Hi friends,

I'm logging on today because I need some help. I remember the last time I was in this position was because of COVID, when I fell ill for two weeks and wasn't able to get paid.

Unfortunately, I'm in a similar situation once again. I've had chronic pain and illness since I was 18, and it's something that I've had no answers for in the last ten years.

After Christmas, until the new year, I got hit really hard with some of my worse symptoms, which include a lot of nausea/vertigo, vomiting. I barely ate, and eventually had to stay with my parents until I could recover enough to care for myself. I finished my sick leave with that, and decided it was time for me to see a specialist.

I saw a specialist and booked a colonoscopy/gastroscopy that got re-scheduled a few times due to work, and then in June I got bad symptoms once again. The colonoscopy also ended up being $750, though luckily I was able to get help for that. However, the lack of sick leave means I'm going to really struggle with my bills for the fortnight of 26th of June to 10th of July.

If anyone could spare ANYTHING, it would be greatly appreciated. Genuinely, it's an every dollar counts situation. Unfortunately, the timing is pretty awful, with rent and both gas and electricity bill coming this fortnight, so my goal is hefty ($1,500), but I'm working at all angles I can, so even if I get a little extra and have to scrounge assistance elsewhere, that's honestly fine by me.

This fandom has saved me once before, and I know I've been inactive for a while, but I'm hoping there's still people who follow this blog and can at least signal boost.

How to help Mexico in the aftermath of Category 5 Hurricane Otis

On October 25th, at 1am, Mexico was hit by a massive hurricane that erupted into a Category 5 from a tropical storm in a matter of hours and hit Acapulco with a population of nearly 1 million people in the middle of the night with no warning.

Some things that you need to know: Otis, has been the most powerful hurricane on record to hit Mexico's Pacific coast. There was no warning from the media because of the sudden acceleration that caught many by surprise — just 12 hours before making landfall, it surpassed all forecast. There is no media blackout at all, you can look here, here, here, and other media. Help is arriving sporadically since all the roads to the port city were completely destroyed, the city was left virtually isolated from the outside world since Acapulco is at the foot of steep mountains. Otis toppled every power-line pole in the zone, leaving the city without electricity.  Acapulco’s municipal water system was down and around half a million homes lost power. There is a shortage of gasoline, since it was contaminated mainly with water and sand. It could take more than a year for Acapulco — a city where the main economic income comes from tourism — to recover; with no power, gasoline, little cell coverage and all hotels wrecked by the hurricane.

A preliminary analysis found that the cost of Hurricane Otis could be comparable to that of Hurricane Wilma, a hurricane that hit Mexico's Caribbean coast 18 years ago. Losses from that storm amounted to $2.7 billion (2005 dollars). This is a massive disaster and we need all the help we can get. Currently, most funds received will purchase food, water and supplies from Chilpancingo (the nearest city almost 2 hours away) to be transported in and taken to the most hard hit areas first.

So listen i have this book coming out in uhhh 10 days and I am Worried about it, because it is a Comedy, and comedy is really hard to market (why????? it's funny pirates, what's not to like??) even when it is, yanno, normal mainstream comedy.

It is even worse when it is Unhinged Comedy That's Mostly Going To Be Funny To People On Tumblr. (For example, the main character being a supreme gremlin made of 90% memes by weight (examples: carries around a bag that is never called anything but his "little rucksack"; has a near-verbatim "stick me legy out real far" moment; talks about his metaphorical "orphan gruel bowl" which is a direct reference to that one Oliver Twist gif) because those are funny to me personally.) Unhinged Tumblr Comedy is difficult because tumblr is not a platform where it is easy to market things to people, because we are generally violently anti-capitalist and LOATHE advertisements and reflexively resist being marketed to for most anything. I LOVE that about this website. Except for right now, because I have bills to pay and a cat to feed. So look, fellow tumblr gremlins, I am just trying to say that if your personal brand of comedy is laughing at the kind of jokes that could only be produced on this hell website, and:

you like pirates

you're queer and want to read more books by queer authors

you want your fictional queer characters to be a hell of a lot more Messy and Unhinged than they often are depicted as being

you're interested in seeing a love triangle (M/M/NB) that resolves into polyamory

It gives us great joy to announce our third edition of the Hana Lee Appreciation Week!!

This year we are holding the AW around World Book Day (23rd April) in honour of Hana's passionate, long-lasting love for books!

Hana is talented at a great number of things, but is passionate about just a few. One is music - the other is reading. It was originally a hobby her parents introduced her to, to gain an advantage as a noblewoman, but Hana grew to love it far beyond what her parents expected. Her fondness for Jane Bennett in Pride and Prejudice, her delightful rebellions in secretly reading Wuthering Heights and manhuas, her adorable habit of leaving sweet notes behind, between the pages of a library book. Her love for books has deep and wonderful, and allowed her a window into worlds she didn't even realize existed!

But books and reading aren't our only themes for this AW! Take a look at our theme list for what we plan to do for each day:

After a pretty scary few days, she is eating and drinking (although not as much as I would like). she was definitely more like herself today though, up to and including some escape artist antics that nearly gave me a heart attack.

I am fortunate to have a sibling with the means to put down the $8,000 deposit for the surgery in the wee hours of Tuesday morning on her credit card. I've raised a little over $3,000 thus far to pay her back, but I still have another $5000 to go (trying not to think about my mortgage and bills). I’m a little nervous charging this much after prices have been fairly low for so long but I felt like I was deeply undercharging, especially for bigger and more complicated pieces/character designs. And since it’s the new year, I figured I’d do em now :) There might be adjustments later on for things like additional characters or backgrounds, but with work around the corner and eventually losing a lot of the time I would normally dedicate to commissions, I felt more comfortable sacrificing the frequency of them if it meant I could be paid more for it.

As for other changes, I wanted to introduce a rendered color option for customs. Commission quality coloring and getting a character designs for you, it seemed like a great idea 😌 I also now take Venmo as a payment option since I got it set up months ago so if you prefer that, go for it!

I’m still doing the 5 slot system but they might be the only slots I’ll be taking around February when commissions become a lot more scarce. I will say though that large payments (like $300+ in the rare case anything EVER goes that high) can be separated out into smaller payments, you just won’t get the file until it’s fully paid for.

Short Debts Make Long Friends - Chapter 18

“What if this happens again and I’m not there?” he presses, speaking over you.

“Well, aren’t you the bright little optimist,” you sneer. You plant your hands on your hips and throw him a smirk, but your haggard appearance ruins the fuck-you effect you’re aiming for. “Want me to get you a glass of water so you can tell me it’s half-empty?”

Din stares at you, at a loss. First you are angry at him for reacting how any sane person would during a medical emergency. Now you’re mad for suggesting you take measures to try and prevent it from happening again.  

“Why are you being like this?” he asks finally.

“I didn’t know I was being like anything,” you acidly inform him. “Sorry I’m not falling all over myself with gratitude. What do you want, a fucking thank you card?”

Din’s mouth thins to a hard, angry line. He built a career upon the ability to keep his temper in check, and has been taunted by smartasses far more cutting than you. But this brazen show of contempt has struck a nerve, and instead of appreciating the miracle of being able to even have such a stupid argument, he finds himself fighting the urge to grab you by the shoulders and give you a hard shake – something, anything to break you free of your own willful ignorance. 

“Oh, so you do want a thank you card.”

Of course he doesn't want a thank you card. He doesn't even want your gratitude. He just wants you to see a goddamn doctor.

You fold your arms across your chest with a huff, fed up. “Ugh, fine; spit it out, Mando — what am I being like?”

He grits his teeth, still not trusting himself to reply. What are you being like? What are you being like?

“Hello?” You reach up and snap your fingers in front of his visor, pulling a face at him when turns away. “Did you just switch off or is it time to talk about upgrading your AirPods?” 

Two decades of hard-won self-discipline is felled by a single mocking remark. 

Din turns, and in a rare display of raw emotion, slams his palm against the wall and shouts, “Like you don’t matter!”

hi guys, things are bad

i never thought i would have to make this kind of post, but here we are. some of you saw my little vent-in-the-tags post the other day about shit hitting the fan, and well. things have gone from bad to worse. like, we're probably about to lose everything worse. i'm not gonna go into details, cause frankly it's complicated and this is already hard enough without laying myself and my family bare.

i'm not asking for a miracle here. i would just love to not have to worry about paying for food or medication for the next few days while we try and figure out what our next steps are, but i have $2.19 in my bank account right now.

A heartwrenching start for this series, where Lan Zhan has to deal with the truth regarding his mother's death, and his feelings regarding his family and brother for keeping such information from him, and being responsible for her situation, one way or another.

Personally, Lan Wangji having to deal with the pitfalls of his sect rules, philosophy and behavior is one of my favorite kinds of angst, that can be explored in some many different ways, and I would like to see more.

From the inside of his jacket, his uncle pulled an inconspicuous envelope and handed it to Lan Wangji. “You're old enough to learn the truth about your parents. You mother wrote this letter to you before her death. Your brother wanted me to wait a little a longer until I give this to you, but it is time,” he explained and stepped outside as well.

The follow up of Lan Wangji's turmoil surrounding his sect, brings him to Yiling, where he finds mysterious and unorthodox Wei Wuxian.

In a masterfully done transposition of the mdzx worldbuilding into a modern setting, Lan Zhan has to battle with his presumptions and prejudices and his continuous desires when it comes to Wei Wuxian ft. Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan with mentions of or favorite yiling siblings Wen Qing and Wei NIng.

An honorable mention for the author's delightful worldbuilding regarding the Burial Mounds and Wei Wuxian, which comes in various of their works and I'm always so excited to see explored.

You dress like one anyway. Then maybe try to reach him. He was one too. Earned his money as a driver though. Died during the earthquake. Now he's haunting the streets. Some say, he messed around with the Burial Mounds and that caused the earthquake! I mean, aren't we unfortunate enough already here in Yiling? What are the chances that a quake hits here of all places?" (Or: in the aftermath of an earthquake, the Burial Mounds start spreading and the cultivation world turns a blind eye, but Lan Wangji cannot.)
