On the left, the kobold! 2 foot (61 cm) clever dragon people full of passion and teamwork, switching wildly between complete cowardice and pure bravery! They're also CONSTANTLY making traps and mining. Fun fact: Generally speaking, kobolds make long-lasting romantic or platonic relationships, but not sexual. Those are frequent and chosen for practical reasons. So chances are they're going to be very experienced, comes with the turf when you're a classic minion!
On the right, the white dragon! It's a chromatic dragon, so adults are roughly in the 20-80 foot (6-24 m) range. These ones have a sort of primal energy to them, preferring to focus on the thrill of the hunt and simple pleasures like a well decorated home. A bit less intelligent than the average human (adults have a -1 int), but has a perfect memory!
It was at that moment, the Mighty Nein realised they had dun goofed.
I loved painting this piece and finished it a couple of days after the episode aired.

various busts from the past few years (2020-2022) of either my dragon characters or just generic ones. you can use these as visual reference for characters in ttrpgs with your friends, but please credit me (and if you create or commission art, please change the designs when doing so to make them your own!) ^w^
i’m hoping that soon my vision will recover enough to formally reopen smaller comms, but in the meantime i’ve been chipping away at organizing my ttrpg-related art files to share to subscribers on ko-fi (currently active) and patreon (will be active in the future) !
bonus time capsule art below the break!
from way back in 2013 - a decade ago now! - my first ever ttrpg art; a black dragon for a friend’s campaign. unfortunately, iirc, we only played one session before things fell apart, but such is life. maybe i’ll redraw this one sometime, for a 10-year comparison of being a nerd
The pale dragon didn’t believe a dragon without wings could catch him, but as he coiled around his body full of fire and gold, the pale dragon found he didn’t wish to fly away at all.
So many thanks to miamiero on Twitter for this amazing art of Astarion & my Tav Angelus as dragons 🐉🔥
So, I stopped the Monster Manual project in favor of my own non-Hasbro affiliated bestiary. I don't regret the decision, but one thing I did miss out on was doing my own designs of the classic DnD dragons. Since it's Samaugust and all, I figured I would share the sketches I've done outlining what would have been. We'll be going from smallest to largest, but only for the chromatics. And maybe the gold and wyvern as well.
What surprised me the first time I read the ADnD description of its dragons were how small they were. Now, 24 feet of big lizard in your face is still a lot of lizard, but seems minuscule compared to their modern depictions. Something might be said about how over-the-top those modern sizes can be. After all, a dragon the size of an elephant or Tyrannosaurus is already pretty overkill.
Anyways, for these designs I wanted to pick out the most distinct features of the original art and expand on that. For the white dragon, it was that shark-like crest. My white dragon is even more aquatic oriented, with fish-like scales and more fins for swimming. Living at the poles, all the good prey is underwater, so they should be adapted for it. The head is also shaped for hydrodynamic efficiency.
