tradition, daughters of Druids who were initiated were crowned with vervain; this was a sign of the attained rank. Also, it can be worn as a crown to protect yourself while invoking spirits.
Vervain is traditionally gathered at Midsummer or at the rising of the Dog Star when neither Sun nor Moon is out, but this is not necessary. But, if you so happen to do this, the juice of the vervain gathered, smeared on the body, will allow the person to see the future, have every wish fulfilled, turn enemies into friends, attract lovers, and be protected against all enchantments. Burnt, it will dispel unrequited love.
The infusion sprinkled around the premises chases off evil spirits and malignant forces. Vervain is also added to exorcism incenses and sprinkling mixtures.
It is also a common ingredient in purification bath sachets.
The dried herb is scattered around the home as a peace-bringer and is also worn to calm the emotions.
Vervain is used in money and prosperity spells. If the herb is buried in the garden or placed in the house for example, wealth will flow and plants will thrive.
Fun Folk Fact - It is to be believed to remain chaste for long periods of time, rise before the Sun on the first day of the New Moon. Gather vervain (still before sunrise), press out its juice, and drink it down. According to ancient instructions, it will cause you to lose all desire for sex for seven years.
When placed in the bed, hung around the neck, or made into an infusion and drunk prior to sleep, no dreams will haunt you.
Vervain is also a fine healing herb. The undiluted juice of the vervain smeared on the body cures diseases and guards against future health problems. To aid in recuperation the root tied with a yard of white yarn is placed around the patient's neck. It should remain there until recovery.

Vervain~~ a tiny guide <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before making this post I didn't really know much about Vervain, except that it has a dope name. {vervain can be consumed, but please avoid consumption if you have any sort of kidney problems, as vervain can irritate or worsen kidney conditions.}
Folk Names~ common verbena, wild verbena, simpler's joy, holy herb, enchanter's plant, mosquito plant, wild hyssop, Indian hyssop, blue vervain, juno's tears, pigeon's grass, pigeonweed, and herb of the cross
Gender~ Feminine
Planet~ Venus
Element~ Earth
Properties~ Relaxation, love, healing, protection, Anti microbial, Purification.
Because of Vervains protection and purification properties, it can be used to cleans spiritual places and alters. weather as charms or burned as an incense. you can also sprinkle it around your house to protect it from evil spirits {make sure it wont harm your natural wildlife.}
Many roman solders would war vervain in satchels for Protection in battle, so why not follow their lead and do the same.
From what i can tell, the most popular use of Vervain, is as a tea. It can be used for aiding in astral, or divination work. An added bonus of drinking this tea, is that it can aid digestive issues. all the way from toothaches to ulcers! plus with some honey added!!! double antimicrobial tea lol.
Vervain has been used in both witchcraft and anti witchcraft spells. ironic right. It was well loved by the church, as a holy plant, but was also frequently used by pagans as a spiritual healing and protection herb.
Due to its protective nature, a pinch of this with some motherwort would be a great addition to an evil eye warding charm. or just any evil warding charms or spells.
It used to be believed that the undiluted? or unfiltered juice? they believed the juice could grant wishes. This lead to it being used in love spells, success spells, ect.
A good use for vervain is in a purification bath! dribble some vervain oil in your bath with some Epsom salt and relax!

Draco took a deep breath.
The bell chimed as he pushed the door open.
“Hi, welcome to— Oh, Malfoy!” Potter stared at him in shock from where he stood arranging flowers.
“Hullo.” Draco looked around at the brilliant clusters of flowers and greenery seemingly growing everywhere along the all glass walls, which showcased even more flowers and plants outside, along with a sizable greenhouse in the near distance.
He had to admit—Potter’s flower shop really was quite gorgeous.
“Sorry, I’m just surprised to see you,” said Potter after shaking himself from his stupor. “How can I help?”
“I’d like a small bouquet for my bedside table,” said Draco.
Potter wiped his hands on a towel. “I can do that. Are there any specific flowers or colours you have in mind?”
“Er, that.” Draco pointed at the nearest flower, because no, he did not have anything in mind—he’d only come after stewing over Potter’s whole spiel about him the other day.
Of all the things he’d thought about Potter after the war, he’d never once even imagined that Potter had, well, wanted to be friends.
Odd how fate worked.
“…This?” asked Potter. “The Venus Flytrap? Are you sure?”
Draco took a good look at the flower he’d pointed at for the first time and his whole body visibly cringed away. “Oh, Merlin, no,” he burst out.
Potter laughed. “I can pick something out for you if you don’t have anything in mind.”
Draco immediately agreed, lest he end up embarrassing himself once again, and in return, he got to watch a stunning bouquet come together in Potter’s hands like magic as a variety of flowers floated towards him, all the stems neatly trimmed just so by flying sterling scissors.
“What do you think?”
The small bouquet floated towards Draco. Magnificent, white magnolias shone as the centrepiece, adorned by light pink and baby blue clusters of tiny flowers. Sprigs of green interspersed the elegant flowers, and on the outside of the bouquet, larger leaves artfully surrounded it like the frame displaying a masterpiece.
Something in Draco’s heart stirred.
For a bouquet made for him by Potter, it looked much more…charming than he’d thought it would. He’d thought Potter would pick bold colours, scarlet reds and blacks, but this….
This was elegant, classy.
Beautiful.
“I arranged it based on colours and meanings that remind me of you,” said Potter. “It’s magnolia, verbena, sweet alyssum, eucalyptus, and myrtle leaves. If there’s anything you don’t like or you want to add, I can change it.”
Draco blinked in surprise—he hadn’t expected Potter to put that much thought into the bouquet.
“No…,” he murmured after a moment. A small smile graced on his lips. “It’s perfect.”

The Venus of Salò by Ben Pastor

The Venus of Salò
By Ben Pastor
Bitter Lemon Press
Publication Date: 23 May 2024
The Venus of Salò is the latest and the eighth novel in the Colonel Martin Bora series, the most recent of which was The Night of Shooting Stars in 2020. The Martin Bora series written by Ben Pastor is comprised of a total of 11 books, which were released in Italy between the years 1999 and 2015. Ben Pastor is actually the pen name of a famous Italian author named Maria Volpi Verbena. Born in Rome, she now has dual citizenship and lives and works as a teacher in the United States.
This was the first novel I had read featuring Martin Bora and while there are references to his previous exploits, particularly on the Russian front, the characters in this story aside from Bora appear specific to the novel. They comprise of a combination of real historical figures and fictional characters.
The story sees Martin Bora arrive in the fascist Republic of Salò on Lake Garda in October 1944, six months before the end of the war in Europe. This was a very turbulent time in the history of Northern Italy as the once captured Mussolini has been rescued by the Germans from his mountain prison and restored him to power in the north of the country. While the German occupiers ruled through violence and the aid of the local Fascists, official and unofficial armed bands would roam arresting suspected partisans, members of the Resistance and terrorising the local population. During this time, Salo‘s grand villas by Lake Garda are used by Mussolini, the Gestapo and the SS. When a valuable painting, the Venus of Salò goes missing from such a residence, Bora is tasked with the investigation into the theft of the work of art, and it's recovery. A pattern of mystery develops when several attractive women are found dead, apparently but perhaps not by their own hands.
The investigation sees Bora mingle with a range of Italians whose allegiences can vary quite substantially as well as German occupiers from whom he has his own secrets to preserve.  Along the way finds himself mistrusted by nearlt everyone, yet also falls in love while at risk of capture from Slavic partisans.
Ben Pastor's astute reading of historical settings emerges strongly through this story providing a multifaceted crime novel which gives the reader a real flavour for the chaos and paranoia of this period while on a human level, they route for Bora to emerge from the situation unscathed.
The blurb:
October 1944, in the so-called Republic of Salò, the last fascist stronghold in Italy. After months of ferocious fighting on the Gothic Line, Colonel Martin Bora of the Wehrmacht must investigate the theft of a precious painting of Venus by Titian, stolen with uncanny ease from a local residence. While Bora’s inquiry proceeds among many difficulties, the discovery of three dead bodies throws an even more sinister light on the scene. The victims are female, very beautiful, apparently dead by their own hand but in fact elegantly murdered.

Naamah - Part 2
Naamah has long enjoyed a reputation as one of the most sensual and virtuous Demonesses of sacred sexuality. She has even been depicted within fictional literary works such as the novel Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey as a gracious divine mother goddess, inspiring within Her children passion, desire, and an appreciation of sexual pleasure. This portrayal of Naamah is rather accurate as She is a goddess to whom all matters of human sexuality are sacred gifts. One is reminded of the line delivered by the Great Goddess of Wicca in which She says, “all acts of love and pleasure are my rituals”. This is perhaps a perfect sentiment for Naamah. Those who seek Her mysteries should bear in mind that to appreciate the joys of the flesh is to pay homage to Naamah.
