Akito muttered to himself as he tried styling his hair a bit more elegantly. He had a date at a restaurant with you today and he prefered to look properly on it.

He was fully focused on his hair, getting a bit annoyed... he let our so many curses, even Ena came to his room and gave him instecutions just so he could shut up! But despite her tips... he had that one annoying hair strand that he couldn't get a hang of...

He finally decided to just look up some tutorials on internet, when he noticed the time... it was half an hour after the time you agreed to meet! And the amount of messages he got from you only told him how pissed you could be now...

He decided to drop his tries at calming the strand and just get to you as soon as he could, hoping that you were still there... you didn't leave this place yet, right? At least you haven't texted him about it...

He tried not to run to not sweat in his suit, so he settled on quick walk. When he arrived he noticed you getting up from a bench, clearly disappointed and about to leave, and he couldn't blame you for it...

"I'm sorry... I... I had a little problem."

He points at his hair strand as soon as he walked up to you, and you couldn't help but chuckle. He was dressed formally but that strand was ruining everything about this style!

"Hehe~ You really did. You could've asked me, I would've helped you..."

"I guess I will next time... you look beautiful, thank you for waiting for me... let's catch up, alright? My treat. And we can go to mall after it..."

Toya actually wasn't late, he'd be even 5 or 10 minutes early in this tempo so he walked calmly. It was when he was walking past some granny who was clearly struggling and he couldn't just walk past without caring...

And that's how it started... it turned out the older lady had a problem with getting 2 bags up to 4th floor, so of course he helped. And after he did that? She offered him some cookies, cup of coffee and even a small chat... she was so nice and chatty he couldn't just say he needs to go...

So thinking he has the time, he accepted it and didn't even realize it was half an hour that passed untill he looked at his phone, and finally excused himself.

"<I'm aware I'm running late, please wait just 10 more minutes for me, I'll be there soon and explain everything to you.>"

He texted you in a hurry as he picked up his peace and quickly walked towards location of your date.

When he finally arrived, he was just a little bit out of breath but quickly sat down next to you and as soon as he catched his breath, he explained everything to you.

And honestly, how can you even be mad at someone as pure as him? He just wanted to help person in need after all... sure, it's still 30 minutes delay but just this time, maybe he can be forgiven for that...

He could feel his heart sinking and he knew all of that is his fault alone. So he got up quickly and ran straight towards your house.

After around 10 minutes since Tsukasa's text, you heard a knock on your door, so you of course went to open, just for flowers and chocolates to be showed into your face when you did.

"Please forgive me... I wanted to look my best and... I had hard time deciding..."

"You're always looking your best... you could've just came..."

"I know, I should. And I'm really sorry that I didn't! Please let me take you out on a date... this time I'll be an hour early."

He had desperate look in his eyes as he tried to convince you to give him just one last chance... but whether you give him this chance or not, is only up to you! I mean... he does assure you plenty of times to set multiple alarms next time just in case... maybe he'll indeed do better from now on?

Rui hummed gentle tune to himself while he was working on a robot. He was fully focused but he forgot to mute his phone... so he kept hearing notifications in the background but ignored it, thinking it's Tsukasa having spider under his bed again... and that could wait a little bit~

But when notifications became too much, he finally checked it and his face immidietly turned to pure shock and nervousness when he noticed it's his partner... and it hit him, he forgot about the date! He quickly opened your texts and rushes to respond while he got dressed.

"<We can cancel it I guess...>"

"<Nononono!! I'm coming now, I'm so sorry for making you wait! Please give me 5 more minutes, I promise to run!>"

At this point, he was panicking, he just grabbed essential things and of course little gift he prepared for you, and ran out of his house.

When he arrives, you were just sitting on a bench with head in your hands, obviously disappointed and it was obvious he hurt your feelings. Seeing that, he immidietly rushed to you and wrapped his arms around you and caressing your back.

"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry... It won't happen again, I promise..."

He could only wrap his arms around you tighter and he tried fighting the tears himself, realization of him driving you to this point finally hitting him. But now, he'll do his best to catch up for his mistake and make this date one to remember.

Shinonome Akito doesn't and hasn't loved.

He adores and loves his mother of course, and she reciprocates full heartedly. Him and Ena may constantly argue but they both know very well that they'd die for each other. But in an romantic context he's absolutely repulsed.

Akito doesn't want it. Music is above everything and everyone. Relationships can't compare to the fleeting moments of the spotlight during a show—nor the exhilarating satisfaction of noticing improvement after excruciating hours of practice.

It's such an ugly concept too. His father only hurts his sister, almost singlehandedly ruining her art career and being the sole reason she can't believe in herself anymore— all while justifying his actions with the excuse of love.

Akito doesn't want love either. The only enticing desire that ever came to visit him were self improvement. It's a satisfactory way of living. Unlike others he never suffered from pining for another nor struggling to pick up the pieces of his own heart— it can't happen if he doesn't open it up to anyone at all.

It was futile thought, no matter how much he tried to follow that philosophy, or how long he's been able to abide by it— because right next to him lies the disruption in his peace.

Sunlight bleeds through the curtains, illuminating your sleeping expression, Akito observes the gentle rise of your chest, entranced with your gentle breathing.

Romance is stupid. So is love, trivial and useless, if it hurt his family then why should he bother luxuriating in it. It's foolish, an utter waste of time, something only an idiot would bother pursuing.

Yet he finds himself here, remaining in bed just to stare at someone, despite the fatigue itching behind his eyes.

Even with your hair in a mess and your face lazily squished against a pillow, it's one of the most ethereal sights he's ever laid his eyes on. A sight only for him. Akito always adores how you look no matter what, but something about seeing you at full peace makes him smile a bit harder.

He hated it, loathed how you were the bane of his existence, the fault in his once flawless discipline. Akito always prioritises practice. He doesn't spend money unless it was for the sake of his performances. And he abides his strict sleep schedule constantly.

But here he is, hours past the time he usually wakes up, admiring the person he's probably spent almost tens of thousands of yen on, even if there's a bit of drool accumulating on their bottom lip.

Akito can go on about how much he hates you. Ever since you stepped into his life, he found himself skipping practice to hang out with you. Prize money went to buying you your favourite books, and the time reserved for picking out song lists went to binging all of your show recommendations. One of his solo shows were entirely forgot by him; all because he felt the urge to blurt out his feelings for you.

You're a flaw. A weakness. A falter in what he calls control.

Initially, he thought he lost it. With how he was constantly reminded of his infinite adoration for you, it didn't take long to accept.

Every detail of you is imprinted in his mind. Your rambles sooth his stress; you could be complaining about someone and it'd still be music to his ears. The way you express yourself is so sweet to him, as smooth as honey and saccharine like the summer air. Your touch is warm, a comforting spring night that flushes his face red every single time.

Being loved was just as addictive. No one's ever bought him flowers, or written him poetry or little love notes during class. He'd never kissed someone until you, nor laughed so hard until he gasped for air.

Through half lidded eyes he notices movement in your body, with a yawn your arms reach out to Akito, though not quite enough to pull him closer. He obliges to your motions, muscular arms wrapping around you as he plants a kiss on your forehead.

"Mornin'."

You respond with incoherent murmurs, burying your face into his warm chest, pressing against his now racing heartbeat. He stifles a laugh after seeing your reaction, patting your head.

A glimpse at the time and he knows he should probably go home soon. His mum must be worried after he stormed out of the house late at night, almost breaking down from hearing another argument invade the comfort of his room.

"I need to go." Raspy and careful, he whispers into your ear. "I'll see you at school." His movements halt as you cling onto his wrist.

"Stay. Please."

As if second nature Akito complies. His body obeys before he can even process your words mentally, returning to your initial position with him. He takes it as an opportunity to throw your blanket back onto you.

"Are you sure...? Didn't you have a morning shift today?"

"I wanna stay here with you."

And I would stay here with you forever, if I could. "I'll be here for as long as you'd like then." Another kiss. This time on your cheek.

"Can't go to work anyways." He asks why, mumbling with his face against your neck. "'m sick."

Akito withdraws. "Really?" Urgency wards off lethargy. Was he out of it? He didn't notice you cough or sneeze, and your breathing seemed stable too.

You nod, wearily. "Yeah. Lovesick." Akito flicks your forehead, almost instantaneously.

He ignores your complaints. "Idiot. Don't worry me again." He scolds you as if a smile wasn't tugging at his lips. "C'mon, sleep more. We stayed up late last night."

"Worry about yourself more. You literally carried me to my room because I fell asleep on the couch."

He shrugs it off. "You're not heavy."

In return, you scoff. "Still would've been more convenient to sleep there."

"You say that as if I wouldn't shoulder the weight of the world for your sake." His lithe finger poke your cheek. "One more hour. Sleep just that and I'll buy you lunch later."

"As if you ever let me pay."

Akito shrugs again, he'd do anything for you, that included making sure your wallet was never empty. His father was rich, might as well make the most of it even if he loathes him. "Bookstore as well, then."

You give in, surrendering to his deal. "Fine. Since you're so insistent."

And so he grins at his victory, tucking you in again and joining you. He intertwines his fingers with yours, calloused thumb stroking your knuckles as he whispers sweet nothings into your ear. Akito feels so relax that it finds it unsettling, it's as if he never broke down from hearing his family argue— as if said struggles never existed in the first place.

Love is still poison to Akito, only you seem to make it appear so intoxicating— if it's you he'll allow himself to indulge in said venom, even if it puts his fragile heart at risk.

if you figure it out tho , hed gladly accept any ticket you give him. doesnt matter if general or backstage access — your performances are moments that he holds close to him , outside of RAD WEEKEND.

What you were standing in front of was a claw machine filled with various plush animals who were too cute for your eyes!

Each animal in the claw machine reminded you of some of your friends. Like how this pink cat reminded you of Mizuki, as it is as adorable as Mizuki is! Or how a smaller orange sparrow next to it reminds you of Ena. Since a sparrow may be small but it is loud

As Mafuyu was standing right beside you looking at the plushies you were telling her about.

"They're just normal plushies.. I don't see anything special about them."

"Fuyu~!!! Don't be like tha-"

"Besides, I still think you're way more cute than the soft toys."

Mafuyu stated bluntly as she continued staring at the plushies to see how they are specially cute. You were lucky she didn't glance at you with how pink your face was.

You knew Mafuyu was blunt but you didn't expect her to outright flirt with you just like that! Although you did enjoy the compliment since it was rare to see Mafuyu compliment you without doing anything.

As you quickly jumped on Mafuyu giving her a hug. Although it was a bit awkward since Mafuyu didn't return the hug back. You could feel her heart beating a little faster.

You let go of the hug and picked up the rest of the plushies that were still inside the door. You examined each of them, looking at their cute faces before putting them inside your bag except for one.

"Why didn't you put that inside the bag too..?"

"Do you see anything you like?" You call over your shoulder, turning your attention away from the sweatshirts in front of you.

Airi stands by several dresses, scrutinising them. The two of you decided to go out shopping together, as you felt like your wardrobe was lacking. Airi was eager to help, confident in her sense of style that she can get you something nice, as well as something for herself.

Her brow creases in thought and she stops in front of one particular dress.

"C'mere for a sec," she calls back to you, and you walk over. Airi steps to the side, gesturing to the dress with a furrowed brow.

"Have I worn this before?" She asks. "I mean, I doubt you'd know, but still. It feels so familiar, but I also feel like I've never seen it before."

You squint at the dress. That's right... you recognise it, don't you?

"You wore that in the trained version of your Re-tie Friendship card, didn't you?" You comment quietly. "I liked that one, it was pretty."

Airi goes quiet for a few moments. You catch a befuddled look on her face out of the corner of your eye. "...Excuse me? What's a 'Re-tie Friendship card'...?"

You spin to face her, eyes wide. "Eh? It was your third focus event. Don't you remember it?"

Her confusion only grows. "What on earth are you saying? No, I don't remember it."

Your eyes lock for a brief period of time, the two of you studying each other for a single hint of what the other was talking about. Then, it hits you.

"Oh!" You gasp. "You didn't know about the whole game thing...? I thought everybody knew, but we weren't supposed to talk about it."

The fact of your entire life being a simple game was one you've always been aware of. You had never tried to bring it up to anyone else, or research it before. It had never occurred to you - it was as obvious a fact as saying "the sky is blue".

Airi shakes her head, placing a hand on her temples. "You're making no sense! What game thing?"

You open your mouth to respond, but you hesitate. Should you really elaborate on what you mean? Maybe it's for the best that you don't tell Airi about your shared existence within a game. It might be a bit much to take in all at once.

Maybe another time.

You smile brightly and shake your head. "Oh, you know what? I just realised, I was thinking of something else. Oopsies! Ignore me."

"...Right." Confusion and slight frustration still lingers on Airi's face, but she sighs and shakes her head. You're probably just referencing something from some game you like, right? Maybe she should look into it later, to understand what you just said to her.

Airi's gaze drifts back to the dress once more. That feeling of déjà vu still hovers in the recesses of her mind when she gazes at it, and it's unsettling. Maybe she should look for something different to wear.

"I had the strangest dream last night," Haruka comments, staring at the sandwich in her hands thoughtfully. The sun shines down on you both as you sit on a warm, grassy hill on a red-and-white checkered blanket.

You beam brightly, head tilted curiously. You swallow the bite of food in your mouth. "Oh? What happened?"

"I was dancing to a song I've never heard before. It was in a completely different style than we usually dance to as well, it was quite mellow and calm. I was dancing with a few other people too... Kohane, Ichika, and two other people I didn't recognise... a girl with grey-ish green hair, and a boy with ginger hair."

Haruka shakes her head. "How strange. And the weirdest part was, when I woke up, I remember thinking 'Ah, another one of those dreams'. I haven't dreamt of anything like that before."

She takes a thoughtful bite of her sandwich.

You can't help laughing a little at her bizarre dream. "I always have those dreams! The people who play this game like to make us dance with the other characters. It's quite fun, I like trying to think of what kind of person makes me dance to a certain song with certain people."

You tap your chin curiously. "Perhaps they like to think of me and the others in a romantic relationship? Perhaps they like to think of a different scenario where we are in a band together? Perhaps they feel romantically towards me? It's so interesting."

You chuckle to yourself once more, taking another bite of food. Goodness, it's so tasty. The work the two of you put together to create this whole picnic really paid off! You were especially looking forward to trying those cupcakes, you put a little extra love into each of them! In particular, you-

"Love, what game? What- What are you talking about?"

Haruka's voice snaps you out of your thoughts. Her gaze is full of confusion and concern for you. Her grip on her sandwich has gotten just a little tighter.

You simply gaze back at her as if it's all perfectly normal. "The game we're in. You didn't know?"

Silence hangs in the air. Haruka's gaze shifts around, landing on you for a moment or two before looking away.

Eventually, she clears her throat and nods, deciding to play along. "Right! Of course, I remember now. How could I have forgotten?"

Your joke had unsettled her a little, but she decides to just shake it off. That's all it was, anyway. You're just joking, aren't you?

Get Intel Simics Simulator Training to The Master Threading

Virtual platforms are compute-intensive, thus using several host cores to speed them is obvious. Multiple host cores may be used to perform a simulation at various granularity levels in parallel using the Intel Simics Simulator. Intel will examine a single device model utilizing threading to accelerate the simulator in this blog article. This is a high-level explanation of “workshop-02” threading in the Intel Simics Simulator Training Package. Target System

Parallelizing a computing accelerator subsystem with numerous parallel compute units is their goal. In addition to compute units, a control unit starts and waits for tasks to finish. Software on a processor sets up accelerator memory descriptors and interacts with compute unit and control unit control registers.

Job Structure

The computing accelerator runs tasks from start to finish before accepting new ones. Each task has a serial setup phase, when software creates work descriptors and the control unit starts computing, a parallel compute phase, and a collection phase. According to virtual platform software and hardware, all computing units execute concurrently throughout the computation phase. Work virtual execution duration relies on data amount and should not alter independent of virtual platform operation.

This is easiest to simulate in serial mode, where a host thread operates each compute unit. This is not efficient for this example, but it is durable and, most importantly, straightforward to model. How can this be parallelized?

Standard Simulator Parallelism

Parallelizing a simulation using Intel Simics Simulator works practically easily on any virtual platform. Parallelizing simulated machines in a virtual network is the simplest model technique. Similar to establishing many virtual simulator instances inside a single simulator session. Each machine (or target) operates serially in parallel with other internally serial simulations. Its simplicity in modeling makes this parallelism method appealing. It involves eliminating process-global data (global variables). No two execution threads may access simulation object data concurrently. This was the first sort of parallelism presented in the Intel Simics Simulator over 15 years ago, a simple step from the serial simulator.

This doesn’t help since all computing units are on one target computer. Let CPU cores execute in parallel while serializing devices for enhanced parallelism. This works well for parallel software tasks, as explained in a recent blog on threading on the basic RISC-V virtual architecture.

This paradigm requires parallelism and genuine concurrency, making processor core and memory simulation implementation more complicated. Left unchanged, device models operate like serial simulations.

Unless Intel make a device a “processor” by implementing the simulator processor API, this doesn’t assist with device models. That’s probably excessive and complex.

Actual Details

To parallelize device models, you need further information about the Intel Simics Simulator threading model. The simulator employs “thread domains” to describe parallelism in a single target system. Simulation objects that assume serial execution are placed in a pseudo-serial universe on each target. Serial world code is executed by one thread at a time.

In thread domains outside pseudo-serial, only “thread-aware” objects are permitted. Thread-aware processor cores, interrupt controller models, per-core timers, and memory-management units are common. Simple device types like the computing unit prefer not to since it’s more work.

Thread parallelization

Most software-compute unit interaction does not need parallelization. Software writes and reads configuration and status registers, inexpensive operations without parallelization. A modest local device model remedy is to thread out just the main computing process.

Serial and threaded cases execute compute kernel code on a work buffer similarly. The compute kernel runs in the device model’s buffer on the main simulation thread in serial mode. Threaded offload throws computational work onto a thread “on the side” with a work buffer outside the device model. The overhead of reading and writing words from memory is avoided by constantly using a work buffer.

For most accelerator models, it’s trivial to read all the data from memory to a buffer, calculate, and publish the results. Virtual platforms may read or write arbitrarily huge amounts of memory in a single atomic simulation step. Perhaps not precisely what a hardware direct memory access (DMA) operation looks like, but it seldom matters.

Remember that compute threads are host operating system threads generated for concurrent work. Simulation execution threads handled by the simulator core scheduler execute thread domain simulation work. The host threads are not devoted to thread domains.

Threading and Virtual Platform Semantics

Simulation semantics must be considered while implementing a threaded compute kernel. The controller device must tell software whether the compute activity is idle and ready for a new task, processing, or done. Issue a completion interrupt too.

Serial execution makes this simple. Software sees the status update depending on the accelerator’s task size: a delay is calculated and a timed event is delivered. The real work might be done at the start or finish. It is synchronous on the main execution thread with code handling completion.Image Credit To Intel

In a threaded paradigm, computation is asynchronous to the main simulator thread. Compute work completion time is unknown in advance. One solution is to update the model’s visible state when the computation finishes. This makes the simulation non-deterministic and unlike serial.

Better still, start the compute activity immediately and submit an event using the same virtual time as in the serial instance. If the compute thread has not completed by the time the event is triggered, the completion event handler must wait while blocking simulation progress.

A “done flag” is needed to indicate calculation status. Thread-safe access to this flag is the only aspect of the setup that involves thread programming. Everything else is basic serial code.

Practical Mandelbrot Computation

The Intel Simics Simulator Public Release Training package includes the “workshop-02” example that uses this threading paradigm. It includes entire source code and instructions for running and evaluating compute accelerator improvements, including threading.
