#ask #digital art #I truly am grateful for the amount of people that not only read my journal-essay-thoughts on my comics #but also take the time to respond and/or write their own thoughts on the themes and scenes.#I really love taking apart stories and seeing how the threads weave together. Like flipping over an embroidered tapestry!#Some people thinks it ruins the illusion of what a story is - to me it *elevates* the experience to see the seams.#It's like knowing how they did the practical effects and stunts in a movie. It give you a deeper appreciation for the work that went into i #Thank you for acknowledging the work I put into every part of this project!#When I started drawing I....well...wasn't really the strongest with my visuals.#Humorously recapping scenes played off of my strengths (silly billying) and also just made the project *fun*.#But right from the start I also wanted to take my time and marinate on the themes and journal my thoughts.#I never really expected people to read them!#What might seem like a quick comic takes me several hours and I often spend a good bit of time with my tag essays too.#I owe so much to everyone who's dropped by to cheer me on and make this blog into part of the community.#to those who just lurk or drop by once in a blue moon - I thank you as well for coming along for the journey.#So even though it adds extra time; these little essays are a treat for you B*)

Only Acting by Kero Kero Bonito!! I want to make an animatic for Macaque using this song and some parts of Shadow Play and the s4 special.. although im still mapping it and deciding whether I want to use the radio edit or not lol

Ashton in Jrusar is so funny bc they're like. clearly a massive loser. its just that everybody else in Bells Hells is an even bigger loser and also doesn't know this city or really cities in general so whenever anything happens they just all turn to him like "Ashton 🥺 what do we do" like a bunch of baby ducklings who imprinted on a mangy street dog. and then Ashton takes them to a guy he knows who he has to bribe before they'll actually tell him anything or even just. not immediately kick him out of their establishment. and then this person tells Ashton they're proud of him and amazed he actually has friends now and he's just like fuck i know right. and the rest of the Hells are increasingly confused and concerned but they just keep it pushing and ask Ashton questions like, "have you ever had a bounty put on you before?" to which they're like "yeah I probably have one on me right now"

Two nice things this morning:

My new driver's licence came in the post, the photo's not bad and in fact my hair looks really good. I pulled off a Veronica Lake. I was really anxious about the way I looked that day so it's a relief as well as satisfying.

I just bought a new suit for autumn/winter and my mum just came to me excited and happy to show me a picture in a magazine she's reading of Jenna Ortega wearing a suit just like mine.

Then she had to ask me who Jenna Ortega is, but it was clear from the context that she was someone very smart and fashionable.

#I could only really say 'she's an actress' because i don't think she's ever heard of wednesday or death of a unicorn either #let alone 'she did the voice of brooklynn in camp cretaceous but they changed the voice actor for the sequel series chaos theory #and some fans were upset but I didn't actually notice the difference until I paused the end credits one day #to confirm that I just really saw 'isabella rosselini' in the cast list of my jurassic park cartoon show'#this reminds me i never did see beetlejuice beetlejuice #but I want to watch asterflix today #i'm not sure how i will feel about the fact that it uses modern music needle drops for comic effect #like part of the POINT of asterix's humour has always been projecting the present onto the past #and making up silly ancient versions of modern things #flintstones style #but 'boombastic'?#i think what's different for me is that it's not actually a silly ancient version of a modern thing like the band the rolling menhirs #(sorry the french but the rolling menhirs was a much funnier favourite band for justforkix than 'les monkiix')#(although perhaps not quite in character as justforkix is clearly a mod)#oh my gosh I have a really good asterix joke name okay okay #mods liked the who #the asterix version would be the quo #(yes I realise that's the ablative and doesn't quite mean 'who')#('the quod' would be more grammatical but wouldn't end in o like who so it's less funny visually)#damn I've just realised this doesn't work because fans of the band status quo call them 'the quo' so that's taken #well you've been on this journey with me from triumph to defeat #but what's really important is my hair looks good on my driver's licence and my mum was excited to show me jenna ortega's suit like mine

I love the shapes you use to draw machete, or really any character!! The way you draw noses, ears, bodies, fur, it looks like of I were to reach my hand out I could actually feel it, the bumps in the skin the squish of the flesh the softness of the hair. Not to mention the colors you use are very pleasing to the eye. So lovely... keep up the phenomenal work!!!

#that's actually one of the tricks I use when I'm having trouble getting the shape and form of something right #I try to visualize the thing right in front of me and rotate it around and look at it from different angles #and imagine that if I could touch it how flexible and yelding it would be and what the surface would feel like #since I don't shade my art very dutifully the sense of tangibility has to come from somewhere else #so I guess I'm putting a lot of eggs in the shape basket #and I try to give off the effect that despite the flatness of my style the things I draw still exist in 3d space and have weight and volume #I've talked about this before but man I love anatomy it's one of my favorite things in the world #I specifically try to convey the feel that there's layers of muscle and bone and various other tissues under the skin #like my characters are made of flesh and not solid uniform rubber coated with fur or something like that (?)#I don't know what I'm talking about it's late hah #but I'm glad you like my art #anonymous #answered

Feeling so thankful for this series of MAD! lyric videos today, because thanks to it I won't have to use the unimaginative names of "wild synth break 1" and "wild synth break 2" when refering to these parts of the song in my album review, but rather their true & official names: [unsettling synthesiser noises] and [heavenly choir + metallic chugging], respectively

#feeling so thankful for them also because they're so amazing and fun and awesome too and honestly the best lyric videos i've ever seen #i love how much they add to the whole feel of the album. i love the visual aesthetic of MAD! so much thank you galen johnson #i especially love the hotel 4 the fab vid the whole kinescopic (?) effect + the overlapping slowed down footage #go so well with the songs sinister vibe. and the scrolling list of the hotels services hell yesss. wonder if theres any easter eggs in ther #i also love knowing what color the songs are. bcs yes don't dog it is this exact shade of orangeish yellow so true #altough i see hit me baby as more of a red and pink song than blue (sky blue. or what i should maybe even call MAD! blue) but this works to #when i make that HMB-inspired comic page i think i'll go with red & dark pink & black in terms of colors mostly #but with some touches of that MAD! blue as well maybe. also speaking of the album review #i just hope to get to that before 14th june bcs if i don't then it won't exist until after it's my sparks show time #and i'd rather get that sorted out before all that big action time arrives. but now i'm still too busy enjoying MAD!#and losing it over how awesome this album is. but thats enough tags for one post i will continue this line of thought in another one later #goosepost
