This episode had zero Bailey
90% Monica ✨✨✨✨Lucy's heritage not just seen on screen through her in every episode but actually acknowledged in THIS episode and during AAPI Month✨✨✨✨ A Chenford elevator scene that proves they are still very much in love and are 1100000% each other's person and even though Lucy is mad at Tim, she won't be mad at him forever and I am crying just thinking of that Chenford elevator scene because Lucy Chen is Tim Bradford's safe place. That was a husband/wife hug. A villain named ERIC
Gang bangers who look like my best friend's uncles
Wade/Angela/Nyla WHOOPING that weasel detective's ass
John Nolan being a badass
Twice more Smitty content than Tim

saw u had girl dad! tim inspo, what abt a him taking her to a daddy/daughter dance??
Now here’s the thing, the whole time leading up to the dance, Tim is a little uncomfortable with the whole thing. The thought of spending a whole evening with a bunch of middle aged dads and their tiny princesses? Not his ideal Saturday evening. But Jade is so excited. She hasn’t shut up about it since she found out what a daddy daughter dance *was*.
“Me and my daddy are going to a special dinner this weekend!” She’s told just about everyone.
“We’re going to wear fancy clothes like in mommy and daddy’s wedding pictures!”
The night of, Lucy teases him as he fidgets with the suit jacket.
“I can’t believe I’m wearing a tux to hang out with 20 5 year olds…”
“Yes but think about how excited *your* 5 year old is about this! She’s been so mad at us for not inviting her to our ‘fancy party’ for years.”
Tim softens a bit at that. Jade loved his and Lucy’s wedding photos, and threw a fit when she found out she hadn’t been invited—even though she wouldn’t be born for another year or so.
“And she looks *super* cute.” It’s as if the word ‘cute’ spawns the girl.
“Daddy!! Look at me in my dress!” Jade twirls around in her qipao inspired toddler dress; it was in a light blue with navy blossoms covering it. A matching blue to his tie. He smiled; he couldn’t help it. She did look super cute. Like someone put Lucy in the dryer.
“Ooh! Okay let me get a picture!” Lucy pushes them in front of the fireplace, the wedding picture above them.
Tim picks Jade up, and presses a raspberry to her cheek and she squeals, “you look beautiful, Bug.”
“Thank you daddy!” Jade giggles.
Lucy snaps a few pictures before Tim insists it’s time to leave, but Jade insists herself on seeing one of the pictures.
She gasps. “LOOK!” She points at the last one taken. Then she points to the picture above the hearth.
“Just like Mama and Daddy.”

It's Lucy Chen's first Mother's Day.
In the soft morning light filtering through the curtains, Tim bustled quietly in the kitchen, his heart brimming with anticipation. Expertly eyeballing ingredients into a large bowl, he prepared a breakfast fit for a hotshot: fluffy blueberry matcha pancakes with fresh berries, and decaf chai.
As he arranged the breakfast tray with care, Tim couldn't help but reflect on the journey that had led them here. Lucy and he had weathered unimaginable losses, yet emerged stronger. And now, as they awaited the arrival of their daughter, their hearts overflowed with gratitude for the miracle of new life. Neither had really dared to entertain the idea of parenthood until now.
Lucy's choice of their daughter's first and middle name, a tribute to a resilient little girl who had touched her heart at work, and a nod to her beloved grandmother Anna, spoke symbolic volumes of the strength that she wanted to instill in her daughter.
When Tim first met Anna, it all clicked for him. He knew exactly where his Boot got her tenacity from. Over time, Lucy shared with him that Anna gave her the confidence to stand up to bullies who made fun of her for being Chinese and supported her as she became a cop even as Vanessa had hesitations. Tim was at first a little intimidated by Anna because she's tough, loves fiercely, and could've whipped Tom Bradford into shape, according to his wife. He also has an immense appreciation for Anna, for all the adversity that she had to go through and overcome, to create a better world for people like his wife and their future kids - his family.
As he made a smiley face out of strawberries and bananas for Lucy's pancake, his phone lit up with a text from Anna:
I couldn't have asked for a better dad for my great-granddaughter.
With breakfast ready and a smile tugging at his lips thanks to his grandma-in-law, Tim made his way to their bedroom, where Lucy lay snuggled under the covers, still asleep. He gently woke her with a kiss and set her breakfast tray on her nightstand.
"Happy Mother's Day, Lucy."

What aspects of Lucy's culture would you like to see on the show?
Hi Nonnie! Thanks for your thought-provoking question!
We just want to see it, lol. UC Lucy mentioned in 6x09 that she speaks Cantonese and that was the first time in seasons that it has been acknowledged … whereas Angela’s culture has been referenced ~4 times in this season alone. We do feel that Angela’s culture did get stereotyped a bit this season (Celina’s even moreso), but that’s a different post for another time.
Last month, Melissa O’Neil shared that she wanted Lucy to wear slides around the house and she asked why Lucy didn’t have a rice cooker. Having these as silent nods to her culture would be cool. It would make Mel happy too, which is a plus. We would love a scene where Tim walks into the house with shoes on and Lucy’s like … nope … and she basically “trains” him to take his shoes off.
We’d love it too if the show used culture as a way to help Chenford grow closer together. There’s a lot about this part of Lucy’s life that Tim is unfamiliar with.
+1: here’s what we don’t want to see … Lucy calling her grandma “nana” … excuse us but what have you done with Lucy Chen, Alexi Hawley? It is highly unlikely that someone from her culture is gonna call her grandmother “nana” 😅. What about you? What aspects of her culture would you like to see/not see? Is there anything else you'd like us to chime in on? Send us your thoughts!

@celebratinglucychen was borne out of ... a lot of things. For one, there was an impetus to do something cultural, fun, positive, and encouraging that focuses on our favorite lady and that connects our fandom to each other and to her in this way. I think it's incredibly cool that we all rally behind this beautiful Chinese-American soul named Lucy Chen. It wasn't always like this, not even 10 years ago. For me and for @sailorslut111, there's a need to consistently recognize Lucy this way, in part, because we don't want to diminish her importance and her impact on media.
Culture is important and her heritage should be celebrated. So we invite you to celebrate Lucy Chen with us!

AAPI & Lucy Chen
Hi everyone! @sailorscout here.
When putting together this event, I was reminded of my first foray into fandom culture from 15ish years ago. I can’t remember what show or movie got me started but I do know the character I was in LOVE with was a black woman. I just wanted more of her; her story, her thoughts…she seemed like a person I could grow up in to. I remember being so disappointed when I went looking for content about her because none of it felt authentic to her character and her experience as a black woman. I felt that her blackness was ignored because of people’s hesitation or reluctance to reflect on race or womanhood in POC. I was 13 and felt so disappointed in the lack of interest in representing her fully. I truly felt hurt by it because this was a character that I strongly identified with because I saw myself in her and felt that I truly belonged.
Now I’m 28 and I’ve found another character that made me feel like that one did from all those years ago: Lucy Chen. But funnily enough, I find that there are still the same issues going on in fandom. While Lucy is BELOVED by just about the whole fandom and she does get her flowers with fics and drabbles and such, the lack of interest in representing who she is as a WOC is….disappointing. And I realized that I can finally be the person (with the help of @summerongrand and hopefully you guys!) that can help another girl, who sees herself completely in Lucy, who will join this fandom, who will seek out fics and creators who expand upon Lucy, who wont hesitate to reflect on her race. I hope the next little girl will find stuff that will uplift her, stuff that she *recognizes* in herself. Lucy is Chinese and if I can see myself in her, I can’t imagine how much she means to an Asian or Chinese girl or even woman. There is a lack of black representation but there’s even more of a lack of Asian representation and we don’t need to let that continue because we can express her fully in this fandom.
This event is special to me. Just like Lucy. She’s gotten such unfair treatment this season and I think we as a fandom can really do a lot to uplift her character and push for better for her and her experiences as a WOC. As a WOC, I just think it’s really important to highlight not just women but their color. Color is such a huge part of our identity and we often don’t feel seen. One of the ways we feel seen is by acknowledging color.
So, with all that being said, I’m here to remind you to engage in this event, whether it’s a fic or a Drabble or art work or even just an “ask” to us about one of the prompts! Feel free to ask us our thoughts and feelings too about anything related to this topic!
We’re already half way through AAPI month and I would really love to end the month with a few things to repost :) maybe Mel will see them. Maybe not. But someone will and it’ll mean the world to them :)

One note ...
We fully understand and are aware that not everyone is familiar with some of our prompt topics. If you would like our assistance diving into these topics for your fanworks, if you would like us to be your sounding board, or even if you’re just curious to learn more, feel free to message or “Ask” us! If we don't have the answers, then we'll gladly point you to an online resource that does!
(Note: since this is a group blog, DMs will need to be sent to one of @summerongrand, @sailorslut111, or both)

To the self-described WOC/progressive/woke Anon who left a message in my Ask box calling me “woke” …
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You gave me a lot of personal details in your Ask. I know who you are and we're not even moots. I'm gonna err on the side of momma bear caution and not publish your message because I don't think you'd want your personal details out there. And if you do, message me. I know who you are.
IMO there's a difference between @celebratinglucychen, having an interest in reflecting on and representing a WOC in a fandom that is largely race-reluctant, and being woke. I personally wouldn't label uplifting Lucy as a WOC as being "woke". To me, it's the bare minimum that we can do for a character that we all love and adore. In all transparency, you’re the first person who has ever called me woke. I recently got called out for being not-woke by the last person you'd ever think of: an old, white, Oxford-trained British lady with a summer home in the British Hamptons.
So, uh, it feels oddly validating that you think this about me. Thanks for that I guess? And remember to celebrate Lucy Chen!

Hi - this is such a lovely idea!
Few q’s on how to participate:
- Do we just post whatever we are submitting for a prompt on tumblr to the tag and specify the prompt?
- Are we “allowed” to submit things we’ve created in the past that align with a prompt or is the goal to generate new content?
Thanks for organizing this thoughtful event!
Hi Lana! These are great questions!!!
1.) Yes! We encourage everyone to hashtag all works for this event as #AAPILucyChen (so that everyone can see it and so that we can reblog/like) and to specify the prompt(s). Currently we have the event open on both Tumblr and Twitter, but really your works can be posted on any social media platform of your choosing along with the hashtag. If it’s a new fic, we suggest posting it onto AO3 and sharing a link to it on social media.
2.) Of course! If you’ve got things that line up, go right ahead and share! New content is great but we’d love to see your previous works too! The fandom has grown so much and it would be a shame to miss out on already-created content that connects to the prompt and/or the theme.
If it’s not prompt-related but still theme-related, we’d love for you to share it too using the hashtag! We view the prompts more as ideas to help people think creatively about the theme. We absolutely can’t wait to see what you have to share!
Thanks for these wonderful questions, Lana!
