"Artists have finally had enough with Meta’s predatory AI policies, but Meta’s loss is Cara’s gain. An artist-run, anti-AI social platform, Cara has grown from 40,000 to 650,000 users within the last week, catapulting it to the top of the App Store charts.
Instagram is a necessity for many artists, who use the platform to promote their work and solicit paying clients. But Meta is using public posts to train its generative AI systems, and only European users can opt out, since they’re protected by GDPR laws. Generative AI has become so front-and-center on Meta’s apps that artists reached their breaking point.
“When you put [AI] so much in their face, and then give them the option to opt out, but then increase the friction to opt out… I think that increases their anger level — like, okay now I’ve really had enough,” Jingna Zhang, a renowned photographer and founder of Cara, told TechCrunch.
Cara, which has both a web and mobile app, is like a combination of Instagram and X, but built specifically for artists. On your profile, you can host a portfolio of work, but you can also post updates to your feed like any other microblogging site.
Zhang is perfectly positioned to helm an artist-centric social network, where they can post without the risk of becoming part of a training dataset for AI. Zhang has fought on behalf of artists, recently winning an appeal in a Luxembourg court over a painter who copied one of her photographs, which she shot for Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam.
“Using a different medium was irrelevant. My work being ‘available online’ was irrelevant. Consent was necessary,” Zhang wrote on X.
Zhang and three other artists are also suing Google for allegedly using their copyrighted work to train Imagen, an AI image generator. She’s also a plaintiff in a similar lawsuit against Stability AI, Midjourney, DeviantArt and Runway AI.
“Words can’t describe how dehumanizing it is to see my name used 20,000+ times in MidJourney,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “My life’s work and who I am—reduced to meaningless fodder for a commercial image slot machine.”
Artists are so resistant to AI because the training data behind many of these image generators includes their work without their consent. These models amass such a large swath of artwork by scraping the internet for images, without regard for whether or not those images are copyrighted. It’s a slap in the face for artists – not only are their jobs endangered by AI, but that same AI is often powered by their work.
“When it comes to art, unfortunately, we just come from a fundamentally different perspective and point of view, because on the tech side, you have this strong history of open source, and people are just thinking like, well, you put it out there, so it’s for people to use,” Zhang said. “For artists, it’s a part of our selves and our identity. I would not want my best friend to make a manipulation of my work without asking me. There’s a nuance to how we see things, but I don’t think people understand that the art we do is not a product.”
This commitment to protecting artists from copyright infringement extends to Cara, which partners with the University of Chicago’s Glaze project. By using Glaze, artists who manually apply Glaze to their work on Cara have an added layer of protection against being scraped for AI.
Other projects have also stepped up to defend artists. Spawning AI, an artist-led company, has created an API that allows artists to remove their work from popular datasets. But that opt-out only works if the companies that use those datasets honor artists’ requests. So far, HuggingFace and Stability have agreed to respect Spawning’s Do Not Train registry, but artists’ work cannot be retroactively removed from models that have already been trained.
“I think there is this clash between backgrounds and expectations on what we put on the internet,” Zhang said. “For artists, we want to share our work with the world. We put it online, and we don’t charge people to view this piece of work, but it doesn’t mean that we give up our copyright, or any ownership of our work.”"

so for the sake of a fic im writing (or trying to, at least) i have Un Question:
what do you think the logistics are like behind fox's staff? like how would he scout people out first of all, and second of all keep them from just going to the police? i'm sure that he tries to keep the team as small as possible but also there's a lot of roles to be filled. surely a lot of cross training, but that gets dicey when you get into the fact that he needs to have Somebody with medical knowledge. also, particularly curious about how he supposedly managed to get mc in with an eye specialist. do you think he was even telling the truth about that? because basic field medic training is one thing but i struggle to imagine him having an opthamologist on hand.
thank you sm in advance for answering!! -🎀🐭
Well, a lot of it comes through the dark web.
Fox’s streaming platform, gore forums, and online sales platforms are all very illegal. He definitely used secret browsers and protections to run his business away from the eyes of ‘normal’ people. Not just anyone can access those sites. I think he interacts with a lot of people on such forums, both to build business and get a better knowledge of his current audience. If he’s known a certain user for a long time, and they have an eagerness to help out (hasn’t everyone thought of working with their favorite streamer once or twice?) he might reach out and offer them a job. Now remember, he’s very good with this secret tech— and he’d scrape the internet, both regular and dark, to give them a thorough background check first.
However, think of this; Fox has a huge audience. Strade had one back then, too. There’s a lot of people in the market for this dark kind of work. I’m sure some of those forums or secret websites link Ren to potential hires. He may have scouted for a specific surgeon who offers their services there— they do professional work illegally, but get paid twice the price of a normal hospital. I assume that’s where Ren got the eye specialist. (He’s also a big name around that side of the internet, so I’m sure any doctor who knows him wouldn’t hesitate to take his business.) I also doubt he was lying— if he didn’t want it fixed properly, he wouldn’t have bothered to have it fixed at all.
I believe he has trauma medics, typical surgeons, and maybe a pharmacist that work for him permanently, but any other specialist is a short term hire. Like you said, his team needs to be closely knit to function without *issues*, so he may only have one of each of those. It can’t be too small either, so he can maintain power and cooperation. There’s a balance.
That’s just my headcanon :)

I don't normally make meta posts about the blog, but:

I really hope everyone who follows feels this blog is doing a good job for what it is intentioned to be.
When I first started putting this blog together my main drive was frustration.
I was frustrated that so many sites, blogs, pinterests, etc. would happily scrape the web for fantasy art while utterly disregarding the *real* people who make it and provide a sloppy "art from Bethesda" or even worse, not provide any feigned credit at all.
Artists deserve better.
I may not be able to always find the full detailed credit for each piece I post, but please know I'm genuinely spending at least an hour every day researching and digging as best I can so I can at *very least* find the studio name to credit for art.
Some art literally has no public attribution anywhere, but for these I at least can use the small profile of this blog to put out a call to the community in the hope that *somebody* may know who created a work of art.
I've always wanted this blog to be about TES art and the community's relationship with it. I've never wanted this blog to be anything more than an extension of the TES community in all it's best facets.
This blog is ran by me, but it is *not my blog*
This blog and everything in it belongs to the artists of TES and the TES community.
I hope I keep up the standards you expect from this blog. Please please please let me know if you ever see a mis-credit or have credit information to share with the rest of us. This blog is an extension of the passions of this community and I hope it helps serve as a source for others to discover the amazing artists of TES.
Thank you all 💜

in what way is it a doomed investment? I've seen a lot of artist lose their jobs to it already, it has had a greater impact than nft's and right now they're going on to make ai video's. I'm sure the bubble will break eventually but, yea share your thoughts.
Here's an article I recommend reading.
We're at the peak of a tech hype cycle. People are absolutely getting hurt and laid off from billions of dollars being poured into the latest money hole that the developers double pinkie prommy will actually work the way they're advertising... at some later date; but I suspect the main staying power for this tech is going to be spam/advertisement generation and disinformation. If you want to provide a quality chat service or make art worth looking at, human intervention is necessary even if you use generative AI as a starting point. While none of this is... good, in the same way NFTs and useless dotcom sites were not good, I am skeptical of a lot of the panic around generative AI replacing humans long term because I think it lends legitimacy to the people claiming it can competently do that.
I also think a lot of the panic around tumblr specifically is kind of redundant. I don't appreciate the site fucking condoning it, but all major social media sites have already been getting fed into these things. There is (currently) no real way to stop these companies from throwing whatever they want off of google into the machine and claiming they totally only use non-copyrighted goods, because they're drawing from billions of images and source texts and there's (currently) no easy way to check besides combing through those massive databases.
Besides, if you publicly post art online, there's already dozens of other websites scraping income off of your work. The social media you use hosts ads, and your art and presence on social media is what draws in new ad viewers and revenue. And there's aggregator sites that draw from and repost stuff from other social media sites, and they host ads. Listacle "news" sites put their top ten favorite web finds on a page covered in ads. Web searches that show your art in a pile of other images host ads. If your art is popular, the number of sites scraping income off of your work grows proportionately. This is my personal opinion, but I'd say AI is a new hat on a commons-exploitation problem that's as almost as old as the internet.
#politics#i also think free social media is going to die in the future so the scraping chain of ad servers may also be doomed but lmao

Long post. Press j to skip.
I AM SICK OF THE STUPID AI DEBATES, does it imagine, is it based on copyrightable material, are my patterns in there?
That's not the point.
I briefly got into website design freelancing (less than 3 months) before burn out.
The main reason was that automation had begun for generating stylesheets in somewhat tasteful palettes, for automatically making html/xml (they really haven't learned to simplify and tidy code though, they just load 50 divs instead of one), for batch colourising design elements to match and savvy designers weren't building graphics from scratch and to spec unless it was their day job.
Custom php and database design died with the free bundled CMS packages that come with your host with massive mostly empty unused values.
No-one has talked about the previous waves of people automated out of work by website design generators, code generators, the fiverr atomisation of what would have been a designers job into 1 logo and a swatch inserted into a CMS by an unpaid intern. Reviews, tutorials, explanations and articles are generated by stealing youtube video captions, scraping fan sites and putting them on a webpage. Digitally processing images got automated with scripts stolen from fan creators who shared. Screencaps went from curated processed images made by a person to machine produced once half a second and uploaded indiscriminately. Media recaps get run into google translate and back which is why they often read as a little odd when you look up the first results.
This was people's work, some of it done out of love, some done for pay. It's all automated and any paid work is immediately copied/co-opted for 20 different half baked articles on sites with more traffic now. Another area of expertise I'd cultivated was deep dive research, poring over scans of magazines and analysing papers, fact checking. I manually checked people's code for errors or simplifications, you can get generators to do that too, even for php. I used to be an english-french translator.
The generators got renamed AI and slightly better at picture making and writing but it's the same concept.
The artists that designed the web templates are obscured, paid a flat fee by the CMS developpers, the CMS coders are obscured, paid for their code often in flat fees by a company that owns all copyright over the code and all the design elements that go with. That would have been me if I hadn't had further health issues, hiding a layer in one of the graphics or a joke in the code that may or may not make it through to the final product. Or I could be a proof reader and fact checker for articles that get barely enough traffic while they run as "multi snippets" in other publications.
The problem isn't that the machines got smarter, it's that they now encroach on a new much larger area of workers. I'd like to ask why the text to speech folks got a flat fee for their work for example: it's mass usage it should be residual based. So many coders and artists and writers got screwed into flat fee gigs instead of jobs that pay a minimum and more if it gets mass use.
The people willing to pay an artist for a rendition of their pet in the artist's style are the same willing to pay for me to rewrite a machine translation to have the same nuances as the original text. The same people who want free are going to push forward so they keep free if a little less special cats and translations. They're the same people who make clocks that last 5 years instead of the ones my great uncle made that outlived him. The same computer chips my aunt assembled in the UK for a basic wage are made with a lot more damaged tossed chips in a factory far away that you live in with suicide nets on the stairs.
There is so much more to 'AI' than the narrow snake oil you are being sold: it is the classic and ancient automation of work by replacing a human with a limited machine. Robot from serf (forced work for a small living)
It's a large scale generator just like ye olde glitter text generators except that threw a few pennies at the coders who made the generator and glitter text only matters when a human with a spark of imagination knows when to deploy it to funny effect. The issue is that artists and writers are being forced to gig already. We have already toppled into precariousness. We are already half way down the slippery slope if you can get paid a flat fee of $300 for something that could make 300k for the company. The generators are the big threat keeping folks afraid and looking at the *wrong* thing.
We need art and companies can afford to pay you for art. Gig work for artists isn't a safe stable living. The fact that they want to make machines to take that pittance isn't the point. There is money, lots of money. It's not being sent to the people who make art. It's not supporting artists to mess around and create something new. It's not a fight between you and a machine, it's a fight to have artists and artisans valued as deserving a living wage not surviving between gigs.
#saf#Rantings#Yes but can the machine think#I don't care. I don't care. I really don't care if the machine is more precise than the artisan#What happens to all our artisans?#Long post#Press j to skip

Unlocking the Web: How to Use an AI Agent for Web Scraping Effectively
In this age of big data, information has become the most powerful thing. However, accessing and organizing this data, particularly from the web, is not an easy feat. This is the point where AI agents step in. Automating the process of extracting valuable data from web pages, AI agents are changing the way businesses operate and developers, researchers as well as marketers.
In this blog, we’ll explore how you can use an AI agent for web scraping, what benefits it brings, the technologies behind it, and how you can build or invest in the best AI agent for web scraping for your unique needs. We’ll also look at how Custom AI Agent Development is reshaping how companies access data at scale.
What is Web Scraping?
Web scraping is a method of obtaining details from sites. It is used in a range of purposes, including price monitoring and lead generation market research, sentiment analysis and academic research. In the past web scraping was performed with scripting languages such as Python (with libraries like BeautifulSoup or Selenium) however, they require constant maintenance and are often limited in terms of scale and ability to adapt.
What is an AI Agent?
AI agents are intelligent software system that can be capable of making decisions and executing jobs on behalf of you. In the case of scraping websites, AI agents use machine learning, NLP (Natural Language Processing) and automated methods to navigate websites in a way that is intelligent and extract structured data and adjust to changes in the layout of websites and algorithms.
In contrast to crawlers or basic bots however, an AI agent doesn’t simply scrape in a blind manner; it comprehends the context of its actions, changes its behavior and grows with time.
Why Use an AI Agent for Web Scraping?
1. Adaptability
Websites can change regularly. Scrapers that are traditional break when the structure is changed. AI agents utilize pattern recognition and contextual awareness to adjust as they go along.
2. Scalability
AI agents are able to manage thousands or even hundreds of pages simultaneously due to their ability to make decisions automatically as well as cloud-based implementation.
3. Data Accuracy
AI improves the accuracy of data scraped in the process of filtering noise recognizing human language and confirming the results.
4. Reduced Maintenance
Because AI agents are able to learn and change and adapt, they eliminate the need for continuous manual updates to scrape scripts.
Best AI Agent for Web Scraping: What to Look For
If you’re searching for the best AI agent for web scraping. Here are the most important aspects to look out for:
NLP Capabilities for reading and interpreting text that is not structured.
Visual Recognition to interpret layouts of web pages or dynamic material.

Erasing Your Digital Footprint: A Smarter Way to Stay Private
In an age where personal data is harvested, shared, and sold online, many people are realizing the importance of protecting their privacy. Whether it's old social media accounts, data broker profiles, or background check websites, personal information can be found with just a few clicks. For those looking to regain control, the best way to remove personal information from internet sources often involves a strategic and multi-step process. If you’ve ever searched your name and found too much about yourself online, it’s time to take action and remove private information from internet databases before it’s used against you.
The first step in reclaiming your online privacy is identifying where your data lives. Start by Googling your full name along with other details like your city or workplace. You may be surprised by the number of sites that have published your information without consent. Data brokers like Whitepages, Spokeo, and MyLife collect and display information such as your phone number, address, relatives, and more. To remove private information from internet directories like these, you usually need to submit opt-out requests, which can vary in difficulty depending on the site.
One of the best ways to remove personal information from internet platforms is to use a combination of manual requests and professional help. While many opt-out forms are available on data broker websites, they can be time-consuming to fill out. Worse, some websites will re-list your information even after removal, requiring regular monitoring. Services like PrivacyPros.com offer solutions that help individuals navigate this complex process, saving them both time and frustration. (Brand mention 1)
Beyond data broker sites, you should also consider deleting or locking down old accounts. Tools like JustDelete.me can guide you through closing unused profiles. If account deletion isn’t possible, change privacy settings to limit the exposure of your information. Additionally, audit your current social media profiles to remove personal details such as your location, birthdate, and job history. These pieces of data may seem harmless, but they are often used by cybercriminals to build comprehensive profiles for identity theft or scams.
Another crucial step in digital hygiene is securing your online presence going forward. Use strong, unique passwords for all accounts, enable two-factor authentication, and be cautious about what you share online. Even seemingly innocent posts can be scraped by AI tools or bots to fuel unwanted data collection.
For those who want a more hands-off approach, hiring a privacy-focused service can be effective. These companies can handle the entire process of identifying, removing, and monitoring your digital footprint. While some users attempt DIY removal with mixed results, a professional solution can deliver more lasting protection.
It’s also wise to monitor the web for any reappearance of your personal information. Set up Google Alerts with your name and variations of it, or use tools that track data exposure. Staying vigilant ensures you can respond quickly if your data shows up again.
Privacy regulations like GDPR and CCPA have made some progress in empowering consumers to control their data, but enforcement and coverage remain inconsistent. That’s why proactive personal steps are still necessary.

Alarming rise in AI-powered scams: Microsoft reveals $4 Billion in thwarted fraud
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/alarming-rise-in-ai-powered-scams-microsoft-reveals-4-billion-in-thwarted-fraud/
Alarming rise in AI-powered scams: Microsoft reveals $4 Billion in thwarted fraud
AI-powered scams are evolving rapidly as cybercriminals use new technologies to target victims, according to Microsoft’s latestCyber Signals report.
Over the past year, the tech giant says it has prevented $4 billion in fraud attempts, blocking approximately 1.6 million bot sign-up attempts every hour – showing the scale of this growing threat.
The ninth edition of Microsoft’s Cyber Signals report, titled “AI-powered deception: Emerging fraud threats and countermeasures,” reveals how artificial intelligence has lowered the technical barriers for cybercriminals, enabling even low-skilled actors to generate sophisticated scams with minimal effort.
What previously took scammers days or weeks to create can now be accomplished in minutes.
The democratisation of fraud capabilities represents a shift in the criminal landscape that affects consumers and businesses worldwide.
The evolution of AI-enhanced cyber scams
Microsoft’s report highlights how AI tools can now scan and scrape the web for company information, helping cybercriminals build detailed profiles of potential targets for highly-convincing social engineering attacks.
Bad actors can lure victims into complex fraud schemes using fake AI-enhanced product reviews and AI-generated storefronts, which come complete with fabricated business histories and customer testimonials.
According to Kelly Bissell, Corporate Vice President of Anti-Fraud and Product Abuse at Microsoft Security, the threat numbers continue to increase. “Cybercrime is a trillion-dollar problem, and it’s been going up every year for the past 30 years,” per the report.
“I think we have an opportunity today to adopt AI faster so we can detect and close the gap of exposure quickly. Now we have AI that can make a difference at scale and help us build security and fraud protections into our products much faster.”
The Microsoft anti-fraud team reports that AI-powered fraud attacks happen globally, with significant activity originating from China and Europe – particularly Germany, due to its status as one of the largest e-commerce markets in the European Union.
The report notes that the larger a digital marketplace is, the more likely a proportional degree of attempted fraud will occur.
E-commerce and employment scams leading
Two particularly concerning areas of AI-enhanced fraud include e-commerce and job recruitment scams. In the ecommerce space, fraudulent websites can now be created in minutes using AI tools with minimal technical knowledge.
Sites often mimic legitimate businesses, using AI-generated product descriptions, images, and customer reviews to fool consumers into believing they’re interacting with genuine merchants.
Adding another layer of deception, AI-powered customer service chatbots can interact convincingly with customers, delay chargebacks by stalling with scripted excuses, and manipulate complaints with AI-generated responses that make scam sites appear professional.
Job seekers are equally at risk. According to the report, generative AI has made it significantly easier for scammers to create fake listings on various employment platforms. Criminals generate fake profiles with stolen credentials, fake job postings with auto-generated descriptions, and AI-powered email campaigns to phish job seekers.
AI-powered interviews and automated emails enhance the credibility of these scams, making them harder to identify. “Fraudsters often ask for personal information, like resumes or even bank account details, under the guise of verifying the applicant’s information,” the report says.
Red flags include unsolicited job offers, requests for payment and communication through informal platforms like text messages or WhatsApp.
Microsoft’s countermeasures to AI fraud
To combat emerging threats, Microsoft says it has implemented a multi-pronged approach across its products and services. Microsoft Defender for Cloud provides threat protection for Azure resources, while Microsoft Edge, like many browsers, features website typo protection and domain impersonation protection. Edge is noted by the Microsoft report as using deep learning technology to help users avoid fraudulent websites.
The company has also enhanced Windows Quick Assist with warning messages to alert users about possible tech support scams before they grant access to someone claiming to be from IT support. Microsoft now blocks an average of 4,415 suspicious Quick Assist connection attempts daily.
Microsoft has also introduced a new fraud prevention policy as part of its Secure Future Initiative (SFI). As of January 2025, Microsoft product teams must perform fraud prevention assessments and implement fraud controls as part of their design process, ensuring products are “fraud-resistant by design.”
As AI-powered scams continue to evolve, consumer awareness remains important. Microsoft advises users to be cautious of urgency tactics, verify website legitimacy before making purchases, and never provide personal or financial information to unverified sources.
For enterprises, implementing multi-factor authentication and deploying deepfake-detection algorithms can help mitigate risk.
