EFFIGY OF HENRY VII
Henry VII was King of England and Lord of Ireland from his seizure of the crown on 22 August 1485 until his death in 1509. He was the first monarch of the House of Tudor.
Henry VII died of tuberculosis at Richmond Palace on 21 April 1509 and was buried in the chapel he commissioned in Westminster Abbey next to his wife, Elizabeth. He was succeeded by his second son, Henry VII.
The effigy has such breathtaking detail that it was probably made from a death mask.

On this day in royal history . 28th January 1457 . King Henry VII was born . . ◼ Henry was born at Pembroke Castle in Wales on 28 January 1457 to the 13-year-old Margaret Beaufort, Countess of Richmond. His father, Edmund Tudor, 1st Earl of Richmond, died three months before his birth. . ◼ Born Henry Tudor, he later became king Henry VII & was the founder of the Tudor dynasty, unifying the warring factions in the Wars of the Roses. Although supported by Lancastrians & Yorkists alienated by Richard III’s usurpation, Henry VII’s first task was to secure his position. In 1486 he married Elizabeth of York, eldest daughter of Edward IV, thus uniting the Houses of York & Lancaster. . ◼ Henry’s reign (1485-1509) was troubled by revolts, sometimes involving pretenders (such as Perkin Warbeck & Lambert Simnel) who impersonated Edward V or his brother. With this in mind, n 1485, Henry formed a personal bodyguard from his followers known as the ‘Yeomen of the Guard’ (the oldest military corps in existence today). . ◼ Henry strengthened the power of the monarchy by using traditional methods of government to tighten royal administration & increase revenues (reportedly including a daily examination of accounts). Royal income rose from an annual average of £52,000 to £142,000 by the end of Henry’s reign. Little co-operation between King & Parliament was required; during Henry’s reign of 24 years, seven Parliaments sat for some ten & a half months. . ◼ Henry used dynastic royal marriages to establish his dynasty in England & help maintain peace. One daughter, Margaret, was married to James IV of Scotland (from whom Mary, Queen of Scots & her son, James VI of Scotland & James I of England, were descended); the other daughter married Louis XII of France. . ▪ Henry spent money shrewdly & left a full treasury on his death in 1509. . . . #OnThisDayInHistory #ThisDayinHistory #HenryTudor #HenryVII #KingHenryVII #HisMajesty #HouseofTudor #TheTudors #Royalty #TheTudors #TudorDynasty #History #Monarchy #KingofEngland #EnglishMonarchy #D28Jan #BritishMonarchy #Pembroke #wales #Tudor #heritage #Theking #Monarch #artoftheday #RoyalCollection #onthisday #royalfamily #Historic #otd (at Pembroke Castle) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKmx9EEjTV9/?igshid=65aw5wpvshwk

17th August 1510, execution upon the orders of Henry VIII of Edmund Dudley, and Richard Empson for treason. Both men had served in the court of Henry’s father Henry VII, the first Tudor king. Upon attaining the throne the previous year, Henry VIII ordered the arrest of Dudley and Empson for the apparent charge of assembling arms during his father’s last illness, especially in the case of Dudley. The actual reason is more likely to have been their unpopularity stemming from their financial management of Henry VII’s kingdom. Both men were executed at the Tower of London. Edmund Dudley’s son John was also later executed at the Tower on the 22nd August 1553, for attempting to install Lady Jane Grey as Queen after the death of Henry VIII’s son Edward VI. John Dudley’s son Robert Dudley, was the favourite and potential suitor of Elizabeth Ist, whose intervention during the failed attempt to install lady Jane Grey on the throne saved him from execution. The same fate as his father and grandfather. 19th August 1399, English King Richard II surrenders and abdicates the throne to his cousin Henry Bolingbroke at Flint Castle. Richard had banished Henry earlier in the year, following the death of Henry's father and Richard’s Uncle John of Gaunt, who had held the reins of power during Richard’s young reign. Returning with an army Henry had recruited many nobles who were disenfranchised by Richard’s paranoia, which over the years had morphed into a reign of tyranny and megalomania. Held in Pontefract Castle Richard died, probably by starvation in 1400. 22nd August 1485, King Richard III is defeated and killed at the Battle of Bosworth Field by Henry Tudor, the battle becomes one of the defining moments (continued in the comments) #williamshakespeare #henryviii #tudor #tudorhistory #henryvii #toweroflondon #toweroflondon🇬🇧 #ladyjanegrey #robertdudley #richardii #henrybolingbroke #johnofgaunt #richardiii #warsoftheroses #bosworthfield #plantagenet #plantagenets #houseofyork #houseoflancaster #yorkist #lancastrian #englishhistory #medievaltimes #medievalhistory #medievalhistorylovers #renaissancehistory #latemedieval #thisdayinhistory #15thcentury #16thcentury https://www.instagram.com/p/CSzWdHNnfNH/?utm_medium=tumblr

The Tudor Elements - I
‘Six women.
Six elements.
 One world.
These women are the most powerful to ever come.
No one can claim them.
They are no one’s property.
They are simply their own.
And no Tudor can take that away from them.’
Henry VII, the current ruler of the Tudor Kingdom stared at the glass prophecy ball. No Tudor can take that away from then. What does that mean? That his son wouldn’t be able to conquer them. That wouldn’t happen on his watch.
Adding something to the letter, he placed it into the future box.
My heir shall be Henry VIII……
His eyes gazed at the last sentence.
If the six women from the prophecy ever emerge, the King is allowed and must do everything he can in his power to stop them from ever becoming more powerful than him. He shall claim them for himself.

THE WHITE PRINCESS
2017
The White Princess is a historical fiction miniseries based on Philippa Gregory’s novel (2013). It’s a bit silly, inaccurate, and not the best of Gregory’s work. However, those interested in the Tudor era may want to check this out. The White Princess is based on the marriage between Elizabeth of York and King Henry VII.
The miniseries stars: Jodie Comer (Elizabeth of York) and Jacob Collins-Levy (Henry VII).
It was filmed in Bradford on Avon, Bristol, Berkeley Castle, Gloucester Cathedral, Lacock, Salisbury Cathedral and Wells.

The First Tudor Queen
I wrote this initially in 2010, this is an updated version of it.  ~ Astrya   The whole of England had turned out,  to see the daughter of good king Hal crowned.  Her heart pounded as she closed her pale blue eyes,  Acutely aware of that she held the Septar and Orb. A small smile crept across her lips,  as she felt the crown of Saint George sit on her head.  If only her mother could see her now,  fulfilling the destiny she had seen for her.  Her father had tried to deny her birthright,  by labeling her a bastard and placing Elizabeth above her.  All his efforts had gone to waste, despite all of this she wondered if he would be proud.  The heaviness made her heart sink,  as memories of days long since past flashed across her mind.  She opened her eyes as the Archbishop turned to the crowd that had gathered, “Long live Queen Mary!” he shouted, as the common people could be heard outside of Westminister.
