I didn't follow this survival show at all, but I heard the final group would have Lee Haein as creative director, and that was enough to make me curious about their debut. Turns out, I actually love it! They went for a sound that's pretty unusual among the new gen boy groups, and the whole album has such a cohesive sound and identity. I'll be keeping an eye on them, for sure!

Book recs?

Hey capri community! I would love to hear some book recs from you! Setting: prefer fantasy/otherworldly/period over the real current world.

Gender doesn't really matter, there can be romance and spice (slowburn is always fun). Can have darker topics if done well.

Most importantly I really want to feel what the characters experience. Can be love/deep connection, fear/panic or whatever emotion but I want to gasp or laugh when reading… It's really hard to describe.

Pacat gave all that to me, but it's hard to find in other books so far. (Freya's A Marvellous Light was one of the ones that managed to do it, the second book less so tho, haven't read the third yet.)

He's such a gentleman.

I can see him as someone who's really sweet and caring towards his partner.

The type that would definitely bring flowers to your first date. Then, buys different gifts that you would like once he's gotten to know you better.

He has a list of the things you're interested in based on your conversations with him—whether it'd be games, books, shows, etc. He memorizes them so he can give gifts later.

If it's not obvious enough, his love languages are gift giving and quality time.

No matter how busy he is, or how he loves to be couped up in his lab, he will make time for you.

You need him to pick you up? He's on his way. You need necessary items? He's checking out. Need cuddles and attention? Yes please, consider it done.

He wouldn't mind you coming to his workplace, he'll let you stay in the lab while he does his research.

The one time you accidentally knocked his crucible off the table your heart dropped.

He saw your scared expression—your eyes so shiny with your tears begging to stain your cheeks—but he never had the intention to yell at you like you were a kid to begin with. He knows better that it was all an accident.

He approached you and there you started rambling about how it happened and apologized repeatedly until he picked up both your hands and asked, "Are you hurt?" with the most gentle voice you've heard and a worried look. You melted!

He loves to secretly and not-so secretly take pictures of you. He has a camera specifically for you only.

He loves to make plans ahead—for tomorrow, next weekend, next month, heck, even next year and years ahead. He even slipped out his plans of getting married to you and having kids and such. Boy, you never thought it was possible to see how red he can be.

He's always so calm and keeps a cool head. Even when you're yapping about your day and such, he'll attentively listen to you. However, his habit of watching you talk always gets to you and annoyingly, he doesn't get it. His face would look so soft, his gaze is gentle and he always puts a smile.

"Don't look at me with those eyes!" "What eyes?" Definitely happened.

He just can't help it. The way you get excited, or have that angry pout, it was all too adorable for him. He's just so in love with you.

If you're the one to tease him, expect lots of stutters and blinking eyes. He can hide his blush all he wants but the sudden silence and avoiding eye contact are obvious hints he's flustered.

When you patted Xiang-LEE's head when you are fully aware that Xiangli Yao was taking control, he went speechless and stumbled with his words.

But when you patted his actual head, he malfunctioned. He could not maintain eye contact with you at all after that.

Another thing he loves is when you play with his soft hair, but he gets way too shy the whole time no matter how hard he tries to stay calm. If he feels comfortable enough to succumb to the embarrassment, he buries his head into the crook of your neck to hide his blushing face.

If you tease him too much, he might actually burst his bubble.

Anxiety knocks on the door of your chest. One, two, three.

You're not sure what to expect, really. It's only a simple meeting with the Principal Investigator of Huaxu Academy. After hearing all of his memorable achievements, as well as his kind-hearted nature, your body somehow shook.

Who was he? Why did your body react like that when you first heard his name? Did you know him?

As far as you know (or what the Magistrate, or the Counselor, or even your friends in Jinzhou), you've never even met before. Granted, if you were long awake before your time now, then you've never ever crossed paths.

When you ponder though, a white line seeps into your mind. Your body, albeit shaking, remembers something you don't. It's an endless cycle of wanting to find out the reason, an itch you couldn't wait to scratch.

So why were you turning away from the door that leads you to the man you were waiting to meet?

“If you're not feeling well, we can reschedule.” Baizhi, after a long sigh, notices your plight, “Chief Xiangli Yao wouldn't mind.”

“N-no, I'm fine.” You breathe deeply, “I'm just...nervous.”

“Is this because of your body's reaction?” Baizhi asks.

��...yes,” you meekly admit, “I'm afraid I might not know what happens after we'd meet.”

“It's a normal response to stress. You either fight or flee from it. But if you tend not to face it, then how will you know the answer?”

You turn to look at Baizhi with flecks of tears in your eyes. She's right; if it's something that you've long wanted to do, yet still push it away, how will you understand what it is?

With one deep breath, you turn on your heel and push the door with wobbly hands. The sudden light blinds your eyes momentarily, before a series of tv screens face you.

A somehow medium-sized room, littered with tv screens and controllers. Dyed in the shade of blue, they gave you a calming feeling. But the target of today's agenda finally catches your eye.

A tall, blonde-haired man draped in blue, over with a white coat. You don't miss a grey-colored mechanical arm. His back faces you, but as soon as the door opens, you catch the sight of cerulean irises.

You hold your breath.

“Chief, we're here,” Baizhi announces, “I brought the rover as promised.”

And your heartbeat quickens.

Flashes of unnamed memories play in front of your eyes as the man approaches you. Even whispers of some distant memory begin to sing in your ear. When the principal investigator is in front of you and holds out his hand, the answer became clear as day.

“Hello, rover,” The pretty man greets, “It's finally nice to meet you. I've heard a lot of your feats.”

“...and I've heard a lot from you, too.” You manage to speak.

You notice the way your heart seems to leap out of your chest. Squeezing in the guise of yearning and anticipation, you could rip it out and present it to him if you could. Slowly reaching out until your hands reach, you feel tingly sensations from his touch alone.

“I am Xiangli Yao,” He said, warm cerulean eyes twinkling, “the Principal Investigator of Huaxu Academy.”

“...commanding for duty...”

“Xiang...lee...Xiangli,” You mutter, aware of the rush of ghost memories, “You can call me [Y/N].”

“...commandant...”

The sparkle in his eyes only intensifies. “[Y/N]. Have we...met before?”

“...we are the Gray Raven.”

“...No,” you softly smile, “But I would love to get to know you better.”

“Lee, welcome back.”

A sweet smile graces his lips. “As do I, then, [Y/N].”

“I'd love you in every universe,” the familiar voice whispers in your ear, flashes of the same cerulean eyes glancing at you, “as I long promised, Commandant.”

Needle-free COVID-19 intranasal vaccine provides broad immunity, study finds - Published Agu 27, 2024

A next-generation COVID-19 mucosal vaccine is set to be a gamechanger not only when delivering the vaccine itself, but also for people who are needle-phobic.

New Griffith University research, "A single-dose intranasal live-attenuated codon deoptimized vaccine provides broad protection against SARS-CoV-2 and its variants" published in Nature Communications, has been testing the efficacy of delivering a COVID-19 vaccine via the nasal passages.

Professor Suresh Mahalingam from Griffith's Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics has been working on this research for the past four years.

"This is a live attenuated intranasal vaccine, called CDO-7N-1, designed to be administered intranasally, thereby inducing potential mucosal immunity as well as systemic immunity with just a single dose," Professor Mahalingam said.

"The vaccine induces strong memory responses in the nasal mucosa, offering long-term protection for up to a year or more.

"It's been designed to be administered as a single dose, ideally as a booster vaccine, as a safe alternative to needles with no adverse reactions in the short or long term."

Live-attenuated vaccines offer several significant advantages over other vaccine approaches.

They induce potent and long-lived humoral and cellular immunity, often with just a single dose.

Live-attenuated vaccines comprise the entire virus, thereby providing broad immunity, in contrast to a single antigen which is used in many other vaccine platforms.

Lead author Dr. Xiang Liu said the vaccine provides cross-protection against all variants of concern, and has neutralizing capacity against SARS-CoV-1.

"The vaccine offers potent protection against transmission, prevents reinfection and the spread of the virus, while also reducing the generation of new variants," Dr. Liu said.

"Unlike the mRNA vaccine which targets only the spike protein, CDO-7N-1 induces immunity to all major SARS-CoV-2 proteins and is highly effective against all major variants to date.

"Importantly, the vaccine remains stable at 4°C for seven months, making it ideal for low- and middle-income countries."

The vaccine has been licensed to Indian Immunologicals Ltd, a major vaccine manufacturer.

Dr. K. Anand Kumar, co-author of the publication and Managing Director of Indian Immunologicals Ltd. Said, "We are a leading 'One Health' company that has developed and launched several vaccines for human and animal use in India and are currently exporting to 62 countries."

"We have completed all the necessary studies of this novel COVID-19 vaccine which offers tremendous advantages over other vaccines.

"We now look forward to taking the vaccine candidate to clinical trials."

Professor Lee Smith, Acting Director of the Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics, said he was delighted with the research findings.

"These results towards developing a next-generation COVID-19 vaccine are truly exciting," Professor Smith said.

"Our researchers are dedicated to providing innovative and, crucially, more accessible solutions to combat this high-impact disease."
