Violet Harmon's Makeup, an Overview & Analysis
Throughout American Horror Story Violet wears very minimal and natural-looking makeup. She wears a little more in specific scenes, with mascara, a bit of blush, and an occasional lip gloss or stain.
Here are some photo examples:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eryn Krueger Mekash, the makeup artist for season one of American Horror Story, did a few interviews in 2011 about the makeup she used on Glee, including exact makeup products!
Since these interviews are from 2011, it's safe to assume that these products/techniques were also used on AHS's actors!
Eryn mentioned using lip stains, specifically the Tarte Lip Stain in Envy while filming Glee. It's likely that she used some sort of lip stain on Taissa in the photos above, so this could be an exact product used on Taissa!
In a different interview from late 2011, she talks about using the Stila Convertible Color cream blushes on Glee actors. Luckily, these blushes are still available to purchase today! For shades she might have used on Taissa, I think Lillium (nude pink color) suits Vi the best.
Eryn also mentioned using Covergirl's LashBlast Volume Blasting Mascara in Black on actress Lea Michelle while filming Glee. She said she would only apply it to the top lashes, which is the same technique she used on Taissa. And for lips, she would use Korres Lip Butter in Pomegranate or Smith’s Rosebud Salve.
All of these products are still available to buy online, and are *fairly* inexpensive!
Tumblr media
In Halloween: Part 1, while Violet is doing Addy's makeup, you can see some of the products she is using!
It's hard to identify most of these products since the coloring for Murder House is sooo dark, but there are a couple of bright pink blushes and a blue/purple eyeshadow palette.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tips on how to replicate Violet's makeup:
Using info from the interviews with Taissa's makeup artist, we sort of know the types of products Violet would use, including:
soft pink cream blushes
lip stain and tinted lip balm
mascara (only applied to the top lashes)
curled lashes and slightly filled in brows
Taissa's makeup artist also mentioned using skin tints on actors to give a more "youthful look", which could be what she used for Violet's base! She also wore a very neutral brown eyeshadow in certain scenes.
I also a found couple Violet-inspired makeup tutorials on YouTube that you could follow! Here are the links :)

I have to credit @harmonaesthetic for finding the articles and interviews about the Murder House makeup artist! They did a deep dive into Violet's makeup throughout the show, and if you haven't seen their post, I definitely recommend checking it out! (it's linked here <3)
I love making analysis posts, so hopefully you enjoyed this <3! I hope this could help a little bit, thanks for reading :)

hello thank you for asking i am very flattered. i would be most honoured to give some advice that i am most certainly unqualified to give!!
ok advice 1: hey why does everyone keep telling me to read and write a lot
i think this is the most commonly given advice. i have always found it true but incomplete, because on the face of it this kind of focuses a little too much on volume. which by itself just isn't going to do that much for you, or it will, but it'll do it very slowly and ineffectively, because the second part of this advice i don't see nearly as much (and the part that makes it work for me) is that after you read or write something you need to do The Why Interrogation. what are you looking for?
when you like something, why do you like it? not just in terms of copying and learning an author's stylistic quirks or techniques, but in a more abstract way:
is it the narrative? that the premise is novel, that the progression of the story is unexpected and thrilling, that the stakes are high?
is it the characters? what is it about them? do they have compelling backgrounds? does the author spend a lot of time in their heads? is the pov internal in a way that lets you experience the story from their shoes? does their biased narration tell you more about them? or is it a detached narration that lets you see the characters in a way they don't see themselves, so the gap is intriguing?
is it the telling? maybe the prose is beautiful - what makes it so? sentence structure? unconventional use of grammar and punctuation? elegant, sophisticated vocabulary? or maybe the dialogue is sharp and human so conversation flows naturally. is the story paced carefully? does the author linger more in certain moments?
the same exercise is useful for what ISN'T working.
if your attention is drifting, what's making it drift?
purple prose? clumsy prose?
does the narration drag?
do the characters feel stagnant, and why?
plot doesn't make any sense?
maybe this sounds obvious, but imo it's a crucial piece of the advice that i just don't see as much because people tend to focus on volume of works consumed/created. the reflection and analysis is what makes that volume useful, otherwise you're just churning through content. the question should always be why, why, why. why did that work, why didn't it work, why did i like this, why does it suck. then proceed to: if i were doing this, how could i make it work?
advice 2: don't forget that all the words you need already exist.
this is more subjective advice. this is something that works for me personally. so ymmv. have you ever tried magnet poetry? you should try magnet poetry.
i always see writing as kind of a puzzle. if i have an idea in my head, the idea exists. the job is actually a translation exercise: how do i express the thing in my head as a thing other people can see? in this way it's like visual art, but it's also not like visual art at all. in visual art you choose where all the lines and colours go, completely freely. any line you draw is a brand new line.
in language, all your parts already exist. all the words already exist. (you can make new ones if you want but that's a whole different thing.) you are plucking symbols out of a collective understanding. it is like lego. all you are doing is selecting the most effective pieces and placing them in order. so for me, i am simply trying to find the 'right' words to fit each context as best as possible. it becomes a game of arrangement, which determines your expression.
then syntax and punctuation become your rhythm, which is how you determine flow. sentence length, word length, whether you omit words or use more, whether you want to be a bit unconventional. character also plays into this - i am not writing an advice 3 because i am getting self conscious but advice 3 would have been consistency of voice.
so i would prioritise vocabulary and timing. what are you trying to say (which words do you pick) and how do you want the reader to experience your words, how do you want the words to feel and sound (how will you pace your sentences)? remembering that all the parts are already there. it is the world's biggest game of magnet poetry.
advice 3 which doesn't exist: keep your voice consistent.
this advice doesn't exist. im not writing this i got embarrassed and stopped at 2. but if i did write this it would say, remember who you are. (remember who is writing your story. are you a character or are you god? remember how much you know. remember which feelings you have access to.)

tagged by @atthecenterofeverything to list 10 books im planning to read next yayyyyy. i actually revise my tbr in my head every five seconds so this is vibes based and i make no promises <3
Doctor Glas by Hjalmar Söderberg -- i reread Love in the Time of Cholera recently and discovered i disagree with my taste at the age of 16 💔 but i love reading about fictional doctors so ive been tearing thru some of those and this is next on the stack
Necropolis by Basil Copper -- also teed up from ^ this batch
Le Berceau des dominations - Anthropologie de l'inceste par Dorothée Dussy -- recced by a friend, looks really great even though i SAID i need to read more fiction in french bc it really is better practice for variety of phrasing lol
The Purchase of Intimacy by Viviana A. Zelizer -- also recced by a friend, has been on my mental tbr for a few months, related to some things ive been chewing on lately
Querelle de Brest par Jean Genet -- I loved the fassbinder adaptation the only question is when will i be brave (patient) enough to tackle genet in french lol
L'art et la matière: Les artisans, les architectes et la technique, 1770–1830 par Valérie Nègre -- nobody look at meeee it's not fiction again but i read either one book or multiple papers by paola bertucci about the contemporaneous formation of the categories of artiste vs artisan vs savant & that one focusses more on the intellectual production side but this one i think is more what i want in terms of. i like to look at buildings and understand why they look how they look
Kara Kitap by Orhan Pamuk -- just been on my list for a hot minute, i loved my name is red
Un enfant à l'asile. Vie de Paul Taesch par Anatole Le Bras -- i think this is going to be bad tbh but it's 19th century child in an asylum in the rare case in which the author isn't having to 100% read the archive backward so i rly can't resist
Madness, Architecture and the Built Environment: Psychiatric Spaces in Historical Context (edited vol.) -- edited volumes are rarely very good & i think the scope is too wide here but the topic is one ive been meaning to get more granular on since i read sun-young park on the architecture of paris deaf-blind institutes so i'm at least going to use it to get more oriented in this sub sub field of lit
Poisoned Eden: Cholera Epidemics, State-Building, and the Problem of Public Health in Tucumán, Argentina, 1865-1908 by Carlos S. Dimas -- the paris cholera epidemics following the 1830 and 1848 revolutions are so rich for historical analysis and i stumbled across this book recently working with some of the overlapping public health–politics concerns in argentina, looks great can't wait
i have noooo idea who's already done this or who wants to lol but if you see this please do it and tag me i get so many reading recs off random tumblr posts xx

I'll likely make a more in depth post once I've read through all the translated light novels but
Hello Apothecary Diaries fans I am in volume 8 and would like to reassure you about the choking scene from volume 5
Spoilers under the cut!
Okay so there's a scene at the end of volume 5 (the manga is not there yet) that many have interpreted as sexual assault. For the sake of those sensitive to such topics, I'm going to give a light on spoilers version of the scene and then an in depth analysis. Personally, I do not view the scene as sexual assault, but it is very forceful and carries A LOT of very sad subtext. You'll understand what I'm getting at in the more depth part.
So, the general gist of the choking scene.
Maomao and Jinshi are in the garden to escape a banquet. They talk for a bit about a very scary incident that occurred that day (thankfully nobody was killed) and share casual conversation. Then Jinshi brings up that they're at this banquet to find him a wife. I won't spoil the specifics, but fyi Maomao has been wearing an accessory this whole time that loudly announces (to everyone except herself, of course) that She's The Favorite™. Despite how obvious Jinshi has been with his intentions, including holding her hand and combing his other fingers through her hair while mentioning the whole wife thing, Maomao evades him while thinking "I'm not capable of love". So, she tries to dodge him by offering up another woman. This is what causes Jinshi to snap and choke her, as well as hold one of her arms behind her back to stop her from fighting back.
As I later learned, part of this scene was mistranslated, with the additional scene art causing further misunderstanding. What happens next is that Jinshi supposedly moves his hand to another part of her neck (I believe the back) and pulls her in for a kiss while leaning his weight on her.
Maomao then remembers how she was taught sex techniques against her will be the Verdigris House women & decides to use those techniques against Jinshi. The text uses "gentle spasms", and those who understand Japanese better have indicated that what Maomao did was tongue Jinshi until he was a trembling mess beneath her. She then promptly leaves and Jinshi feels like the most pathetic man in world.
The two don't interact beyond official matters until towards the end of volume 6. Jinshi brings more rare medicine in lieu of an apology. The two talk around the wife situation again and Maomao gets tickled. It isn't until volume 7 that they have an actual conversation breakthrough.
That's my light on spoilers version of the events. Now I'll give a more in depth version, that's honestly a good chunk of my own meta-analysis around the events of volume 5.
Honestly, volume 5 is full of really interesting scenes regarding Jinshi and Maomao. This is the first volume after Jinshi has been forced back into Imperial Brother status, yet the first thing I noticed that actually changed between JinMao is how Maomao takes initiative with him now. As soon as she learns an insect plague might be on the horizon, she dives into unprompted research and delivers her findings to Jinshi. She's no longer working at the palace or for Jinshi, but she still takes on the extra burden. She also takes initiative to get Jinshi some extra sleep (though she misinterprets his desire to not sleep alone). And later in the novel, when they're in the paper makers' village, Maomao acts so cute when reapplying Jinshi's burn scar makeup. I'll let screenshots talk for me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like man. She's so cute. And I wonder, if these two didn't have to deal with social standing and imperial drama, would we get way more of them just being cute and companionable? If Maomao wasn't an unwitting member of the Who Wants To Be An Imperial Princess race, would her feelings for Jinshi have grown without so much pushing and urgency on his end?
But I digress. I think a lot of volume 5, especially once they reach their travel destination, is Maomao trying her best to keep her blinders on even though she is in the thick of imperial drama. She's especially desperate with regards to the blazingly obvious fact that a certain someone of very high status is in love with her. I think the end of chapter 6 does a very good job of driving home one of the major reasons why Maomao is reluctant to trust Jinshi's feelings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To add fuel onto this unfortunate fire is that Maomao, as an unmarried courtesan's daughter, was attacked as an infant by her mother, sought after by fucking Lakan of all people, ignored while crying as a baby, and forcibly taught sex (to the point of tears!). She also had to cover for Luomen's own eccentricities, specifically ensuring they had enough money to feed themselves. Maomao, to put it shortly, has been taught not to believe she can attain anything beyond her very simple life of being a lowly apothecary.
And then here's Jinshi who, as a prince, has been forced to grow up fast & have all his favorite things taken away from him. I think Maomao is the first time he ever wanted a person. He is, for lack of a better word, obsessed with her. I think a lot of his pushiness & tendency to be clingy with her is him desperately trying to make sure he doesn't lose her. If he makes her his wife, then, well, she can't leave.
And I think the choking scene is him finally at his breaking point. At this point, he has lavished her with gifts, been very forward sexually with her twice, and given her a new hairpin that is essentially this story's version of a promise ring. It's Maomao's repression/reluctance vs. Jinshi's desperation and so far she's winning.
But then she pushes him past his breaking point and he takes physical action against her. Maomao responds by kissing him silly.
So why don't I personally take this scene as sexual assault?
Mainly because I think the people actually guilty of sexual assault her are the Verdigris House women who forced Maomao to learn sex.
As far as I understand it, whether Maomao can actually say no to Jinshi is left up to interpretation. If we're talking on social status terms, she can't say no. But if you look at Jinshi's overall treatment of her, both before and after this scene, I very much think Maomao can say no and instead chooses to defuse the situation.
Because what isn't for interpretation, however, is Maomao's abysmal impression of what love and sex can actually be for her. So she defuses a love situation by using sex, something she herself doesn't like, and doesn't allow Jinshi to reciprocate, which leaves him feeling terrible, too.
I want to be clear. I do think Jinshi is in the wrong for physically attacking Maomao. But the sexual portion of the scene, at least to me, falls squarely on the shoulders of Maomao's fucked up backstory.
Anyway, I think I've typed for long enough. I am using the official translations of the light novel and some knowledge borrowed from other fans.

are you gonna do a hair tutorial for Kai's hair? (especially for his long hair)
Hello, thank you for the request. English is not my first language, but I hope this helps 🍊
Honestly, there is no secret.. I don't have any top secret techniques or miraculous abilities, but I can do a simple hair analysis, so no matter what style you have, you can maintain a similar appearance.
Sooo...
✨✨ How I usually draw Kai's hair tutorial lesgo ✨✨
I will use Kai's version from S1:
Tumblr media
I usually use 3 of these for bangs, instead of 5.
These 1-5 parts I consider part 1. Parts 6-9, part 2 (just extra volume).
Now let's look at the hair shapes I like to keep:
Tumblr media
Yellow and green are the same, only one is bigger than the other. I like to always keep the shape of the green. Orange is a loose, rebellious thread, I think it's charming.
I just keep in mind the point where all the strands start.
From there, we just put everything in our style. In my case, I just take out most of the volume. You can go for a more realistic or more stylistic style, but the logic will always be the same.
Here is a more "realistic" view of a haircut and a version closer to the original and stylized:
Tumblr media
I always keep in mind the point where all the strands originate and in which direction they project.
It is always a circular movement and follows some level of gravity.
Once you have the hair strands in place, you can add extra strands for a more detailed result, always following the direction in which they project.
Tumblr media
There really is no secret to this wahaha
One tip, though: Try to keep the strands roughly the same length, so you maintain the feeling of harmony. It's like a real cut, you tend to keep the strands at the same length in certain areas:
Tumblr media
It's a suggestion btw ( ╹▽╹ )..
Ok!! But how does long hair work? It depends on what length we are talking about.
Lets divide his hair into two parts, the front and the back.
If we start from a mullet, only the hair on the back of the neck grows, you keep everything and only grow that region:
Tumblr media
If we are talking about long hair at the back, the hair will start growing like this:
Tumblr media
If it's all hair, well, it just all grows:
Tumblr media
(I didn't have any hairstyle for these bangs, so, well...)
There are a lot of possibilities for haircuts, really. It's fun~
Tumblr media
And that's it. Sorry for the delay and that it was long. But I hope I've been of some help (・∀・)💦

Some people need to understand queer coding opens character identities and relationships up to a solid queer interpretation, but that doesn’t equal “this character 100% fits my headcanon and if you disagree you’re a [REDACTED]”
From a literary analysis perspective, as long as your interpretation is reasonably evidence-based it’s valid. As this is fandom, I’d add “sincere” to that since unlike an academic setting we get bad faith actors but that’s it.
So, to have a valid “interpretation” you have to do the work in good faith, and you have to be able point at the text to support your interpretation. If you can’t, or don’t want to, that’s a headcanon, and it’s totally fine.
“But this character is a lesbian she likes a girl!” There’s more to queerness than straight and gay. You could reasonably interpret a girl who likes another girl as plenty of different things:
Lesbian
Bi
Ace/aro and something else
Straight and closeted trans
Straight and lover is closeted trans
And so on.
So when you have an interpretation, someone might tell you, “I think this other thing.” The polite way to handle this if you don’t like it is to say “that’s so cool we can see different things in the ambiguity of art”. Maybe blocking each other if you dislike their interpretation that much.
That’s of course unless you both want a debate to further refine your understanding of the text or just like to argue or whatever. Which is fine! As long as it’s not overly bitter or whatever, it’s fun to discuss.
“So how do I know which interpretation is more canon than another?”
See, that’s the thing, you can’t. Canon is kind of shaky in the first place. The canon is just what’s written that’s recognized as true/correct text, not the way to understand it (and not what the author says is true, some people take Word of God as canon because it allows the following of one concrete interpretation instead of acknowledging multiple, but strictly speaking it is not). You can only interpret the canon.
For example, 4-komas bonuses of serialized manga are usually non-canon because they are jokes and not meant to be taken seriously as a part of the story’s text. That’s what canon actually is for, originally it’s to talk about which books are genuinely part of the Bible and which are to be deemed offshoots that shouldn’t be taken as a Catholic Church-endorsed religious text.
I guess that’s what gets people confused? That there’s no actual truth to imagined worlds, only what happens in the eyes of the beholder when they interact with art?
Because that’s what it means, canon often has nothing to do with who’s “actually a lesbian” short of them saying it directly. An onscreen wedding is said to “make a couple canon” precisely because there’s only so many ways you can interpret a wedding, but all that means is that the text says they’re together at a point in time. One way I can think of having a canon sexuality would be a canonical character sheet, or an omniscient narrator saying so, but everything less is basically an interpretation.
Note that interpretation obviousness can go from “that’s a stretch but I like it”, to “you only need eyes to see it”, they’re both still interpreting. Even a character talking sexuality technically only makes canon that they’re willing to say so, but that’s when critical thinking comes in.
If you hear a character say “I’m a married lesbian” and think “they’re just confused” with no evidence, you look like an idiot. You absolutely can argue which interpretation is more valid or likely by pointing out inconsistencies, stretched evidence, or that one interpretation has a higher volume of evidence/etc. This is how you avoid relativism and “nothing the text says matters” trolls.
Occam’s Razor is another way you might be tempted to try and determine whose thesis is stronger. This technique works through figuring out which interpretation requires the least amount of assumptions (saying something arbitrary is true as a basis) but it doesn’t make anything canon, or more interesting, it’s not a concrete sign of superiority. Just means it has stronger fondations.
However… your interpretation being stronger, more popular, better worded etc. or you thinking someone else’s is immoral, stupid, etc. doesn’t give you license to be a bully, to call people names, to dox them, dig up dirt to make them look worse, and so on and so forth. Thinking you’re right and they’re wrong does not make you above basic respect, politeness, or consequences. You’re not better than everyone else.
As a child, I used to think I was always right because I was logical, and I clearly made logical sense so there was no way for there to be a logical reasoning that arrived at a different conclusion. (Newsflash: Child me was very wrong! Sometimes multiple things can be equally valid! And even if they were not equal, that didn’t give me license to deride people publicly!)
Queer coding is by its nature interpretative. Coding is the author leaving hints about their characters by using a “code”. Some hints, almost everyone in your section of fandom might have the exact same interpretation about. Some hints might be dead obvious. Some hints might leave you overjoyed. Some hints you might ignore because they make you uncomfortable.
Some people will disagree with you about how they interpret the coding, or might even just state that they believe people have a right to interpret the canon however they want, even in ways you don’t like. That is normal. That is not a threat to your interpretation.
Don’t be a petty cunt about it.
Essentially,

do you have any headcanons for the reincarnations/chapter 205? :D
First off, when I read that chapter I was like... "I can't believe it's over... what a ride... BUT WHAT DID I JUST READ????"
Also, since canon only describes them as "descendants" and "a person who..." and never says "reincarnation" I don't technically think of them that way... although that is hard to do after the Obamitsu promise. My main issue with this is looking backwards; it's simply a matter of preference that I don't like thinking of Tanjiro and Nezuko as reincarnations of Sumiyoshi and Suyako (and I especially prefer to keep Yoriichi and Tanjuro as separate people), because I like the straightforward interpretation of inherited memories as something unique to this world.
So that being said!!
The modern day kids have really grown on me. : D Touko is my favorite. I have written some headcanons for them which I have tucked into fanworks that I'll link below.
--The Kamado family house was given to the Hashibira family, so Aoba still has ties there (although he doesn't live there). This is also why the Kamado boys live in the city. Theory expanded on here.
--If they are indeed reincarnations, then Kotoha was reincarnated as Aoba's mom, but she's a divorcee. Aoba's canonical younger brother has a wilder personality. I had a really nice time playing with Aoba interacting with his mom in this short fic, which also refers to the above theory and has interactions with other characters in the fallout of the blue spider lily failure.
--The Kamado family is so removed from their old charcoal past that they just FORGOT to give the oldest son a charcoal related name
--Touko inherited Zenitsu's wide range of strong emotions and expression. Although the women in their family are known for being nice and sweet, there is always what is called the "Agatsuma Demon Gene." However, it's unclear which great-grandparent this came from. There is no mention of Nezuko as a demon in any of "The Legend of Zenitsu" so Yoshiteru is convinced she was a demure girl who needed to stay out of the sunlight for health reasons. These are referred to in this collection of fanart/doodles of the Chapter 205 cast, as well as in this comic that was drawn before Volume 23 came out, so we were still under the impression that Kanata considered Touko his girlfriend (canonically, he does not, that evil flirt).
--More fun doodles of Touko with Zenitsu's expressions and Yoshiteru with Nezuko's expressions here
--Yoshiteru has Marfan Syndrome.
--This isn't so much a headcanon as an observation, but I love what Iguro being a chef and having a good luck snake emblem says about how he's been freed some his past. So I said that all at the end of this post about snake analysis as it relates to Iguro.
--I just kind love that Kiriya and Yushiro are friends???
--I don't know how I feel about the "they get together every year to do Kagura in the Breath styles" thing that was added later. It just doesn't seem to fit well with everything. First, the need for Breath technique is gone, so if Tanjiro decided to simply not teach the next generation, that would have been a fine statement. After all, they just keep the earrings in a framed box now. Second, it would imply that they all might recognize each other from having met every year. Touko would happily anticipate meeting her favorite gymnast every year, and she and Yoshiteru would both already have met Aoba plenty of times, as would Sumiyoshi, who supposedly only meets him when they are both sulking about being in trouble. Maybe they wouldn't recognize each other out of the context of being in the shrine for Kagura once a year, but those kinds of events usually take all day to set up, conduct, and then have a party afterward with lots of interaction. Plus, who was even around to pass on some of those Breaths??? And what kind of move is Thunderclap and Flash for a full Kagura dance???????? So my headcanon is that Touko has stayed home from it for the last few years, Yoshiteru has mostly just hung out with his distant cousins, Aoba's little brother is the one who has been doing it lately while Aoba has been busy as a student and then career botanist, and the dances are staged throughout the day at different times, so Flower Breath and Insect Breath are never around the same time as Thunder Breath so Yoshiteru never even encountered the girls. Also, the Corp had other survivors!! Maybe they're the ones who have been retaining most of these traditions in place of characters who did not survive to leave descendants!
Well that one turned into a rant. Anywayyyy.
--Reincarnated!?Shinobu is Giichi's babysitter and she finds him overly talkative, because irony is fun. (Also in fanart)
--Reincarnated!?Makomo is Reincarnated!?Urokodaki's granddaughter (also in the same fanart collection)
--Toujurou's dad has trouble keeping students in the kendo dojo, because bringing in KimeGaku elements is fun
--The cops take their coffee really, really sweet; it's totally loaded with sugar
Enjoy the things I linked!! They have more of my thoughts and fun with them!! : D

Do you think Gege can confirm Saturo and Suguru's relationship, will he say they loved each other or will he make a moment of them at the end of the mangá
In short, I wouldn't be surprised if Gege doesn't confirm any kind of romantic relationship between Satoru and Suguru, but if it's going to happen, I think it'll happen at the end of the manga like you suggest. I actually have a lot of thoughts on this topic, so buckle up! Unfortunately, artists rarely get the creative freedom to tell the story they want to in exactly the way they want to. Homophobic attitudes still persist and it's highly possible that Gege Akutami's superiors won't risk sales by sanctioning the unambiguous depiction of a romantic relationship between two male characters. However, they would potentially deem it more permissible at the end of the manga when it's less likely to have a significant impact on profits. It sucks, but it's the unfortunate reality of the situation.
However, I think there's an argument that Gege censored Gojō's last words to Getō as a way of reclaiming control of the narrative for himself. Jujutsu Kaisen often depicts a clash between traditional attitudes and more progressive thinking, and Gojō embodies that more than anyone else in the series.
Tumblr media
He openly criticises the higher ups that maintain the status quo, but recognises that he can't force change by taking drastic action alone. Therefore, he settles for creating a sea change slowly, playing by the rules to achieve his goals, bending them but never breaking them — and I think that's what Gege did with Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
Let's imagine that Gege wanted to tell the tragic love story between Gojō Satoru and Getō Suguru but knew he'd never be able to get it published in a mainstream shōnen manga anthology. Instead, he includes it as an intriguing B-plot in a tale about a boy and a girl cursed by love, deliberately creating heavy parallels with the main story.
Tumblr media
By doing that, he avoids having to address the exact nature of the relationship between the characters in the B-plot, because they're not the main characters. However, even though he can't explicitly address the nature of the relationship, he ensures that readers understand the gravity of it by including a scene where Satoru utters something to Suguru at the emotional climax of the volume while keeping the actual words he says a secret.
Tumblr media
It's clear to the reader from the way Suguru responds and the context of the scenes surrounding it that there is love between these two characters — it's just the type of love that's up for debate, but that's where I think it's really smart. Rather than having his work censored by editors, Gege censored it himself. By doing so, he generated a fascination with the scene among readers, perhaps drawing more attention to the relationship than if he'd included Satoru's words for everyone to see. To this day, the nature of their relationship remains one of the hottest points of discussion in the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom, and I think that speaks for itself.
So, Gege is Gojō, playing within the confines of the rules to achieve his goals, bending them but never breaking them, creating slow, meaningful change that way. But that's just my hypothesis!
Truthfully, I'm OK with their relationship remaining unconfirmed because of everything I've just said. For me, the relationship is compelling because it's implied in tiny, beautiful ways but never confirmed. I don't think it's queerbaiting because it's never been the main selling point of Jujutsu Kaisen, and Getō was already dead when the events of the main story began, so most of the relationship development is done retroactively through Hidden Inventory in order to further Gojō's story.
As I already explored in my pre-236 analysis of Gojō, until very recently Gege kept Gojō at a distance from everyone as a way of demonstrating his isolation. By keeping his eyes covered up and his cursed technique active, no one can get close to Gojō. We don't get to know how he's feeling or what he's thinking, but characters and readers still make a lot of incorrect assumptions about him — more on that here. For his relationship with Getō to be yet another thing that people speculate about, saying with absolute certainty that it's one thing or another, is kind of beautiful to me.
Of course, I'm not going to be upset if Gege *does* confirm their relationship before the end of the manga — if only because it'll shut down a certain section of the fandom that insists shippers are merely projecting romantic implications onto the subtext, as though it's possible to neatly place relationships between friends and relationships between lovers into entirely separate boxes.
Having said that, as the reaction to 236 shows, not even Gojō directly telling us how he feels is enough to prevent people from thinking they know better — so maybe even official confirmation wouldn't be enough to convince some people!
That really shouldn't matter anyway. Something I've really enjoyed over the last year is seeing more and more people come around to the idea that perhaps Gojō and Getō *were* more than friends after all, especially those people who would usually criticise others for 'ruining shōnen' with shipping. That's the slow sea change I'm talking about!
Thanks for the question, I really enjoyed thinking about this ♥

Gege Contradicted Himself, but That's What Makes 261 Perfect
Tumblr media
Gege's first author's note in jjk, made in jjk volume 1: "The other day, I saw a video of myself laughing hysterically. I was a little taken aback by how demonic I looked... I hope you enjoy that type of person's first graphic novel."
Keep this image in mind during this reading. I will com back to this.
TLDR: Yuta's character was based on love and being blessed because of it, but his nature leads him to discarding his humanity and wearing his teacher's corpse. Yuta's care for his friends lead him to discarding his humanity in order to protect them. Yuta once again proves Uraume correct: fear marks humans and holds them back, and only those who can let it go can ascend to something greater.
Yuta and Harmonious Love
This specific section is from an older analysis of Yuta in comparison to Sukuna. The original post is linked below!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sukuna represents isolation and lovelessness. Uro warned Yuta that for him to gain power and transcend, discarding love and becoming a calamity would be an inevitable step in his path. Yet, Yuta disagreed and regards himself as being blessed.
There are two main implications to Yuta's blessed distinction:
Yuta's willingness to love and be loved makes him blessed.
The use of the word "blessed" directly juxtaposes Sukuna, who is called the disgraced one.
Just after Ryu says he doesn't understand why he's blessed, Yuta continues with the plan he and his friends made to save Tsumiki.
Tumblr media
Gege uses Yuta and Rika to represent an idea of harmonious, mutual love via wedding motifs. To activate his true power where he harmonizes with Rika, Yuta dons a ring on his fourth finger, which is commonly considered the finger for a wedding band. His domain expansion has even more wedding themes that accentuate this motif.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yuta's power comes directly from his love for his friends and Rika. It's unquestionable and true; Gege uses Yuta to show an idea of true love rooted in adolescent bonds. While he and Rika were only kids when they promised to marry one another, Yuta felt so powerfully about this promise that it still affects him years later.
Uro's warning to Yuta was useless, because his true power relies on love. Yuta can't "awaken" any kind of powerup that would force his story to resemble Sukuna's or become a calamity in the same way as him. Sukuna's loveless nature directly contradicts the source of Yuta's power. Yuta will not become a calamity like Sukuna because it contradicts his story's foundation and the literal source of his power. (edit: see section below)
Uro's comments reveal that somehow, and at some point, Sukuna's growth caused him to cast away his "humanity" and become a calamity.
Yuta and Rika's love boosted her power so much that even Sukuna refers to her as the Queen of Curses, in recognition of her strength.
Uraume distinguishes a human from whatever they represent. When they acknowledge Hakari’s powerful reverse cursed technique as being above Gojo and Sukuna, Uraume no longer sees him as human. Not only is it Hakari’s rct that makes Uraume respect him, but also his willingness to sacrifice his body to fight. The ascension, or change, that Uraume describes requires both power and the will to use it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What Changed in 261
Hakari's reference to Yuta in the page above was finally addressed in 261. Yuta has that hunger to reach the heights of Gojo, or a least, we will see in 262.
The hunger that Sukuna preaches describes his own ideology of power and what it takes to be powerful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To defeat a villain, a story also has to address their ideologies. So far, Sukuna's monstrous ideology has all but won. Each of the main four in Shinjuku has abandoned their humanity, in accordance to Uraume's argument:
Maki slaughtered her family in the name of freedom.
Hakari's willingness to destroy his body and let go of fear and simply trust in his rct to fight.
Yuji's appearance slowly shifting into mirroring Sukuna (we have yet to see the outcome of this).
Yuta discarding his humanity and wearing his sensei's body in order to fight Sukuna.
Gege has taken the idea of maturation and growth, something usually positive and humane, and has flipped it. In JJK, maturation for the main four means cleaving away their humanity and letting part of themselves go in a condemning narrative about the tragedy of youth. In the first author's note, Gege describes a time when there was laughter, but all he saw was a demonic visage; there's a metaphor here about narrative perspective and duality. Growth in JJK ironically means cutting parts of yourself away. Laughter flipped to something evil, maturation flipped to becoming a monster.
The Blessed One has become a walking corpse. Has Yuta become disgraced as well?
Notes:
Original post that the first section comes from.
Those Hakari pages were bothering me for SO LONG. I hate you Gege, this was all a deliberate plot to piss me off.
I could really go on with my own ideas about how maturation really does involve consciously letting so much of yourself go, but that's not what this post is about lmao.

Brazil's particle accelerator Sirius now capable of analyzing pre‑salt rocks
Tumblr media
Scientists from the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS), in partnership with Petrobras, have developed an experimental station on the Mogno beamline of the Sirius particle accelerator in order to study samples of oil-reservoir rocks extracted from the ocean floor by the state-owned company’s probes.
The laboratory is responsible for operating Sirius—the largest and most complex scientific structure ever built in Brazil and one of the world’s most advanced synchrotron light sources.
Through advanced tomography techniques, the equipment generates three-dimensional images that simulate the interaction of rocks with fluids such as oil and gas, helping experts gain a better understanding of reservoirs and improving prospecting scenarios.
The research is the first phase of a partnership between the National Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) and Petrobras. The new station should make sample analysis considerably shorter. The next phase will seek new methods for post-processing the large volume of data generated by the scans.
