Everything New Streaming On (And Leaving) Netflix In November 2022
🟥🔜 Here is everything scheduled to arrive on or depart Netflix in November 2022! One of the greatest originals lineups in history! WOW. Netflix is DOMINANT. Only Disney+ can compete. #Netflix $NFLX
The amount of buzzy or exciting originals coming to Netflix in November is overwhelming. We were huge fans of the Sherlock Holmes-verse original film, Enola Holmes, back in 2020 so the sequel releasing November 4th with Millie Bobby Brown reprising her role is exactly our cup of tea. We also cannot wait to stream the perfectly casted Addams Family series, Wednesday. Jenna Ortega was born to be…

Crash Course Navigating Digital Information - Episode 6: Evaluating Evidence
How do you know if something is true? Let’s just sit with that question for a little bit… I love the Internet and all of the possibilities and “freedoms” that it presents. Access to information and the ability to share with anyone is unprecedented. But we all have to remember that all of this “freedom” is not Free. Because anyone can present anything as the Truth, we have to be that much more…

What's New Wednesday #36: Lest I Forget
What’s New Wednesday #36: Lest I Forget
Hey-hey-hey! It’s What’s New Wednesday time again and, lest I forget, I thought it best to get everything written down before my baby brain turns everything into mush for the umpteenth week in a row. Yes, I’ve been forgetting a lot of things lately. I don’t mean to forget. Honest. I even have a little notebook to help me remember, but half the time I forget where I put the damn thing. Not today,…

Melbourne playlist
Tumblr media
There is no other city like Melbourne! It sure is a stand out city. I go there at least once a year and always look forward to going back as soon as I left it. But it’s more than just a city. It’s the music from this place that is undeniably awesome.
Tumblr media
So I put together a playlist of bands, artists from Melbourne and beyond the city limits. It was one of the more fun playlists I put together and I hope you enjoy it. Maybe there is a song or a band from there I overlooked. Let me know!!

Cardigans for Fall.
Tumblr media
We may be in the throes of summer, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look forward to the coming season when temperatures will drop and we’ll be in need of something a little warmer. After my weekly roundup of the latest from net-a-porter, I saw a trend of thick knit cardigans (and jumpers) with various designs that’d look great come September when it’s cooler outside. There was one brand in…

Virgil Abloh's First Louis Vuitton Drop Is Here
Hello BoF Professionals, welcome to our latest members-only briefing: The Week Ahead. Think of it as your "cheat sheet" to what everyone will be talking about on Monday.
THE CHEAT SHEET
Louis Vuitton Embraces the Drop
Louis Vuitton Menswear Spring/Summer 2019 show | Source: Getty
Virgil Abloh's debut collection for Louis Vuitton went on sale via a one-week pop-up in London
Vuitton is trying the drop model for the first time with an entire mainline collection
Burberry, Fendi, Celine and Moncler are also experimenting with drops
Select shoppers are getting their first crack at Abloh's Spring/Summer 2019 menswear collection for Louis Vuitton at the brand's first product drop. Pioneered by Hiroshi Fujiwara before being popularised by the likes of Supreme, drops — or controlled releases of new products at a clip that’s far faster than the traditional fashion cycle — are designed to drive consumer excitement with a stream of constant newness. Other luxury players are testing similar waters. But the trick will be balancing the community-fueled energy of streetwear drops, which often attract hordes of young fans, with a luxury-like shopping experience.
The Bottom Line: Too much "street" and luxury drops risk diluting carefully cultivated brand equity, but reducing them to glorified private shopping appointments could miss the magic of turning a product release into a genuine event that energises fans of the brand to show up and post on social media.
China Throws a Wrench Into Kering's 'Progressive Normalisation'
A Gucci store in China | Source: Shutterstock
Kering will report third-quarter earnings on Tuesday
Kering CFO said in April to expect “progressive normalisation” after explosive growth
Luxury stocks have plunged on fears the Chinese government will enforce a $700 limit on spending abroad
Until recently, Kering’s financial performance was as predictable as a Girard-Perregaux watch. But after years of soaring sales, on the back of white-hot Gucci, Balenciaga and the booming China luxury trade, Kering is preparing for the inevitable comedown. It’s sensible to let a little air out of the luxury bubble; Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri isn’t wrong when he tells store employees that no company can grow at the house's current torrid pace forever. But forces beyond Kering’s control threaten to pop the bubble entirely. China is cracking down on luxury imports, which could slim the sales impact of the country’s huge outbound tourist flows at Gucci flagships around the world. And the US-China trade war could sap consumer demand in China itself. Kering shares are down 29 percent from June’s all-time high, part of a broader swoon in luxury stocks.
The Bottom Line: European luxury brands are largely at the mercy of Chinese authorities and US president Donald Trump; they don’t have an obvious alternative customer if Chinese tourists stop loading up on handbags while on holiday.
H&M Hopes Lightning Strikes Twice With Moschino

Jeremy Scott’s Moschino collection for H&M debuts in a New York fashion show Wednesday
H&M’s designer collaborations started with Karl Lagerfeld in 2004; Balmain's 2015 collection was widely considered the most successful
Collections are limited and typically sell out fast but success is measured in media impressions
In keeping with the Moschino brand, everything about H&M’s latest designer collaboration is sure to be a little extra. H&M, which does about one of these a year, is clearly hoping to recreate the magic of its Balmain collaboration in 2015, which succeeded with the only measure that counts: social media impressions (#hmbalmaination was tagged 73,000 times on Instagram, #hmoschino has 2,000 so far though that's sure to rise between Wednesday's show and items going on sale November 8). These collaborations are no-brainers for luxury brands, which gain enormous exposure and a big payday while facing little stigma for briefly mingling with the masses. H&M has less to show for it - growth has slowed in the post-Balmain years.
The Bottom Line: For H&M, the success of its designer collaborations hinges on their ability to generate buzz and drive shoppers to stores where they inevitably pick up other items. But even if Moschino is a hit, repeating that success only grows harder as the brand is running out of blockbuster names.
COMMENTS OF THE WEEK
Hedi Slimane's debut collection for Celine | Source: InDigital
Anabel Maldonado's "Defense of Hedi Slimane" had the BoF community divided on the Celine designer's approach to women's fashion:
"Defenders of Slimane are stubbornly refusing to see the point - traditionally womenswear designers have been overwhelmingly male, and many would agree that the clothing has not always met every woman's needs. So when a man takes over a previously female led house that has been celebrated as an alternative to sexy dressing and turns it into cliche sex-wear, optics wise, it does appear the female voice has been silenced in favor of a man's." -Jessica Kosak
"The problem, it turns out, is not so much that men cannot tap into what women want but rather that some critics didn't like the conception of femininity that Slimane works with. But it is just that - one possible conception of femininity out of a myriad ways to imagine the dressed woman." -Frederik Højgaard

Open for a Month, San Francisco's Transit Terminal Shut Down Due to Cracked Beams
"The cracked beam was spotted Tuesday morning by workers installing ceiling panels on the center’s third-floor bus platform, and concern over its potential failure prompted city officials to close the terminal and some streets at 4:30 p.m," report Matier & Ross for the Chronicle on Sept. 28.
They shunted rush-hour commuters to the nearby Temporary Transbay Terminal, which had been used during the center’s construction.
During an overnight inspection of the center, which opened on Aug. 11, a second crack was discovered, though smaller than "[t]he initial tear [that] runs about 2½ feet long and 4 inches deep through the bottom of a 60-foot-long beam that supports both the center’s celebrated rooftop park above and a bus deck below," reported the Chronicle's Kurtis Alexander and Evan Sernoffsky on Sept. 27.
Representatives of the Transbay Joint Powers Authority, which built and operates the transit center, said Wednesday they didn’t know the causes of the cracks, but they remained concerned about the potential for the beams to fail. Fremont Street, which passes under the center, also is scheduled to stay closed through Oct. 5.
The Chronicle's urban design critic, John King, delves into the structural engineering aspects of the three-block, 1,500-foot building that "twice span major roadways."
Those spans are supported by just four massive beams. Two of them have cracked.
What makes the situation so worrisome is that the cracked girders are the primary means of support for the transit center as it spans Fremont. The only things below the bus deck are sidewalks and asphalt.
King interviewed many structural engineers for the story.
“You’ve got a bus deck hanging from a column that in turn is held up by two cracked beams,” said Joe Maffei, founder of San Francisco’s Maffei Structural Engineering...“I think we are lucky that there was not a collapse.”
While it is not known what caused the cracking of the steel beams which were fabricated by Herrick Corp. in Stockton, Calif., King offers one possiblity:
The most troubling scenario is that the design by Thornton Tomassetti structural engineers and Pelli Clark Pelli Architects didn’t adequately account for the twin pressures of a bus deck and rooftop.
"Hydraulic jacks and newly fabricated steel beams arrived Sunday morning ... where they’ll be used to shore up the spot over Fremont Street where cracks were discovered," reports Michael Cabanatuan on Sept. 30.
By midnight Sunday, Mark Zabaneh, director for the Transbay Joint Powers Authority, said the first of three phases of shoring up the transit center should be completed. It’s not yet clear how long the whole process will take, but by Monday or Tuesday, he said, authorities should have a better idea of when they can partially open Fremont Street.
Once crews install the temporary bracing, it will relieve weight from the damaged girders and allow extensive testing to help determine the cause of the cracking. It could take a week or longer to get results of those tests, he said.
Matier and Ross note the proximity of the transit center to two other engineering failures:
The center sits next to the troubled Millennium Tower, which has sunk 18 inches since it opened in 2009.
The cracked beam is also reminiscent of the cracked bolts that plagued the eastern span of the Bay Bridge.

Chuck's Daily Check In - 04.05.2019
The Bulls went through practice as they prepare for Saturday’s home game against Philadelphia.
The play of Walter Lemon Jr. and JaKarr Sampson have re-energized the “Baby Bulls” over the past week. The two G-League signees have produced in their brief stint with the team adding offensive versatility. Lemon is averaging 19 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists in three games in a Bulls uniform. His two free throws with less than two seconds remaining carried the Bulls to a road win over Washington on Wednesday.
Lemon Jr. told Bulls.com, “I can’t even explain what I’m feeling. It’s been a ride. Humbled and grateful to be here. When most guys get called up they might not get the opportunity to play, but the fact Coach is trusting me to play & close out a game is a huge blessing.”
Meantime, JaKarr Sampson in two games is averaging 20 points and 8 rebounds per game, shooting 66% from the floor.
Before arriving in Chicago via the G-League, Sampson had stops with Philadelphia, Denver and Sacramento. Sampson’s 22 points and seven rebounds against the Wizards helped the Bulls end a five game slide.
“It definitely feels good to break the losing streak. We just need to keep playing defense, finish strong, play the right way and play together. We’re competing for spots." Sampson tells Bulls.com
Milwaukee 128, Philadelphia 122. The Bucks claimed home court advantage throughout the playoffs picking up win #59. The 76ers have lost five of their last seven. The game of the night in the NBA and it had the feel of a playoff affair and more. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid were on center stage and did not disappoint. The Bucks defense was superb down the stretch. Giannis was fabulous with 45 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 blocks. Embiid: 34-13-13 - 3 blocks. Jimmy Butler missed the game with a back issue. Milwaukee’s Eric Bledsoe was tossed after he got in to it with Embiid. The 76ers bench,a major concern to begin with, lost James Ennis III for two weeks with a quad contusion.
Golden State 108, Los Angeles Lakers 90. The Warriors own the best record in the West at 54-24 and have a two game lead on Denver. DeMarcus Cousins with a 21-10 game.
Sacramento 117, Cavaliers 104. Buddy Hield drilled five-three pointers. He needs six more three point field goals to break Damian Lillard’s NBA record for most in a player’s first three seasons. Lillard made 599.

Chuck's Daily Check In - 11.18.18
FINAL FROM THE UNITED CENTER:
Toronto 122, Bulls 83. (Bulls: 4-13, 2-7 at home)
LEADING SCORERS: Bulls: Blakeney: 13 points. Toronto: VanVleet: 18 points. LEADING REBOUNDERS: Bulls: Parker: 6. Toronto: Valanciunas: 9. LEADING ASSISTS: Bulls: Harrison: 6. Toronto: Lowry: 8.
CCI RECAP: Two stars sat this one out respectively for the Bulls and Raptors alike: Zach LaVine (illness) and Kawhi Leonard (load management). Guard Fred VanVleet from nearby Rockford made his first NBA start in his 126th NBA game and delivered, drilling 4- 3 point shots, setting the tone early as the Raptors led 27-18 after the first quarter and never looked back. As was the case Friday in Milwaukee, the Bulls struggled in the third quarter as the Raps won the scoring column 32-12. The Bulls surrendered 58 points in the paint and were out rebounded 54-34. It’s a tall order to play an Eastern Conference power such as Toronto minus five of your best players. No excuses. Just facts.
CCI Inside the Locker Room: Coach Hoiberg: "Nobody in the league is going to feel sorry for us. We have to find a way to stick together, and that's what I'm seeing (in the locker room)."
CCI GAME BALLS: Bulls: Harrison, Holiday and Hutchison. Toronto: Green and VanVleet.
Up next: Home with Phoenix on Wednesday.
Philadelphia 122, Charlotte 119 OT. Jimmy Butler in his third game with the 76ers drilled the game winning shot-a 3 pointer as time expired in OT. Kemba Walker scored a career and franchise high 60 points. It was also an NBA season high.
Utah 98, Boston 86. A rare weekend home and home for the Celtics. On Friday, Boston found a way to beat the Raps in OT but last night it was too much Donovan Mitchell as the Jazz came through. Mitchell with 28 points and six assists. Utah beat Boston for the second time in eight days.
Orlando 130, Los Angeles Lakers 117. Nikola Vucevic scored 36 points. LeBron sat the fourth quarter. Tonight it’s James and company playing the Heat in Miami.
Indiana 97, Atlanta 89. Rookie Aaron Holiday came off the bench and nine of his 12 points came in the fourth quarter. The Hawks have lost seven straight games.
New Orleans 125, Denver 115. Anthony Davis went 20-21 from the foul line and finished with 40 points. The Pelicans have won five of six. Denver has lost five of six.
Los Angeles Clippers 127, Brooklyn 118. Don’t look now but the Clippers have won four straight. Gallinari and Harris combined for 55 points.
Houston 132, Sacramento 112. These are the Rockets that we’ve come to know and love. James Harden tossed in 34 points and dished out assists as Houston won its fourth straight game.
Dallas 112, Golden State 109. No Curry. No Green. No win for GSW. Luka Doncic scored 24 points. The Mavs have won five of six. Golden State has lost four of six.
OKC 110, Phoenix 100. The Thunder remain red hot winning for the tenth time in their last 11 games.

What’s In the News Wednesday: What Does It Mean When a Comedy “News” Show is the Most Trusted News Outlet?
A couple weeks ago I asked, “How Do You Get Your News & Have You Also Failed At The Daily Newspaper Reading Game?” I posted a link to a poll to see how y’all get your daily news (clink link HERE). Like my middle school students who inspired me to move my daily prompts to my blog, I got zero responses. Interesting (and a little bit sad). Most writers would probably look at that result and…

What's New Wednesday #37: Hello Again
What’s New Wednesday #37: Hello Again
Hello again! I hope you didn’t miss me too much over the past couple of months. 🙂 As I’m sure you know by now, I was on maternity leave (well, it turned out I couldn’t sit still, even with a newborn keeping me occupied, so I may have cheated and worked anyway), but I’m back now. And I have a little bundle of joy, too! I’ll be honest, having kids isn’t a joke—a baby takes up so much time and…
