I'm retiring from Tumblr indie RP.

A few months ago over on @/chounaifu, I made a post stating that I was taking a hiatus from my Pokémon blogs, and that I wasn't sure whether or not I'll be returning to the community.

After spending that time away, I've come to the conclusion that I am done with Tumblr indie RP as a whole.

I've been in the Tumblr indie scene on and off since 2012, and in the Pokémon rpc on and off since 2016. I'm at a point where I've recognized that this environment isn't healthy for me.

When I sit down in a group environment for any hobby, I want to be able to focus on-- well-- doing that hobby. I can't do that here. The majority of my focus goes into trying to keep track of who has who blocked, so that I don't unintentionally bring two muns who hate each other into the same rp plot. Next to that, I feel a lot of stress and anxiety when I'm on the dashboard, because I feel a lot of pressure to constantly send and answer asks memes, reblog promos, participate in dash commentary, and reply as quickly as I can before a topic or theme is no longer relevant. That just isn't compatible with the energy level that I have these days. I feel genuinely guilty when I can't engage with everyone. I feel like I have this unspoken responsibility to be as active as possible, to interact with every post, otherwise people are going to assume that I hate them for not sending a meme. And while I know that isn't the case with everybody, I've had that experience more times than I can count, and I'm just worn out.

It's difficult for me to be able to write stories and engage with people when so much of my limited energy is put into these things. As a result, it then leads me towards not wanting to write at all.

On top of this, I'm really gutted to know that various people are too anxious to write the same muse as me, because of dupe anxiety. I already worry about taking up too much space in life in general. I don't want to hold my breath about that. I don't want my presence to make someone so anxious that they block me. It's not a good feeling.

I don't know guys. I've been writing in a different environment for a while now, and it's better for my mental health. I'm not going to yap about it here, because truth be told, the few times I have on Bluesky and Discord were met with a lot of negativity. I don't take things like that personally, but I don't have the capacity for much more of it right now. Not with how stressful everything else is.

Idk.

Life is finite, and I want to spend it doing things that make me happy. This doesn't make me happy. Community discourse doesn't make me happy. Thinking about the amount of time I've spent in the past, sitting in chat rooms, listening to and engaging in conversations related to Tumblr rp drama just makes me sad. It makes me really sad. I don't want to do that anymore. I don't want to feel that anymore.

Maybe I'm just not a good match for spaces like this. CPTSD is a difficult condition to live with. When I'm triggered, it can make me stressed and physically ill. And right now, I don't feel like I can navigate the indie rp environment without exposing myself to behaviors and habits that trigger me. So, I'm bowing out.

I'm open to writing on Discord with people. I know that isn't the preferred format for everyone. But I need to do what's good for me, and put myself first.

There's still a lot of good memories associated to the indie rp community for me, though. I've made friends that I want to keep for life. I laughed, I joked around, we had some epic rp moments, I only wish I could have more of that, and that the community was more open to dash events, group plots, and healthy, honest communication. But, I understand that communication is difficult. Not everybody gets along. Things function the way they do here, and, it's not my place to change it.

Beelzebub's Masquerade Ball Schedule

6 pm - Opening Words/Guest Arrival

- I will post an opening drabble that will kick off the event. After which, muns are welcome to make their own posts or drabbles of their muses arriving at the ball. Please tag either of my blogs @/infernal-feminae or @/qveenofgluttony if you would like me to reblog your arrival posts for visibility purposes.

7 pm - Beelza Opening Performance

- I will be posting a lyric drabble of Beelza performing for the guests. Muses are welcome to make dash commentary with their reactions or interact with Beelza afterward if they wish.

8 pm - Costume Contest

- I will post a link of all the submitted costumes so everyone can vote for the one they like best. I will try to give guests a couple of hours to vote before announcing the winner of the costume contest.

9 pm - 10 pm - Open Floor Dancing

- Pretty much down time for muses to mingle with other guests, grab drinks, explore the venue, etc.

10 pm - Costume Contest Winner Announcement

- The top three finalists and the winner of the costume contest will be announced!

11 pm - Midnight - Cool down

- More mingling, dancing, food and drink until guests are ready to retire to their guest rooms or go home and rest until the next day.

Saturday

3 pm - Ball Resumes

- Just as it says. The ball resumes!

4 - 5 pm - Dancing “Contest”

- The generated pairings of the muses participating in the dance contest will be announced. The paired muses are encouraged to interact with each other during this time. Muses who are not participating are also free to comment or react. Once the hour is over the paired muses are free to continue to interact or leave the dance floor. If you would still like to participate in the dancing contest, you can like this post here.

5 - 7 pm - Open Floor Dancing

- The rest of the guests are allowed to re-enter the dance floor after the contest is over. Also more down time for muses to mingle with other guests, grab drinks, etc.

7 pm - Verosika Mayday Performance

- Same as Beelza’s, I will be posting a lyric drabble of Verosika performing for the guests.

8 pm - Midnight - Cool down

- Another chill time for the guests to mingle, drink and eat, and dance.

Sunday

3 pm - Ball resumes

- Just as it says. The ball resumes!

4 - 8 pm - Open Mic

- Beelza will open the stage to anyone who wishes to entertain the rest of the guests with their musical talents. If muns would like, they are free to write a short drabble of their muses “performing” with a song of their choice. 8 - 11 pm - Open Floor Dancing

- Down time for muses to mingle, dance, etc.

- Beelza will invite the guests to come up and try their luck at guessing Beelzebub’s identity before she reveals herself. The first muse to guess correctly will receive their reward. If no one can correctly guess then she will reveal herself instead.

- A mysterious guest will give the closing performance!

And on a last note... Personal ethics are actually important to me. I spent almost a year on this blog buying into the general RPC culture of "always look the other way, smile even if someone punches you down, never care too deeply, enable everyone to keep on getting off, whatever they need." But the thing is... that's not me. As I said in an answered ask: " It's easy to keep on partying and rolling with it all and having fun if you don't worry about who gets hurt along the way, if you expect the person you knocked down to play the game and pretend that nothing happened... But that's not a game I want to play--and the people who do want it like that aren't ones I want to be close with. I've never been one to party with anyone who places gratification above consideration. I don't want to start now."

I believe in standing up for yourself and your friends, but doing it in a mature way that doesn't involve witch-hunts or callouts. If you treat people poorly, I am not interested in writing together. Be honest, be decent, give a damn about your community, and we're good.

maybe somewhat controversial but saw somethin on a confessions blog saying this and i guess i do kinda miss when rping felt... sillier at times? like with both the existence of magic anons & dash commentaries. things just feel Stricter or More Serious now? not sure how to put it. dash commentaries do still happen, but not as frequently as i used to. like GOSH, i remember 5+ years ago, i'd have my character saying something bizarre and it would BLOW the entire dashboard up. like almost all my mutuals would be commenting on it, a lot of "silly drama" would happen because of it. some would agree with my muse, some would prosecute them. that doesn't really happen anymore. though, i also understand. i get that ppl have boundaries, but sometimes it really feels like you have to walk on eggshells lest you upset somebody.

i recalled one time this character was just being AWFUL to mine (mine who has done nothing wrong lol) just hurling insults, mistreating them, whateves. so y'know, there were dash commentaries about this and it eventually lead to the other mun getting very upset that their character was being "villainized". and it's like ... don't ... write an antagonistic muse if you don't want that? or the very least, don't write them BEING antagonistic toward innocent people? i mean, when ppl's muses & anons used to bully abaddon, i actually loved it. because indeed deserved it, he's a horrible horrible person who mistreats and kills the innocents. and plus it's just fun ok? i love conflict - regardless if it's angsty, serious, or silly conflict.

and magic anons... i get it can be a flawed concept. (ppl can send their Thinly Disguised Fetishes in it - not that i care but obvs other ppl would rightfully care) but i still thought it was very fun because it's like temporary or mini aus. it plunges characters into otherwise impossible scenarios and then give you new thread concepts based on those scenarios. i'd say even to this day, i still accept magic anons. but that feels pointless to say because they're virtually nonexistent anymore.

this was all i was gonna discuss in this post, but i can also understand why the rpc is often... less engaging anymore? why we have a problem with communication, why we have a problem with less anons being sent out. this isn't a generalization, of course - there are other reasons why this happens. but this is something i've personally experienced in the past, and it makes me think it could be the same for other people. it's just the fear of being blown up at, again - upsetting somebody.

i've seen people be legit hateful towards the anons they get A LOT. like an old rper i've stopped writing with would literally call the anons "assholes" and trying to "ruin fun" because the anons would just comment on the threads or ask questions regarding the threads? and it's like i thought that was supposed to be a common thing... anons like that just help add insight to how the muse is feeling regarding a thread or somethin. but the way they reacted was so unnecessary hostile? when they could've politely told anons to stop or just... fucking deleted the anons like lmao. and it's not just this too but i've seen other people just react bitterly to certain anons they get. or this one time where somebody REQUESTED for CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM and i sent an anon giving my criticism, can't remember quite what it was but obvs i said nothing mean or insulting - i just told them a problem i noticed and gave tips on how they could possibly improve (AGAIN, THEY ASKED FOR THIS) and they later went on their blog talking about how they got ANON HATE???? HELLO????? so yeah, i understand not liking certain anons you get or whatever. but ppl react to them with so much hostility, that it makes everyone else afraid to send anons anymore because they'd rather say nothing than upset the user, especially if they're gonna be potentially villainized for something that is virtually harmless.

then there is just talking to people ooc. hell, i've had somebody who followed one of my old blogs (this was like a few years ago iirc?) and their rules had that blood was one of their triggers. so i told them that i tag that so they don't have to worry and they literally said something like "I didn't ask you to :/" and that's it??? and then they were just rude to me the entire convo until we eventually unfollowed lol. not to mention all the skype & discord contacts i add over the years and then we just stop talking in no time...

anyway, i'm not saying everyone is like this at all! there are MANY super cool people in the rpc, many people i have a lotta fun writing with here. but when you look back at all the bad experiences, or even looking at the bad experiences at are currently unfolding, it makes more and more sense why a lotta the "silly" rp aspects that ceased to exist. why there are no more magic anons, and why dash commentary & anons in general are becoming more and more scarce.

it was this post that inspired me to talk about this. which i actually don't agree with everything op said. in fact, i wouldn't even say the primary issue of current threads is romance or smut. more so, i noticed that fluff / slice of life threads with no conflict is what makes up for most threads nowadays it seems lmao. which is also understandable, because again - it's a popular known issue within the rpc that it's hard to have conflict in threads, lest somebody legit gets their feelings hurt OOC!!! hell, this has happened to me a few times because i often play antagonistic muses. which again, is another issue that makes people feel like they're constantly walking on eggshells. but anyway, it just inspired me to think about and discuss this.

Beelzebub's Masquerade Ball Schedule

Mun’s Note: This is not a strict schedule.* I will move activities/events around slightly if needed or if something comes up. This is just a general outline of what to expect during the event. I will also be posting many plot-driven drabbles between times. And once again, the event itself is not chronologically locked. Even before the event resumes the next couple of days or when it ends people are still welcome to continue event threads if they wish. If you would like to participate and still have not received an invitation, please feel free to like this post.

Friday

6 pm - Opening Words/Guest Arrival

- I will post an opening drabble that will kick off the event. After which, muns are welcome to make their own posts or drabbles of their muses arriving at the ball.

7 pm - Beelza Opening Performance

- I will be posting a lyric drabble of Beelza performing for the guests. In addition, I will also be posting a plot-driven drabble to go along with this one. Muses are welcome to make dash commentary with their reactions or interact with Beelza during this time if they wish.

8 pm - Costume Contest

- I will post a link of all the submitted costumes so everyone can vote for the one they like best. I will try to give guests a couple of hours to vote before announcing the winner of the costume contest.

9 pm - 10 pm - Open Floor Dancing

- This is pretty much down time for muses to mingle with other guests, grab drinks, explore the venue, etc.

10 pm - Costume Contest Winner Announcement

- The top three finalists and the winner of the costume contest will be announced!

11 pm - Midnight - Cool down

- More mingling, dancing, food and drink until guests are ready to retire to their guest rooms or go home if they wish and rest until the next day.

Saturday

3 pm - Ball Resumes

- Just as it says. The ball resumes!

4 - 5 pm - Dancing “Contest”

- The generated pairings of the muses participating in the dance contest will be announced. The paired muses are encouraged to interact with each other during this time. Muses who are not participating are also free to comment or react. Once the hour is over the paired muses are free to continue to interact or leave the dance floor. If you would still like to participate in the dancing contest, you can like this post here.

5 - 7 pm - Open Floor Dancing

- The rest of the guests are allowed to re-enter the dance floor after the contest is over. Also more down time for muses to mingle with other guests, grab drinks, etc.

7 pm - Glam Sisters Performance

- Same as Beelza’s, I will be posting a lyric drabble of the Glam Sisters performing for the guests.

8 pm - Midnight - Cool down

- Another chill time for the guests to mingle, drink and eat, and dance.

Sunday

3 pm - Ball resumes

- Just as it says. The ball resumes!

4 - 8 pm - Open Mic

- Beelza will open the stage to anyone who wishes to entertain the rest of the guests with their musical talents. If muns would like, they are free to write a short drabble of their muses “performing” with a song of their choice. Please tag either of my blogs @/infernal-feminae or @/qveenofgluttony if you would like me to reblog it for visibility purposes.

8 - 11 pm - Open Floor Dancing

- Down time for muses to mingle, dance, etc.

10 pm - Beelzebub’s Identity Announcement

- Beelza will invite the guests to come up and try their luck at guessing Beelzebub’s identity before she reveals herself. The first muse to guess correctly will receive their reward. If no one can correctly guess then she will reveal herself in the next hour.

11 pm - Beelzebub Closing Performance

- Beelzebub reveals herself and gives a closing musical performance to wrap up the ball.

Guidelines

1. Please keep in mind that this blog varies in activity due to a number of factors, like work, low moods, ext. and as a result I may not have energy to be active as much as I would like to be.

2. This blog is more story-driven with some action, drama and complex themes. I am of course willing to do other kinds of threads but this is my preferred preference. These plot-lines are only available to those who want to be involved in such, so please let me know if it is something you are interested in.

3. Hate and drama will be ignored. Plain and simple.

4. The setting of this blog is mostly a composite setting with some OC elements, and is not based purely on any specific fandom.

5. The usual 'No Godmodding' and other common rules apply here too. I don't really state them because I expect everyone to have common sense.

6. Content on this blog will be 18+ and as such, no one under such an age will be allowed to interact with this blog. Again, this is common sense I expect everyone to have.

7. This blog is mutuals only. It helps to know if people are interested in interaction. If you chose to unfollow, I will take that as a indication that you are no longer interested in following this blog and will unfollow in return.

8. After recent events, I decided that I will not be partaking in dashboard commentaries, or at the least, limit them severely. The blog will be purely focused on threads, asks and any storyline related postings to avoid unintentional conflict and misunderstandings to arise between muns from what my muses may say or do.

9. Adding this here as a disclaimer: The views, actions and behaviors of the muse does not, in any way, reflect the mun whatsoever. I understand that sometimes people can put just a bit too much of themselves into a muse, or that individuals will attack other people under the guise of their own muse, but please understand that I am not either of these types of people. Some of my muses can be aggressive, antagonistic, or downright evil, but that does not mean that I am too. Please try to separate the the writer from the character and understand that just because we write evil characters, does not mean that we are evil ourselves, or endorse what said character does. If my writing of antagonistic characters bothers you to the point of personal offense, this blog is probably not the best place for you.

10. Please, no IRL politics. This is self explanatory but to be clear about it more, I don't want my dash to be flooded with real life politics. Whenever I see stuff like that, I tend to doomspiral into insanity, so for the sake of me maintaining what little of my sanity I have, do not post political stuff or come to me about such topics. It will be ignored and blocked.

11. From this point forward I will be incredibly selective and limited when it comes to shipping. Before I used to be a bit more gung-ho about it and was more of a focus of the blog at one point, just having interactions to see where things go, but as of recent, I realize that may no longer be the best approach. I have muses who are incredibly hard to ship with, and I feel like there must be a total understanding of all characters involved before the decision to make a ship of them is made. I don't want anyone to feel like they have no say in whether or not things don't turn out so well between our muses, so to avoid issues from cropping up, I will be less focused on building ships and more focused on other things, and in the event I do want to ship, it must be discussed about at length, and with proper buildup. And by all means, if you are interested in a ship, please let me know! I am still open to shipping and I still enjoy the ones I already have, it just will not be as much of a focus anymore for the blog.

12. Unless I ask for it, please do not send any Magic Anons or anons that ultimately end up controlling or affecting my character in someway. This is somewhat of an extension of rule number 5, which expressly prohibits Godmodding in particular. From this point going forward, any anons I get that falls into this category will be ignored, and further instances of these getting sent will get you blocked immediately.

'hate' is really wayyyy too strong of a word but i'm very lightly annoyed by what seems to be the current method of dash commentary, which is just making separate consecutive posts on your respective blogs Responding to the other RPer's posts instead of. reblogging. and making an actual back and forth thread out of it

idk how long this has been going on. i can't remember when i first noticed it lmao. it's nothing Huge, it just makes me feel frustratingly Out Of The Loop on everything if i don't follow all the blogs currently interacting with the commentary

so it ends up being just this one-sided stream of nonsense almost entirely divorced from its context orz unless i want to try to figure out the other blogs involved and search through their posts in the hopes of painstakingly piecing together The Full Story rip

How do you feel about vague posting?

mm, it's kinda up in the air a bit. for the most part i don't really think much of it when i see other people do it-- i might have a moment of Intense Curiosity and some brief worry that it's me they're complaining about lmao but. it usually passes pretty quick. and tbf i don't feel that i see a lot of it on the dash anymore

it also probably kinda helps that i'm not. or at least i don't think i'm that heavy of a presence on the dash either, not these days, so it's easy for me to assume whatever post i see isn't about me

on the flipside i kinda hate that it's even A Concept at all bc i'm constantly trying to figure out if my posts veer into it!! bc most people don't like vague posting, which is understandable. and i don't want to irritate anyone XD;; or make them Nervous. it's easy enough for me to kinda shimmy past that sorta insecurity when i spot vague posts, but there's probably plenty others who aren't so lucky and will get Stuck and overthink. there's a lot of posts i write up and then. delete bc i'm scared it falls into vague posting or that it might be taken that way orz

oh i feel like there's a lot but off the top of my head it's reblogging posts that aren't RP memes from me instead of the source. it very honestly makes me feel kinda sad when someone reblogs an aesthetic post or a musing or Anything Else from The Source instead of me orz and i know that's silly and probably makes no sense

idk if it's that i'm some kinda old school or something but it's always been a sorta happy Ping for me when followers find posts they like on my blog and reblog them. i start to feel a little Invisible?? perhaps? when it's just a trickle of likes on reblogged posts (if that) followed by spying the same post on the dash but reblogged from the source

and realistically of course i know it Shouldn't-- like in the former's case it's obvious my blog is where they saw the post so i'm clearly not invisible. but it still just ends up feeling a bit lonely for me, haha ;;

i've also never personally had trouble finding my replies in my activity page, even when i had a popular* blog, but that doesn't necessarily mean no one else does or has

GROUP ETIQUETTE REMINDERS

Hey everyone!

We just wanted to touch base on a few topics regarding etiquette in the group, whether it's on the dashboard or when communicating with the staff team! No one is in trouble, we're just addressing some concerns that have both been brought to us, and others we've noticed on our own!

GENERAL

Please try to branch out and write with characters outside of your cast and friend groups. Doing so goes a long way towards making the group feel more inclusive, and also helps better protect your character slot in the case where someone files a hoarding case against you!

RP ads are a tool for getting interactions but are not obligations. If someone doesn't make a starter for you then that's okay! In the same vein, try not to make an ad if it seems likely you won't be able to fulfill it, and on the opposite end try not to like someone else's RP ad if you don't think you'll be able to reply to the starter. I'm sure we've all been in a situation where we've made a starter that was never replied to and know that it doesn't feel great!

Remember to communicate with your fellow members if something is wrong! If there's something wrong with the starter someone made for you, or someone has done something to make you uncomfortable unknowingly, it's better to let them know than say nothing and let misunderstandings fester!

DASHBOARD

As a reminder: we only allow three OOC posts per hour on a single account (though we are more lenient on Meme Fridays). This includes things like shitposts and posts that border IC and OOC like musings or dash commentary posts that are not formatted as regular RP posts. The dash is shared between all members, and it can be intrusive for some to have a wall of posts from people on the dash that are not IC. If we find members are posting OOC too often, we may tighten this rule in the future.

Because the dashboard is a shared space, please generally keep in mind the accessibility and comfort of other members on the dash. Brightly coloured text or overly busy icons can be an accessibility issue or potentially jarring for some members depending.

That said, as we have received asks about these types of things in the past, we do not police things like writing flourishes or icon styles and have no plans on doing so unless the colors are too harsh or it contains things like flashing gifs.

The best we can do is encourage unfollowing or blocking members that make your dashboard an unpleasant experience! It sucks to get blocked, but the only one who can curate your dashboard in the end is you! No one will ever get in trouble for unfollowing or blocking another member for personal comfort.

COMMUNICATION WITH STAFF

We do not reply to asks that are worded in a way that is aggressive or rude, especially if those asks are sent anonymously. This applies to asks directed at us and at your fellow group members, as we will not publish an ask that attacks anyone in the group either.

In general, we cannot respond to complaints or concerns that are sent anonymously if all relevant information isn't included in the ask. For example: if your complaint involves a dash habit that you think is an issue, we need examples of where to look, and specific reasons why you think its an issue. As a result, we encourage sending these types of asks off of anon instead.
