Morning Goals 🌅: Start Your Day with Purpose and Energy
Wake Up Early Begin your day on a consistent note by waking up early. This simple habit creates a sense of control over your time and sets the tone for a productive day ahead. Early mornings are quieter, more peaceful, and ideal for focus and self-care.
Hydrate Kickstart your metabolism and rehydrate your body by drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning. This refreshes your system and sets the stage for sustained energy throughout the day.
Mindfulness Practice Dedicate 5-10 minutes to grounding your mind through meditation, journaling, or expressing gratitude. This practice enhances mental clarity, reduces stress, and boosts positivity, helping you approach the day with a focused and calm mindset.
Exercise or Stretch Move your body to awaken your physical energy and improve circulation. A 20-30 minute workout or simple stretching routine is enough to invigorate your muscles and release endorphins, setting you up for a motivated and active day.
Healthy Breakfast Fuel your morning with a balanced, nutrient-rich meal. A good breakfast powers your brain and body, keeping you focused and energized for the challenges ahead.
Set Priorities Take a moment to jot down your top 3-5 tasks for the day. Having clear priorities ensures you remain goal-oriented and productive, tackling your most important objectives with confidence.
Why Morning Goals Matter? Starting your day with intentional actions creates momentum for success. By integrating these simple yet effective habits into your routine, you’ll cultivate a more productive, energized, and fulfilling life. Morning Goals aren’t just tasks—they’re the foundation of a brighter, more purposeful day. 🌞

Now that Twitter's URL has officially changed, lets all join hands and remember that Elon Musk threw away one of the most recognizable, established brands of the past decade due to his personal chuunibyou fascination with the letter X.

Instead of extending the concepts of the proletariat and exploitation to racial or sexual oppression and such like, we should ask ourselves if it is not the other way round. What if the fundamental status of the worker, like the mad, the dead, nature, beasts, children, Blacks and women, was initially to be not exploited but excommunicated? What if he was initially not deprived and exploited but discriminated against and branded?

Primitivity and Postmodernism
I didn’t like the Guerrilla Girls video, but I also couldn’t figure out why. So to try and parse out my feelings, I watched a couple more videos featuring interviews with them--one from The Art Assignment, and one from The Late Show. Through them, I got a little closer to a coherent point.
In a lot of ways, the Guerrilla Girl’s work feels frustratingly insular. In the Art Assignment video, it’s characterized as “the art of complaining” by the host, Sarah Urist Green (who got her MA in art history from Columbia, shouts out), and by the artists themselves. In the same way that they spoke about reclaiming the word “girls,” the Guerrilla Girls seem to have coopted “complaining,” distancing themselves from the pejorative sense and using it instead to characterize their brand of sardonic, visual-culture-based protest. But in spite of how often they insist that their work is more than “pointing a finger at something and saying ‘this is bad’,” and in spite of how often they claim that they’re out to change people’s minds, this doesn’t seem to have been the case. The fact that they’ve been given residency after residency at the very institutions they first set out to change is emblematic of this. And if, in thirty years of work, there’s been next to no significant change in the industry you’ve claimed to be reforming--something the Guerrilla Girls admit to in all three videos--some serious questions have to be asked about the efficacy of your efforts.
I don’t disagree that the Guerrilla Girls have produced some truly iconic protest literature and visual culture over the course of their shared career. But that has to be squared against the fact that, over time, their activities have been welcomed into the art world, and that this welcoming has rendered them inert.
Curating an exhibition in the Venice Biennale that includes large-scale prints of their work doesn’t constitute effective activism--even though they were the first female curators in the history of the museum, even though they made posters that directly implicated the Biennale in a long history of curation practices that rehearsed the erasure and/or oppression of black and brown and female artists and subjects. Instead, I felt that this residency and basically all of their other ones were a kind of complicity in those systems, wherein they allowed what was initially a literal protest to be subsumed by industry via commodification, and not only sold by the offending institutions for profit, but first put on display as performative self-awareness; if they can appear to be aware of their problems, the museums can net the sort of people who would be likely to criticize them for those same problems, and therefore they can continue to profit of them, only now in an ironic way. And for whatever reason, the Guerrilla Girls walked right into the trap. It’s a perfect instantiation of the Marxist critique of protest.
I think the SNL skits are just a different version of the same thing; whether the writers genuinely believe in feminism or in the difficulty of being “the right kind of feminist” or in the irony of male allies talking over the women they ostensibly support doesn’t matter. What matters is that NBC can capitalize off of it by netting an audience who would otherwise criticize their show for lacking these sensitivities.
Out of this curation, Janelle Monae’s Q.U.E.E.N. is the exception to this, completely because of its Afro-futurism. Afro-futurism is not just a literary movement and it never has been; fundamentally, Afro-futurism is the belief that there is a way to build a future that is contingent on black experiences, a future that has its basis in the history/culture generated by people of the African diaspora, rather than the history/culture of the white West. Necessarily, this does mean that part of Afro-futurism’s project is producing culture in the form of books, movies, and music. But it also means that just in existing and continuing to exist, Afro-futurism is fulfilling itself, regardless of whether or not it’s commodified.
I think part of the reason institutions can so readily capitalize off of protest movements is because along with postmodernism came the splintering of meaning and the devaluation of identities that were attached to larger systems like nations and religion (as Wendy Brown talks about), such that people are always searching for new things to identify with, to localize themselves in an otherwise unspecified, meaning-defuse world. I think Afro-futurism, an identity that is generated for its own sake out of its own history, with no other goal in mind, is a good model for the way forward in postmodernism; rather than creating identities that are oriented around change-making, but still aren’t resistant to being exploited and rendered inert, I think we should form identities that are self-fulfilling, and that take up social change as one of their projects, but don’t use them as their primary points of identification--like that of Monae’s Q.U.E.E.N.s, who represent the Queer community, Untouchables, Emigrants, Excommunicated, Negroid (source). I think doing this could help to distance ourselves from our work a bit, enough to notice when people are trying to take advantage of it, and in doing so, make it ineffective.
