Confessions of a Recovering Genrephobe. 3/9/24
Hey Whores;
This was an incredible differcult week. Two days of only having two people in the kitchen. A absolutely monsterous friday night with 45 minute ticket times and just an absolute slog in general. are dishwasher is sick and its just been a bitch and half. I really need to fucking leave this job before it gets worse.
I'm spending my day off watching anime, (Komi Can't Communicate), instead of like doing my laundry.
You Forgot it in People (2002) - Broken Social Scene
Genre: Indie Rock, Pop
Length: 56:11 (13 Tracks)
You Forgot It in People is the commercial breakthrough of indie rock collective Broken Social Scene. I know it personally do to the absolute indie pop banger Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl.
Because of its format there tends to be a variety of sound that comes from this album and much like the other BSS album I reviewed the sound is welcome but doesn't always perfectly jell for me.
I had a nice time with this but I definetly need to find a way of giving more intention to the listening experience.
3/5
In the Court of the Crimson King (1969) - Crimsom King
Genre: Prog Rock, Art Rock
Length: 43:54 (5 Tracks)
When I started this album I expected to listen to a fantastic if mundane classic rock album. Something along the lines of led zeppelen. And I got that. but i also got something else.
This work is atmospheric, playing these winding and lengthy insturmentals with sparse lyrics and I honestly wasn't expecting the jazz and classical influnces in it.
Listening back to the work it is meloncholic and eerie theres a lot of depth and texture to it. To the point that it almost steps outside my preconceived notions of rock as a genre.
This is a nice time and I definetly get why this album is considered a classic.
3/5 (should I just get rid of the rating?)
Too Low For Zero (1983) - Elton John
Genre: Pop Rock
Length: 44:23 (10 Tracks)
While there are obviously songs that I like by Elton John I've never acutally listened to him. Probably because I am extremly femphobic.
(I love that movie so much.)
I'm joking. That being said considering that I described orville peck as "What Gay Lana del Ray would listen to if they didn't hate themselves" maybe theres some truth to the statement.
I don't know what to tell you babes. Theres a lot of artists that are such a defining voice of a generation that to say something sounds like them you know what it sounds like. You know what a madonna or elvis or taylor swift song sounds like. and you know what an elton john song sounds like.
It was nice enough but its ok if your mostly are just here for still standing then I understand that too.
3/5
