🔁 A fic you’ve re-read several times

This feels like an impossible question because I've re-read quite a few. I narrowed it down to a few options, but I'll save one of those for if I get asked the 😭 question and offer a full fic rec and two drabbles.

"Have you been wounded by the Loki S2 finale? Then you may be entitled to compensation in the form of fics that pick you up, dry your tears, and offer solutions." This fic fits that bill! It's sweet, funny, has delicious emotional hurt/comfort, and it's a clever take on how Lokius could be reunited.

2. It's no secret that I love President Loki so I've re-read a lot in that tag. Allow me to highlight chapters 30 (SFW) and 66 (NSFW) of For All Time? Always by chaircat (not sure of their tumblr name).

Not only do these both feature President Loki, but both (definitely the second, but also the first imo) are Loki/Mobius/President Loki, which I find very fun. 😈 And there's just not enough of it!

😂 A fic that made you laugh out loud

I rarely laugh out loud when reading (though I might be chuckling to myself), but the way the tension builds so innocently in this one set me up so that when I hit one line in particular, I actually went, "Ha!" out loud. Love it when writing can do that. 😂

💯 A fic that makes you think #writergoals

This one's easy! I was just thinking along these lines while reading @doomed-spectacles latest, Paper trail. Or, traces of you. Just, wow. Their blend of humor and tenderness and spice floored me. The prose rendered me speechless. It's the kind of fic that, after reading, makes me sit back and go, "What am I doing with my (writing)life?" And I mean that in the best way possible!

💘 A fic you couldn't stop reading once you started

Kneel for Me by @ceeceetv. I saw the post while I was getting ready for bed and even though my partner had already put his phone away and gone to bed, I stayed up and kept reading because I. Could. Not. Stop. I knew if I tried to save it for the next day, I was just going to lie in bed, unable to sleep, because I couldn't stop thinking about it. And I'm still not done thinking about it, to be quite honest!!

📚 A fic you wish you could display on your bookshelf

I love this question because to me, it's about picturing what the fic would look like if bound, and I think your spirit box would have the raddest cover and super cool interior illustrations, a la Starling House (but maybe I'm influenced by that also being a book with a sentient house.)

I feel like I need to give a special shoutout to The Storyteller Saga by @kcscribbler because after @izumiyagami14 went and made the dang thing a real book, how could i not want that on my shelf??

This final catch-up post collects all of the recs I had left and I'm not planning any more. Oh, so many! All of the fics that do things I can't do: plotty action/drama, or complex dual timelines, or low-stakes but still compelling modern AUs like the switch.

👀 A fic that you love a normal amount

Say Anything was a formative movie for me and The Biggest Fool is the perfect post-canon coda. If I were a Hollywood producer, it would have been filmed as the sequel.

😊 A fic that made you smile on a bad day

In a cranky phase last week, I re-read @lucymonster's wonderful gift for me after the world ends and it lifted my mood.

I know I like to declare my taste in books/films/music being garbage but when it comes to fics I have excellent taste:

🔁 A fic you’ve re-read several times

I rarely re-read fics although I'm avid bookmarker. Buut if I'd had to choose a fic I would never get tired of reading over and over again that would be Home is Where Your Teeth Sink, Love by timetoboldlygo. The portrayal of Vegas' abusive behavior and Pete's devil-may-care attitude inflicts great interactions between the two. There's a bunch of scenes I've savored deep in my heart which is why I'd mention this being also the fic I wish I could read again for the first time. I also remember liking the pacing very much.

👀 A fic that you love a normal amount

I love love love fics where Pete and Vegas are being weird in their little bubble. Honorable mentions to Pete gnawing Vegas' hand without explanation in Bite the Hand by ghosthouses and VP being all sappy about killing each other in Sweet Death by L_C_Weary.

💯 A fic that makes you think #writergoals

Two! I have two! First is Baby We're Nothing But Violence by Mawa. Intense is the only word I can think of with this one. I appreciate the effort to depict the ugly side of Vegas' and Pete's relationship which is anything but healthy.

The other one is Wholeness by 99_9. What I idolize the most is the feel of easiness as if writing this was a walk in the park. Quite amazing, really.

I'm actually going to answer these for both lokius and spideypool to be fair to what fandom you read for and also to what I'm reading for right now.

2. 🔁 A fic you’ve re-read several times

There's a clear theme in these.

i could show you by jilliancares

I think this was the first real gender-affirming trans porn I had ever read and kept on re-reading. It's so good. It's very hot and I love everything about the smut and the dynamics but it's also just - a trans guy talking about oral sex and his disappointing experiences with it and there's a lot of intimacy in the way that's handled. It's just very real so the fantasy of it is even realer. I have read this one many, many times.

Turnabout loop - Mirilya

The Mobius coochie fic. It's great. I could say that I love the idea of Loki using his magic for shapeshifting his partner in bed and the genderbending of it, which I do. It's also just hot. Objectively. I think there needs to be more fics with this exact thesis of Mobius getting eaten out. I support it.

morning in the burned house by antivenom

Just a really stunning character study and piece of prose. It's such a complicated, nuanced approach to Wade Wilson as a character and his relationship with Spider-Man. It has my favorite approach to a backstory I've seen for in the fandom. This just really sits with him as a character and explores the side roads and back alleys of his brain and the reason he is who he is. It's beautiful. I think anything that sits with you afterward is something I am inspired by, and this sits with me.

The Shapeshifter's Guide to Butt Stuff by comrade_bucket

I just recommended the first part of this series (and the whole series is #writergoals) but this one is so conceptual, so out there, so fucking weird and strange and beautiful that every time I read it I'm struck at what a piece of art it is. The way this work addresses genderfludity, god-hood, the human experience, love, gender conformity, and compromise is just so wonderful. I would love to write something as strange and shocking and daring as this! Again, both installments of this series including The-Infinity-Year-Old Virgin are both something I love to re-read and also get inspired by every time. The endings on both of these are something I've taken notes on.

I got really into the Wickerman tag the other day and this AMV is one of my favorite things I've ever seen.

15. 📚 A fic you wish you could display on your bookshelf

They're both by the same author, surprise. (I think it's funny that @primewritessmut wrote two masterpieces in my favorite genres.) I also have told them before that I would book bind them both, and I am extra serious about doing it for the second one.

Songs for the Zombie Apocalypse by zerospoons_onlyknives

I love zombies. They're my favorite horror genre and I have read and watched as much of it as possible but it's so rare to find the good stuff because no one goes far enough. (Prime goes farther.) It's dark, demented, violent, gloriously unwell and erotic. It's not a love story, it's something so much more interesting, and each chapter I got to read in advanced had more and more tangled in it. The ending is unbelievably glorious. It was one of those things that I was like "this feels written for me" and it wasn't (and it kind of was) but I enjoyed it so much. It deserves to be bound in a book that looks suspiciously like human skin.

Midori Sour - oprime

This is the hallmark rom-com bait and switch psychological thriller family drama slice of life romance of all time. It's so good. It really has no business being as good as it is. The idea is so fun and the dynamics are great and the setting and side-characters are so lived in but the underlayers of this. I want this book bound so I can just re-read sections and underline the lines that stick through onto the other side. I love this thing so much. It's so human and compelling and deliciously deep. The depth that Prime goes in on with this one is just unbelievable. I love it very much. I would bind it in green leather and put a little fruity drink in the middle of it and highlight the whole thing in a green neon with red on the cherries.

I think it's funny that these are both series.

Bad Things - wanderingflame

I was so, so obsessed with this when I first read it. I remember sitting in a car outside a thrift store just binging through it (and then I re-read it at least two times.) I also think @in-my-loki-feels is the first person I have ever asked to write inspired work for (and also, found out we both share the same feelings on inspired work lmao) because I was just so enchanted by this story. It's so fresh, thoughtful, compelling, and just the right hint of dark. Their passion for these characters and the nuanced groves of their natures is just - god, it's so good. We have a very "writers who like each other's work" friendship in a way I really appreciate.

gunpowder triology - periodicallypuzzled

It's rare for me to find a writer with such a personality through their work. I couldn't get enough of this series when I first read it - the humor, the personality, the characterization, the heart juxtaposition with the grit. I don't often say "I really want to know the person who wrote this" but I remember thinking that after reading that. @periodically-puzzled read something of mine and offered to exchange discord handles and after that we became friends. I should also re-read this, now that I'm thinking about it again.

📆 A fic you’d re-read 10 years from now

i feel like this is unfair because there are SO MANY and honestly there are fics that i read 10 years ago that i have definitely reread like close to yearly! i know that you said rebelcaptain.......... BUT walk with me for a second.

first and foremost if anyone here has sat still long enough in my presence i have probably told you about Parabiosis by Penumbra (x files, mulder/scully). definitely the single most influential and life-altering fic for me. i am actually i nthe middle of a reread right now.

snippet:

Outside he boiled water over the minute canister stove, and made instant coffee from a foil packet dented by bear's teeth. He carried his cup around the gully in the fog, gleaning dead wood. He imagined that he was some kind of desperado and Scully was his feisty little gun moll. They hid out in the high places and life was pure and as simple as keeping the campfire small and not silhouetting oneself on the ridge line. He had to admit to himself that he would manage to complicate any life he inhabited. Scully would be the first to point out that he was not a peaceable being. He built a campfire purely for the pleasure of watching her stand over it, warming her hands in the smoke. She gripped a cup of coffee and wore the shell-shocked stare of the newly-awoken. She had a pillow crease in her cheek and long underwear on under her jeans. She was damp, diaphanous, bed-haired early-morning gorgeous, and Mulder felt a kind of religious awe that his life contained this moment.

from the Mad Max: Fury Road (max/furiosa) side of things, Glow by @sacrificethemtothesquid is a reread for me almost routinely. this is what inspired Such a Being Within. it's just so intense and beautiful.

“Drink something,” she chokes out, because it’s the first thing that pops into her head. “ Now . Do it.”

“Did,” he says, and gestures to the car.

“ Again ,” she snaps, and he reaches into the window to grab his canteen. She watches as he takes a few short, careful swallows, and it’s the most gorgeous sight she’s ever seen. She’s seen him naked, seen him above and below her, seen him unravelled by her own five fingers, but she has never felt as wild and enraptured as she does right now.

There’s water glistening in the stubble above his lip, and she’s riding the hard edge of hysteria. as for rebelcaptain there are many, many candidates but i feel ike From Niamos, With Love by @princessniitza has got to be it. I've already read it about 5 times.

i mean... any of those fics i just recc'd above. honestly, anything i read that i fall in love with... that's kind of a requisite feeling. anything that @melyzard has ever written. the amount of detail and the way she writes just makes me wail in pain, love and envy.

Love is a Verb particularly.

Cassian has read every piece of information he could get on the daughter. Erso’s daughter, the last viable route that the Empire has to a weapon that makes the Analysis department wring their hands anxiously and the senior agents in Intelligence pace through the temple halls like an axe hangs over their heads. She’s a criminal, an opportunist merc, a loner, and perilous with a weapon (although that last part is based more on hearsay from various other thieves, criminals, and mercs that he talked to as he hunted through the stars for her).  She grew up in a rebel group increasingly known throughout the galaxy for it's brutality. She’s spent the last six months in a high-security Imperial work prison, her wrists are still in shackles, and even from halfway across the room Cassian can see how her rough clothes hang off her underfed frame.

So when she raises her chin and speaks to the leaders of the Alliance like she’s a general meeting them on her own terms, like she has some kind of choice to walk away from this table if she doesn’t like the bargain they offer, Cassian finds himself mildly impressed.

tragedy in your blood by YOU!!!!! i distinctly remember the first time i read this... i was in bed and then i had to get out of bed and wash my face because i thought i was slick and thought i could hide my tears from my husband but that wasn't actually true. it's just SO GOOD and they LOVE EACH SO MUCH FUCK. even just thinking about it makes my eyes burn and my chest tighten FUCK.

“You were shot in the leg and captured. They gave you some psychoactive drug to question you. You were high when we found you, and it only made your injury worse. 7. A fic that makes you think #writergoals

Gosh, there's so much talent in this space. What inspires this feeling in me is usually one of two things - either creative, delightful prose, or an ingenious plot.

For prose, here's one I read lately: Blade of Sun by @lemonlimelea. All of it is stunning, but that last sentence is truly inspiring.

For plot, I'll do an author rec and a fic.

@citrusses truly has a knack for an incredible twist (just look at her latest teddy/harry) but in all her work she consistently delivers a great story.

for a fic, along each garden wall by @oflights. I've repeatedly marvelled at the plot of this one. it just really really works.

17. A fic you wish you could read again for the first time

I don't often come back for re-reads, and I usually like to read to enjoy how it happens, so erasing my memory of a fic doesn't appeal to me as much. however, this happens naturally over time anyway - there are so many fics I remember loving that are blurry to me now after so many years.

One of those I would love to revisit is probably what we pretend we can't see, by @gyzym.

Draco has an absolute preoccupation with Harry's penis--that's really the heart of the fic. I recently read this fic and cackled continually in my office by myself. It is just utter gleeful genius.

Ill-advised time travel and eighties energy with off-the-charts banter. This is probably the fic that has made me laugh out loud the most of maybe any fic ever. Late nights on the couch absolutely wheezing to myself. What a joy.

Eighth year with a plot twist from the future. I recently just sat with this fic for a while and poured over aideomai's prose. The concept and plot are so electric, there's the perfect amount of detail line by line. Harry and Draco stumble so beautifully through how bad they want each other. Quiet and loud all at once.

Rich Friend by Anonymous

Famous Muggle singer Draco paired with sexy, yearning Harry. I was so damn angry when I read this fic because it was so perfect. Pacing that entices you. Funny, devastating prose. Every line punches you in the gut. Adored it.

2. 🔁 A fic you’ve re-read several times

I'll try not to make the answer to every question be Shoot The Moon, but that's gonna be hard because a quick look at my ao3 history says I've visited this fic 161 times. If STM has 100 fans I am one of them, if it has 10 fans I am one of them, if it has 1 fan that's me haunting ao3 from beyond the grave, etc.

I have a handful of favourite fics that I go back to every now and then, usually when I need something familiar and comforting to soothe my mind after a difficult day, and yeah, that list probably includes heavy angst lmao. Some highlights are Love and Death by @synnthamonsugar, be useful; then be worn thin by @exhaling-dust, Consign Me Not To Darkness by Alisette (please heed the tags on this one), and @xivu-arath's osmium drabbles like verse xlvi (addendum). Screaming, crying, nosebleeding profusely.

Besides STM (lol), I remember reading loyalty/submission and The Brilliance of the Starless Sky by @phthalology for the first time and feeling like an extra inner eye I had not been aware of just cracked open. My other #writergoals are definitely in/vocation and the more i run (the farther away it seems) by @glassedplanets, my beloved Immaru Builds a Utopia by @wonderwafles, and everything @allteacher puts out. Y'all are what I want to be when I grow up.

From other fandoms: The Heart of a Dead Thing by @ewelinakl, la petite mort by @howlingmoonrise (yes it's the barbie/dracula fic, and holy shit it's GOOD), And If I Might Suffer More by muldezgron, and Every creature responds to light by @thiswaycomessomethingwicked, with the addendum that the latter two have quite possibly rewired my neural pathways.

it has to be big name feelings! my fav fanfic of all times. fell in love with it when i read the summary and it only got better with every chapter. i literally joined tumblr cause i wanted to scream about it!!

absolutely wonderful writing! i love the use of work skins its so creative and fun. the pacing was perfect. OH and the illustrations?!!!! dont even get me started. moreover, the foreshadowing and tiny details make the re-reads even better. arghhhh im not being articulate but its just so good like if you havent read it yet where have you been?!

the first fic that came to mind i cant really find. it was a prequel to another fic with crowley and azi as kids. i dont normally like kid fics but it was about them becoming friends and ahhh it was so sweet i just wanted to see their friendship progress! (i'll add the link if i do ever find it)

another one would be date! its so silly but oh so adorable ahhhh just read it, its such a sweet read. loved it sm i wish we got more of this universe.

there are SO many i could namedrop for this. one that absolutely makes me think "I want to be able to write this well" that I don't think I've recommended here yet is is @amaranthsynthesis' One for Death, Two for a Pair (mind the tags). every word is saying something, every stylistic choice feels intentional, the world feels full and deep and like we are not just in it but of it. hard to think of any other fanworks i feel the way i do about interlude i in particular.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The Boy Who Cried Ghost by yukla is one of my all time favorite fics. I'm always turning it over in my mind and looking at all the ways its written and the beats it hits and the moments it amplifies. It is so darn good. It's raw and real and thoughtful. I always feel like I'm sinking my fingers into something when I read it
