Yet another Wittebane hot take

But I don't think that Philip was born evil.

As a kid I see him as antisocial but very sweet. (Like the collector in a way) He loves to play pretend and explore the woods acting like a knight. And brags about his brother being the top soldier.

When Caleb got Flapjack, he stayed with Philip when Caleb worked to keep him safe but also slowly get him used to magic before it was thrown in his face.

Eventually, Evelyn was introduced to him (hiding that she was a witch) also as a way to slowly show that witches were not evil as he was shown. Evelyn started to babysit him kinda, also when Caleb was out of the house. The only reason why Philip tolerated her was because 1: Caleb as lonely to the point it annoyed Philip, and 2 she bribed him with her younger siblings that matched his wildness.

I imagine him to be like Muffin from Bluey Wild and Sassy

The only reason he turned on witches was that when Evelyn was revealed to be a witch, Caleb left, which rid him the only person who could help him process this scary new information. And thus it scared him so bad that he wanted to save him from the dangers of witches.

Basically, if Caleb was any good at communicating, Philip wouldn't have turned into the person he became

Wittebane AU concept!Formalin🥀

WE NEED IT

Caleb is suddenly resurrected, BUT a grimwalker already exists and have the same attachment issues as Philip does

What’s the drama? — Philip is in a process of becoming Belos, attempts to create a “perfect version of Caleb”. He succeeds, and the latest grimwalker is indeed quite similar to the original (at least in his appearance).

BUT at some point something goes nuts (might be a wrong experiment on Caleb’s bones/Caleb from past jumps into present/whatever) and Caleb is alive.

Philip is obviously happy, family reunion, yay. Caleb is terrified by seeing “a real reflection of himself outside a mirror”, but the fact that Philip is on the way becoming a cult leader is even more horrific for him.

BUT guess who is NOT happy? A grimwalker(let’s keep the name Hunter), who discovers that he will be soon discarded like a trash. His reaction? Might be to run away or kill his creator for cruelty and betrayal.

BUT instead of doing so, Hunter follows the very same path of his ‘mentor’ — he is attached to Philip just like Philip was attached to Caleb. This obsession makes Hunter to ignore the fact that he was actually a copy of someone else, a mere tool for Philip’s twisted manipulations.

Hunter forgives Philip everything, because he knows that he is the one Philip needs the most. He IS BETTER than the original Caleb.

So the grimwalker kills Caleb and takes his place (check the song Formalin by Flëur).

At first, Philip doesn’t even notice the difference, because Hunter uses some spells to hide pointy ears and magenta eyes. He is almost identical to Caleb.

But eventually the truth goes out and Philip is horrified — his own creation closed the misery loop like a cruel joke. A copy kills the original.

How dare he?! But Hunter’s answer is simple and flat — HE IS THE ORIGINAL

Perfect Caleb has NEVER existed. Philip made up a perfect image of his brother, canonized him as a Saint. But real Caleb is far from that.

BUT Hunter IS. Hunter IS fully dedicated to Philip. Hunter IS that canonized image of a brave, strong, smart, loving, protective older brother. He knows Philip BETTER than Caleb

So the original Caleb has NEVER been the real one. Just a mere copy. And a blank copy does not deserve to protect his precious Pip.

Hunter knows the best, he takes the place of the original. He ‘saves’ Philip from cruel injustice of a copy.

Eventually, Hunter either wipes off Philip’s memory and lives with him till the very death.

…Or simply kills Philip too. Despite all attempts to manipulate (physically and psychologically) him into “acting like a loving family”, Pip is too stubborn to accept the murder. He would even try to kill Hunter, but once again the grimwalker knows Philip too well (Philip won’t be ever able to escape from him)

Hunter was created with one main task - “to make your Lord happy”. And if he fails, then he might try and create ‘a better God’, right? His own little Pip, to love and cherish.

That’s how it ends — the apogee of Wittebanes’ drama.

Their family is finally perfect and happy. And who can tell that there is no “reflection in the mirror” anymore?
