Ateez as Pirates

A little side project that I've been working on with my friends (Dragon and @feralleprechaun) since Ateez teased Crazy Form (I know it's been a minute), and they said they were going to give Atiny something we had been hoping for. Which for our trio, was a full pirate concept. We were inspired to actually start seriously thinking out the idea when we came across @mathildascarlett's first two tiktoks on her Ateez as Pirates ideas. She only had those two videos out at the time, but it sent us into a spiral that had us trying to figure out our own idea of what Ateez would look like as an actual pirate crew. Crazily enough, some of our ideas continued to line up with hers as well as other Atiny's.

Even though we sadly did not get a pirate concept from that comeback, we ate up the military-esque looks and I continued writing for our pirate head-canon.

So here's a little post about our idea. I've written so many chapters for it when I've been brain dead from working on The Sky that Doesn't End (which I am still working on, I swear). I feel bad not publishing it, so I wanted to share some of the other things I've been up to.

Since the crew is small, each of them hold multiple roles.

Kim Hongjoong:

Role: Captain. Helmsman and shipwright. 

Personality: Manic. Sass. Swag. Nonchalance. “Nonchalant mania”

Backstory: Marooned for disagreeing with his previous captain.

Kim: Name of kings.  

Specialization: Sword, musket, twin pistols

Fighting Style: Hongjoong is one of the best at taking multiple opponents at once. Very aware of his surroundings. Not afraid to fight dirty. Likes to duel wield when in large spaces and facing multiple opponents. Terrifying. 

Clothing: Rings, earrings, some necklaces. Long coat. Leans more towards European clothing pieces, but likes to mix and match. Undercut with longer hair on top that he braids or puts into a ponytail and decorates. 

Not sure of his full origins, but his guardian told him his name but also not to advertise it. Advised to always be on the move, and given a plaque (hopae) with his guardian’s name on it.

He has a singular amethyst earring that he wears occasionally but mostly keeps safely tucked away. It belonged to his mother, but he doesn’t know that. He just knows it’s important, and one of the few things that ties him to his past.

Seonghwa:

Story mostly revolves around him, even though it is an ensemble fic.

Siren: Somewhere between siren and merman really. Tail that turns into legs, haven't really decided on the color but I lean towards silver. He doesn’t hunt humans, though some of his kind does, using their powers to do so. He can sense negative emotions, mostly ones that are suicidal. When he cries his tears become pearls. White: normal tears from sadness. Pink: Tears of happiness. Black: tears from strong negative emotions (anguish/anger).

Role: First mate and quartermaster.

Personality: Sensable but ruthless. Cool calm anger. Brooder. He sits at the edge on the ship and sings haunting melodies as he looks out over the ocean. (Davy Jones’ lullaby)

Backstory: Love lost at sea. Tortured soul. Falls in love with a human. She is an outcast and he comes across her at the edge of the cliff that overlooks a cove that he calls home. They get close but she is kidnapped/sold and he goes on a pirate hunt to find her. He ends up finding Hongjoong on a deserted island.

Specialization: Sword (still thinking about this one)

Fighting Style: Seonghwa prefers to always have a weapon. Very graceful movements. Flowy. Deceptively strong. Can easily break holds a human couldn’t. Watches and learns. Hongjoong taught him how to wield a sword.

Clothing: Lots of flowy materials. Korean clothing worn loosely. Occasionally the puffy shirt with a corset and pants. Doesn’t really care for shoes but learns to live with them when necessary. 

Other: Gives her a norigae decorated with pink pearls

Yunho:

Role: Navigator. Unofficial sailing master with San and Hongjoong’s help. Learned from a true sailing master on his last ship. Trainer for a very brief time. Secondary ship master.

Personality: Puppy, bouncy, caring. Some people are confused about how he is a pirate until they meet him in a fight. He is very quick to let his true personality shine with the crew, though he keeps a lot of his story hidden. 

Backstory: Slave turned human weapon on a pirate or naval ship maybe. The sailing master noticed he had an interest in learning, especially in cartography and taught him in secret. This is what helps him hold onto his humanity, though most of the time it is buried very deep inside. He leaves that crew and joins Ateez.

Old crew: 

Alessio: Friend, teacher, and ship's cartographer. 

Specialization: Cartography. Weapons. He is the most skilled fighter. 

Fighting Style: Yunho is comfortable getting up close with his fists. Prefers to use his hands over his feet, but comfortable with both. Can take a hit and keep going. Any time he would go down during training the trainer would just say “again” and it would repeat until he couldn't get up again. At some point he just built up a tolerance until he was strong enough to knock his trainer down. He analyzes others’ fighting styles quickly and adapts to counter. 

Clothing: More European. Structured tops with sleeves rolled up. Waistcoats. Long boots. Shorter hair (the fellowship: break the wall; anchor in Seoul) 

Other: Some first aid knowledge from his one friend helping him when he was injured since the captain and others saw no need to help him.

Note from @feralleprechaun: In a scenario where he tries to train someone, he comes to the realization that it wasn’t that hard to be a kind trainer. That his trainer had been a horrible man. And he doesn’t have to be like him.

Yeosang:

Role: Assassin. Taster. Doctor.

Personality: Quiet and calm most of the time. Doesn’t enjoy physical affection at first. Doesn’t always pay attention to what’s going on in casual settings once he gets comfortable but is always five steps ahead while on a job or in a fight. Graceful while working.

Backstory: Son of a Gisaeng and nobleman. He’s been friends with Wooyoung and San for several years. 

Publicly: his father doesn’t ignore him or treat him with disdain, but he also doesn’t claim him and wants him to live quietly and respectfully.

Hidden: His father has him train under a master assassin for his personal use.

Specialization: 

Poisons: was trained to make and detect them. He has high tolerance for many of them. 

Weapons: Daggers, knives, and other small undetectable weapons. Bow and arrows. Some knowledge with many other weapons and fighting styles. Minimal knowledge with guns.

Fighting Style: Yeosang is similar to Yunho, but is more comfortable using his feet than him. Prefers to use blades, but still very skilled in hand to hand. Analyzes others’ fighting styles quickly and implements it in his own fighting. 

Clothing: Goes back and forth between flowing and fitted. Pastel or dark colors. While his hair was very long he cuts it to shoulder length and often puts it up with a hair stick. Sometimes ribbons/scraps of cloth braided in.

Other: Some first aid knowledge from having to take care of himself when injured. Learns in more detail later.

San:

Role: Lookout. Sail-master/Master Rigger. Boatswain. Fisher.

Personality: Self-sacrificing. Really free spirited but serious when in a fight. 

Backstory: His father is a fisherman and he grows up on the boats and in the trade but ends up becoming close with Wooyoung and finds he has a talent at the gaming tables. He learns tricks of the gambling/swindling trade and spends most of his time at the “tea” house. 

Specialization: Hand to hand focused but is decent with standard weapons. He’s also good at predicting weather changes and climbing due to his time on the fishing ships. 

Fighting Style: San is a brawler, but surprisingly fast and agile. Very difficult to predict. Not afraid to tackle his opponents.

Clothing: More structured tops and waistcoats but that give him enough flexibility to move freely. Arms are often uncovered or his sleeves are rolled up. 

Mingi:

Role: Tradesman. Explosives master. Quartermaster: Food and water supplies (job shared with Wooyoung)

Personality: Clumsy, boisterous, impulsive.  

Backstory: Son of a merchant. Gets rescued by the crew and decides to join them.

Specialization: Musket. Grenades. Explosives. 

Fighting Style: Mingi prefers to stay out of the middle of a fight and pick enemies off from the sidelines. He’s not afraid to throw a mean punch though.

Clothing: Long coats and lots of jewelry, especially long necklaces and rings.

Wooyoung:

Role: Grifter, gambler, pickpocket. Cook. Quartermaster: Food and water supplies (shared with Mingi)

Personality: Flirty. Troublemaker. This bleeds into his fighting. Banters make it seem like he’s not taking the fight seriously which makes him that much more dangerous. 

Backstory: His father owns a tea (gambling) house and he is raised in that. Learns fighting from his father and spars with San who also occasionally trains with him, something his father does so they know how to protect themselves. He runs a table with San and they frequently cheat (shady) people out of their money. They make the mistake of trying to fool Hongjoong. After getting along with him they invite him and Seonghwa to watch them spar. 

Specialization: Pickpocket. He’s a smoothtalker and very disarming because of his charm. He specializes in dual daggers. 

Fighting Style: Wooyoung is fast. Can easily dodge and prefers dodging to blocking. Likes to get behind his opponent whenever possible.

Clothing: Poofy shirts most of the time with a low neckline and long necklaces. Occasional waistcoat. Longer hair, often half up (bouncy/kingdom era). 

Other: grandmother was a siren

Jongho:

Role: Strategist. Master of Arms (Trainer). Master Gunner.

Personality: Most “upright” of the group. He hates when they cross legal lines but also understands how necessary it is sometimes. 

Backstory: Royal guard or Secret Royal Inspector. Found out about some corruption but is framed or attacked before he can do anything about it. He meets the crew while on the run. He’s kept a hold of his inspector token and they occasionally use it. 

Jongho is a secret inspector (young for the job). While inspecting the officials in a small seaside town he witnesses the governor sell some of the villagers to pirates late at night. However, he’s seen and chased, but escapes. While in hiding he sees HJ, who he recognizes from the pirate crew (not at the deal), and follows him and is discovered by the groups. Once everything is cleared up, he reluctantly joins them to expose the corruption occurring. 

Specialization: Planning and strategizing. Standard Korean military weapons. 

Fighting Style: Jongho is very economic in his movements. Tries to spend as little energy as possible in his moves. Capable with swordplay and packs a mean punch. If he hits you in the head or another vital area… you’re down. Very formal in his sword work, because he learned in the military. Can take a hit and keep going. 

Clothing: Sticks with a uniform for the most part, but outside of that, very structured and tidy. Slowly starts adding accessories at the others recommendation. 

Other: Some solid medical knowledge from watching his mother who is a nurse.

I've written over 60,000 words so far for this story and have many, many scenes planned that I haven't even written yet. I've only really released it to my friends, but I guess if anyone is interested I could start posting it. Though I really don't want to go through the editing until it's done. Which could be a while since I'm working on so many projects right now.

I have a lot of fun cameos in it, including Bang Chan and his merry band of Stray Kids.

I had to do some trimming on the bios in case I ever do post it on here. We don't want to spoil too many things.

WIP Re-Intro: The Forever Project

Tried this once here and none of that is strictly wrong, but I just wrote a killer blurb so we’re going again.

How would you fare if you became omnipotent on your fourteenth birthday? I imagine you might be able to figure something out given some time to get a handle on your newfound powers, but Hera Elizabeth Rider’s deicidal brother accidentally transporting her out of the universe while trying to turn her into a weapon is not giving her that luxury. It takes her a deal with the devil, unwitting service to a vampire hunter, the creation of several gods, and one eccentric genius before she’s able to do anything with her powers on purpose, and by then it’s really not clear what the right thing to do even is.

Forever project: all tag games, short stories, random thoughts, and if I ever do them character intros for this work are tagged with this tag. It’s the one to block if you are mainly here for Twilight content.

Elise Godslayer: This is the tag for the MC, Hera Elizabeth Rider. She goes by Elise because there’s too many Hera’s in her family (in her world Mary goes by her syncretized Greek name, and so most European historical figures that in our world are named Mary are named Hera there) and Elizabeth is too long for her tastes. The godslayer part is arguably a spoiler, but it happens in chapter three so I’m not too worried. Elise is a fairly normal fourteen-year old, outside of her godlike powers. She likes music (she can play violin and fiddle), was just starting to figure out she might like some girls as more than friends, is wary of responsibility, and has a crushing need to be liked.

Davriel Godslayer: This is Elise’s twin brother, though he was born human. Because he was human, he wasn’t seen as a threat like Elise was, and so while his sister was sent to live among humans with her powers locked away, Davriel was raised by their godly parents and named himself David after the king when he realized he was trans. Mount Olympus is not a great place to raise a kid, and rants by his uncle Ares left him with a certainty that he could do better. Hence his plans to kill all of the gods and become ruler. This is not to say that he wouldn’t make a terrifyingly competent and entirely benevolent god-king, it is simply that his understanding of what he’s working with (the world) is a scoche incomplete. As for why I and his tag call him Davriel and not David, well that is a smidge more of a spoiler, though I’m sure it’s decipherable from my writings in his tag.

Eric Melior: This is the blurb’s vampire hunter! What the blurb does not mention is that he is also a vampire (and a wraith) and was born in 1892. Since making the tag I’ve Polanized his name to Eryk, though future me and his pro-Tzarist parents might have something to say about that. He is a very dutiful son, which means odd things for a Nihil whose mother has been drawn into a cult promising protection from (read extinction of) the vampires that are beginning to spread through the Russian Empire.

Sorceress: Here we have our eccentric genius. The only person (selkie, dragon, centaur or siren) to discover how to use magic on a sentient creature! She used this power to give herself a pair of legs and a sealskin, having been born a siren but being too curious about the world to confine herself to the water. Even though Elise created her world, Sorceress is likely its most consequential figure.

Mlle Nefara: The most recent character to get a tag, Mlle Nefara is just trying to get rich. Unfortunately, honest means are not particularly available to her as a black woman in 1890s Europe, and so she has chosen the slightly easier route of lying to a bunch of rich people, telling them all about the supernatural threats only she can teach them how to defend themselves against. Her charisma and talent are serving her well in this endeavor until 1897, when a plague of monsters begins to creep through the land. They’re similar enough to the ones she’d made up for her sect to become increasingly popular, but she can’t be so lucky that the techniques she made up would actually defeat them.

Siren’s meet nada: Nada is the word for city among the most magically reckless group of humans on Globe, Sorceress’s world. They call the city that has built up around Sorceress’s first home on land Siren’s Meet, not because they really ever meet Sorceress (and very few know she was ever a siren regardless), but because the estuary has collected extremists and eccentrics from human and siren communities. While it was Sorceress’s presence (and her geologic engineering) that drew the first few citizens to the place, it continued to thrive long after she went to Nadalitas. I use this tag mainly for short stories and worldbuilding facts that take place in the city.

Nihil hunters: A nihil is the most dangerous of the monsters that have begun to infect Eryk and Mlle Nefara’s world. They are at once vampire and wraith, and so lose many of the vulnerabilities of both. The tag is nihil hunters for their whole world, because vampire hunters, what they call themselves, is simply too generic.

Southern dragons: These are mostly a world building project, as their interaction with the magic system and spatial/temporal laws I’ve built for this project is generally quite illustrative. While they originated in the southern continent of Sorceress’s world, hence their name, they have since spread to other worlds, moving through space and reality with a degree of mysterious ease I think is suitable for dragons.

Spacewhaling: It may not be correct to include this tag with this project; in fact, it started as an independent concept. If it does intersect with Elise’s story, it would only be in the third or maybe even fourth book.

Twenty-four hours has never seemed like such an insurmountably long time.

Buck's had long shifts before, the boring ones when he'd stare at the alarms on the wall, willing them to go off—he can picture Maddie's disappointed scowl if she ever found out about that, but he swears he was only hoping for something small and harmless to break up the monotony—and the busy ones. Ones that leave his ears ringing with phantom sirens by the end. Those days only ever seem long in retrospect, when he's bone-tired and trying to remember all the names he asked for.

But now every shift seems to find new and shittier ways to be gruelling. Eddie's miserable and trying to act like he isn't. There's this weird, uncomfortable tension brewing between Hen and Chim. Ravi got himself transferred to B shift—probably to get away from Gerrard, and Buck can't exactly blame him, but he sort of does anyway and their new probie is terrible, and... then there's Gerrard.

Like, Buck already knew he was a piece of work, but. Knowing and experiencing are two very different things. He could barely stand keeping his mouth shut at the medal ceremony when he met the man for five seconds, and now he has to put up with him making smug, belittling comments towards all his friends, all the time. Constantly needing to remind himself he doesn't want to get fired is actually killing him.

It doesn't help that every so often he'll remember Tommy's offhand Captain Gerrard was like having the dad I already had, with a pang as he wonders what exactly Tommy grew up with. What parts of Gerrard's condescending tyranny were familiar to him. Phillip Buckley may not have been father of the year, but maybe never being looked directly at was better than being raised neck deep in toxic waste.

Every time he remembers he gets the urge to pull out his phone and call Tommy up just to... he doesn't even know. Just to hear his voice, maybe. Know if he's doing okay.

Another reason work days seem so long now, if he's being honest. He's always counting down the hours until he can see Tommy again. Like a kid on the last day of school, watching the clock tick closer and closer to summer vacation.

So, of course, right near the end of a particularly busy shift, Gerrard gets them all lined up for a lecture about how sloppy that last save was. Everyone did something wrong, and everyone needs to hear about all the ways they could have gotten someone killed, like they don't all know how risky the job is already.

By the time he's finished telling Chim it's a miracle he managed to convince anyone to let him out on calls, Buck is clenching his jaw hard enough to make his teeth ache.

"I'm sure Captain Soft-Touch loved telling you all it was okay to be mediocre, and that you were trying your best," Gerrard sneers at them all, waving a dismissive hand at very idea of Bobby's captaincy. "But the coddling ended when he retired. Sparing your feelings is going to get people killed. Diaz!" He shouts, abrupt, turning on his heel towards Eddie. Eddie doesn't flinch, but Buck does.

"Yes, sir?" He's coolly polite, and his face is carefully blank, but his posture is tense.

"If I ever catch you checking your phone at a scene again, I'll make sure you're mopping floors for the rest of your life."

Eddie's expression hardens. It was a fender-bender and Eddie didn't even touch his phone until everyone was accounted for and packed into the ambulance. "It was a text from my son. Sir." His tone veers a little to the left of polite.

"I don't care if it was from the goddamn Pope, when you're in the field your focus stays on scene. Next time your brat needs something tell him to go cry to his mother about it."

This time when Buck flinches, everyone else in line does too. Hen bites down on a grimace. Chim hisses quietly through his teeth.

"I can't do that," Eddie says flatly. "What with her being dead and all."

The firehouse is silent for a long, horrible moment. That might've taken the wind out of any decent person's sails, Buck thinks. At the very least most people would've retreated into awkwardness and ended the lecture entirely.

Gerrard's brow pinches angrily. "Don't get smart with me, Diaz."

Buck's not sure it's possible to hate someone more than he hates their new captain right now.

"I don't care about your little sob story excuses, I care that you're sloppy and distracted. If you can't handle the job and the kid, drop one of them."

Oh, he was wrong.

He hates this man so much he's choking on it, it's clogging his throat like bile and he's running out of strength to care that he shouldn't spit it out, spew it everywhere and ruin everything just for the chance of hurting this man in the process. He feels like his skin is bursting at the seams.

Eddie's biting the inside of his cheek, rage and sorrow warring silently on his face.

And Buck breaks. Bursts. "Hey, Captain, that's—"

"Can it, Buckley," Gerrard cuts him off before he can even start. It's not angry, it's not anything, he brushes Buck off like he's an annoying fly buzzing in his ear, barely worth glancing at for the two seconds it takes to tell him he doesn't care. "You're all dismissed. Get out of my sight."

Some of them flee, scurrying to their lockers, the kitchen, anywhere but here. A couple of people throw backwards glances before they walk away. Hen and Chim exchange grim looks. Eddie disappears out the back door in an angry haze. And Buck...

Buck feels. Empty. Small. Like he cut himself open trying to relieve the pressure and now there's just nothing left. No one to patch up the wound, and no reason for any of it, he didn't make an impact, he didn't help anyone, he stood there listening to his friends get degraded, and now—now he's feeling sorry for himself?

It's stupid. He's stupid. He feels like shit because, what, because he didn't get yelled at? Because his piece of shit captain took a break from implying he's a disgusting pervert?

He thinks himself in circles about it his whole way home, the pit in his stomach getting a little deeper every time he tries to will it away.

He's wallowed himself halfway through a six-pack, staring sightlessly at his TV, by the time his front door opens.

"Evan?"

One of the knots in his chest loosens. "Yeah," he calls out, not bothering to sound less pathetic than he is. "In here."

"Hey." Tommy's stopped next to the stairs, eyeing him. His gaze is assessing, but his tone is soft. He's always so careful with Buck. "Bad day?"

Buck takes another sip of his beer. Shrugs.

"Ah, one of those."

The couch cushions dip as Tommy takes a seat next to him. He's close enough that Buck doesn't have to look at him to know he's there. There's warmth radiating off him. The woodsy scent of his aftershave. Buck presses their knees together, and exhales properly for the first time in hours.

He knows he could talk about whatever he wants and Tommy would let him. He's waiting for Buck to take the lead here. Buck could avoid the issue entirely and decide to talk about anything. The fact that he can't really tell the difference between the fancy beer Tommy insists is better than the crap Buck's drinking right now. The documentary about bees he's pretending to watch. The goddamn weather.

What comes out of his mouth is a quiet, "I feel like an idiot."

Tommy pulls the beer bottle out of Buck's loose grip, puts it down next to the couch, and then takes Buck's hand in both of his. "Why?"

Buck scrubs at his eyes. "I..." He catalogues the tiny scars on Tommy's knuckles. Two, three, little dots on his index finger. A lopsided vee on his thumb. "Something happened at work."

"Did Gerrard say something to you?" There's an edge to Tommy's question, something sharp and flinty. It makes Buck's heart do dumb little somersaults.

"No." He stops, shame burning his cheeks. "Not. Not to me. That's... He was lecturing everybody, and I..."

"Evan." Tommy grips his chin, firmly, gently, guiding Buck's face until he looks him in the eye. There's a sympathetic twist to his mouth. "Tell me."

He does. As best he can when it feels like what's didn't happen is more important, and he can barely put into words why that is. But trying helps, a little. Trying to whittle it down into an explanation forces him to look at the whole of it, and realize it's not looming over him anymore.

Maybe it's just Tommy's hands on him, soothing the hurt away.

"I dunno. Feels like I could have done something differently, maybe"

Tommy hums, tilting his head in acknowledgement. "You could've."

Buck winces.

"But it wouldn't have turned out any better."

Oh.

A flower blooms on the TV, purple and white petals reaching for the sun. Buck toys with Tommy's fingers, and shifts his leg closer, hooking their ankles together.

"It felt so shitty," he mutters.

"I know."

He would, wouldn't he. Buck gets that pang in his chest again, and he pushes the rest of the way into Tommy's space. Tommy wraps his arms around him, and drops a kiss into his curls, seemingly content to let Buck situate himself however he wants.

He kind of wishes Tommy wasn't still wearing jeans, but asking him to take his pants off might send the wrong message.

"You don't think I'm, like...a bad friend, right?" He cringes his way through the question.

"No." Tommy responds matter-of-factly and without hesitation. Then the corner of his mouth twitches. "I think you're a very good boy."

Buck's entire head feels like it's on fire. A grin starts to creep across his face. It might be the first time he's smiled all day. "Oh, yeah?"

"Mhm."

Maybe he should ask Tommy to take his jeans off after all.

I don't really like y/n's in general, I think I just have a problem with the 2nd person perspective- I don't like being told what to do pfptpfp

But in general I think I prefer when they have more personality or are their own character- makes them more of like an interesting person for the dca's to interact with rather than like putting "myself" into the story

how do Creators, a Guide-

-basic concept is ‘what if art but superpowers’.

-less basic concept is; People who can use this world’s magic system are called Creators. There are 4 types of Creators; Withdrawers, Imbuers, Enhancers, and Invokers. Being a Creator is genetic, though it’s a recessive gene (like green eyes) so parents do not have to be Creators for their child to be.

-Imbuers are the most common and also the type general society is most unbothered by. Imbuers can embed special properties into anything they create, for example a sword that cannot break, a necklace that enhances the wearer’s hearing, or a food that heals. 

-Withdrawers are the second most common, but the type regarded as most dangerous by general society. Withdrawers can bring things they create to life/into existence; said things can be controlled by their creator and are made out of whatever they’re created with.

-Enhancers are regarded as the least common type, and unlike the other two types of Creator, most Enhancers live in their own nation and do not interact with outsiders. Enhancers can enhance the art they perform, for example turning singing into a siren-like spell.

- Invokers are the most rare type of Creator, most people don’t believe they exist. Invokers can force things to happen by writing them down.

so, what are the Libraries?-

~in essence, they’re… well, libraries.

~Specifically, cool fantasy libraries that don’t actually let you check out books.

~I suppose that would make them more of archives? IDK

~Anyway, the Libraries are run by Librarians, who have magic powers because this is a fantasy universe and I can do what I want. 

~specifically, the Libraries’ founder figured out a way to make it so that the staff of each Library can use all the Gifts belonging to the Librarians of that particular Library.

~They also serve as sanctuaries in the same way that cathedrals used to.

(sidebar; what are ‘Gifts’-

~Basically, a long time ago, Something Happened.

~that made what are called Rifts; IE places where the world doesn’t quite… work right.

~Plants and animals that grow/live near the Rifts are Kind of Funky.

~as are people! This is how magic. Magic is called Gifts- you have one specific Gift; ie super-strength, flight, etc. Like superpowers, but fantasy. Ok sidebar over).

MIKKA- -another main character -traveling mercenary who has been staying at Sori’s Library for a while now -considering becoming a Librarian himself -Sori’s best friend. -also non-Gifted. but he has a sword. -generally just a chill guy -absolutely could kill you though. But why would he. That would be mean.

‘FIREFLY’- -that’s totally his real name dw guyss -arrives at Sori’s Library and stays there for No Particular Reason He’s Not Hiding From Anything Trust Me Guys -also non-Gifted, but he is an alchemist. -(that probably means something different from what you’re thinking) -he might not be succeeding but he sure is Trying

TAI -Nin’s sister -bark is bigger than her bite -non-Gifted but not exactly a normal human either (catgirl)

~Elders are people who have managed to gather a lot of power in one way or another, and now can do special things. Also they live for 1000 years; hence the Elder part.

~Elders can ‘sponsor’ people if they have their names, which means they can grant them some abilities and what-not.

~Also, names hold power. Be careful.

~the plot expanding and elaborating on itself with a rapidity that both surprises and intimdates me

here have some random worldbuilding info 

-there are 4 countries, Solace, Ketra, Shyi, and Amora. Amora is not technically a country. It’s complicated. There is also Tali, which is conquered by Solace and technically not a country but that’s also complicated to be honest.

-Solace is the most relevant because that’s where the protagonists are. The capital of Solace is Solace. It is also called The Golden City because that is confusing.

-Solace and Shyi do not get along. Solace and Ketra have a treaty and generally get along. Shyi and Ketra do not get along (Shyi is mad because they tried to conquer Ketra and it didn’t work). The Amorians do not get along with anyone, though this is rarely their fault.

-A few decades ago, Solace had a civil war wherein they swapped out their old royal family for a new royal family. This part is very relevant to the plot.

SHANNON ROSE- -Felix’s younger twin brother -scholar -busy Doing Research -bit naive to be honest.  -we love him anyway -just a Little Guy -can really hold a grudge -really looks up to Felix, good thing Fe isn’t, say, hiding any incredibly big secrets that have the potential to shatter their relationship, right? :)

HELEN WHITEHALL- -a goddess among women -(alright maybe I’m being a little dramatic) -Dating Felix. -pureblooded Solite noble -not supposed to be dating Felix, who is half Amorian. currently ignoring that. -significantly more prone to shenanigans and mischief than anyone really guesses -i love her

BRICRIU CALLAN -friend of Felix’s -morally grey af -great fun to write

VALENTIN -cinnamon roll of a boy -baffled by the plot but doing his best anyway

i explain affinities to you-

~So basically, everyone in this world is born with what is called an Affinity.

~This means they can manipulate a little bit of the world (which little bit depends on the affinity).

~list of affinities; fire, water, air, earth, growth, decay, light, animal, aether, sight, humanity, city, fortune, and enhancement.

~Affinities are heriditary and not recessive (IE, if your parents both have fire affinities, so will you), except for the Family Affinities.

~’but Rose what’s a Family Affinity’ 

~Basically, there’s four families (Solena, Lune, Maris, and Itris) who hav affinities that belong only to them. Within the families, they work as above, but once you get a generation removed from the main bloodline, their affinities (humanity, city, fortune, and enhancement) mysteriously just. Stop appearing. Nobody knows why that is.

~I reiterate, everyone has an affinity!

~except sometimes they don’t.

~except sometimes they have aether (can manipulate everything) which is actually VERY BAD.

~this brings us to the plot.

The Plot-

~meet Felice and Kiseki, they’re the protagonists and also twins

~Felice has No Affinity!

~(Felice does not need an affinity, she has a gun)

~(this is surprisingly effective because nobody thinks about guns when they have, say, Magic Fire)

~(Magic Fire is quite a bad defense against being shot, unfortunately for People Who Are Not Felice)

~Kiseki has Aether! This is bad. It means he is probably going to explode, and should really already have done so

~Felice would like that not to happen, thank you very much.

~They are on the hunt for an artifact that is supposed to help with Kiseki not exploding

~They arrive in Mercy City on their search, and are immediately sidetracked by the ridiculous amount of people with agendas in this book.

FELICE VENTURA- -hey remember her she’s the main character -as previously mentioned, No Affinity -this does not make much of an effect on her in any way concievable -it does make it a bit of a pain to get through customs though, as she has to convince them she’s not hiding an affinity in her pants somehow. that usually takes a bit. -knows how to pilot a bunch of things

KISEKI TERRIS- -hey remember him he’s also the main character -as previously mentioned, has Aether -this means he can manipulate the aether. this means a lot of things. -most relevantly, this means he should really have exploded by now since the human body isn’t designed to handle that much energy -constantly wears affinity surpressors, which is very uncomfortable for him -also a pain to get through customs

CADEN SOLENA- -i love him dearly & want to put him in a blender <3 -charming bastard -heir to the Solena family, has the Solena affinity of Humanity. -this means he can heal and/or brainwash people.

SOPHIE LLYR -Caden’s braincells & moral compass -scholar -has the affinity of Air -she can fly!

THOMAS DARIS -Joy’s bodyguard. -very nice -has the affinity of Fire -former soldier. really badass.

JOY ITRIS -heir to the Itris family, has the Itris affinity of Enhancement -this means she’s basically an enhanced version of a human -little menace /affectionate

~post-apocalyptic setting with the wrecks of modern cities scattered about.

(post-apocalyptic is a very fun word to say)

~people called scrappers who go into the ruined cities and collect useful stuff to bring back to the new cities

~a majority of scrappers are teenagers since being a scrapper means you need to be small and agile, and more teenagers fit that description than adults.

~it’s been a while since the Cataclysm (the apocalypse part of post-apocalyptic) so there’s a pretty thriving society set up with a rather baffling mixture of technologies

~the main cast are a scrapping crew

~they live in a flying ship! with wings! (thank you @cloudsthatglowinthenightsky)

~also there’s the Mist. It’s… well it’s mist. But like. Magical mist. It’s concentrated around the old cities for some reason.

~spending time in or near the Mist isn’t good for humans. It makes you a bit funky (and also kills you if you stay in it long enough)

~most scrappers are a bit funky

~Lute is Oddly Normal when you consider that. I’m sure that doesn’t mean anything

~also there’s pirates. forgot to mention that. they steal things from scrappers mostly

Heya!!! I’m doing ok, though recently I stayed offline more due to mental health (I’m fine for the time being)

As for SotCS, there’s no new material as of late. Been considering redoing the whole fic for a fresher start, but I don’t think I can write something worth reading anymore.

It’s really a shame, I used to be a bit creative back in my younger days. I feel frustrated, but I'll think about it. But hey, it's not the end of the line :)

On a lighter note for art, there are potential ideas I want to explore (plus doing a bit of research). Maybe tease a little here and there, but we'll wait and see.
