#imo steve rogers was done with cap almost from the moment he defrosted. he spent 70 years in the ice and when he woke up #captain america had evolved into a legend. a symbol. a definition of who the world thought he should be #he was back to being the performing monkey #and it weighted hiim down rather than make him stronger #he saw this new rold and realized it had just as many (if not more) issues for him to stand up and fight for #and he did!#the sokovia acords #hydra infiltration and the corruption of the govt #enhanced individuals illegally locked on a raft #bucky #but every time he did what he thought was right there was someone asking why captain america was making these choices #acting illegally becoming a fugitive. acting on his own #sam became a fugitive with steve bc he agreed that was the right thing to do #his sense of morality is also so strong #he is kind and empathetic #loyal and determined #but he is not as jaded as steve #and dare I say not as short tempered #he sees the power captain america holds and he knows he can harness it #that not only is he able to but he can/will do great things #he is the best person steve could pass the shield do #I just wish we saw /our/ steve rogers handing it off

im generally not a fan of the idea of any of the early 2000s sonic games being remastered because i think those games not having the most updated looking graphics or the best voice acting ever is part of the charm i dont want them to be changed to look and sound exactly like every other sonic game thats come out in the past 14 years

#leave sonic heroes ALONEEEE #also when it comes to character voices i tend to prefer the voices from either back then or from the 4kids cast #we do not need those older games with perfectly good voice casts being downgraded like that come on #(no hate to the current cast though theyre just doing their jobs and i do like a lot of the voices. most just arent my favorite)#though when they remastered colors they didnt re record the voice acting #and when they made an animated short to go along with it they brought back tails' va from back then #so maybe they would try to avoid recasting everybody #some recasts would be unavoidable though if they tried to record any new stuff for it #because for colors only 1 voice actor was different from the current cast but for heroes its 13 different characters #and also eggmans va from back then died unfortunately. and tails and charmy were voiced by actual kids who are much older now #but its mostly just a few specific performances that i dont want recorded over by newer voices i like a lot less #i dont know why they have to remaster the 3d games in order to re release them anyway ..#why cant you just make a port with minimal changes #again this is assuming that the sonic heroes remaster rumors are even true . which im assuming theyre not im just talking hypothetically

the thing about X6 is that he's essentially a slave given to the Sole Survivor by the Institute. and I think that the fandom's treatment of him would be different if the game addressed it or even just said it

#forever crying cause x6 has no companion quest #i mean like. would be cool if fallout fans could read implications but also i think im one of the very few who actually think about x6 #like. what the hell.........#also obv the institute synth slavery plotline was incredibly mishandled and also bad but like. everyone knows that #fallout 4 would be SO good if it was good #one thing i think about the synths. is that there are different divisioms of gen 3s #the common one: normal artificial human-cyborg basically. BUT has a short life expectancy (like... 10-15 years? short in general)#for the coursers i cant decide whether theyre upgraded commons (which would make them 'a class above' with some 'gifted' individuality)#or if theyre just. made to kill. superior physically and mentally. proficient with weapons. uncommon. even shorter life expectancy tho #and the impersonators made specifically to inflitrate the outside world. who have a life expectancy much closer to a real human #but theyre uncommon (usually community leaders) and theyre hard to make. so the commons are also sent up a lot of the time #and the institute goal in all this is to secretly control the commonwealth societies AND to use the synths (with 'a shorter life anyways')#to clean the commonwealth of radiation and create safe spaces and generally make it good and safe. and also perform eugenics on the humans #so that after the commonwealth is safe and non irradiated etc. the institute humans can actually come out and have the world ready for them #and they'd be provided for etc etc. which would make a convincing goal for a vault-like society AND have the ss actually consider joining #but with obvious flaws in their plan (maybe not even their grandchildren would see the outside. the synth slavery obv (with disregard for #their lives). the basically slow genocide of the outside humans and ghouls and all mutated life. like itd be so good #also the short life cycle of a synth (especially a courser) would make an x6 story so tasty. like. hes probably what? 6 or 8? not a lot #is he a child? not really. an adult? i dont think so. hes just here and hes going to die soon and theres nothing you can do #could be a nice ground for a companion quest where hes free and learns how to live to the fullest for his remaining years or smth #also the short lifespan (finally remembered thw word) could actually be a reason for synths to be considered less than human #cause in the base game its just like. theyre just some guys with metal in their heads and i guess they were made in a lab (noone could tell)#coming back to the institute. they would be so full of themselves and scared of the outside and pretty pathetic that thered be no way #to talk them into changing their plans and working with the outside world. but youd have to think about it a bit cause their supplies #WILL run out. its a matter of time. and they will NOT work with the other factions no matter what. so if work against them youll doom them #which is why we could use some innocent institute npcs too. or like... show some children there or whatever. make them human too #but you also see how much destruction theyre causing in the outside world (insert quest about synths like... the mcdonough quest or smth)#damn and i thought i wouldnt go on a tirade in the tags again.... alas #well here are my almost 2am thoughts about the institute and that its stupid in base game #fallout 4 would be so good if it was good

i always thought i was a very typical enemies to lovers girlie but i think i just realized my actual taste in ships is the dynamic where the two are supposedly equal rivals/enemies who represent diametrically opposed themes (for the Aesthetic), but in actuality it’s just one of them yanking the other around on a chain while the other whines and rages and protests and ultimately makes an absolute spectacle of themselves

so uhhh. how did THAT happen and when and why

#L and light fit this dynamic bc my mental model of their conversations is like this #L shoots light a question mostly meant to fuck with him and it works bc light instantly starts running in around in circles in his brain #he’s like a circus performer juggling ten rings on a tightrope. obsessively constructing his answer based on what he imagines he looks like #in L's eyes. he's like... a peacock strutting around with his feathers out or some shit. so easily provoked. he's doing this to himself!!!#this is not even mentioning that L had light on a literal leash (that's what im calling the chain.) but anyways #i started shipping them in yotsuba arc and it was the moment where light did a thing in hunting down yotsuba and L was like hmm. good boy.#(me: having visions of light's brain shorting out in this moment (bc the praise kink shit is so real and personal to me))#but then he turns it into another test: you're so good you could replace me actually. and then light just calls him on it in front of the #whole task force with this big dramatic speech like he'd reached into L's brain and pulled the thoughts directly from his head #light is constantly performing at L's whims and he hates it ofc. he's under investigation; why wouldn't he? but secretly he's having the #time of his life bc he's a bit deranged and he likes showing off!!! to L!!!#out of all versions of light i think yotsuba!light felt most strongly about having Something To Prove. to everyone and to L specifically #at this point after the fake-memory kira shenanigans he's def not a normal strait-laced boy even if he's pretending very hard to be one #theres so much u can do w that dynamic imo. like it isnt just neutered kira vs L it's got its own flavor that can only exist at that time #especially if u also assume L realizes light has lost his memories and is kinda trying to manipulate him about it #anyways back to my original point. i can't believe it took an anthropomorphic tv man hitting the base versions of my tastes with deadly #precision for me to even realize what they were. im going insane about this. thank you anthropomorphic tv man. i guess #this is also why alastor + lucifer isn’t doing it for me i think. hating each other over power levels? or over charlie? boringgg #it’s gotta be more personal than that. they’re more evenly matched in how they feel about each other but it feels soulless #i need that raw gut churning angst lmaooo #this is also partly why i can’t get into angel + husk and im MAD about it. i think they’re the kind of ship i might’ve liked back when i #was 12 and losing it over sns (naruto) for the first time. but now i’m a diff type of person apparently

Tfw a scene hits you with such force and clarity, it's absolutely like a religious vision

When Astarion gets up in the middle of the night to handle the twins so they will be quiet and let Mercy sleep, Mercy sneaks off to the undercity ruins. Theyre gone for hours hunting any Bhaalists who are trying to maintain the ruins, slaughtering the Bhaalists, and then going to the altar to yell directly at Bhaal, only to be met with silence. Mercy screaming that he couldn't take anything else from them. They'd make damn sure of it. Just never saying "You took everything you wanted from me, but you cannot have the twins." And it's a threat. One that isn't answered.

Then returning to a fretting Astarion (bc they're both still unlearning their codependency)

#bat rambles #durge and astarion are still working through toxic habits after the tadpoles are dealt with #they're both codependent and until this point havent had to be separated #or even like exist in a way that wasnt together #Mercy’s his emotional support person #and mercy is a guard dog who needs a job and their job is protecting Astarion so no one can get close #while he shoots an arrow through their throat #but now mercy also is feeling protective of the twins #not even maternal projectiveness or anything #they just can see who they were in the twins and if they got a chance #even with them spilling so much blood their body remembers what their mind cannot #mercy got a second chance and theyre going to extend that to the kids #it's just complicated and scary #astarion is still very much in his head and just performing so he doesnt have to think about the Horrors #he's just playing 5D short-term chess but he doesnt think of the twins as people yet #at best theyre like disgusting little gnolls #tolerating bc he can see Mercy isnt rejecting them #and mercy is like preparing for him to be like. this is NOT what i want #even tho he's absolutely thinking to himself it's barely a blip in his immortal life span #the time needed to rear the kids enough to be self sufficient and independent is nothing #but mercy will NOT ask him to stay they would never ask him to do something they think he may not wanna do #but bc no communication he's very confused about why they're so fucking angry at him all of a sudden #bc theyre pushing him away #their act 1 relationship was v much defined by communication issues by two people who dont know who they are #never love an anchor

I'm not a "new musical theatre style music" person. Never have been.

Even when I was doing voice lessons, I'd steer towards the golden age or jazzy musical theatre songs. My voice teacher would have to drag me kicking and screaming towards adding anything new musical theatre to my repertoire. For a while, the most modern song in my book was I Know The Truth from Aida, and I wouldn't count that as new musical theatre style since I mean more the Pasek&Paul or Joe Iconis type.

And now I have an audition coming up for a small production of a show in that style and I'm supposed to sing a song in a similar style. And I'm looking at all my sheet music like... let me do some Cole Porter... or Gershwin... at least Sondheim please...

#look i do have SOME newer musicals in my book. but like i said. kicking and screaming.#i'm probably gonna end up doing 'I Think That He Likes Me' which is not IN a musical it's just new musical theatre style #as part of a songbook for some writing duo that i can't remember the name of and it's 2:45am so i can't care enough to look it up.#and it's the only one in my sheet music folder that i'm like 'ok. this is TRULY the right style' and i know it's good in my voice #and it's a cute song and i do like it and it definitely fits the overall vibe of the show #and though i haven't sung it in like 4 years i still remember 90% of the words and have time to study it before the audition #but while trying to find that song deep deep in my folder i pass by other songs i just love so much more #and i'm like ahhhhhhhh why #and i'm not even like 'god i hope i get it' (see A Chorus Line. that's more my type) i truly don't care if i'm cast or not #and yes i can technically audition with any song i could ever want it's just suggested to do the same style #but i know the entire creative panel who i'll be auditioning for and the last 2 times i auditioned for them i sang the same song #only because it's a GOOD song that fit both shows i was auditioning for (Can't Stop Talking About Him by Frank Loesser)#(perfect audition song since it's short at like 28 bars and you can pick the tempo and do a lot of character stuff)#(but see this is what i mean. like 1/3 of my entire sheet music folder is golden age musicals. then half is 60s-90s.)#(and then the last chunk are the few new-ish musical theatre and some pop music.)#(if i took performing more seriously i'd have a wider range but this is truly just for fun and just for me. so i do what i like.)#i don't want to go in for a 3rd audition with the same creative team and doing the same song. especially since it doesn't fit this time.#so once again. dragged kicking and screaming. over to new musical theatre territory. unwillingly.#if i get cast we'll have to see if the show itself even grows on me since honestly i think there's maybe 2 songs i like in it.#it's definitely not the worst new musical theatre style show but it's also not one that drew me in.#ok wait while looking through lists of 'new musical theatre' shows to find one i actually like (i think just Legally Blonde sorry guys)#(every other new musical in the last 20 years that i like did something interesting with the music like Come From Away)#i ended up finding out that apparently 13 was adapted into a netflix movie? when did that even happen?#i mean i don't care for that show either but i thought i was at least up to date on movie adaptations.

I hope you don't mind the influx of GG/Dorothy asks you've gotten because I really love your takes and your fics really touch upon a more vulnerable part of Dorothy that I feel was rarely fully explored but was very much present. I was watching recently an ep where Dorothy says she thought her father didn't like her or love her and Sophia cracked that he always talked her up ... to try and sell her to gypsies. Dorothy says "do you know how much that hurts me when you say things like that?". It's one of those lines that's never really followed up on or given a big moment but it stays with me.

Thank you so much :') I started writing Golden Girls fics precisely for that reason: Dorothy's vulnerability is left so underexplored in the show, even in the moments that (in my opinion, anyway!) presented the perfect opportunity to delve a little deeper into her feelings. I had to give her a moment to shine haha.

That line is the perfect example of what I'm talking about, actually! They throw in those really poignant lines or moments (or even just looks, at times) that hint at so much going on beneath the surface, but it's never expanded on. The only emotional moments she does get, that are fully followed up on, are those relating to Stan -- and even there I feel like a lot is glossed over (often by Dorothy herself, first and foremost).

I could probably write an essay on this but I'll spare you, but I think Sophia's often treated much the same -- if slightly differently -- in the show! And I mean, considering she raised Dorothy, I'm pretty sure she inadvertently ended up teaching Dorothy that covering up your vulnerability is the only way to deal with it. Sophia covers her feelings with quips and jokes, Dorothy does it through dismissal.

And because both of their methods for covering up are very convenient for a sitcom (I can drag Blanche into this as well, by the way. But I promised not to write an essay) it's *so easy* for the narrative to just. go along with their own dismissal of their feelings. Have Sophia distract from her feelings with a funny joke, and the audience is on the floor. Have Dorothy dismiss her feelings with a Look, and there's another opening for someone else to keep up the pace and move the scene along into lighter territory.

#they did only have 24 minutes to tell a story after all!#so if you have characters who will conveniently cover up their vulnerabilities then you won't have to take up all that time to explore that #and you can move on to the driving factor of every sitcom: the plot #they fit *so much* story into that short runtime it honestly kind of makes sense #i feel like all the girls have those moments where there's clearly something else going on but it's never explored bc the plot moves on #but it's easier to put blanche or rose in an emotionally heavy plot than it is for dorothy #i think #because blanche does keep up a facade as well but she *cannot* let go of it #she puts up a performance but she's *putting on a performance* (constantly). so there's enough of a base for the narrative to focus on #rose even actively looks for support. i'd argue she handles vulnerability very well! so again: easier to centre a plot on #dorothy though?? dorothy will probably go on like nothing's wrong #and *that* doesn't make a compelling central plot in a sitcom #(which is part of why i love 'sick & tired' so much! dorothy has to be vulnerable there because she *cannot* run this time)#oh no i'm so sorry. i went on a tangent in the tags #anyway THANKS for this ask anon! you made me very happy with the opportunity to talk about this haha #the golden girls #ask #anon #dorothy zbornak

Adventures Of My Theatre Kid Garbage Brain; Spanish Class Edition

So I currently have a Spanish class for gen-ed requirements, and on the way to class/while waiting for class to start I was listening to music, as you do, and a bit before class started America from West Side Story played, not particularly notable, I was just playing my Spotify liked songs on shuffle, and several other songs played after it, whatever

Except the text we're currently working with in class is a poem called Nuyorican Tales, so class started and within minutes America popped into my mind because of some line or something that was said, I don't remember what specifically and ended up stuck in my head the rest of the discussion. So constant battle of "I think I'll go back to San Juan, I know a boa-hey, focus, pay attention to class. ......Puerto Rico, you lovely islan-dammit!" Because as my title says, I'm a theatre kid and my brain is a piece of shit that won't let me actually focus
