There was a time when I considered developing a Dracula/Winnie the Pooh story (with Sherlock Holmes and Van Helsing, too).

It would have been about Dracula acquiring land in the Hundred Acre Woods, with Pooh and Piglet being stand-ins for Renfield and Jonathan.

(Also, Dracula would have used honey barrels and bees to move his body across continents.)

Tho, now that Steamboat Rodent is in the public domain, I can't help but imagine how perfect he would be as captain of the Demeter.

Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh as Holmes and Watson except they keep switching costumes and roles throughout the story

All I'm saying is that when Scooby Doo becomes public domain, I don't wanna see any low budget slashers. I wanna see the gang as immoral people who only hunt monsters for pay. I wanna see Scooby Doo in the style of Supernatural. Or Until Dawn. We already have series like Scoob and Shag and Mystery Inc (the fan series, not the official one) to show how to properly adapt a franchise in a cool new way. Now we must merely wait until you can do that, like, legally or whtv.

day 1 into a public domain steamboat willie and ive already seen 5 horror based projects involving Mickey Mouse.

you ALWAYS do this shit. Winnie the Pooh is public domain? Make him KILL and HAVE SEX and BE EVIL.

You know you can like... make something new and interesting with it right? Or something nostalgic. There were so many Disney-based 2D Platformers that were super well beloved, and there were a bunch of point and click adventure and interactive storybook Winnie the Pooh games. You can just continue making things like those now that the original developers arent working on them. You could genuinely go make Epic Mickey 3 right now im pretty sure.

also like genuinely, i think making a childrens character into a horror monster could actually be used as an argument by disney to make copyright laws even worse, especially with the pearl-clutching nature of western society.
