Cleithrophobia: The fear of being trapped.

Author's Note: Aaaand that's a wrap! I was going to wait until next week to post this, but you've all been so good waiting for updates that I thought you deserved to get it early. It's been so much fun starting this blog and seeing your reactions to the new chapters, and I can't wait to get started on my next story. I have a few ideas bouncing around, so stay tuned! But in the meantime, enjoy the final installment of our angry spider man!

This story was inspired by cobalt-sphinx's Drider x Reader from Quotev.

You didn't die that night; no. Death would’ve been kinder.

Every waking moment, the events of that night haunted you. Every time you fell asleep, it was as though you were reliving it all again.

Mars hadn’t let up the second you fell into his den. You tumbled down the tunnel that would be too steep to ever climb out of and slammed against the cold ground of the hollowed-out nest below, dimly lit with the lantern you had left in your meeting spot earlier in the night. The impact caused you to lose your breath, but almost immediately he was lifting you up again, roughly shoving his tongue down your throat as you weakly attempted to push him away.

Then he carried you to the newly laid webs in the corner... you shut your eyes. You didn’t want to remember what happened next.

But even now, you could still feel his hands ripping through your clothes, shredding them and leaving you in your most vulnerable state. You could feel his fangs tearing through the soft, delicate flesh of your body, the wet sound of his mouth slurping up your blood in between his loud proclamations of hate. Your voice was gone from all of the screaming, and crying, and begging for mercy, and you weren’t sure how often you passed out only to wake up again in the throes of your torture.

He had left no part of you untouched, unviolated, and you haven’t seen him since.

At some point, you had woken up to find him gone, and although it was impossible to tell how long you’d been here, it had to have been at least a few days. You were forced to lie there, starving and weak in a pool of your own blood and waste, as you fought with yourself to maintain your sanity. There was something inside of you, some weak desire to escape from the hell you’ve been subjected to, that was keeping you alive.

It was quiet, but eventually you heard the scratching of his legs against the dirt walls of the tunnel. He stopped when he reached the bottom, no doubt confused by the darkness of the den. You couldn’t bear to look at your injuries anymore, and over the course of a few excruciating hours you were able to roll over and turn the lantern off.

“This,” he said, as you heard him approach, “was supposed to stay on!”

The lights flickered on and you saw your captor’s irritated face, which quickly turned to surprise. It would’ve been almost comical, if you had the heart to laugh. The two of you looked each other over, him, holding the corpse of a goat by its broken neck, and you, looking like a prey animal that had met a much slower end. As he took you in, his confusion turned to an obvious disgust, and the embarrassment and shame you felt at your current state overtook you.

“...”

“They’re infected.” You were quick to explain. “The wounds, they’ve, uh... they’re festering. They need to be treated.”

It was awful and seeing them again was nothing short of nightmarish. There had been nothing here to clean them when they were fresh, and you wouldn’t have had the strength to do so anyway. In your solitude, you slowly watched as the area around the lacerations swelled and reddened, while a thick, foul-smelling pus leaked out of them. They burned and the redness spread around your body, along with the fever that’s been plaguing you ever since. Your skin glistened with sweat as you watched your skin begin to yellow, and then blacken, shriveling away to reveal the deep-seated fascia and layers of fat underneath. You laid there in agony as your condition worsened, all the while remembering your readings about the necrotizing properties of spider venom.

You were rotting away, from the outside in.

“Please...” you begged, your voice so weak and pathetic sounding that it only embarrassed you further. “Please, let me go. I just have to... have to treat it. I have to go to a hospital.”

He remained unimpressed. “Do you really think that will work on me?”

“I’m serious!” You begged. “I’ll do anything... I’ll come back the second that I can. But I can’t put it off any longer...!” He eyed your injuries again, observing old blood stains on the webs underneath you. The smell was nauseating, and perhaps that was what made him compromise.

“I’ll get you water-”

“No! Water would not do anything at this point, not this far along.“ The only thing that could save you now was a clean environment, with plenty of antibiotics, steroids, skin grafts.

“Please,” you tried again, “I swear to you that I will come back. I’ll die if I don’t!”

“You’ll die?!” He scoffed. “What do you think I do every day? How do you think I feel, knowing that you’re here, wanting to be close to you, but then remembering all of the shit that you did to me?! What I suffer, [Y/N], is a fate worse than death, and all of it is because of you.”

He leaned closer and held up the dead goat.

“This-” he said, shaking it in front of your eyes, “is what I’m supposed to be. An apex predator, one that listens to no one, especially not a useless human like yourself!”

And with that, he tore into its flesh. He maintained eye contact with you as you watched the meat of its body break down and liquify. You imagined yourself in the later stages of your necrosis, with your internal organs falling apart the same exact way.

You didn’t have it in you to be sick anymore. You were too numb. As you watched Mars devour his meal, you realized that this was the exact fate that you deserved. For all of the things that you’ve done to the people you claimed to care about. For Laura, Stan, and Shadow, whose deaths you had caused. You could never be allowed to make a full recovery, physically or mentally, because you have not earned it.

You sighed, closed your eyes, and waited for nature to take its course.

Mars stared down at your unconscious form. You hadn’t been responsive for a few days, and he had lost the last of his patience. He knew, in his heart, that you were being dramatic, that your injuries THAT HE INFLICTED UPON YOU were not nearly as bad as you claimed. He even cleaned your wounds for you, scrubbing them down using water from a nearby pond YOU’D TOLD HIM WATER WAS NOT ENOUGH TO HEAL YOU and the scraps of your old shirt.

He’s done everything he could NO HE HASN’T but you still refused to wake up.

“Hey.” He barked out. Silence.

“HEY.” This time he kicked you. Again, silence.

He knelt, taking one of your hands in his. He briefly glanced over the withered, blackened fingertips and yellowed, peeling nails, before biting into your cold palm. Blood gushed from the puncture, and he waited intently for you to wake up screaming, but he was still met with silence.

He stood and dropped your hand, which fell listlessly to the ground, and licked your blood from his lips. It was off, somehow, extremely sour and not at all as warm and sweet as it used to be.

His hands raked through his hair as he thought to himself. He wasn’t stupid, he knew what a rotten carcass looked like, he had seen them many times out in the woods. But you weren’t dead. You couldn’t be.

Slowly, he approached you again, and even slower, he lowered his ear to the marred flesh above your heart, ignoring the bit of yellow puss that rubbed off onto his cheek.

A heartbeat. He could barely feel it, much less hear it, but it was still there. He looked again at your disfigured face, at the deep cuts in the muscles that so closely resembled the raw meat that you used to bring to him.

He wasn’t stupid. He knew what a creature in its final moments looked like.

You had no way of feeling your naked body being wrapped in a dirty threadbare blanket, or the night’s cool air on your face. You couldn’t feel the way it rocked back and forth as it was carried through the forest. You couldn’t feel it being propped up against the wooden balusters of a front porch, either.

You could, however, hear a voice pulling you back from the darkness that you had been lost in.

“Alright, you’ve won.” It said. It kept tugging on the fabric around you. Adjusting it.

“I’ll take your previous deal.”

When a star is about to die, it receives one final burst of energy before it diminishes completely. Why that was the first thought you had as you mustered up the strength to open your eyes... you could not tell.

Your vision was blurry, and in your left eye it was almost entirely gone. You didn’t have a way to see how milky and deteriorated it had become. But somehow, you were able to make out a few pairs of red eyes staring at you, and a wide, thin mouth which revealed black fangs when it spoke next.

“Go, then, to your little human hospital and sort all of this out. And then afterwards – immediately afterwards – you'll come home again. Don’t... don’t you di-”

His voice caught in his throat, then he huffed in annoyance.

“Don’t you try to screw me over, okay? I’ll know if you try to get out of this one...!”

He stood up then, seemingly miles above you, and gave one final warning:

“Go there and come right back, [Y/N]. Just like you promised.”

Your eyes began to defocus as you heard him bang loudly on the front door and run away, into the pitch-black forest behind you. The door opened, and you heard the woman’s voice change as she processed the macabre scene before her.

“Hello? What is...? Oh... oh my God! Kids! Brandon, Kayla, get in your rooms! Get in them, right now! Charlie, I – Charlie, call 911! You- hey... are you alive? ...Listen, we’re going to get you help! We’re calling an ambulance! Just... just stay awake, alright? Just don’t fall asleep...!”

You held on to her words as much as you could. Deep down, you still felt the animalistic urge to continue living. No, a part of you still wanted to believe that you could get through to the other side of this, as little as you may deserve it. But as your eyelids pulled themselves closed, and as you felt your conciousness begin to slip, you weren’t so sure that you had the strength to hold on anymore...

Hello Writeblr!!!

This is my first time making an intro post for something like this, so it might go through some changes but here we go

I'm Zéta (she/hers), but y'all can refer to me with either of my usernames! (My main blog is @olive-riggzey, and I'll follow people back from there because Tumblr doesn't let sideblogs do the following for some reason??)

For easy(?) access, I'll be linking all of my available stories to this page (which will also be accessible from the main page of this blog!)

Please let me know if you would like to be included on my tag list for whenever I update my stories!

Now here's a little bit about me:

My main genres are fantasy and realistic fiction, although I do love writing science fiction too!

I'm actually mostly a comic creator that likes to write novels/short stories, and I'm currently working on a comic titled "Stained Integrity" (which is what a lot of my current art that I post is from)!

My short stories are written in a different style than my longer works, since I really love writing stream-of-consciousness stories! I have multiple short stories that I am compiling into a booklet of sorts so that they can be read.

I like to let my characters write themselves, so often they take on personalities I wasn't expecting. I think this makes the experience a lot of fun, but this also sometimes makes my stories go a bit off the rails!

I write a TON of aro/ace rep! (I myself am grayro/ace)

I love writing found family tropes! I also really love writing adventure stories, stories involving pirates, dragons, and plants.

I'm a linguist, so I'm really obsessed with language in my stories! I have several fantasy languages that I have constructed, including signed languages! Here's a masterlist for all the random writing advice that I've shared through my love of linguistics.

Because I write a lot of research papers for my studies outside of writing, I have taken to a hobby of writing fantasy textbooks and whatnot that are "cited" by characters in my stories.

You can see my art condensed over here on my other social media! That's where I post art day-of after I draw things, instead of in batches like I do over here.

This is my Wattpad! I have a story updating every other Tuesday over there, as well as an experimental story that will be updating randomly!

I will happily participate in tag games and the like. And my askbox is (hopefully) going to be open indefinitely! But please do not send me chain asks (e.g., "Send this to ten people or else" asks) or tag me in posts with reblog bait (e.g., "Reblog if you ____")! And then there’s the last one.

He doesn’t know them by their real name, only by their handle. And if anyone found out he had notifications enabled for an anonymous thirst account devoted solely to him, he’d never hear the end of it, but the facts are, he is one of the hottest guys on the planet, he is one of the best wrestlers alive, and it’s about damn time somebody appreciated him for it.

Plus, it’s such a nice ego boost to have someone retweeting his selfies, his merch, his televised appearances and his non-wrestling shows. Calling him gorgeous, calling him a king, wanting his dick inside them. He likes to read through some of their posts when his own appreciation for certain other hottest guys on the planet, best wrestlers alive, goes unnoticed. Unappreciated.

It’s thankless work, sometimes, being MJF’s devoted boyfriend, but then, he thinks, the course of true love never did run smooth.

He’s expecting to wait a little while, but it’s not even five minutes before he gets the ping. A new tweet.

It’s with that thought in mind that he grabs his phone. Heads to his bathroom, takes his shirt off. Figures out the best angle to show off his abs, pushes his shorts further down his hips, not quite into dick territory, but the bulge of his cock is visible under the fabric regardless. Puts on his best pout, snaps a few pictures, fucks around with the lighting a little, aaaand… perfect. Finds the best one, posts it up online.

His heart’s pounding in his chest as he navigates to his DMs. He’s never slid into these ones in particular before, doesn’t want to risk Max actually blocking him, but he thinks there’s no better time, even as he gets another notification on his phone, Max sending his thirst post to the right account this time.

He sends a copy of the screenshot, cropped to include Max’s handle.

[IT WAS YOU THE WHOLE TIME? 😳🥵💦😈😈😈😍]

He’s barely even sent it before he sees the dots indicating Max composing his reply. Wonders what he’s going to get—

About five seconds after that, he’s blocked.

Hah, whatever he says. He knows the truth now. Max wants him. Wants his dick, thinks he’s a king, has secretly been just as devoted to him as he’s been to Max this whole time.

He rolls onto his back. Hugs his phone in his chest and sighs dreamily, content in the knowledge that he is going to be so fucking insufferable over this.

--- Ashi and Ace arrived to the beach as things were still getting started. Tuna waved at the two as they continued to blow up various floats. Tuna quickly pointed towards an array of items ready to play with, among them shined full water guns. Remembering Ashi's previous teasing, Ace was quick to secure one and run into the water. Ace gave his signature smirk and yelled "Come oooon Ashi!! Or are you the chicken now huh?" Not taking any of Ace's tom foolery, Ashi ran to the water with her duck float, determined to make him eat those words! Taking higher ground seemed like a great idea! Ride the duck and shoot freely! However, that was a short lived idea as Ace was quick to get the upper hand and knock the float over. Despite this, Ashi readied her next attack and began a barrage of splashes. The two were back and forth in a heated battle of true youth! After a good few rounds of back and forth bickering over who was winning, Ashi and Ace had to stop and see what Tuna was yelling about now. Turns out the drinks and snacks were finally set up. A comical gurgle of stomachs brought the fight to a truce and the two raced to the buffet for some ice cold drinks! ---

@soosee, oooooh, you mean the ~forbidden archives?~ (just kidding it's just stuff I never really finished properly/stuff I haven't posted on here because it's not bsd related)

but since you mention it, I am now going to go down a rabbithole, because oh my gosh. Just for context, I now have about three and a half sketchbooks full of primarily skk, so. There are a lot of things I haven't gotten around to rendering properly aksdjfksdjfksd, and I have a lesser but still substantial amount of actual planned out/partially rendered comics and illustrations in my drawing program, my drafts are a MESS.

So, under the cut, here are a bunch of those things for anyone who's curious!

First off, there was a nineteen page comic that I did lineart for back in...January, I think? and then I never finished it because I started working on other things, and then when I finally came back to it I squinted and realized my whole rendering style(and also how I draw Chuuya) had changed and that redoing the whole thing would be an absolute pain, so I've never gotten around to fixing it. I still like it in concept, though: it's basically just Chuuya and Dazai being domestic and talking after Dazai is having a bad night. And I still kinda like these four pages, at least.

Aaand a comic I'm still planning on finishing called "Knife Squad"

A couple Little Mermaid AU things I almost fully rendered and then never got back to akdfjksdjfks

Then there was a hurt-comfort skk comic that I planned out and then still have not rendered (side note, this is how I make comics sometimes; i just pull in pictures I've taken from my sketchbook to plan out paneling and stuff)

And I have this short comic based on my "This is how it feels to take a fall" fic, which I have sketched out but not fully rendered lol

SHORT ANSWER: no! or... maybe? i, or anyone for that matter, knows nothing on who her partner is! unless i am missing things. (if so, tell me, but be nice and direct!)

LONG ANSWER UNDER THE CUT!! A WHOLE RAMBLE, because we all know how i RAMBLE! below i talk about design process stuff, where i am trying to go with the story??? ideas on what happened to belle's partner (but not who they are) and Light TTCC Lore Criticisms.

thanks for asking! i actually had a small converation about this with a friend yesterday - of figuring out who belle's partner is/was. she never ever mentions having a partner, and she's very focused on talking about just her grandchildren. i know that is just to portray her grandma trope - but her being mrs. dama **AND** having a confirmed family and grandkids (and kids by extention) does make me raise an eyebrow at that!

i am sort of making my own story here, that's been in the works for over a year but hasn't gone anywhere due to struggles with cassie's design. but, now i'm getting there, so now's a good time to ponder!

to the design-side of things - i haven't really considered these colors while designing collin, i just went with a more purpley-than-blue design to fit his role as a sellbot better. (and because i LOVE drawing and designing things with purple.)

i then designed tony backwards (after collin!), and haven't exactly considered who the other parent is. i wouldn't break my mind over the colors too much, myself, since that feels almost genetical and these fellows are robots. with that, i just made tony purple! (but red was considered, i think! on my touch tone touch tone telephone)

also, i am re-working how cogs/suits function in my work, so i am once again stuck on the "how make baby where baby come from" question. but, i stand with my previous headcanon, that it is like in Robots, where they build their children and just often do it based on their own physical traits they have.

either way, back on topic, i wanna talk about belle's partner since it is fresh on mind!

i actually considered making her a widow - which my friend suggested too! adds a bit more drama and reason into some of the actions the damas take in my current story, and it makes more sense and fits together better.

would also give an explanation on why someone who's so invested in her family never mentions her partner - because she's trying to move on / has moved on. (though we don't hear of all her rambles and rumor-talk, do we...?) + we know me and my bright colorful characters who do goofy things who actually have slightly fucked up stories behind all that. i promise i am not trying to make an angst fest, i just want a story with ups and downs and conflict and drama to... have a story...? can't have a Real Good story if nothing happens and all is good, lol. just wanted to say that

or just a divorce story! also stirs a family apart. gives different but similar reasonings for actions the character's take... and POSSIBLY an even better reason to not discuss this (past) partner!.... why a divorce story? WE DON't KNOW HOW COGS/SUITS DIE. DON'T MAKE ME TURN THIS INTO ANOTHER ATTICUS LORE CONVO. ILY ATTICUS BUT CHRIST WAS THAT POORLY HANDLED.

and now it's being put under the rug without being DIRECTLY SAID it is being put under the rug... (aside from like, old comics being hidden and us being told there's a rewrite happening) so now the lore is even MORE confusing than it was...! so...! how canonical is "the first death" anyway...? if anything that's one thing in the story i want to respect. quite a BIG deal. but also even back then it wasn't handled as seriously and interestingly as it could've been so...! aaaand i am sure the Writers know that and i think trying to rework it is a great choice. but man. i will for once let my opinions and criticisms be public, hidden away in this ramble - staff needs better communication on Everything but ofc lore stuff is gonna be my first Complaing lol. yall r saving explanations for later and behind an event (thomas) and args...! please what happeun to atticus...! ok i already turned this into a ramble. MOVING ON. I NEEDED TO VOICE THIS PUBLICLY SOMEWHERE LOL. BUT YEAH. IM NOT PLAYING WITH THE IDEA OF COG DEATH UNTIL THE CANON CLEARS IT UP. EVERYONE GETS PLOT ARMOR LMFAO. MODS WHO FOLLOW ME PLEASE DONT KILL ME. I LIKE THIS GAME

BACK TO THE DAMA FAMILY! now.... why am i so adamant of having belle's partner out of the picture?

i don't wanna design them. that's that. i'll be real. lol.

i am... ! already working on cassie's partner, and eventually THEIR child. this has been a concept for over a year and i'm slowly finally getting there, i don't want another member on my shoulders just yet :sob:

and the whole story i am telling here is heavy on the family drama (before i try introducing other characters perhaps...? cassie does have her partner, but her side of the story is a bit disconnected, her being a celebrity in my lore and all. generally being more distant in the family.)

Hi! I just wanna ask, in your hc what happened to Hortense and Quackmore? And if they're dead, there's a chance abt Donald being adopted by Scrooge and Glomgold (or Scrooge and Goldie) as their son (and Downy's little brother)?? I love your drawings!

Buckle up, since this will take some time…

So, yeah. In my head-canon, both Hortense and Quackmore are dead. I just can’t find any other (good) way to explain their absence (it’s already hard enough in Della’s case…).

Donald and Della were probably rather young when this happened – I’ll go with around... seven years old (eight at most). It was a car crash, yet the circumstances are still unclear; but I think that Hortense and Quackmore started to argue about something (“You should have turned left!” “No, this is the right way!”), and then, in that critical moment, something happened and –

They didn’t die immediately on the impact. Maybe they even had the change to say their good-byes to each other. One of them died on they way to the hospital; another one – I think it was Hortense? – held on little longer, long enough that her family had the changer to see her, even if she at that point was already fallen in coma, of which she never woke up.

Donald was raised by his grandma, but Scrooge always had a big role in his life, coming to visit them almost every weekend and all. He likes giving Donald some rather… terrible life advises, but also indulges him by joining in his games and telling stories about his past.

So, in my hc, Scrooge and Donald are definitely closer than what they are in canon (especially in Don Rosa’s comics), and he do play the role as a father-figure, even if no-one dares to say it out loud.

(As what comes to Della, my head-canon is split; she’s sometimes raised alongside of Donald, but sometimes she was taken in by Matilda, and if Scrooge in that case had any contact with her or not, depends on what kind of relation he’s having with his sister in that storyline.)

Now, in the stories where my OC’s exist, Donald is more closer with Scrooge’s granddaughter, Rosie, than what he is with her mother, aka his cousin Downy. That’s mostly because of their ages: Downy is about twenty years older than Donald, so she mostly plays the role of a cool older cousin/younger aunt, who encourages you to try new things and helps you to hide all the evidence of your misgivings.

Rosie, in the other hand, is six or so years younger than Donald, and totally sees him (and Della, again, if she’s around) as her older siblings. She admires Donald greatly and follows him into any mischief he can come up with.

If Scrooge and Flintheart are in relationship during Donald's childhood – sometimes they are, sometimes they aren’t – he’s known as the grumpy uncle who doesn’t so much play with you but is the first one to rush in to check you for injuries if he hears even a one crash or yell (that’s because he isn’t as used to children as Scrooge and Elvira are, and doesn’t know just how endurable they actually are).

So, long story short: Donald wouldn’t be adopted by Scrooge (I wouldn’t do that to Elvira!), but he would have two uncles to (grudgingly) bow to his whims, an older cousin who would turn a blind eye to all his mischief as long as it wouldn’t be anything life-threatening, and a younger cousin who would adore him no matter what.

Aaaand then there's still my Ducktales AU, but let's leave it out of this... for now.

Here you go! It’s a bit long answer, but, like you see, my head-canon sifts a bit from story to story and I wanted to make this as inclusive as possible.

Too Many Drawing Ideas!!!

Istg every time I sit down and open Procreate with the intention to start refining one of my endless wips, I add a new one instead. Sketched out another 10-page comic now I'm... someone has to stop me, or tell me to sit down and work on one of the many other ideas first XD

Currently, what I've lined up, are some illustrations, some a bit more elaborate than others (almost all are V & Kerry, who would have guessed it):

"Morning Routine", V & Kerry basically just getting ready together in the morning xD

One with the working title "bed pizza", set quite a while after the Sun Ending - a little bit more angsty, but overall hopeful, basically just a small headcanon idea I had

"Phillipines Vacation" - maybe self-explainatory XD

Another small headcanon thing with just V, regarding how the subtitles and instant translator in-game work; basically just an "I would actually like this technology in the real world for reasons xyz" idea

Then a few that are currently just sketches for illustrations, but which I'm tempted to turn into comics:

The only one without Kerry, but instead V and Jackie, a little intermediate scene set right after the ending of the Corpo lifepath intro and before V moves in with Jackie, just adding some personal flavour to it all

Working title "You should have brought bigger towels", set right after Boat Drinks xD would honestly like this just as a single drawing with a little ficlet added, too, but would also love to do it as a short comic bc aaahhh

Aaaand a bunch of longer and shorter comics:

"Charter Hill" - about how V grew up in view of the Dark Matter rooftop lounge and how Kerry reacts when he learns this

"Bandana" - V and Kerry clean out some old stuff and Kerry finds something interesting

"Earring exchange" - a short and simple one that I'd probably do in gif format even, but also a beloved headcanon XD

And another short untitled one that I'm still thinking of changing up a bit in which V deals with some unexpected dysphoria

This is far from all the ideas on my mind atm, but the ones I have sketches for at least... Not sure why I'm posting this, maybe in the hopes that one of these will strike a nerve with someone and you'll help me make a decision on what to get started with XD before I sketch out even more stuff... (for example, a design for V's top surgery "scars" - in quotation marks, bc I have something extremely specific in mind and sth I'd love to make as a mod for him some day xD and so much more stuff it's aaargh öakdöfsdfkdkff)

FAN THEORY... UM... SATURDAY – Megamind’s Guide to Defending Your City

Okay, yes, I know, I’m keeping the tradition of being late with these posts. So sue me. Go ahead. The joke’s on you because I’m pursuing a graduate degree and I’m perpetually scrapped! HA!

And yes, in case you’re wondering, there will still be some information concerning the 2010 Megamind film. SPOILER WARNING!

This week we’re changing things up a bit. In celebration of the upcoming series Megamind’s Guide to Defending Your City, I’ve asked fellow fans what they expect or hope to see, as well as researching some of the previous projects of the producers involved. Very little is known for certain, but the program is scheduled to appear on the Peacock streaming service and rumored to have a release date sometime in 2023 or 2024. (Those are, however, only rumors.) Everything in this post is, of course, all entirely unofficial, and is intended only to outline a few of the fandom’s dearest wishes along with some reasonable possibilities. If nothing else, it should be interesting.

Before we begin, however, it might be best to lay a little groundwork. In case there’s anyone who hasn’t been leaping off the walls and scream-singing anthems of celebration since DreamWorks’ announcement last month, let me review what little solid information we do have. According to Deadline, Megamind’s Guide to Defending Your City will follow our favorite blue alien’s transformation from supervillain to Defender of Metro City, and will likely be formatted, at least in part, like a vlog. (Am I the only one feeling slight Doctor Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog vibes? Although I trust there will be fewer musical numbers and a far happier ending.) This is because, while his brainbots film, Megamind will be “training on the job” as he learns to be a hero, thus becoming “the world’s first superhero influencer.”

Some fans are less than thrilled by the premise, but others are strongly in favor of it. Personally, I feel the concept has significant merit—it certainly seems like something the blue man would do—as well as great possibilities for comedic moments. It’s easy to imagine a scene similar to the unused post-credits storyboard—in which Megamind rescues a woman from muggers with the help of Roxanne piloting a giant mech that, unfortunately, accidentally takes out power lines and a water tower—immediately cutting to a vlog entry featuring the alien genius making some remark such as: “Aaaand that did not go well.” But I digress. The point is that, other than the aforementioned release information, that’s all we know for certain about the series thus far. Now, without further ado, let’s get into the fan theories!

The MegaRox Ship Had Better Not Sink!

This is a big one, and perhaps the most obvious. People adore the blue hero’s relationship with Roxanne Ritchi, and many fans fully expect her to appear in the new streaming show as Megamind’s girlfriend. (ThatFilthyAnimalmentioned on Tumblr that he expects we may see Roxanne knowingly kissing her blue boyfriend.) It’s not an unfounded supposition. The two have obviously formed a romantic bond by the end of the movie. Near the beginning of the film, we see the then-supervillain worrying over his appearance and clearly trying to impress his abductee. What’s more, this has the feeling of an ongoing situation. Obviously, Megamind loved Roxanne from afar for a prolonged time; probably years given that he’s estimated to have been a Bad Guy for around two decades and that the whole kidnapping routine has become commonplace for Miss Ritchi. After steadfastly adoring the reporter for so long while refusing to pressure her, then risking his life to save her from Titan, it is highly unlikely that Megamindwould ever wish to end their relationship.

Then there are the Bad Blue Brilliant comics to consider. Although generally viewed as only pseudo-canonical, they do possess some relevance. For the most part, these short graphic narratives take place after the alien super-genius’ switch to heroism, and it appears that his relationship with KMCP’s top female reporter is very much en force. In “Mega-Mutt” Roxanne mentions that she and Megamind had a date at the library planned, so clearly they are a couple. The episode entitled “A Sidekick’s Sidekick” takes it one step further, with Megamind and his girlfriend announcing a shared shopping trip for some décor to “spruce up the Lair,” something the blue hero refers to as a “time-honored tradition.” There is only one common reason, in US culture at least, that might prompt a man to invite his lover to help him redecorate. It’s likely that these two are not only dating but also living together—a fact that, in turn, indicates a serious romantic attachment.

However you look at it, Megamind and Roxanne’s relationship is firmly established, and nearly all fans agree it would be tragic to see them separate. After all, the blue man not only called his love interest his “reason to win,” but was also clearly prompted by her to become a hero in the first place. This is hardly surprising as she seems to have been the first human, with the possible exception of a few inmates during his childhood, to accept Megamind as a person rather than “other.” Roxanne is the catalyst that made Megamind a better man, and losing her would almost certainly devastate him. Seriously, DreamWorks, don’t go breaking our hearts!

The Doom Syndicate Might Just Show Up

While discussing what might appear in the new series with other Megamind aficionados on The Evil Lair Discord, Ejga-Ostjamentioned a couple of good points. The first is that it seems reasonable to expect the Doom Syndicate might appear in Megamind’s Guide to Defending Your City. After all, why invent new adversaries when perfectly serviceable ones already exist?

What am I talking about? Those familiar with the unused movie storyboards or the Megamind video games will already be aware that the blue man wasn’t the only supervillain in Metro City, although he does appear to have been the top-ranked. The others are roughly united in a conglomeration called the Doom Syndicate which was originally intended to appear in the 2010 film but was eventually cut out as the side narratives would have rendered the existing plot too long and complex. The Villains Fandom Wiki states that they appear to be a parody of other evil cabals appearing in comic books, especially DC’s Legion of Doom.

According to Fandom.com, several known characters from this group did, however, show up in the video games. Megamind: Ultimate Showdown featuredPsycho-Delic, a villain who produces drugged or poisoned vapors with various effects, Hot Flash, an aging vixen with fire-based abilities, and Destruction Worker, who is essentially part man and part machine. Megamind: Mega Team Unite included more villains from the organization: Conductor, who gathers and controls electrical charges much like DC’s Livewire, and Judge Sludge, who appears to have been a corrupt judicial bureaucrat before somehow transforming into a toxic blob man. Many also wonder if we might see Lady Doppler, a fan favorite from The Art of Megamind who boasts the ability to control weather. It seems likely that some or all of these characters may make appearances in the new series, but it’s equally plausible that we could see some new Bad Guys as well. It should also be noted that Richard von Busack’s book The Art of Megamindfeatures a range of other supervillains as well, ranging from interesting to frankly absurd, so there are additional existing ideas that the new program’s creators could draw from.

Please, Please Do It Right!

The other aforementioned point that Ejga-Ostja offered was discussed in various ways by a number of fans as well, and that is, quite simply, that we all hope every possible aspect of this series is given the love and effort a Megamind sequel richly deserves. This includes everything from the content and quality to the treatment of animators. Yes, I know that sounds like a lot, but this is important to so many people who have waited eagerly for Megamind to finally appear on screen again.

To begin with, LiterallyZia expressed a desire that, despite their work being intended as children’s programming, the creators will also keep their existing fans in mind.

“I hope they realize that the main audience who saw the movie twelve years ago are all twelve years older; it can still definitely be a family show with deeper themes and discussions.”

They’re not wrong, and presenting child-friendly entertainment that nonetheless deals with serious concepts and social issues would be on-brand for Megamind. (Feel free to read previous posts such as Megamind and Masculinity, What’s Hidden in the Animation, The Warden, and Megamind and Identity if you’d like to learn more about that.) The simple fact is that many audience members who watched the original film back in 2010 were between ten and fifteen years old at the time, making them adults in their twenties now. Indeed, some fans are even older, having taken younger family members to the cinema or chosen to watch an animated feature on a lark only to find themselves unexpectedly impressed with the film. Even someone who first became enthused with the blue villain-turned-hero at an earlier age, say five or six, will be in their late teens or even early twenties by the time the series premier.

If the talent involved in producing Megamind’s Guide to Defending Your City is any indication, Zia and other fans may get their wish. The writers of the original movie screenplay, Alan Schoolcraft and Brent Simons, will work as the executive producers on the series. They’ll be joined by Eric Fogel, who created Celebrity Death Match as well as directing several episodes of Daria, and J.D. Ryznar, who has been involved with productions like Drunk History and Hot Streets. A good balance between the deeper contexts and adult humor found in these productions with the child-friendly standards of DreamWorks Animation should, theoretically, result in excellent entertainment. And that balance seems likely. Of the four mentioned above, three have worked with DreamWorks in the past.

That’s a good thing because balancing family entertainment with somewhat more mature topics is important to many Megamind fans. Ejga-Ostja seconded this view, stating that many of the series’ new viewers are likely to be older children who “will roll with things made for an older audience even if they don't entirely follow heavier themes.” She also expressed her interest in the overall quality of the series as well as the fair treatment of those involved, however.

According to Game Rant, there is a recent movement, #NewDeal4Animation, which seeks to gain public understanding and support for the issues faced by animators under New Media contracts. Because streaming services aren’t legally bound by the same rules as more traditional media, they can (and too often do) pay their talent less. Furthermore, there are no bonuses for programs being renewed for multiple seasons as they are often created all at once and then broken up. Ejga-Ostja said that she hopes “DreamWorks is taking this to heart” and that they and Peacock will ensure fair treatment and wages. Several other members of the aforementioned Discord were quick to agree.

Of course, like many others, Ejga-Ostjaalso hopes there will be a lot of care and attention lavished on this new series. After all, Megamind fans have been actively campaigning, not to mention practically begging, for this sequel for over a decade. This is something very many of us are extremely passionate—and excited—about, and we’re happy to be patient if it results in the highest possible quality of content.

“We've waited eleven years, we can wait longer if it means the employees are treated better, not being rushed, and the show gets more love and effort put into it.”

Mega Mysteries Could Be a Thing

Another fan theory concerning Megamind’s Guide to Defending Your City is that, along with fighting crime and battling supervillains, we may see the blue man solving a few mysteries. This is based not only on his enormous intellect—Sherlock Holmes, eat your heart out—but also on some of those involved in the upcoming show. Although far from certain, and of course only supposition, the idea is not entirely without foundation.

As I’ve said, J.D. Ryznar previously worked on Hot Streets, an Adult Swim animated program that featured an FBI agent investigating supernatural occurrences and misdeeds along with his rather eclectic companions. It’s important to note that Ryznar was a voice actor on that project, but even so, some fans wonder if he might not bring that experience to the new series. And it’s possible that’s not the only reason to speculate on the possibility of Megamind’s Guideinvolving some elements of detection. Eric Fogel created the late-nineties animated series The Head, in which an average human inadvertently forms a symbiotic bond with an alien who is “on the trail of an enemy from his planet.” Although not exactly a mystery, the narrative features this pair, along with a secretive group of others possessing unusual abilities, trying to discover the dangerous extraterrestrial’s whereabouts and plots before they can destroy Earth, imbuing this production with elements of both the detective and superhero genres.

It’s not that much of a stretch to imagine some elements of mystery in the upcoming show. Many agree that it would, after all, make sense for the Blue Defender to use his massive intellect in solving cases. (If you’ve read How Smart is Megamind, you already know that his IQ may be around 350.) Our favorite alien hero may not have superpowers, but he is a super-genius, and some fans speculate that we may see him playing to those strengths by solving crimes as well as engineering brilliant heroic inventions.

What Else Do Fans Think We Might See?

There’s some debate about how competent Megamind will be portrayed in his earliest days as a hero. A Megamind’s Guide to Defending Your City Bingo sheet on ThatFilthyAnimal’s Tumblr page suggests that the blue man may initially be fairly bad at his new position, but at the same time evidence from the Metro City scene of Trollhunters: Rise of the Guardians—which shows clean streets, people comfortably walking around at night without fear of crime, and copious new technology including a state-of-the-art public transportation system—indicates that he may actually be an excellent Defender. Time will tell, but personally, I believe it’s most probable we’ll see a combination of both.

Beyond that, a large number of fans hope that Megamind will still be wearing blue and black. This seems likely as he returned to his old uniform, thus embracing his own brand of heroism, at the end of Button of Doom. Furthermore, in the previously mentioned Trollhunters movie, Metro City is covered in the alien super-genius’ signature colors. That’s not the only part of his old villainous attire that fans hope he keeps, however. Filthy mentioned on Twitter that he’d like to see Megamind wearing eyeliner once more, and I have to agree. The Goth style looks good on him.

Then, of course, there is the widespread fan theory that Megamind—possibly Roxanne as well—is bisexual. Naturally, being a family program, there are definite limits to how much sexuality of any kind we can expect to see in the show. However, the same-sex parents recently featured in Toy Story 4 and DreamWorks’ positive response to a particular piece of fanart make this seem much more plausible. At any rate, it would certainly please a great many fans to see this aspect of the blue man’s character made official.

There are a great many other suppositions concerning possible elements of this upcoming production, of course, but those are a few of the prevalent ones being discussed. One thing is absolutely certain, however: after eleven years of waiting, the Megamind fandom is completely thrilled that some kind of sequel is finally in the works. We are all looking forward to this new program with bated breath.

aaaand just like that, we’ve reached the end of this batch of updates for Return. A reunion between Leia and Ben was absolutely necessary imo when I started writing this and it’s so sad we didn’t get that in the movie. Writing out their dialogue here (and for the next part) was really fun in an emotional way. I hope you’re enjoying the journey so far, there’s still so much to come!
