A shy child, she prefers her prayers and pearls to the hefty politics her Father and brothers have no choice but to partake in but war will reach into her life quicker than she could ever know.... Across the sea, in England, the Wars of the Roses rages, a bloody battle for the throne between the royal Houses of York and Lancaster where a word weighs as much as the swing of a sword. Amidst it all, stands Edward of York, the handsome eldest son to the Duke of York, a young knight, eager to fight but forced to flee England in 1459 when the Lancastrian King and Queen overpower his family forces at Ludlow Castle. With his Neville cousins (one being the infamous Earl of Warwick) Edward sails to France where Warwick begins his plots to regain the House of York power. It is as a result of these plots, Edward and Constance are destined to meet. Worlds apart, they will be matched for the benefit of others but when tragedy strikes at the very heart of the House of York, forcing Edward closer to the throne than ever, they find they are, perhaps, what each other needs. Amongst the tangled nest of vipers, surrounded by bloodied thorns, will they keep the crowns destiny calls for them to claim?

the pearl of christendom - the prologue
the pearl of christendom -  chapter zero : the young raven
richard iii x oc (cora of lancaster)
warnings :: i don’t think there are any tbh. let me know if i missed any.
Tumblr media
the princess coraline was a beautiful  child, with ginger curls and piercing blue eyes, from the start. born into the house of lancaster in 1456, cora was destined for greatness. her father doted on her, despite her older brother being his heir. while her mother was standoff-ish towards her, she learned to love her only daughter. like any princess of the time, cora was given the best possible education, and had an extremely above average intelligence. it seemed she could read faster, understand more languages, bake, and paint, all while doing a near perfect pirouette. she was a beautiful woman, as well, but she cared little for looks. when cora was five, her father’s throne was stolen by their cousin, edward iv, formerly known as “edward of york ''. her family was just barely able to escape the country, in favor of her mother’s motherland, france. in fact, she never really remembered england. the young girl grew up at the court of her maternal cousin, where she was labeled “the pearl of christendom” by a multitude of ambassadors. when cora was twelve, she did the unthinkable; she took a lover.
and it wasn’t any regular lover, but a lady-in-waiting to the queen, and daughter of the duke of aquitaine, lady aryana. the two were never one without another. they hid their relationship until her mother walked into her chambers, unannounced and saw them kissing. aryana was thrown out of the room, the door slamming behind her. it became evident her heart broke. she wore mourning attire, despite no one dying.  when she was fourteen, she would be taken back to england, as her father sat upon the throne again. she knew he was her mother’s puppet, as was her brother. but coraline had no intention of being someone’s paw. cora was a princess in her own right, an educated scholar, beloved by the french people. that made her a problem. she rode into town with her brother and mother into the home they once knew. while it was her home, it didn’t look it. the yorks had gotten rid of everything, including her multitude of instruments. her ladies-in-waiting helped her get into her rooms. a porcelain hand belonging to the princess slid across the books left on her desk. she was fifteen by that point, and yet she had lived a great life. she was witty and intelligent, and called people out, but she was also a god-like figure to the people. it was well known cora was favored over her brother by almost everyone, except her mother. cora knew her life wouldn’t go back to what it was. hell, she was five when she left. so while she was an english princess- she knew nothing of it’s people, and she intended to learn. she would go and give the people bread, and books, and coins, and toys for the children. she was even painted a portrait of her while she played with the village’s children. as beloved as the yorks were, a storm was coming. no- not a storm. a raven flew over her head as she came to face edward of york’s youngest brother. her breath hitching in her throat as her piercing blue eyes grabbed hold of richard’s soul.

And finally, the original King of Bling, Edward IV! (sorry Charlie Two! we still love ya!)
Tumblr media
___admittedly this one has more creative license used, compared to the other two! This one being mostly based on his most well known 'near' comtemporary portrait (the ca. 1540 one with the green background) plus the blue robe from the MS Royal 15 illumination pic, but worn open and without the fur collar and heavy gold neckalace, since this is his day off! 😄 also made his hat purple and gave him purple poulaines, since 'twould be such a waste to NOT use purple on somebody at the very top of the medieval pecking order! 😆
TAKE NOTE: 97% complete, the 'diapering' patterns on his robe and tunic not finished but Edward waited soooo long for me to upload him, that he got impatient, and even threatened to shove me in a barrel of Diet Coke if I didn't upload him TODAY! 😂😆😅
(I will 'slow but sure' work on that! keep watching this space)
...and yes, the real Edward IV...was (most likely) a brunette! 😉
belatedly tagging @lady-plantagenet (now he's more or less 98.7% complete!)

On This Day In History . 2 November 1470 . Edward V was born . 👑 Edward was born at Cheyneygates, the medieval house of the Abbot of Westminster, adjoining Westminster Abbey. His mother, Elizabeth Woodville, had sought sanctuary there from Lancastrians who had deposed his father, the Yorkist King Edward IV, during the course of the Wars of the Roses. . . About Edward; . ◼ Edward V was King of England from his father Edward IV’s death on 9 April 1483 until 26 June of the same year. He was never crowned, & his 86-day reign was dominated by the influence of his uncle & Lord Protector, Richard, Duke of Gloucester, who succeeded him as Richard III on 26 June 1483; this was confirmed by the Act entitled Titulus Regius, which denounced any further claims through his father’s heirs. . ◼ Edward and his younger brother Richard of Shrewsbury, Duke of York, were the Princes in the Tower who disappeared after being sent to heavily guarded royal lodgings in the Tower of London. Responsibility for their deaths was widely attributed to Richard III, but the lack of any solid evidence & conflicting contemporary accounts suggest four other primary suspects. . ◼ Along with Edward VIII, and the disputed Matilda & Jane, Edward V is one of four English monarchs since the Norman Conquest never to have been crowned. As it is generally assumed that he died close to the time of his disappearance, he is the shortest-lived male monarch in English history, his great-nephew, who was crowned Edward VI, died in his sixteenth year. . . Stolen from her bed by her family's Neville rivals and carried unwillingly away from all she has ever known, young Catherine suddenly finds herself thrust into a world of war she had only ever heard in stories. 12th October 1537, birth of Edward VI, only son of Henry VIII, and Tudor, King of England from 1547 to 1553, the first English monarch to be raised and educated as a Protestant. Although crowned at the age of nine, his reign was supervised by a regency council led by his uncle Edward Seymour, brother of Jane Seymour, Henry VIII’s third wife. After only six years after he was crowned, Edward began to show signs of illness, with a persistent cough and fever that got worse in successive months, until he began to cough up blood, and by July was "thin and wasted"; telling his tutor John Cheke that he was "‘glad to die". In order to ensure a Protestant successor to the throne, Edward named his first cousin Lady Jane Grey, who was born a day after Edward on the 13th October 1537, as his heir, excluding his half-sisters, Mary and Elizabeth. On the 6th July 1553, Edward finally died at 8pm. Four days later Lady Jane Grey was proclaimed Queen of England, reigning for nine days before being deposed by supporters of Mary, who later would be known to history as ‘Bloody Mary’. Arrested for high treason, and imprisoned in the Tower of London, Lady Jane Grey was initially spared by Mary, but finally executed on the 12th February 1554, becoming immortalised as the ‘Nine days’ Queen’. Most historians believe that Edward died of a combination of tuberculosis, measles and smallpox. There was however suspicions upon the death that Edward was secretly poisoned by either the Duke of Northumberland, Lady Jane Grey’s father in law John Dudley, or by Catholics plotting to return England to Catholicism under Mary.
