A shy child, she prefers her prayers and pearls to the hefty politics her Father and brothers have no choice but to partake in but war will reach into her life quicker than she could ever know.... Across the sea, in England, the Wars of the Roses rages, a bloody battle for the throne between the royal Houses of York and Lancaster where a word weighs as much as the swing of a sword. Amidst it all, stands Edward of York, the handsome eldest son to the Duke of York, a young knight, eager to fight but forced to flee England in 1459 when the Lancastrian King and Queen overpower his family forces at Ludlow Castle. With his Neville cousins (one being the infamous Earl of Warwick) Edward sails to France where Warwick begins his plots to regain the House of York power. It is as a result of these plots, Edward and Constance are destined to meet. Worlds apart, they will be matched for the benefit of others but when tragedy strikes at the very heart of the House of York, forcing Edward closer to the throne than ever, they find they are, perhaps, what each other needs. Amongst the tangled nest of vipers, surrounded by bloodied thorns, will they keep the crowns destiny calls for them to claim?

On This Day In Royal History . 16 March 1485 . Anne Neville, died . ◼ Anne Neville died on 16 March 1485, probably of tuberculosis, at Westminster. The day she died, there was an eclipse, which some took to be an omen of her husband’s fall from heavenly grace. She was buried in Westminster Abbey, in an unmarked grave to the right of the High Altar, next to the door to the Confessor’s Chapel. Richard III is said to have wept at her funeral. . ◼ Lady Anne Neville (born 11 June 1456) was an English queen, the daughter of Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick (the “Kingmaker”). She became Princess of Wales as the wife of Edward of Westminster & then Queen of England as the wife of King Richard III. . ◼ As a member of the powerful House of Neville, she played a critical part in the Wars of the Roses fought between the House of York & House of Lancaster for the English crown. Her father Warwick betrothed her as a girl to Edward, Prince of Wales, the son of Henry VI. The marriage was to seal an alliance to the House of Lancaster & continue the civil war between the two houses of Lancaster & York. . ◼ After the death of Edward at the Battle of Tewkesbury 1471, the Dowager Princess of Wales married Richard, Duke of Gloucester, brother of Edward IV & of George, Duke of Clarence, the husband of Anne Neville’s older sister Isabel. . ◼ Anne Neville became queen when Richard III ascended the throne in June 1483, following the declaration that Edward IV’s children by Elizabeth Woodville were illegitimate. Anne Neville predeceased her husband by five months, dying in March 1485. Her only child was Edward of Middleham, who predeceased her. . ◼ There was no memorial to Queen Anne until 1960, when a bronze tablet was erected on a wall near her grave by the @richardiiisociety . . . #Onthisdayinhistory #Thisdayinhistory #TheYear1485 #QueenAnne #AnneNeville #QueenofEngland #HouseofYork #RichardIII #KingRichardIII #HistoricEngland #historyfacts #RoyalFamily #Royalty #History #Monarchy #d16mar #PrinceofWales #warsoftheroses #Onthisday #thequeen #EnglishMonarchy #RoyalHistory #RoyalFamily #TheQueen #OnThisDay #BritishMonarchy #Westminster #London #otd (at Westminster) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMeUt1TjefN/?igshid=9oujjczq3q8p

17th August 1510, execution upon the orders of Henry VIII of Edmund Dudley, and Richard Empson for treason. Both men had served in the court of Henry’s father Henry VII, the first Tudor king. Upon attaining the throne the previous year, Henry VIII ordered the arrest of Dudley and Empson for the apparent charge of assembling arms during his father’s last illness, especially in the case of Dudley. The actual reason is more likely to have been their unpopularity stemming from their financial management of Henry VII’s kingdom. Both men were executed at the Tower of London. Edmund Dudley’s son John was also later executed at the Tower on the 22nd August 1553, for attempting to install Lady Jane Grey as Queen after the death of Henry VIII’s son Edward VI. John Dudley’s son Robert Dudley, was the favourite and potential suitor of Elizabeth Ist, whose intervention during the failed attempt to install lady Jane Grey on the throne saved him from execution. The same fate as his father and grandfather. 19th August 1399, English King Richard II surrenders and abdicates the throne to his cousin Henry Bolingbroke at Flint Castle. Richard had banished Henry earlier in the year, following the death of Henry's father and Richard’s Uncle John of Gaunt, who had held the reins of power during Richard’s young reign. Returning with an army Henry had recruited many nobles who were disenfranchised by Richard’s paranoia, which over the years had morphed into a reign of tyranny and megalomania. Held in Pontefract Castle Richard died, probably by starvation in 1400. 22nd August 1485, King Richard III is defeated and killed at the Battle of Bosworth Field by Henry Tudor, the battle becomes one of the defining moments (continued in the comments) #williamshakespeare #henryviii #tudor #tudorhistory #henryvii #toweroflondon #toweroflondon🇬🇧 #ladyjanegrey #robertdudley #richardii #henrybolingbroke #johnofgaunt #richardiii #warsoftheroses #bosworthfield #plantagenet #plantagenets #houseofyork #houseoflancaster #yorkist #lancastrian #englishhistory #medievaltimes #medievalhistory #medievalhistorylovers #renaissancehistory #latemedieval #thisdayinhistory #15thcentury #16thcentury https://www.instagram.com/p/CSzWdHNnfNH/?utm_medium=tumblr

I've been looking forward to this one since I started the series. Lady Margaret Pole, once a Plantagenet Princess, absolutely fascinates me and Philippa Gregory just keeps getting better at telling the stories of these amazing women. #philippagregory #thetudors #theplantagenets #warsoftheroses (at Ipswich, Suffolk) https://www.instagram.com/p/CIr_b8eDuV3/?igshid=nrs4lkh806a9
