Writing a book series with the same characters is a gift and a curse!
You know them better than anyone. You know how they like, what they fear, the way they react to the smallest things. You've spent so much time in their heads, you sometimes forget they aren't real.
But keeping their story alive? Making it matter—again and again? That’s the real challenge.
It’s easy to fall into the comfort of them—their familiar habits, the patterns you’ve built. But with each new book, the question looms: how do you keep it from going stale? How do you make their journey feel fresh, earned, meaningful?
You don’t want to repeat yourself. You don’t want to throw in conflict just for the sake of drama. And you definitely don’t want to change who they are just because the plot demands it.
It becomes a delicate balancing act: growth vs. consistency, surprise vs. authenticity. You’re always chasing that line between who they’ve always been—and who they’re still becoming.
Sometimes, you get stuck. Sometimes, it feels like there's nothing left to say. But then something small happens—an image, a line of dialogue, a sudden thought—and suddenly, you’re back. Not because you forced it, but because you listened. Because deep down, their story wasn’t over. It just needed time.
Writing a series isn’t about reinventing the wheel every time. It’s about deepening the characters, letting them evolve naturally—even when it feels uncomfortable.
And yeah, it’s hard. But it’s also kind of magic. And maybe that’s what keeps us going—not the pressure to top the last book, but the quiet hope that there’s still something left to discover. Something true. Something real.

I was born an adult, self-sufficient, assertive, and strong. I was forced into childhood by fear, forced upon me by crabs with big shells and soft hearts. They taught me how to protect myself from levels of danger I never saw except in them. In my late childhood, I yearned and hesitated, but finally, after being hurt, I let go of all the useless tools I had learned and started being myself again.

Writing Through the Storm: Chapter 8 is Done!
After three intense days of writing, Chapter 8 of Chelsea is complete! This chapter was an emotional rollercoaster for me as a writer—delving into the complexities of identity, family secrets, and forgiveness. There were moments where the words came easily, and others where I felt like I was wrestling with every sentence. But isn’t that just the beauty of storytelling?
Writing this chapter reminded me how raw and cathartic the creative process can be. Chelsea’s journey is full of twists and emotional revelations, and as much as I’m her creator, I feel like I’m unraveling the story alongside her. I hope that when readers dive into this part of the book, they’ll feel the weight of her struggles and her resilience.
Now, as I look toward Chapter 9, there’s a sense of anticipation. Chelsea’s world continues to expand, and I can’t wait to see where her story takes her next—Willowspire Manor and beyond. Writing is often unpredictable, but that’s what makes it so fulfilling.
Thank you to everyone who has been following my journey with Chelsea. Your encouragement means the world to me. Here’s to the next chapter, one word at a time. 💙

I'm currently re-reading a Romantasy by one of my favorite authors. It's a wonderful story, but she occasionally throws modern references and slang in there and when they happen it's jarring. Takes me right out of the story. In a fantasy kingdom where gold, silver, and copper are the currency, telling someone that you're "just giving my two cents" on a subject is nonsensical and utterly modern USA. Likewise, having them eat at a quaint kingdom cafe and rave about how they can't wait to order a green bean casserole (a staple of American Thanksgiving) is like taking a can of french-fried onions to the face. Does this make you crazy, too? Or am I entirely too pedantic?

I just made this edit because well I need your opinion on it, this is the only way I could think of giving my protagonist a happy ending otherwise he dies, no other way about it because well it's the protagonist's problem and this is the only solution I came up with

I’m so tired. I know you all are too. Besides what is happening in the world, it feels like sometimes I can’t tune out the noise. . Besides the world being on fire, as a writer I often find myself, and others, lamenting about how we can’t turn off our writer brains. Whether we are plotting our next book, or feeling down because someone is writing faster than we are, selling more, getting bigger deals, it’s all in there sloshing around in our very fatigued brain. . So here’s what I want you to do: give yourself a freaking break. Some days you don’t need to write. Some days you just need to read, knit, bake, exercise. Whatever you need to do to take care of your own mental state. . The reality is that things will happen for you in their own good time. That book will get written. Whatever your friends are selling, you can get there one day hopefully too. . The truth is, and this was a hard lesson for me to learn, is that you’re not good to anyone if you have nothing left to give. . Think about it. Give yourself, time, space, love, joy. You deserve it, and the people who love you want that for you too! . . . #writerthoughts #writingday #amwriting #amrevising #writercommunity #writergram #pathtopub #publishingworld #writinglife #writersofig #writersoninstagram #authorsofinsta #authorlife #igauthor https://www.instagram.com/p/CEXfcj2AccX/?igshid=17th8hpelogt8

When you accidentally discover a POV
DISCLAIMER: I'm not sure if this has already been done? I guess a lot of poems are written this way... but I've never come across this in novels... but if YOU have, I'd love to know more about this novel!
---
I'm calling it
The Nonexistent POV.
It's a mix between 1st, 2nd and 3rd person limited/omniscient
Like first person, it's the character who's narrating the story. Like 2nd person, its addressed to someone, so theres a 'you'. However, here's where things get crazy. Unlike the 1st person, the character doesnt narrate the story using 'I' but through a 3rd person pronoun like a he, she or they. They can even refer to themselves as an inanimate object/a hostile entity.
So what they're essentially doing is that they're removing themselves from their story, and inserting another entity in their place.
So they're narrating the story, but just not as themselves.
In effect, they nullify themselves. They become non-existent.
Here's a lil sample:
You watch the sunset from atop a cliff. Beside you, on the tip of a rock, your glass jar holds the butterflies you caught. It waits for you to open its lid, so it can watch you smile when the sun shines through their frail wings.
So here, the glass jar isn't an actual glass jar, but a PERSON who sees themselves as a glass jar.
So, there are two people here, or really just one, and that one is the girl who thinks she's the glass jar and herself as another girl, as the one who's watching the sunset.
If that doesn't make sense, it's probably because I'm BAD at explaining. Soo yeah.
---
What do you think about this lil strange POV? Do you think it still falls under the 2nd person POV? Or third? Or is it a completely new POV?
If you wanna know how and why I thought of this strangeness, comment or DM!

Without the capacity for creativity, we are nothing. To create is to understand the inner workings of our minds and the world around us in order to build something new borrowed from the old.
Creativity is beautiful in all its forms.
