“Stop laughing. This isn’t funny!”
Jungkook makes a face at you, unable to hold his laughter in. “This is too good. Golden even. I can’t believe my luck today—”
“You know what? Forget about it. My bad,” you mumble, beginning to feel embarrassed.
Jungkook had just entered your bedroom and found you opening a box of condoms. He isn’t too sure why the sight of you doing so was so hilarious, he just knows it is.
“W-what? No!” Jungkook begins to plead, taking the box of condoms from your hands and putting them aside. “___, of course, I wanna fuck. What kind of fucking idiot do you think I am? And XL? You must’ve thought about me a lot, huh?”
“Fuck you.”
“Sure," he takes this moment in, “is now a good time?”
You cross your arms at him, giving him an annoyed look. “Why are you laughing then?”
“Because… I didn’t think this would happen again.” Jungkook confesses, a little afraid of your reaction. When to comes to other peoples feelings, you’re not the soft type. Yet, when it comes to your own; you are almost always overly sensitive. He’s learned this about you simply over time. It’s endearing to him and annoying to others.
You shrug at him, taking an article of your clothing off. Tossing it at him, you gesture for him to do the same. He then pulls his sweater over his head and drops it on the ground along with your shirt. Jungkook keeps his eyes on you as you begin to strip more and more. His eyes follow each curve that gets exposed and he can’t help but wonder why his throat is suddenly dry. It’s weird because he swears he’s probably drooling right now.
When you’re down to just your panties and bra, you take a step towards him. Wrapping your arms around his neck, he gulps as you inch closer to him. You’d be an idiot not to notice his sudden change of stance.
It’s obvious.
Jungkook has folded.
“Do you have feelings for me, Jungkook?”
You ask him this calmly.
Your words and the tone you used to ask don’t seem to match. The words itself carry so much possibility of change and chance… Yet, the way you said it was so distant and meaningless. It’s like it wasn’t a big deal. It’s like… It didn’t even matter if he said yes.
He takes a moment too long to answer.
“Spit it out, you little shit.”
“N-no,” he attempts to sound convincing. You had already made him a fool once this evening… He wasn’t going to let you have the victory of being a joke to you again. “It’s you. You like me.”
Tilting your head, you pout at him. “Don’t make assumptions. Your ego won’t be able to handle rejection.”
“I’m not assuming and you’re not exactly rejecting me,” he grumbles, feeling defensive. “Just admit it. You’ve wanted me the second we met.”
You wiggle your finger at him. “Stop projecting, pookie bear.”
Jungkook makes a sour face. “Ohh… Yeah, it does sound bad.”
“See?” you laugh, hitting his chest lightly.
“How about… I stop calling you pookie bear—”
You gasp, “okay! Loving this…”
“When you stop denying—”
In a panic, you interrupt him; “hating it…”
“Come on,” he groans. “You have to admit it. You like me at least a little bit… That’s why you and I fucked a month ago. It was all the built-up tension.” He says it like he knows it in his heart. Like there’s no other answer than what he just stated. For a moment, you believe him.
Instead, you remember that night and you recall what had led up to it. You had just gotten dumped for the nth time by your shithead of a boyfriend. Jungkook saw you walking home and cheered you up to your apartment. From there, it just happened.
It was so easy.
It felt so effortless and like it was meant to happen. That understanding… Felt weird. You did your best to forget about it and how it made you feel but it takes two to tango and your partner in crime felt differently. Ever since that day, he has not shut the fuck up.
That day, Jungkook found himself in between your legs and you found yourself self-loathing the next morning. It wasn’t in your intentions to use Jungkook the way you did.. But he didn’t seem to have a problem with it. Which brings you to this conclusion:
“What are you trying to get out of me, Jungkook? A confession?”
He shrugs, feeling indifferent. “I’m not demanding anything from you.”
You shake your head at him. “What the fuck? Jungkook, you can’t be my rebound.”
“Why not?” he whines childishly.
“It’s mean.”
Jungkook takes a moment to contemplate. Ultimately, he snaps out of it and brushes his thoughts off as if he didn’t even try to think things through. “It’s okay. I have a crush on you so I’m going into this completely delusional and shit.”
Rolling your eyes at him, you pinch his cheeks. “Can you stop goofing around? Be real. I might be more interested in you if you do.”
He glares at you.
“Fine,” Jungkook gives in. “I’m just fucking with you. To be honest, I’m just trying to be here for you. As a friend and all… If fucking around is what you need, then so be it. Whatever you want from me, you can have. You just have to ask.”
You purse your lips at him, not buying a single word he offers you. Regardless, you inch closer. Bantering with him is actual agony… But, you can’t resist him. It’s a weird pull he has on you and you rather die than to admit it to him.
Instead, you let your actions speak for you. It’s the most you’ll do in terms of confessing or even processing how you feel about him. All you know and all you want to know is how he feels against, inside, and on top of your body. You your lips on his neck, near his collarbone. At first, you kiss it lightly. Then, as you pull away, you suck on it a bit. Repeating this motion, you work on giving him a hickey.
“I…”
“You?”
“I wanna fuck.”
Your room looks the same as it did a month ago. He feels so lucky to be here again.. But holy shit; you're a piece of work.
Is he a joke to you? Is that it? Because Jungkook has been in complete distress for a good five minutes now and he doesn’t know what to do.
“Fucking hold still,” Jungkook grunts, as he pins you down. His hands cover your wrist and all you can do is giggle. He does his best to compose himself. If he lets his emotions get in the way, you'll laugh even more.
“I can’t—it’s poking me!”
He rolls his eyes at you. “It's my dick, ___. Of course, it's gonna feel like that."
"It feels weird,” you giggle. “Why is it so big?”
"Don't call my dick weird.”
You squint at him. “I also called it big.”
“Well, it’s gonna stop being big if you don’t stop fucking laughing at it.”
You tighten your lips. “Sorry, sorry.”
Jungkook takes a deep breath and tries again.
He guides himself between your folds and glances at you to see if you’re behaving any better. Holding in your laughter, you shut your eyes and try to concentrate on how it feels.
How velvety the skin of his thick, veiny, and hard cock is. How wet the head is. How big it is as he pushes himself inside you.
You open your eyes and boom.
There he is.
So handsome and on top of you. His silver neckless dangles in the space between you and him. Your eyes flutter at the way it moves according to his thrusts. It feels like you could go dizzy.
Then, you blink and see him suddenly close his eyes and lean in towards you. Out of an odd relfex, you squirm and let out a loud burst of laughter.
“What the fuck?” Jungkook cries, completely frustrated with you. “___, are you serious?”
In between laughs, you tell him; “I was trying! But you were leaning in to kiss me and the way you shut your eyes looked so stupid—you look so s-stupid—w-what the fuck?”
Jungkook grips your wrists and puts them above your head. He towers over you even more and the expression on his face is hard to read. He looks angry but not in a scary way. He looks desperate and needy but not in the loser way… He looks insanely hot right now. You feel yourself clench, getting tighter around him.
“You love fucking with me, don’t you?” he hisses. “Do you want me to fuck you or not?”
You nod in response.
“Then fucking behave.”
You nod again.
He shakes his head, dissatisfied with your response. He lets go of your wrists and cups your cheeks together with his one hand. With your lips smushed together, he asks you; “answer me properly.”
“Y-yes,” you murmur, “I’ll behave.”
Cockily, he raises his brow at you. “Good. Now open your mouth.”
You do as he says. He loosens his hold on you, letting you open your mouth on your own. When you do so, you watch him accumulate spit. Quickly, he spits inside your mouth.
You spit it back out at him.
“Sike.”
His own saliva hits his face. Jungkook briefly turns away, biting his inner cheek in annoyance.
“You wanna play fucking games? Fine. Let’s fucking play games.” Jungkook practically growls.
You gulp, trying your best to keep a straight face. It wasn’t funny anymore. Instead, everything was beginning to feel hot and heavy. His cock stays inside you and you can feel him throbbing. You want him to move now.
Maybe you made the wrong move.
But it’s too late.
Jungkook’s mind has been made up and his pride can’t take any more shit you’ve given him all night. Sometimes, you forget how much of a man he is. You’ve only pushed boundaries as friends as a joke… And you barely remember what it was like sleeping with him a month ago… Was he always like this?
You feel sick to your stomach when you realize; you like it.
The rest of the night continues with Jungkook’s nasty mouth all over your body. It’s like every crevasse was for him to discover and claim as his. He took his time, pumping himself inside you. He took his time even more when he kissed you.
It was so slow and wet, but with every thrust and kiss—oh, were you fucked out of your mind.
His hands were all over you. It wasn’t exactly mind-blowing sex but it wasn’t too far from it either. Everything he did just felt so right and that surprised you. Contrary to popular belief; Jungkook was no fuckboy. He simply knew how to fuck.
God bless that fact.
He has always been that silly goofy friend in your circle of people. He has always been kind and a little flirty… But he was also really self-aware and brought a lot of meaning into every friendship. Perhaps, that’s why you ended up turning the other cheek and dating guys opposite of him.
If you were to be with Jungkook, it would be too real.
It would be too good and that’s what scared you…
Ah, shit.
How could you ever get over something this good?

Can you do a one shot where male reader feels like hc and xl don’t really need him and starts distancing himself from them. He thinks they are perfect for each other and that he is a nuisance ruining the relationship between them. He takes comfort to a friend who has liked the male reader for a really long time. ____________________________________
Some people may say being in the presence of the two strongest and revered people creates a lot of pressure. It's never been a problem for you. You've always enjoyed being in the presence of your two lovers. Xie Lian, a powerful and elegant martial god. While His Cheng is a powerful and suave ghost.
You love them very much.
But you lied, it is kind of pressuring. There's nothing wrong with your lovers of course! It's just that they're so strong and popular on their own. You aren't a very powerful god and you aren't a very powerful ghost. People don't know you. Most times your name is "That's the crown prince's lover, or that's crimson rain's lover"
You could live with this, it's not like you had a desire to be seen by the world. People just tend to forget about you. A lot of people don't like you exist so most of the time they accidentally exclude you from your own relationship. It just seems like an impossible place to reach. What could you do to seem important as well?
Xie Lian and Hua Cheng say you do plenty of important things by loving and taking care of them but it doesn't feel like that. You don't really do anything for them either. Neither of them needs protecting. They can protect themselves and each other just fine, and they go out of their way to protect you too.
Xie Lian is kind and keeps you and Hua Cheng calm. Assuring the both of you, and making sure everyone feels loved. The level headed of the three of you. Hua Cheng is very protective, and goes out his way to do things out of devotion or love. You can't do anything to compete.
Your relationship doesn't go as deep with them either. Hua Cheng and Xie Lian are just so wrapped up in each other it doesn't seem like there's room for three. They're already perfect by themselves and it doesn't look like they need you at all. You don't have a clue on why they even love you.
You've tried to make yourself more outgoing in the relationship? Trying to help them on missions or, help them with daily activities. You've tried taking over household chores like cleaning or cooking and yet it seems fruitless.
They always tell you that it isn't necessary. Someone else will take care of it. Hua Cheng has other people clean the manor, and Xie Lian would gladly cook by himself. They obviously don't need your help in missions, you'd probably just get in the way more than help.
You don't have a very outgoing presence in bed either. Very often Hua Cheng and Xie Lian do everything for you. Sometimes you try to give them pleasure instead. It doesn't matter if it's something little or big, your lovers shake their heads and say that it's a silly thought. You don't need to do anything they'll do it for you. Your lovers give you pleasure, they give each other pleasure. You want to give them pleasure too though.
These thoughts have been at the back of your mind for a while. That Xie Lian and Hua Cheng don't need you. These thoughts make you a little more clingy, a little more desperate. They haven't changed how they act towards you though. You just don't want to feel useless.
🦊🪷
"A-Lian please, let me tag along. All three of us can go on the mission together. Like uh, like a date or something!" You follow Xie Lian around the kitchen, trying to persuade him into changing his mind. It isn't working, it never does.
"A-n, me and San Lang can do it. We won't be long, promise. Just stay here" Xie Lian smiles at you and kisses your head. But you don't want to take this for an answer. You want to help! With something. Anything! It feels awful to just sit around while your lovers do every little thing for you.
You huff softly, watching your lovers get ready without you. "A-Lang you don't agree do you? Please tell A-Lian to let me tag along. I'll make sure not to get in the way!" You try persuading your ghost lover instead, gripping onto his arm to make him look at you.
You already feel humiliated. Begging like a child to join your lovers in something even though you're a grown man. San Lang shakes his head, " Getting in the way isn't our concern baobei. Gege is right we'll take care of it and be back home soon." He kisses your cheek.
You're left in Paradise Manor alone while your lovers leave off somewhere. You should be happy, you feel selfish actually. Anyone would be happy that their lovers do everything for them. Anyone would be happy to be taken care of all the time for the rest of their lives. You just can't...
Soooo you decide instead of sitting at home why not just follow your lovers out! It's not like you would be harming anything, maybe they'd even be delighted to see you. It's a better idea than sitting here doing nothing.
That's exactly what you do, you follow your lovers. With quite a bit of distance and making sure to be careful. You eventually find them, of course not in a good situation. They're busy fighting off wrathful ghosts and you make sure to stay far back. You don't want them to get hurt or anything so you'll just wait over here until they're finished.
That doesn't go well either. One of the ghosts notices you. It strays from the fight without notice from Xie Lian or Hua Cheng. Instead it comes for you, it's not like you're weak! You yelp from the surprise attack from the ghost, but otherwise you easily slay it down. All you were left with was a few deep scratches on your face. Whoo, It nearly got your eye!
You're feeling pretty proud of yourself until a pair of hands are gripping your face, and you notice Hua Cheng looking over your wounds. Even though you have some deep scratches you're smiling anyways. You just killed a ghost! A wrathful one at that!
Before you can exclaim your celebrations Xie Lian is dabbing medicine on your wounds with a furrowed brow. "What are you doing here y/n! We told you to stay home!"
Your smile falls, as your lovers both frown at you. You don't understand you did great! It was only a wound, everyone gets wounds sometimes! "I-I wanted to help" the word mumble from your lips, and Xie Lian finishes dressing your wound.
"How did that fair for you? We were doing just fine without you y/n, but now you're hurt" Xie Lian exclaims, flushed by nervousness and frustration. He had only wanted to keep you safe. He didn't mean to say it like that. It was a slip of the tongue. He hadn't meant it in hostility but you take it as such anyways.
"You two do seem just fine without me" you purse your lips, and back up. You're just upset, obviously Xie Lian would never mean such a thing but right now you can't help but take it as such. You've been suffering with these thoughts for weeks!
You quickly use what powers you do have to make a quick pathway and teleport away. Running away? Classic move but it feels better than sitting in front of your lovers disappointed faces. You just need time to get your feelings together so you decide to visit a friend's place.
You and Mu Qing know each other pretty well and you're great friends! Even though Mu Qing won't admit that. He's actually loved you for a while but you love Xie Lian and Hua Cheng and Mu Qing would never break up your happiness. He's been working on moving on so of course you can still come over and complain to him.
This time you just lie in his arms for a while. You spent some time just getting your thoughts together and stop crying. Then you tell Mu Qing what happened. He calls Hua Cheng stupid and says Xie Lian is oblivious with an eye roll. Mu Qing is actually good at advice and comforting you.
On the other end your lovers are very upset with themselves. Hua Cheng wanted to immediately come find you but Xie Lian told him it was better to give you space. They know you inside and out and Xie Lian knows you need time to get your emotions in order.
After a few hours Hua Cheng decides time is up though and breaks into the heavens again. Just because. Does it count as breaking in if Xie Lian let him in? Nah. They know where you are, unfortunately. They know you're with Mu Qing. Hua Cheng doesn't like that one bit. He's very capable of jumping to the conclusion that Mu Qing is trying to manipulate you while you're vulnerable but Xie Lian assures him otherwise.
Xie Lian makes Hua Cheng wait outside of Mu Qing's palace. Things would only blow off the hinges if Hua Cheng and Mu Qing fought. Xie Lian goes in by himself. He eventually finds you, not like it was hard. He isn't too happy to find you in Mu Qing's arms. Happy and comfortable. He hasn't seen a smile like that on your face in a long time.
Xie Lian ignores the lingering prickles of jealousy and walks into Mu Qing's room without invitation or notice. "A-n t's getting late, let's go home? Please?" He's relieved when you take his hand. Honestly it's nerve-racking. He hadn't meant to say such a harsh thing and then you went to someone else who is obviously much more capable at making you happier than they are.
Xie Lian and you join up with Hua Cheng again. You spend most of the journey back staring at the ground. You're ashamed, you feel like you overreacted. You were being dumb. Maybe they're angry at you and yet all three of you still hold hands. And yet when you get back to Paradise Manor, you all get ready for bed. And yet Xie Lian helps you disrobe and Hua Cheng checks your wounds before you lie down. And yet all three of you end up in the same bed, entangled in each other's limbs. Just like every night.
You all talk about it, words mumbling quietly in the dark room. It's a long conversation of "I'm sorry" and "I love you". You want to talk about your feelings more. Xie Lian and Hua Cheng want to make sure you don't feel left out or they're being distinct. The night ends with kisses and cuddles.
So maybe nothing was really ever wrong, and it would all turn out just fine. Because they've always loved you and you always loved them. Something like this isn't a big enough obstacle to take you away from them.

𝘼/𝙉 I’m getting back into my danmei lmaoo. It’s nice to also post short pieces since I’ve been burnt out with long projects. So also I’m aware of the whole statute scene, but I didn’t go into depth because I’m not that far🥲. But I also appreciate all the likes I’ve gotten on my TGCF stuff! Also uh… This definitely also gave me vibes. Idek if the song works completely but it’s 🥵MINORS/AGELESS DNI! ⋆💔˚。⋆ ྀི꒱
Edited 01/24/24: I made a whoopsie on the timeline. I mistaken chapters and pages like a dummy 😅😅. Holy balls I’m sorry y’all🤣.
Never did you imagine catching the Huā Chéng’s attention nor having his good graces.
You are nothing but a simple god in the heavens. Nothing highly praised, but important enough to be recognized and worshiped.
Of course you kept your meetings a secret and you enjoyed every small moment you had with him, after all, he is a very busy man, one of the four calamities in the ghost realm. You understand the workload.
You love him though with all his perfect and imperfections.
But…
You noticed a change as of late, and it all started when crown prince Xiè Lián arrived in the heavens for the third time apparently.
You knew very little of him initially, but you gathered the opinions of others due to the nasty things that were spewed from one mouth to another.
Obviously this wouldn’t do, so you opted to help him with the case in Mount Yujun, and you weren’t alone. Two “junior” officials also join you as well, and though they’re incredibly amusing, they’re also a headache as usual.
Anyways. While on this mission Xiè Lián was anything but what was being said in the heavens by the other gods. He’s incredibly humble, kind, has strong morals, and is charitable. A perfect friend to have in your life.
You don’t pry into his history, and you can tell he’s appreciative of that.
Once the mission is over with you come to your own conclusion and don’t regret it. You planned to even come visit him and help him out at his shrine until that familiar presence has you frozen in place.
What is Huā Chéng doing here..?
You left before you could be detected, fleeing back to your little palace and drowning yourself in your duties while unwillingly being stuck in your thoughts as well.
As days go by you note that when your beloved finally comes to you, it’s after his highness returns from another mission…
Huā Chéng is overwhelmed with emotions, that much is obvious when he grabs you so tight, his body tense and shoulders trembling just faintly.
His turmoil distracts you from your unsteady heart and you offer to remedy his burdens by being the one to lovingly service him.
But he turns your offer down.
Instead he resorts to his usual, just putting you on your hands and knees and then making you ride him with your back facing him when he grows tired of doing the work.
You’ve… Never had too much of a problem with this, the positions always hitting you deeply in those special, toe curling spots, and honestly he fucks you dumb to the point you got no thoughts.
But this didn’t soothe your paranoia, and you weren’t sure how to bring it up to him.
So you resort to soothing yourself.
‘It’s just insecurity. I’m just blowing it out of proportion.. Huā Chéng loves me.’
It only works for so long.
After that night Huā Chéng became distant again and soon did the unthinkable.
He snatched Xiè Lián from his palace where he was made to be confined in, and made a nice little show about it in the communication array.
You were dazed and hurt, not sure what his plans were and why he’s so infatuated with Xiè Lián. You weren’t sure if he wanted to hurt him or…
Or…
Your chest is heavy, but you push through and go with Fēng Xìn and Mù Qíng to find the runaway duo.
In the end, you wished to have just stayed tucked away in your palace, distracting yourself with your work for a moment longer than seeing this .
There’s many.. Many statues of Xiè Lián, all depicting a specific moment in his and Huā Chéng’s lifetime, or just because Huā Chéng wants another beautiful image of the crown prince.
It’s sick and painful. Your body trembling and your mind sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss that’s your proven thoughts.
Some can say it’s romantic.. Other can say it’s creepy. Pick your poison. But you felt humiliated above all else. It makes you question whether your relationship was even real this entire time.
When Huā Chéng makes his sudden appearance, he doesn’t even look ashamed, his attention and concern solely on Xiè Lián.
When you finally managed to leave Ghost City, like usual, you locked yourself away and finally exploded, taking your anger out on some of your furniture before sobbing on the cold floor, nothing but the shadows on the wall to comfort you in your grief.
All along Huā Chéng has been devoted to and in love with Xiè Lián.
The times you’ve had sex you’re sure he’s imagined him in your place.
In the meantime you were just something to keep him occupied until he had his chance.
You felt used and foolish and you had a tidal wave of resentment for Huā Chéng at his callousness.
And unfortunately you couldn’t help but have a little resentment for Xiè Lián…
You only distanced yourself from him and his party of growing allies, ignoring the hurt in his eyes when you brush him off, and ignoring him when he came to your palace asking for you and checking on you.
Your bitterness was just too immense.
You assume that no one knows still about you and your one sided relationship with Huā Chéng, otherwise you’re sure your doors would’ve been blown open and you’d be dragged into court for an interrogation by now.
Huā Chéng has yet to face you, and it hurts, but you’re not surprised either. You’re sure you’re not going to get an apology either.
Love truly can be a curse…
But for now you’ll let yourself mourn and stew in your anger. You’ll throw a small pity party for yourself and be a little destructive.
“Hi…! I know it’s late and this is completely random, but is that offer still available…?”
“Of course, come right on in~.”
You only hope that Péi Míng doesn’t pry too much…

A sharp knock on your door wakes you from the deepest sleep of your life. Baela has a way of knocking, but not knocking. By the second rap of her knuckles, she’s already opening the door and entering the room, clad in a baby blue tennis skirt and a matching top.
Her silver curls are held away from her face in a high ponytail as she sits on the edge of your bed.
“Rise and shine, sleeping beauty,” she tells you as you groan, pressing your face back into the softness of your pillow.
“This is the comfiest bed….I’ve ever slept in….in my whole life,” you tell her, your voice muffled by the pillow.
“That’s because you’ve been sleeping on a twin xl for the past five months,” she says snickering, poking your sides.
You try to roll away from her, burrowing deeper into the soft plush comforter.
“Whaaaa,” you moan, pushing her hands away.
“Come on, we have things to do,” she tells you.
With a groan, you roll over to face her.
“Where are we going?” you ask, sitting up and stretching your arms above your head.
“Kingsroad Country Club,” she tells you, “We’ll grab breakfast there with Rhae.”
She stands up moving to your closet.
“Bring a bathing suit,” she tells you, “The pool is amazing, we can see if anyone interested has come home for the summer.”
You raise an eyebrow at her as she paws through your clothes. You’d only just started to unpack the previous night, before giving in to the temptation of sleep. You couldn’t stop thinking about Baela’s stupid uncle either, which only made completing your task of unpacking more frustrating.
“Interesting?” you ask and she wiggles her eyebrows suggestively.
“A summer fling never hurt anyone,” Baela teases.
“Okay, let’s do it,” you agree, and she shuts your closet door.
“Meet me downstairs!” she calls, closing the door behind her.
You quickly get dressed in a simple sundress and after a quick trip across the bay in Baela’s skiff, you dock outside of the Kingsroad Country Club.
You follow Baela’s lead after you make sure Moondancer is safely roped so she won’t drift back into Blackwater Bay. The country club is just as extravagant as everything else appears to be in King’s Landing. A woman smiles at you as you pass in front of the signup booth for the regatta. Baela leads you past the massive pool and toward the balcony as you arrive; it’s filled with white and blue umbrellas on glass tables, surrounded by white linen chairs.
The balcony overlooks several tennis courts, with several people engaged in singles and doubles matches. Further out you spot a golf course, acres of green grass as far as you can see.
“Breakfast here is bomb,” Baela tells you, “Seriously, the best Eggs Benedict I’ve ever had.”
As you sit for breakfast examining the menu, Baela continues to talk about all the fun things she has planned for this summer, while putting in an order of mimosas for the table. Rhaena joins a few moments later, in a heated conversation with Helaena.
“There’s no rush, right?” Helaena says to Rhaena as they sit.
“It’s a month away, of course, there’s a rush!” Rhaena says, taking a sip of the water provided.
“For what?” Baela asks.
“The auction? The gala?” Rhaena answers, “Please tell me you told Y/N about the gala.”
Baela glances at you sideways and Rhaena rolls her eyes.
“Okay perfect, so Hel and Y/N need outfits,” Rhaena sighs, “The club hosts a gala and an auction each year for the regatta, it's really fun! Families donate artifacts, art, stuff like that and spend a shit ton of money.”
A waiter stops by, delivering mimosas and taking your breakfast orders.
“It was fun maybe when we were like twelve,” Baela tells her, “It’s a fashion show. A night for our family to pretend they’re perfect.”
“You’re just mad Dad wants us to go together,” Rhaena scolds, frowning.
Baela clenches her jaw, narrowing her eyes at her twin.
“Exactly,” she answers, to Rhaena’s surprise, “Alicent doesn’t make her kids go, why should I be forced?”
“Oh my Mom forces us alright,” Helaena says smiling, “She was beyond pissed when Aegon and I skipped last year, I thought her head was going to explode. I’m going.”
“Why though?” Baela asks, groaning dramatically and slumping in her seat, “It’s medieval.”
“Because I want to wear a dress and look pretty,” Helaena says grinning, “Come on Bae, you’ll look like such a pretty princess.”
Helaena stretches her hand, poking Baela’s cheek causing you to chuckle. Helaena keeps sing-songing ‘pretty princess’ until Baela swats her hand away.
“Remember when we all wore those matching dresses? Talk about medieval,” Helaena snorted.
Rhaena spares a laugh then, biting her lip at the memory.
“Please, Bae?” she asks, “Plus, you have to let Y/N experience it, it’s a magical night.”
Baela glances at you and you shrug nonchalantly.
“I polish up real nice,” you tell her.
“Don’t quote Taylor Swift to me,” she groans, but a smile appears on her lips, “Okay fine.”
Rhaena squeals and claps her hands together.
“So…no to the matching dresses or….?” Helaena asks, answered by a unanimous chorus of no.
A whistle startles you from your conversation as Aegon jogs over to your table, sunglasses dangling off his nose, violet eyes peering over the edge. He arrives just as the waiter returns with your food, distributing your plates.
“Ladies,” he muses, placing his hands on the back of Helaena’s chair and leaning forward.
“Go away,” Baela tells him, causing him to pout, “You’re ruining my meal.”
“I come bearing gifts,” he says, pulling a joint from where it was hidden in his hair.
He holds it out between his fingers before Helaena reaches up, snatching it from him and placing it behind her own ear.
“Thanks,” she tells him, and he hums.
“Happy to be of service,” he says, snatching a triangle of toast from her plate.
“Fucking vulture!” she hisses, swatting him as he hurries away.
“Where’s he off to?” Rhaena muses.
“Probably skulking around the pool looking for an unsuspecting girl with low self-esteem,” Helaena says, rolling her eyes.
Your eyes follow Aegon who does not head toward the pool but instead down the steps toward the tennis courts. As you see who’s waiting for him you can’t help but roll your eyes. Aemond twirls a racket in his hand, clad in three-quarter-length green tennis shorts accentuating the muscles of his thighs.
He wears a simple white t-shirt molded to his torso. You assume he’s already played a set, as a man with dark hair leaves the court, patting Aegon on the shoulder as he takes his place. Aemond takes a moment to wipe the sweat from his brow, revealing the v-line that disappears down his shorts. He runs a hand through his silver hair; it's kept shorter on the sides, and a bit longer on the top accentuating his sharp features.
Aegon says something to his brother, and Aemond meets your gaze. You scowl before looking away, not missing the satisfied smirk that appears on Aemond’s face at your reaction. Your cheeks flush and you take a sip of your mimosa trying to hide your annoyance.
“What is his problem?” you mumble, as Baela sips her mimosa.
“Who?” Rhaena asks, following your gaze, “Oh-”
“You got off on the wrong foot, that’s all,” Helaena tells you, “But he’ll warm up. Aemond takes a while to defrost.”
“A while? Try years,” Baela says chuckling, “Seriously you’re good, Y/N. Don’t even worry about it.”
You chew on your lower lip, anxiety swirling in your stomach.
“I feel like I said something wrong last night,” you tell them, “I pissed him off somehow.”
The cousins exchange glances before Rhaena sighs, accepting that she’ll be the person to spill the dirty details. You raise your eyebrows at her, expectantly.
“So your sailor comment, about Luke?” Rhaena says, jogging your memory.
You nod, wordlessly encouraging her to continue.
“Luke and Aemond have history,” she begins, somewhat beating around the bush, “It’s kind of complicated-”
“It’s not,” Baela interrupts, “Look, our family is a soap opera, right? Well for the longest time, they tried to make us all get along, force us to do like ‘family bonding activities’ and it came back to bite them in the ass.”
Tension hangs in the air as she speaks, and you sense they haven’t told you an essential piece of information.
“I’m not following,” you tell them.
The twins glance at Helaena, who sighs while running a hand through her hair.
“There was an accident. A boating accident, Luke didn’t do what he was supposed to, and…” she trails off, “Aemond lost his eye because of it.”
“Holy shit,” you breathe, your heart falling into your stomach.
“It wasn’t his fault, I mean we were all kids, and my dad, he never thought things through, ever,” Helaena says sighing, “We were just kids. If it's anyone’s fault it was his.”
Panic bubbles in your throat, heat rising to your face as you glance back at the tennis court. You hear the smack of the tennis ball against his racket as Aemond swings, making Aegon sprint to the opposite side to try and catch the ball.
“I had no idea, fuck,” you begin, “Shit, I should say something.”
Helaena shakes her head.
“Don’t worry about it,” she tells you, “I mean, you can try, but Aemond’s pretty closed off.”
“Aemond’s been a dick since we were kids,” Baela tells you.
But you feel like you have to. Aemond had been a dick to you, but you hadn’t meant to poke at a wound. You’d say something.
Daeron and Luke run by quickly, both clad in swim trunks, speaking rapidly about something while hunched around Daeron’s iPhone. Rhaena frowns, taking a sip from her mimosa as they make a beeline toward the regatta sign-up booth.
“Daeron!” Helaena calls, waving them over.
The boys stop, not looking up, but head toward the table.
“What’re you doing?” Helaena asks, rising from her seat and reaching for her brother’s phone.
“Give it Hel!” Daeron says, but Helaena is quicker, with years of practice being surrounded by brothers.
She glances at the screen, eyebrows furrowing together before she rolls her violet eyes.
“Not this again,” she comments as Daeron snatches the phone, his ears turning red.
“We need it!”
“You say that every year!” Helaena teases.
“Need what?” you ask.
“Every year, they go on a treasure hunt, for Aegon the Conqueror's lost ruby crown,” Helaena tells you.
“Who’s Aegon the Conqueror?” you ask.
“Some dickhead who thought he was discovering King’s Landing but instead ruined the lives of the indigenous people who were here before him,” Baela tells you.
“He had a cool crown though,” Luke comments, “And if we find it, it’s good luck for the regatta.”
“You don’t need luck,” Rhaena tells him, “You’ve spent nearly all your free time on Arrax, you have this in the bag.”
Luke gives her a pained expression, his cheeks turning pink at her praise.
“I guess so,” he tells her.
Baela blows a raspberry, ruffling Luke’s hair. He makes a noise of protest, quickly trying to fix the mess she’s made.
“You know Arrax like the back of your hand,” she confirms, “You got this.”
“They’re right, dude,” Daeron comments, “It’s all good.”
“Says the person who doesn’t have to do it,” Luke says.
Daeron shrugs.
“Blame my mom. I don’t get why I have to visit Uncle Ormund,” Daeron groans, “Oldtown is so fucking boring.”
“Why doesn’t she make Aemond go?” Luke asks.
“Because he’s mom’s favorite,” Daeron answers immediately, earning a slap on the back of the head from Helaena, “OW!”
“Mom doesn’t have favorites,” Helaena insists as Daeron punches her in the arm.
He flinches as Helaena smacks him again, yelling and scrambling away from her. Luke laughs at the sight and you can’t help but giggle as well. Helaena seems so dreamy, with her head in the clouds, but she’s tough having grown up among three brothers.
Rhaena grabs Helaena’s glass, moving it out of the way as Daeron twists her arm, causing her to bump into the table.
“You little shit!” she yelps, stomping on his foot.
Daeron releases her with a pained gasp, hopping out of reach. Luke tugs his shoulder, directing him toward the sign-up booth.
“Assholes,” Helaena mutters, falling back into her seat.
You can’t help but giggle at their antics. You watch as they make it to the sign-ups, crouching over the sheet to write their names. You smile at the boys. If there is still tension between the sides of the family, at least Luke and Daeron seem to get along. And you’re really liking Helaena.
“You provoked him,” Rhaena teases and Helaena’s mouth drops open, “Kidding!”
Helaena puts on her sunglasses before taking a bite of her eggs.
“What are your plans for the day?” she asks, through a mouthful.
Baela makes a face before answering.
“I’m thinking we will keep today pretty chill. Drinks by the pool, maybe visit the spa. Oh! And we have to rent you a racket,” Baela says smiling.
“For what?” you ask.
“Tennis, dummy!” Baela says, rolling her eyes, “Rich kid special, I’m going to teach you the sport we were all forced to.”
“Five summers of tennis camp,” Rhaena says grimacing, “Another family bonding experience where we all nearly murdered each other.”
“This family is strangely fucking competitive,” Helaena agrees, nodding.
You laugh and continue eating your breakfast. Helaena and Rhaena promise to join you later on but disappear as you make your way to the pool.
“Baela!” the woman at the regatta sign-up calls as you and Baela walk past.
Baela stops, smiling begrudgingly at the woman. Though she’s wearing a sun hat, the bridge of her nose is red from the sun. She smiles as you and Baela approach.
“Hey Mrs. Redwyne,” Baela says politely.
“I was curious if you’re planning on entering this year?” Mrs. Redwyne asks, motioning to the sign-up sheet.
“Oh no, not this year,” Baela says, shaking her head, “I think my dad might, but I’m just trying to have a relaxing summer.”
“I see,” Mrs. Redyne says, eyes flickering to someone else who approaches.
“Are you signing up?” Luke says, panting as though he booked it back over to the booth.
“Chill,” Baela tells him, “No I’m just looking.”
It seems Mrs. Redwyne lost interest after Baela told her she wasn’t competing. Baela nudges your arm, nodding towards the pool, just as a group of guys joins you at the booth.
“Hey Bae,” a curly-haired boy says, leaning down to the sign-ups.
He wets his lips, signing his name in a quick flourish.
“Didn’t realize you were home,” he says, handing the pen back to Mrs. Redwyne.
He stands straight and smiles, flashing rows of pearly white teeth.
“Who’s your friend?” the curly-haired boy asks, peering around Baela to look at you.
You meet his warm, brown eyes, blushing at his stare. Whoever he is, he’s handsome.
“My roommate, best friend,” Baela says, introducing you, “She’s staying for the summer.”
“Nice to meet you,” he says, shaking your hand and smiling, “I’m Will.”
“Y/N,” you tell him, returning his smile.
He smiles like a politician trying to win votes; it’s sweet, disarming. It makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up, and your stomach does flip-flops. Not a totally unpleasant feeling.
“You gonna compete?” he asks, nodding to the sign-ups.
“Me? No, I don’t really sail. I’ll be cheering Luke from the sidelines,” you tell him.
“Damn, already chosen a side, I respect that,” he says, crossing his arms, “Though I bet I can change your mind.”
“How so?” you ask, surprised at your flirtatious tone.
It’s easy, here in King’s Landing. You don’t really know anyone, you’ve got nothing to lose.
“Reigning champs, last three years,” he not so subtly brags, “The Golden Rose is undefeated.”
“Impressive,” you tell him, nodding in appreciation.
“Hardly,” a familiar voice drolls from behind you.
Aemond walks by, Aegon by his side. They’d finished their set, both sweaty and glistening in the morning sun. A shame they’re dicks. They’re undoubtfully hot as fuck. It seems the worst guys always are. Aemond’s eye flickers between you and Will, lip curling upwards in a sneer.
“Are you finally competing?” Will asked, eyes widening, “If I remember correctly, you’re not that fond of sailing.”
Aemond shrugs, and Will chuckles nervously.
“Dude, do you even have a boat?” he asks, causing his friends to chuckle in response.
“We’ve got Sunfyre,” Aegon tells him, “Beautiful, my girl is.”
“Bro,” Will says, placing a hand over his heart, “You’d compete against me?”
“We’re not competing,” Aemond says before Aegon can answer, “Though if we were, it wouldn’t be much of a challenge.”
Aemond’s gaze travels to Luke when he says the last part. Luke shies away from his uncle’s gaze, the tips of his ears reddening. You bite your tongue, turning back to Will.
“I’d like to see your boat,” you tell him, desperate to release some of the tension.
Will smiles, brown eyes returning to yours.
“It’s a date,” he tells you, “Can I get your number?”
You nod and he hands you his phone. You quickly plug in the digits.
“Just so you know, my loyalties still lie with Luke,” you tell him cheekily.
Will laughs at that.
“We’ll see,” he says, taking his phone, “Nice meeting you, Y/N.”
“Likewise,” you tell him.
Will and his friends leave toward the golf course, several of them clasping him on the back. You can’t help but blush. A little summer fling could go a long way. And he is cute.
Aegon shakes his head, moving towards the bar, but Aemond stays put. Baela juts out her lower lip, humming appreciatively.
“Y’know, for once I think Aegon has the right idea,” she muses, “I’ll grab drinks and meet you by the pool?”
“Sounds good,” you tell her, and she’s off.
You figure now is as good a time as any to apologize for the previous night. You steady yourself, pulling back your shoulders, but Aemond speaks first.
“Will Tyrell,” he says, shaking his head, “Figures.”
You arch an eyebrow at him.
“The fuck does that mean?” you ask, crossing your arms.
Aemond smirks.
“Figures you’d be into pretty boys,” he says nonchalantly, shrugging his shoulders.
“If that were true I’d be into you,” you snap, eyes widening realizing what you’ve said.
Aemond raises his brows, his smirk only growing.
“Which I’m not,” you anxiously clarify.
His seeing eye narrows and suddenly he’s looking at you differently, his head tilting to the side slightly as he looks you up and down. You turn your head, looking towards the bar. Baela’s still there, leaning forward and chatting with the bartender as he starts the blender.
“Course,” Aemond says, beginning to walk away.
You bite your lip. Fucking always putting your foot in your mouth.
“Wait!” you call and he turns, “I just…about last night.”
Aemond purses his lips, holding a hand up to stop you.
“Don’t,” he says, beginning to turn away.
“But-”
“Seriously,” he warns and continues walking before disappearing into the clubhouse.
But you’re determined, and you follow him inside despite your feet wanting to take you in the opposite direction. You walk into a ballroom, and see Aemond across the room grabbing a water bottle from a fully stocked table.
You head towards him but are stopped by a familiar face.
“Hi!” Floris says smiling, ear to ear, “Are you signing anything up for the auction?”
Your breath leaves your lungs seeing her and you struggle to find your words.
“Um…I…no,” you tell her, shaking your head.
Floris looks at you questioningly.
“Okay, well if you change your mind, we’re here to register items daily from 11-3,” she says, motioning to a table beside her.
“Thanks,” you tell her, moving toward Aemond.
“Hey!” you call, catching his attention.
Aemond looks at you, releasing a deep, exasperated sigh.
This motherfucker.
“Look, I’m sorry if I said something to offend you,” you begin, “Not my intention, and you don’t have to worry about ever interacting with me again.”
“Sounds far-fetched,” he comments, sipping his water.
“What?” you ask incredulously.
This man is giving you a headache.
“You’re staying with my family, we’re bound to run into each other,” he tells you, violet eyes aglow as if he’s enjoying the argument.
“Well I’ll do my best to stay out of your way,” you tell him, “You should do the same.”
“Should I?” he ponders, “You’re awfully demanding.”
You squint at him, jaw slacking in shock. Aemond’s lip curls into a smirk. You breathe in, ready to retaliate, but release a breathy laugh instead.
“You know what? Okay,” you tell him, pressing your lips together in a tight line.
You turn away from him, retreating the way you came. Floris watches you depart, her eyes flickering from Aemond to you, a sour expression on her pretty face. You smile politely at her as you pass, which she does not return.
You frown. Even trying to be nice comes back to bite you. Sheesh. You hear Baela call your name as you return to the outside deck and she holds two glasses filled with a pink slush and decorated with little umbrellas. You sigh, before putting on your sunglasses and making your way over to her.
After you head back to Driftmark for an afternoon nap, you plan to grab dinner at Dragonstone, but the weather does not cooperate (much to Baela’s delight).
“Oh no,” she dramatically pouts, watching the rain splash against the glass of her window.
Rhaenys frowns at her, and Baela smiles innocently.
“Call your father,” she tells Baela, “It’s not safe to be out on the water in this weather.”
“Tell them that,” you say, nodding to the lights you see in the bay.
Someone thinks it’s a good idea to be sailing. You can’t really see who it is, can’t make out anything except one larger sailboat, barely rocked by the choppy surf, while a smaller counterpart is being jolted around by the waves.
“Unwise to be out in this weather,” Rhaenyrs murmurs, as lightning cracks through the sky, illuminating the bay.
“That kind of looks like…” Baela’s sentence trails off, softly.
Baela squints and then shrugs, giving up on trying to identify the boats. The loud sounds of thunder shake the very foundations of High Tide, the splatter of rain lulling you into a dreamless sleep later that night.
The destroyed remains of Luke Velaryon’s ship would not be discovered until early the following morning.
