Throwing fuel on your fire:

Vice met Kei in feudal Japan when he was a starving former emperor, and the next time Kei appears linearly, Vice and he are tempting Ultimo into killing Lady Gekko/Rune. Meaning between that gap of time, Vice got Kei back to health again by finding him food.

When K is injured in the 21st century, Vice goes out to get him food and feels really off in doing so. (I propose because unlike the 12th century, K was injured after becoming Vice's master, not before they met. Vice did not protect K, who does everything Vice said to do. It is Vice's fault that K was injured. Jun does not care about his self-preservation at all, so Vice will never have to worry about feeling guilty in hurting him.)

Throughout the story, I imagine the 12th century as well, Kei has been cooking for Vice, so Vice copying the gesture in turn-- one of the first gestures as master-douji likely being Vice needing to feed Kei to keep him alive-- feels like the small repeated gesture that caused care between each other to grow.

At first, - at least this is what Vice told himself - it was about necessity. Vice had to feed K in the 12th century because otherwise, he’d have a master who was too weak to function. But, now, he still finds himself falling back into that same cycle in the 21st century. The moment K is injured, his first instinct is, I have to go get him food. And you’re so right—this time, it feels wrong. Before, K being a dumbass starvin' & injured former-emperor wasn't his problem. But this time? K is his master. K got hurt under his watch. And for once, Vice has to sit with that awful, foreign feeling of responsibility.

And so - his first instinct is to feed him. Just like back then, when he first met K. Also, imagining 12th-century K cooking for Vice once he's better?? Just this pathetic little ex-emperor making whatever scraps he can find while Vice sits there eating it like, tch, this is terrible—but he never actually stops him from doing it. K was prob just repaying Vice back for getting him back to health, yeah whatever, let that ugly freak do what he wants.

But Vice in the present is thinking about this, and realizes that no matter how much he mocks K or treats him like an idiot throughout the centuries, he has never let him starve. And K has never let him go without food, either. And that realization just makes Vice so mad. Because why does it matter? They never choose to care about each other, but they keep ending up in this same position anyway. Why does something so stupid and human—something as basic as food—feel like something more??

Most of the time he is on his knees when you are with him, even when you try to tell him to sit next to you, he denies your request and kneels down on you anyways. It's just instinct by now to bow down whenever you are near him, even when it is considered embarrassing to the other bots, but they are just jealous at how devoted he is to you.

The first time you pet his helm was merely for you to tell him that he does not have to bow down or kneel to you, especially since you are no one and he is THE Tarn of the Decepticon Justice Division. But that simple touch made him realize how much he enjoys you touching him. It made him, the tainted devotee, the greatest sinner, Cybertron's most feared feel like he's been cleansed from everything wrong that he has done since he was first created. It made him crave your validation, made him feel reborn, untainted and pure.

Ever since then he's been kneeling and/or bowing his helm to see if you would caress him in that way again. You notice that when you don't pet him, his frame seems to deflate and his optics, though hidden, would change in a way that reminds you of a sad puppy. When you do though, a deep engine rumble could be heard from him as he nuzzles close to your touch.

And bold of you to think that it's only during his free time he would do such a thing, no, even when he is busy and working he will come running to you as soon as you call his designation. Damus, Glitch, Tarn — whichever one you use doesn't matter, once his designation falls from your lips he is now yours, regardless of the matter at hand.
