Sister and brother, Ludovica is a genius who wishes to do more than what's expected of her as a woman, specifically, to study sea sponges, and Remy is the captain of a trading ship who wishes he had his sister's (lack of) responsibilities.

So Ludovica acts on a plan just so she can fuck off to the sea to study her sponges, taking Remy's ship, crew, and first mate/best friend/gay crush, Jamis Arlesi, who Remy arranged for Ludovica to marry (this is messy and so so sad)

Unfortunately for Jamis, Ludovica is also gay opposite to her brother and has enraptured the attention of Butch Lesbian Eldritch God (you'll have to go see for yourself!). She causes so many problems ❤️ She's great

Meanwhile, Remy's side of the story is the tale of a gay man pained by his repression and so convinced he cannot find the happiness he longs for he'll just have to settle, now having to deal with his family and love and livelihood being taken away to who knows where; it all feels like a betrayal. He's so sad 😭 He's great
