Na'vi Stripes Tutorial!
Tagging @eywaschild891, in case you were still interested in this! (note: this tutorial is about the digital process of adding the stripes, not actually designing the patterns)
I'm using MediBang Paint Pro, but this technique should work in any program that supports layers.
Tumblr media
So you've drawn your Na'vi and now you want to add some stripes! First we'll have to start with a base color. Underneath your lineart layer, add two new layers: one as the main base color layer (for coloring hair, eyes, clothes, etc), and on top of that, a separate layer for the skin. Putting the skin on a separate layer is important because that way you'll be able to do the stripes as a clipping mask.
Your layer box should look something like this (you can ignore the gray background and extra folder, they're not important for this tutorial):
Tumblr media
Now we can start on the base stripe layer. Create a new layer and set it as a clipping mask on your skin layer. This makes it so that you can't "color outside the lines", so to speak, while drawing the stripes. Then take a hard-edged brush and start drawing the patterns you want. I like to use MediBang's "mapping pen", which has a subtly textured edge, but the regular default Pen tool will work perfectly fine as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you'd like, you can stop here and call this done: solid stripes are perfectly acceptable in a cartoonified stylization. However, if you look closely at Na'vi stripes on canon characters, you'll note that they're not completely solid: they have a subtle fading effect, where they're darker along the edges and a bit lighter in the middle, and in some places they fade out into the body. Sometimes it almost looks watercolor-ish.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I'm sure there are better examples out there than these but I'm not up to digging for them rn 😅)
So, let's continue! To fade our stripes, create another clipping mask layer above the main stripe layer. Use a brush with pressure-based opacity such as MediBang's "pencil" to loosely fill the insides of the stripes with the base skin color.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once you have filled in all the stripes, use the gaussian blur filter to smooth out the fade. The filter doesn't need to be super strong—in fact, if you make it too strong you will loose the detail and the stripes will look solid again. With MediBang's version of the tool, I had it set to 7 (out of a max of 64) for this image, though of course the way it works may be different in other programs; mess around with different settings until you get something you like.
(sadly I do not have a screenshot of the blurred version because apparently the way my cintiq takes screenshots is dumb; it only captured the "gaussian blur" popup window instead of the whole screen. oh well. :P)
Now that we have the fade within the stripes, let's also make them fade into the rest of the body. The areas you'll want to do this with are the torso, inner arms, and inner/back of legs.
Create another clipping mask. Using the same pressure-opacity brush and base skin color as before, loosely block in where you want the stripes to fade into the body.
Tumblr media
Once you've finished, gaussian blur the layer just like before. This one can be a little stronger than the inside-stripe one. For this image I had it set to 14.
Sometimes, the areas you block out will overlap with areas that shouldn't be faded—for example, here the fading from the back of the character's thigh is overlapping with her tail. To fix this, just erase it to remove the fade from where it shouldn't be (this is why we do this step on separate layers). Make sure you do this erasing after you've applied the gaussian blur.
Tumblr media
Depending on the pose of your character, there may be places where one faded area overlaps with another. For example, in this drawing, the blocking for the arm fading overlaps with the blocking for the torso fading. Here it is with the torso fading turned off so you can see the overlap:
Tumblr media
This makes it difficult to do both the arm and the torso on the same layer, because I won't be able to remove where the arm fading overlaps the torso fading without also removing the actual torso fading.
Luckily, there's a simple fix: just do the arm fading on a separate layer. Do this as many times with as many layers as you need to for your particular pose. Sometimes you'll only need one or two, like here; other times you'll need several.
BUT, fading the stripes is the last step! Regardless of how many layers you end up needing, once you're done, you're done! Now you have a Na'vi with nice natural-looking striping 😸
Tumblr media
At this point you can go ahead and merge all the clipping masks into the main skin layer and even merge the skin layer with the other-base-colors layer if you're ready!
Hopefully that wasn't too hard to follow; feel free to ask if anything is confusing or unclear. Happy drawing! 😸

I have started to become more and more fascinated with older computers as time has gone on, and now I want to potentially own one of my own. The oldest one I have access to is a laptop from 2013 I had shared with my mom that's running Windows 7, lol. I was thinking I wanted to go a decade or two further back, like late 80's up to 2000. Do you have any potential recommendations? No OS preference, but I do have a huge interest in older digital art programs, so anything that has something like that built in/has some available for it would be ideal. Thanks so much.
I'm not an expert on art programs, but that I do know is that every machine with Windows comes with Microsoft Paint while Macs usually don't have any built-in editor, but you can get other programs (Photoshop, Kidpix, etc) for both platforms. (Also, I've heard there's a lot of art programs for the Amiga platform, but that's a very expensive platform to get into from what I've seen).
As for the computer itself... the best place to start is probably asking around and seeing if anyone you know has an old machine in their garage or basement gathering dust that you can have. Something like that would be easily accessible and would be a good starting point, as you haven't invested much (if anything) into it and it's probably going to be something commonplace enough that you can get the basics down and use it as a jumping point. Something like that would most likely be a 90s PC or possibly an 80s eight-bit machine like a Commodore 64 or Apple II if you're really lucky.
Anyway, I guess the point of my rambling is whatever other people around you might have would most likely be an easily accessible starting point. Then as you explore more you can decide things like "okay, I'd like to experiment more with portables" or "wow, I really like this specific drawing program, maybe I can find something that runs an even older version." This hobby has been something I've been into for a decade+, so there's plenty of time to explore and learn about new things.
If anyone else has suggestions, please feel free to add on to this post, I just put what came to my mind here.

It gets to Friday and I think oh yay it’s Friday! Closely followed by, oh but now we have to entertain the children full time for the next two days!
We tend to keep them busy with activities as they have a limited repertoire of ways to entertain themselves at home and the hours are very long. Yesterday we took them on a bus and train ride to a nearby venue with soft play and a climbing wall. It was an ambitious outing but mostly successful. The children have had very minimal experiences outside their home in their life, so it’s easy to forget how overwhelming even small outings can be. They loved the train ride and both sat staring out of the window and enjoying the motion of the train. Sadly it wasn’t a very long ride but in the context of the whole afternoon out it was quite long enough.
Today we went to church. There weren’t any kids groups because it was a harvest service. Mr 7 sat with H at the back and played lego, and Miss 5 wandered around the back with her selection of books. It was a bit harder work than a usual service with kids groups but nice for me and H to actually be in the service.
This afternoon I took Mr 7 swimming. (I’m alternating Miss 5 and Mr 7 each weekend). It was the best swimming outing with him yet. I might even say I actually enjoyed it! We had to do less of the perpetual putting each other in jail, and more variety in play. At one point, I had to chase him but he wanted a 64 second head start. So basically I had to stay still while he swam away counting to 64. Unfortunately he swam in a circle so by the time he got to 64, he was right next to me again 😂 He also spent a while pretending to be a train (in the water) and repeating all the various announcements he’d heard yesterday. All these new experiences feeding into his play is fabulous. No wonder his play used to be so repetitive, he had nothing to feed his imagination.
H took Miss 5 to the playground and the shop while we were out. I have been working with Miss 5 on toddler skills (the level she is at). Today she mastered posting plastic coins into a plastic piggy bank. We’ve been working on this skill for weeks so it was such a big moment!
I need to hold on to all these little moments of joy and progress for the times when life just feels like an endless treadmill.

Chapter 7
-------x-------
Juvia woke up feeling well rested from a peaceful sleep. Looking from the window, she could see little raindrops on the window, but the clouds had already vanished. She stretched, excited to spend more time with her friends even if there was a chance Bora would bother her again.
Yesterday had been rough, but when Juvia laid in her bed and stopped to think about it all, she felt less bad. She wasn’t one to dwell on the past for too long. How could she, when she had such a great present time? That was the philosophy that kept her from getting too emotional over the difficult times when she was younger.
“Good morning” Erza said from her side of the double bed
It was funny how even after all this time the water mage never got used to how light her friend’s sleep was. Even when she was resting, any noise was enough to leave her alert. A true knight, indeed.
“Morning, Erza!!!”
“Someone’s happy… Last night must have been really good, huh?
Juvia blushed hard and threw a pillow at her friend, giggling. She knew Erza rooted for them as much as herself, so she didn’t feel uncomfortable about the innuendo. That meant she wasn’t imagining things.
Before she went to sleep, her mind was going feral trying to process what had happened when they were in the lobby, clothes damp from standing in the rain. Gray caught her face in his hands and talked to her with such care that she almost thought… And then he looked at her mouth! She could swear he did. There was a moment, after she had closed her eyes, that she felt him brush his finger against her bottom lip. She didn’t dream that, right?
Had Gray really been close to kissing her?
By Erza’s look, yes.
“What’s bugging you, Juvia? Don’t look at me like that… I know something’s up. Usually, if there was an advance this huge you would be screaming or crying from joy or even melting into a puddle. Talk to me.”
Juvia  sighed and laid on her side, her face close to the redhead. Feeling transparent as, well, water she whispered in a low and airy voice “I’m afraid it will pass.”
“What do you mean?”
“Juvia’s afraid Gray-sama will change his mind… and that fear makes her feel bad. She should trust her beloved, doubt is poison to one’s love. Still. She can’t help but feel as if it will all be taken from her at any moment.”
Erza kept quiet after she was done rambling as if she was measuring her next words.
“First of all, don’t blame yourself for doubting. You have the right to feel that way since my idiot friend has let you down in the past. What I can say is… Gray has changed so much thanks to you. Your presence in his life is vital, even if he fails to demonstrate it most of the time. I know it’s hard to wait so long for him, but ever since the 100 years quest started I noticed he’s been way more open about his feelings with you. Am I wrong?”
“No…”
“And lately he’s been making more progress. I’ve been watching the both of you and - geez, that sounded a bit creepy - anyway, I’ve been keeping an eye on you both and believe me when I say this, I’m sure he’s made his mind. After all you both have been through, how not?”
“You’re right. Gray-sama and Juvia have come a long way. And her love for Gray-sama is stronger than anything in this world, so she should be patient!”
“Woah, calm down. I’m not saying you should accept anything he does just cause you love him. That’s not healthy. If you want this to work, you must stand your ground as well. Tell him what you want, your desires matter as much as his. You shouldn’t have to wait forever for Gray if it’s making you suffer. My advice is: find a balance between giving him space and letting your feelings be known.”
“Erza… You’re so wise. Thank you”
Juvia hugged her friend, letting everything Erza said sink in. A middle ground… she wasn’t exactly known for being balanced, but she could try.
-x-
A few hours later, team Natsu (and Juvia) were standing in the entrance of the publisher’s. A middle-aged woman let them in, introducing herself as Olga. She led them to a cozy living room with a L-shaped couch and a fireplace. They sat and Lucy took the charge. She presented herself as a journalist who wanted an interview to talk about her work in the book field.
Judging by Olga’s stance, she wasn’t thrilled. Stil, she casually led them to another room filled with bookshelves and a drawer, telling them to wait there.
“I’ll fetch some tea and biscuits since you’re a large group. Are you all from Sorcerer’s Weekly?”
“Yeah.” Lucy answered quickly.
“Cool.” With that, she disappeared.
That was their cue to start the hunt for any kind of information they could get. They started carefully looking through the books and papers on the table.
“Take a look at this, Lucy-san!”
Wendy found a letter. It was addressed to Olga, and the sender was a name that they had heard before.
Ludovic.
This was getting interesting…

Thank you so so much for letting me share this with you and for your feedback ❤️!! So, my idea is that the gaming PC should be able to play all current and upcoming games on very or ultra-high settings without any issues (e.g. Alan Wake 2, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West, etc.), be silent and not overheat quickly and have good airflow, and have space for expansions and/or upgrades.
Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow RGB Edition, glass window, white CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 8x 4.2GHz, 96MB L3 cache or AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D, 12x 4.4GHz, 128MB L3-Cache => I'm a bit indecisive on which one here. Mainboard: Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX, AMD B650 Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 12GB, Gigabyte Aero OC RAM: 32GB DDR5-6000 Corsair Vengeance RGB, 2x 16GB, white SSD: 2TB Western Digital Black SN850X, read up to 7.300 MB/s Power supply: 850W Corsair RMe 2023, fully modular CPU cooler: Corsair iCUE H100i RGB Elite, white, 240mm
It's a bit on the pricey side, but I'm willing to order it if it can do well and I don't need to upgrade it in a bit, especially, because I don't think there'll be many more games with higher graphics as there are currently.
Hey love, that's a kickass build!!! I would go for the Ryzen 9 7900X3D instead. Simply because it's stronger and this is a purchase that should last you for a few years. Series 7 is great but there is a 10% more chance for a bottle neck.
My rule of thumb is always to go a bit over with the PSU because if your PSU dies, then it can take your entire PC with it. (It happened to me once, and it was painful!!!) Having said that, I think the minimum for 4070 RTX is 750W, but I would go with 900, perhaps just to be sure. It's not a must.
As for RAM. Go for 64. They are not that expansive and also DDR5 are incredible. I have the Vengence as well :).

Common Things Vulnerable to Y2K38 (+ Explanation)
I want to compile a list of things I find that are vulnerable to the Y2K38 bug. If you find any I don't know about, I can add them to the list. But first, an explanation...
What is Y2K38?
For those that aren't aware, past January 19, 2038 at 3:14:07 UTC (2038-01-19T03:14:07Z), the number of seconds since midnight of January 1, 1970 (1970-01-01T00:00:00Z) will surpass 2^31 - 1.
So what are the implications of this? It has to do with how computers store time.
The Unix epoch is defined as the number of seconds since January 1, 1970, and this is universal to both Unix and Windows systems (so virtually every single computer that doesn't have a homemade operating system). The issue is what specific types of numbers are used to store the epoch.
There are two properties to an integer type: size and sign. The size dictates how many bits a number can hold, and the sign dictates whether or not the integer can store negative numbers. If the number is unsigned, it will be able to store numbers ranging from zero to 2^n - 1, where n is the size of the integer in bits. This means that an 8-bit unsigned number can hold numbers ranging from 0 to 255, because 2^8 - 1 is 255. If a number is signed, the positive range is cut in half. Signed numbers range from -2^(n - 1) to 2^(n - 1) - 1. This means that an 8-bit signed integer can hold numbers ranging from -128 to 127, as -2^7 is -128, and 2^7 - 1 is 127. As integers are used to store the Unix epoch, this means that the epoch is limited to the range of the integer type you use to store it.
If you decide to use a 32-bit signed integer to store the Unix epoch, then once the epoch reaches 2^31 - 1 (which is the upper limit of 32-bit signed integers and is around 2.1 billion), the epoch won't be able to increase anymore. So what happens when we try to increase it anyways? We get an integer overflow.
Due to how CPUs add numbers together, when the result of an operation is larger than the range of the integer type, the result is wrapped around. For example, if you have the number 127 in an 8-bit signed integer, adding one will wrap around to -128! This is a problem for the epoch, because now, instead of storing 2.1 billion seconds past January 1, 1970, it will now be storing 2.1 billion seconds before 1970, which goes all the way back to December 1901!
So why not just use a bigger number? Well, it's not really that simple. There has been an effort to switch over to 64-bit integers, which has an overwhelmingly generous range of around 21 times the estimated age of the universe. However, there are some systems that just can't change or haven't changed for a variety of reasons, and this is what the list will be about. There are two main causes for the Y2K38 bug, and most vulnerabilities stem from them:
32-bit representation of of time_t: time_t is the integer type that time is stored in. When a C program calls the time() function, it will receive a time_t. If time_t is 32-bits long, then the time() function will be vulnerable.
Downcasting the result of time(): There's a pattern in programming I like to call "int-defaultness". C's primitive types are not named with sizes. Instead, they are called 'char', 'short', 'int', and 'long'. These types are standardised to be at least 8 bits, 16 bits, 32 bits, and 64 bits respectively, but most platforms just use those sizes exactly. Usually, you would use exact-sized types like int16_t, uint64_t, and so on, or if it's a function like time(), you would use time_t. However, it is a common pattern to default to int as an integer type, and someone who isn't careful may just convert the result of the time() function into an int. This is known as downcasting, which is the conversion from one integer type to a smaller one. Regardless of whether or not time_t is 32 bits or 64 bits, this downcast will always convert the time to 32 bits, and the overflow behaviour will apply, leaving PHP vulnerable.
As you can see, the time() function is the root cause of the bug, and due to its popularity, usages and mimics of time() can be left vulnerable.
So, without further ado, here is...
The List of Vulnerabilities
PHP time() function: PHP has a time() function that acts very similar to C's, and if the size of a PHP int is 32 bits, PHP is left vulnerable.
pcap file format: The pcap file format (used by libpcap, which is used by utilities like tcpdump and Wireshark) is a format for storing captured packets, and the specification states that the timestamps of packets must stored in a 32-bit unsigned integer. Luckily, since it is unsigned, this will overflow in the year 2106, but there is still some vulnerability here. The PcapNG file format uses 64-bit timestamps, which prevents the vulnerability.
Embedded systems: Smaller computers have a tendency towards lower bit-widths, and 32 bits is common. Embedded systems control things like radios, elevators, GPSes, and more things that don't require heaps of computation power. These systems commonly define time_t to be 32 bits, making them vulnerable.

28.10.24
Chris asked me to try and help his friend Woody with a laptop problem.
The laptop, which is a Lenovo ThinkPad T400 from 2008 has been used for car diagnostics for many years.
Woody wanted to upgrade the diagnostic software, but found that the laptop wouldn't connect to the internet.
When I examined the laptop, I saw that it was running Microsoft Windows 7, which had never been updated since it was installed in 2015. The machine had previously ran Windows Vista (2007).
This meant that it was running Internet Explorer 8 which ended support in 2020 and is known to have many security flaws which make it basically unusable.
The laptop had been configured to disable automatic update. It is likely that automatic updates would no longer work in any case because they depend on the underline Internet Explorer Browser.
I managed to install a version of Mozilla's Firefox Browser, one that still supports Windows 7 by downloading it onto a USB stick on a different computer.
I installed the 32-bit version of Firefox 115 ESR, which is the last supported version for Windows 7. I chose the 32-bit version because this edition of Windows 7 is 32-bit instead of 64-bit.
Using Firefox, I successfully connected to the internet and played a YouTube video, which you can see in the video below.
I also had a look at the various themes that the user could apply to the look and feel. Windows 7 was the last version to feature a user selectable Classic theme and system sound effects!
The default theme was called Aero. Also featured in Vista, this theme featured translucency, glass effects that required a decent PC at the time of its release.
The taskbar in Windows 7 was called the 'Super bar' as it allowed for pinning applications by default and was larger in size than previous versions. This could all be configured in the properties dialogue, which would be moved into the settings in Windows 10.
I gave the laptop back to Chris to give to Woody. He will now be able to download and install the updated diagnostics software.
Ideally, Woody should upgrade the laptop to a later version of Windows such as Windows 8.1 or 10, but even if he doesn't, it should still continue to work provided he does not connect it to the network.
It was fun trying out Windows 7 once again.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7
Windows 7 was released in 2009 and was a successful operating system like Windows XP which was released in 2001!
Windows 7 intended to fix the issues in Windows Vista.
Its development started in 2006, with a beta release in 2008 under the codename Vienna. Its first and only service pack (SP1) came out in 2011.
Windows 7 used the Vista kernel, which is still used today as a base for compatibility in all later versions of Windows.
Mainstream support for Windows 7 ended in 2015 and extended support ended at the start of 2020.
Chris took the Lenovo laptop back to Woody and they successfully downloaded the diagnostics software through the Firefox browser and it worked perfectly.
A complete success!

Klaine Valentine's Challenge Day 7
It Had To Be You
Notes: For this challenge I'm writing snippets in my Mediator!Klaine AU. More info here. This snippet takes place in the third arc, shortly after the "When I'm 64" section.
The sight of Blaine lounging on the window seat, bathed in golden evening light (although he did not, of course, cast a shadow) and reading one of Kurt’s books propped up in front of him would normally fill Kurt with joy. Tonight, it just compounded the dread he already felt.
Blaine looked up at him, all honey eyes and soft smile. “Hello there,” he said.
Kurt felt awful. This wonderful boy loved him, and Kurt had betrayed him. Blaine loved him, but how could that ever be enough? There was too much else in the way.
“Look,” Kurt said, tossing his bag and jacket aside. “We should talk.”
A crease formed between Blaine’s eyebrows. “What about?”
Kurt bit his lip. “I’ve just been thinking about - us. About this situation.”
Blaine closed the book. “Situation?”
“Obviously your options are limited,” Kurt said, beginning to pace back and forth.”I don’t want you to be with me because you feel you have to, or - you know, just because I like you doesn’t mean you have to pity me and -”
Blaine stood up and reached out, catching Kurt by the forearms and ceasing his movement. “Kurt,” he said. “I’ve been around for a long time. I’ve known a lot of people, on both sides of death.” He stared into Kurt’s eyes. “No one has ever made me feel the way you do. It’s you. Not because you’re a mediator, because you’re Kurt.”
Kurt melted into his embrace. “I love you.”
Blaine held him tightly. “I love you, too.”

Hi, I love your profile and sims! I’m ‘kind of’ new to the sims world! I’ve been playing since 2018, but not religiously. I just wanted to ask about your mods folder (sorry if it states somewhere on your profile these kind of questions aren’t allowed, i’m new to tumblr too and still understanding how it works). Feel free to ignore this question if it’s not allowed. I understand that by having lots of folders within the mods folder it can make the game lag. I just wanted to ask how your mods folder looks? As I want to keep mine tidy and be able to find certain cc easily. I’m also in the process of buying a pc as I am currently using a macbook and have so much cc it’s starting to not work… If you have any tips or suggestions with having a pc (if you have one yourself) and how your set up looks, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!! 🤍
Hello, gorgeous and welcome to the Sims 4 community🤍 Thanks for the nice words, I really appreciate it.. Of course I will not ignore the questions, I never do that, the only thing is that I need a little more time to sit down and answer all wcifs. Sorry for the wait😊
Regarding my Mods folder, the most important thing for me is to have subfolders named as creators. It looks something like this
Tumblr media
The only thing that I have named and separated differently are these folders where I insert mostly mods with scripts and this last subfolder where mostly all creations related to arranging Sims in Cas.
Tumblr media
I hope this will help you to organize your Mods folder at least a little🤍
As for my PC Setup, I made it with the help of a worker in a computer shop. I told him roughly what I need it for, what I use it for the most, and I told him that I wanted a slightly stronger computer.
These are the specs of my computer:
Operating System: Windows 11 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 22631) (22621.ni_release.220506-1250)
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co.Ltd.
System Model: B550 GAMING X V2 BIOS: FB (type: UEFI)
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 8-Core Processor (16 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 12
Graphic card:
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060

Quite simple😊
I hope I helped, I'm here if you need any more advice🤍

My Windows XP x64 desktop. I have it installed on my main PC alongside other operating systems, and boot into it to either mess about with, get a nostalgia hit, or play around and try to get stuff not-supporting-XP working.
Windows XP remains surprisingly usable today. There are several updated web browsers - one recent appearance is Supermium, which ports the newest/almost-newest Chromium and permits use of Discord, Youtube etc without a sweat under XP (plus it has several privacy tweaks from Ungoogled Chromium, for those conscious of that).
Windows XP had an especially vibrant custom theme landscape - in part because it remained supported and widely used for a humongous amount of time. As such people made great-quality custom themes that encompass all kinds of design trends that popped up over the years. The theme used by me here is "Watercolor Emico: Black" by Jamush, which is one of my all-time favorites.
In service of 4/13, which happened yesterday, I have put up a Homestuck wallpaper, in this instance one of my favorite ones that has stuck around with me on those XP x64 setups ^^. I believe that this
is the original, but it has a couple of small quirks, like the way darker space on the right. I have wrangled it quite a bit on my own end, but I don't remember what I precisely did since it's been ages. It does appear to be a vectorized picture of Skaia, which would make it "recreatable" for anyone interested. Overall, I enjoy using this system - I normally use Linux, but when I get a desire to use Windows this usually does perfectly. It does, however, have several things that later Windowses clearly do better - for example, the audio system got greatly enhanced in Vista, with per-application volume settings. Additionally, and this may be a problem with my drivers, I get pops and slight skips in certain programs and games (for example, VVVVVV) under XP that I do not get on other systems. Older Windowses certainly had their own warts indeed (as someone who generally doesn't like newer Windowses, I do apprecieate being able to use older Windows versions regularly, to have further perspective on what changes in the later versions I would call definite improvements, and what I would rather have be similar to the older versions ^^)
A very important thing to note is that my hardware is old enough for XP x64 to still be supported driver-wise. You generally can't install Windows XP on newer hardware by default, and while there are modded drivers, custom drivers and workarounds, it is certainly not a task for the feeble. Additionally, the XP x64, being based on Server 2003, and not being a particularly common system (Vista/7 were the first x64 OS's that properly "took off" to put it highly clumsily), has spottier driver support than "regular" 32-bit XP. Indeed, I have to use my GPU with a single screen, as plugging in a second monitor bluescreens the computer! (this is an issue with the driver under specifically 64-bit systems, and while there is a patched version for a later driver version than what I use, that driver version has its own issues and keeps resetting itself into washed-out-colors-mode (clamping the colours to 16-235/"limited RGB" ). So I stick with the older driver version and just use it with a single screen) So yeah, have an inpromptu-and-overlong description of an OS install I have particularly enjoyed messing about with recently :D
