AnthonyPham: Excited to announce that I’ve been nominated for two @abbeyroadmpa awards this year. First one for music moment of the year of @harrystyles. Feel free to vote. Link in story. More soon.
This photo was taken at Harry’s headlining Coachella set- weekend 1. Harry’s first time playing a festival and my 5th Coachella. This was a few weeks after “as it was” was released so there was alot of buzz around his set. I'd toured with Harry before but we were playing arenas to 18,000~ a night, but Coachella is a behemoth at around 125,000 people attending. So in Coachella tradition I ate a few mushrooms before the set, which I'm still not sure if it was a good or bad idea hahaha. Being on stage this time was definitely a little overwhelming but once the intro to Kiwi started I went into tunnel vision and knew exactly where I wanted to be for the exact part of his set. I love this photo because it felt like he had something to prove at that moment and he fucking proved it.

Do you think you could do headcanons for the Papas and a reader who has their own band?
Aaaaa this gave me memories of when I used to write band fics 10 years ago and I felt such a wonderful sense of nostalgia bc of it so tysm for this request!!!
𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐨
Primo loves that you also have a band!!
Even though he's retired now, he likes to have little writing sessions with you where you both write song lyrics
He attends as many shows as he can
Unfortunately with his age and his body being a little more frail than he'd like he can't attend every single show
Sometimes he'll sit in on your band's practice sessions and will simply watch and listen
He doesn't give any opinions or feedback unless you ask him to as he doesn't want to overstep
If you ever dedicate a song to him during a performance, get ready for a very emotional Primo afterwards
He buys all your albums, both on CD and vinyl, as well as t-shirts and merch for the siblings at the abbey so that they can support you too
𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐨
There's a little bit of playful rivalry between the two of you
This was especially prevalent when he was Papa
It was never a serious rivalry. It was a silly but fun one that pushed the two of you to be the best you could be
Now that he's no longer Papa, Secondo will frequently attend your shows
Absolutely will pay extra to buy VIP tickets so that he can meet you backstage rather than using his influence to get what he wants
Wants to feature on one of your songs but he also doesn't want you to feel like he's trying to insert himself in your professional life
Anyone who tries to say that your band is only successful because of your association with Ghost will live to regret those words
Incredibly proud of you and everything you do. He's even got a few framed posters of your band in his room (though he'll never admit that to anyone other than you)
𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐳𝐨
Probably met you and your band at an awards ceremony
Definitely became one of your biggest fans after he looked up your music and videos of your performances and live shows
Frequently wears your brand's merch around the abbey when he doesn't have to be dressed all smart and formal
Offers for Special to go on the road with you to act as like a spokesperson for your band like he was for Ghost before Terzo got removed from his position as Papa
You should probably expect to find him waiting for you in your hotel room after shows he attends because he always wants to congratulate you in person as himself, not with the makeup and the costumes and the persona he puts on for everyone else
Now that he's no longer Papa, he has more time to attend any awards shows with you or events you get invited to e.g. movie premieres
And let me tell you, the cameras and the paparazzi eat the two of you up every time you attend an event together
However, Terzo makes it very clear to anyone and everyone who'll listen that your success and fame is all because of the hard work you and your band put in and nothing to do with him or Ghost
𝐂𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐚
You know how we're all simps for Copia and would die for him? (Work with me here if you don't feel this way)
Well that's Copia with you and your band
He doesn't write fics or make fan art because honestly he doesn't have the confidence in himself or his skills to do it
But he loves to see all the fan art that people post online of your band
Will send you links to some of his favourites because as Papa he knows how much that can boost your confidence and reassure you that your fans love you, no matter what pissy little haters hiding behind their keyboards may say
Will hum or quietly sing your band's songs while he works, even if you're in the room with him
Puts you in touch with the costume designers and stylists for the band any time your band has photoshoots or big events
Like Terzo, he will attend events with you but he prefers to let you have the spotlight. He already gets so much attention as Papa, he wants you to have your moment to shine and bask in your achievements
𝐍𝐢𝐡𝐢𝐥
I'll be honest, he gets a little jealous at first
Things didn't work out when he was the frontman of Ghost so of course he becomes envious of you and your band's success
This manifests itself a little as him being kinda snarky at first
But after a while the jealousy stops and he turns his shit around to become more supportive of you
Now he's a big supporter!!
Admires how your band have been able to be so successful where he failed in his youth
Doesn't attend shows due to his age, but he will meet you backstage at the ones closest to him to wish you luck and congratulate you before and after shows
Has vinyls of your albums in his office to listen to when he's alone

Ok first chapter thoughts:
I think it’s genius to have Angel’s first chapter before Jimmy’s because you get to see the idolized, famous, iconic Ark thorough the fan’s lense before you get to see Jimmy trying not to have a panic attack in the car before an award show. I don’t think it would’ve had the same effect the other way round with seeing Jimmy and reading his internal monologue and then seeing Angel idolize him. Also I really like how the first chapter ends “I lean over her shoulder and look at the photo. There they are. Our boys. The Ark. Blurry, pixelated smudges, half blocked by huge bodyguards in dark suits. Rowan is leading them, Jimmy in the middle, Lister behind. They seem connected. Like the Beatles on Abbey Road, or a group of toddlers holding hands in a preschool trip to the park.” And I am going to pick that apart a bit cause I adore analyzing stuff. Firstly, I think the first sighting of The Ark in the entire book being a horribly blurry picture probably taken off someone’s phone in an excited frenzy says a lot about how no one sees The Ark as who they are, and only see them as these gods, to use Rowan’s own words. I’d also like to say that I know they always stand Rowan, Jimmy, Lister, but the way that it’s phrased even in the first chapter in Angel’s perspective there’s a slight distance but between Rowan-and-Jimmy, and Lister in the phrasing. Rowan is leading, Jimmy is in the middle. And Lister is behind. Also first of many Beatles references.

Paul and Linda, a collection of PDAs: Part 2 - Hugs
For the romantics out there, we have some more of Paul and Linda, a love affair that fascinates because it seems to be everybody’s dream.
In the October 1992 issue of Vanity Fair, in an article titled “Moll of Kintyre,” Zoe Heller observes Paul’s visit during an interview with Linda.
Then he wanders over to the sofa and begins touching her - stroking her arm, massaging her neck, and, at one point, sitting down and putting his arm around her shoulder. It's as if, quite literally, he can't keep his hands off her.
Watching the two of them banter, one is struck by how genuinely interested in each other's responses they seem to be - how entertained by each other's company. On each of Paul's subsequent exits and entrances, Linda stops what she is saying in order to swap ootsie-tootsie endearments with him.
… [N]umerous friends and colleagues attest that is standard behavior. "Yeah - holding hands, lots of private jokes, giggly little conferences - that's them," Paul De Noyer, editor of the British rock journal Q Magazine, confirms. "You have to concede that it's touching."
"If the phrase means anything anymore," Brian Clarke says, "I think they are in love."

How beautiful is this embrace? Nice to see a married couple being openly affectionate like it’s the most natural thing in the world (although I have wondered what role pot played in removing any inhibitions 😆 — but you can see the romance was still the foundation).
Not a fan of the mustache and soul patch on Paul. It just doesn’t suit a cute “baby face,” and it makes him look like a shady character imo. I guess I’ll just have to pretend the facial hair isn’t there whenever I look at this photo. 😎

Lovely, despite the 1970s hair choices 😁 (but Linda’s mullet is less pronounced in the first 3 photos, which is a plus).
That ‘s not all the hugs. They continue in Paul and Linda, a collection of PDAs: Part 2 - More Hugs.

In the Footsteps of a Saint
Tumblr media
FAITH TODAY:MAY 2011
Catholic actor Charlie Cox is making waves across the Atlantic – and he’s about to hit the cinemas in his native UK playing a saint in a new movie.
FAITH TODAY went to meet him.
How does it feel to be a saint?  That’s something no-one alive can ever really know, since sainthood is only acknowledged after death: but up-and-coming actor Charlie Cox knows more about it than most. Cox, 28, is the star of There Be Dragons, a new movie about the early life of St Josemaria Escriva, the Spaniard who founded Opus Dei.  So – given that he’s a Catholic himself - how did it feel to Cox to walk in a saint’s shoes, and to portray his holiness on screen?
What struck him most, says Cox, is that ‘there seemed to have been no single moment when Josemaria was saintly... instead, what people who knew him spoke about and wrote about was a lifetime of consistently good decisions and a dedication of his entire life to God’.  So in fact, he explains, portraying him meant being very human – and yet aware that decisions often had to be made that weren’t directed at other people, but were directed at God. Playing Josemaria is the latest step on a path that’s fast feeling like the road to the big-time: Cox first appeared on the showbiz radar in 2007 when he got the role of Tristan Thorne in the movie Stardust, and he went on to play the Duke of Crowborough in the ITV drama Downton Abbey.  And just a fortnight before we meet, he’s filmed his first episode of HBO’s prohibition drama Boardwalk Empire, the flagship programme of the new Sky Atlantic channel, in which he plays an immigrant from Northern Ireland with ties to the IRA.  Cox says he’s loving the part: Steve Buscemi, who recently won a Gold Globe award for his portrayal of Enoch ‘Nucky’ Thompson in the series, is one of his all-time heroes, and he can hardly believe his luck in being cast with him.
’Working with Steve feels amazing, I can’t believe how lucky I’ve been,’ he says, as we chat over coffee at a Madrid hotel on the morning of the premiere of There Be Dragons.  He jetted in this morning from New York – he’ll be there filming Boardwalk Empire through the summer and, he says, he can’t imagine a better way of spending the next few months. ‘They’re the nicest bunch of people – and everyone is so confident about how good the series is, so there’s a great buzz about it.’
Working on Boardwalk Empire has taken him a long way from his Sussex roots.  He grew up in Hearst Green, the son of publisher parents – and he was raised a Catholic, like his father, although he was educated at a non-Catholic independent school, Sherborne School in Dorset.  ‘Only about 70 out of 700 boys were Catholics. We had to get up early on a Sunday to go to Mass at a local girls’ school... it would have been easy to skive off it, but actually we never did.  I’ve always loved churches – even now, in a strange city, I’ll often wander around looking at churches.’ There was no history of acting in the family – bar a grandmother who had been at RADA before the second world war – but even as a youngster, Cox was smitten with the idea.  ‘My mum and dad had a fantastic attitude to it,’ he says.  ‘The school wanted me to go to university, play it in safe mode, have a back-up plan.  But my parents came to see me act, and afterwards my dad sat me down and he said: ‘I think you’d be a fool not to pursue this’.  And I don’t know whether I’d be here now if it hadn’t been for that one comment...’ Despite living in the US at the moment, and the fact that his parents spend most of their time these days in France, Cox says Britain will always be home – and he’s very close to his family.  He has a brother, and three half siblings from his father’s first marriage, and his parents have flown to see him in Madrid while he’s over for the premiere of There Be Dragons. After school, he spent a gap year working for a photographer – and even before he could take up a place at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, he’d landed the role of Theo in the movie Dot the i.  ‘An agent took a punt on me and put me up for the part,’ he says.  ‘I’ve been incredibly lucky, and that was just one of my lucky breaks.’
But it’s not just luck – Cox is immensely likeable, and he’s obviously genuinely passionate about acting.  He’s also been smart enough to realise that he can learn a huge amount from more seasoned actors – so he saw acting alongside Robert de Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer in Stardust, for example, as a fantastic opportunity to soak up knowledge.  And he’s learnt lots more, too, from Roland Joffe, director of There Be Dragons, who was also the film-maker behind The Mission (about the early Jesuits in south America) and The Killing Fields (about the murderous Pol Pot regime in Cambodia), both of which were Oscar nominees.
‘I didn’t think twice about taking the part of Josemaria, and that was down to Roland,’ he says.  ‘He’s such a great director – he really understands the processes that actors have to go through to give their best.  I learnt so much from working with him.’
Given the subject-matter of There Be Dragons, Cox also spent time in the run-up to filming learning about Opus Dei, which has the status of a ‘personal prelature’ within the Catholic Church.  ‘I visited several Opus Dei houses, and I went on a retreat and had a lot of help from an Opus Dei priest, Fr John Wauck.’
Before he made the film, he admits, he’d never heard of Josemaria – and all he knew about Opus Dei was what he’d read in Dan Brown’s book The Da Vinci Code.  But researching Josemaria, he says, what struck him most was the saint’s humanity – and his ability, examined in the film, to forgive.  ‘It was an example I had to put into practice, because one day when we were filming I returned to my trailer to find someone had broken in and cleaned the place out completely,’ he says.  ‘They’d even taken my computer, and the charger, and even my clothes.’ ‘The following day I was due to film one of the big scenes in which Josemaria shows how he can forgive, and I remember thinking: this is really interesting.  And the thing is that I did manage to forgive the guy who nicked my stuff.’ ‘And what I realised, through that incident, was that – though we think of forgiveness as something very moral and impressive, it’s actually something that works totally in your own favour.  Because if you don’t forgive then you’re angry inside – and that anger doesn’t hurt the other person, but it really hurts you.’ Since filming finished for There Be Dragons, Cox has been working on another movie – Moby Dick, due to be released later this year – and now Boardwalk Empire.  It all suggests, I tell him, that fame – which he’s told previous interviewers frightens him – could be beckoning. ‘It’s tricky,’ he says, candidly.  ‘I’ve got friends who have gone on to extraordinary fame, and what I’ve realised through them is that it’s never quite as appealing as it promised to be. ‘On the other hand, like everyone else I want recognition.  I like people to think I’m good at what I do. That’s human nature, isn’t it?’

Jack Lowden's new role in BBC crime drama The Gold.
The Scottish actor and BAFTA award winner, plays gangster Kenneth Noye in the four-part series, alongside Downton Abbey's Hugh Bonneville in the new BBC drama series which debuts on Sunday, February 12, is a dramatisation of the notorious Brink’s-Mat robbery, which happened in 1983. The robbery saw a gang of thieves escape with £26 million worth of gold bullion, diamonds and cash.
In the series, Lowden plays gangster Kenneth Noye, who was tasked with disposing of the gold bullion by melting it down and was later convicted of a murder he committed in a road rage incident in 1996. Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville, meanwhile, plays Scotland Yard detective Brian Boyce, who led the investigation into the robbery.
Jack Lowden started in theatre 🎭 and in 2012-13, played sprinter Eric Liddell in the stage adaptation of Chariots of Fire. The following year, he played Oswald in Ibsen’s Ghosts, adapted by Richard Eyre, winning an Olivier Award and the Ian Charleson Award.

More recently, he played poet Siegfried Sassoon alongside Peter Capaldi in Terence Davies’ 2021 biopic Benediction, winning a BAFTA for best male actor in a film 🎥

HAPPY 2024 + MONDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO  “Turn Your Back On the Wind” by The Fourmyula  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuX_5thg3m0 Winding back to 1969-70, Chris Andrews was working with The Fourmyula, a band from New Zealand who’d been recording at Abbey Road next door to The Beatles—musically simpatico with The Fourmyula’s harmony-driven psychedelic pop that became heavier as the band progressed. In 1968 they’d had a string of hits unmatched by any other band from NZ. Back then, NZ bands relied on doing covers of overseas songs, but The Fourmyula insisted on recording their own material. Their song “Nature,” composed by pianist/guitarist Wayne Mason, became a #1 international hit, won several awards, and went on to be covered by numerous artists over the years. It can be said they set the stage for later NZ successes like Crowded House, Neil Finn, and Split Enz.  “Turn Your Back On the Wind” was the title song of a Fourmyula album produced by Chris. In 1971 the band broke up and went home (excepting drummer Chris Parry stayed in the UK, went into A&R and production, and later launched The Cure and The Jam). Meanwhile, as musical heroes in their homeland, The Fourmyula reformed with Mason in 2010 on the heels of a CD box set celebrating their excellent recordings. “Turn Your Back on the Wind” is still getting plays. On a cosmic jukebox it goes between early Bee Gees and Marmalade... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuX_5thg3m0

The actress Mary Ure was born on February 18th 1933 in Glasgow.
Born Eileen Mary Ure, she was educated at the city’s Laurel Bank School. She then went to the independent Mount School in York, and early in her school career showed an aptitude for the theatre.
At the age of 16, on the recommendation of the headmistress of Mount School, Ure was chosen to play the Virgin Mary in a revival of the Cycle of Mystery Plays, which date from the Middle Ages. They were presented in York as part of the Festival of Britain in 1951. If you ever get the chance go see them, they are performed at York Museum Gardens, with the backdrop of the 11th century St Mary’s Abbey in the city, the next performance is in 2022, I saw them in September 1978 when I was a mere 13!
Anyway after her performance the producers, impressed with her talent, arranged for Miss Ure to study at London’s Central School of Speech Training and Dramatic Art, where she stayed three years.
Ure’s professional stage debut came in 1954 in Manchester and that same year she was seen on a London stage for the first time as the star of Jean Anouilh’s “Time Remembered.” Shakespearean roles as Ophelia to Paul Scofield’s Hamlet in 1955 and Desdemona and Titania followed.
In 1956 she was cast in Look Back In Anger, a pivotal play of the 1950s, and transferred with the play to Broadway, where she received a Tony award nomination. In 1959 she appeared in the film version, opposite Richard Burton. She married the writer of Look Back In Anger, John Osborne, after having begun an affair with him during rehearsals for the play. In 1959 she began an affair with the actor Robert Shaw, and married him in 1963. In between some great theatrical performances she appeared in three films with Shaw. It wasn’t until 1968 that she landed a role in a film that was a huge hit, appearing once more with Richard Burton in Where Eagles Dare.
Her last film role was in 1973. By that time she was struggling with alcoholism and marital problems. In 1975, after the opening night of a new London play, she overdosed on alcohol and sleeping pills (It’s not known whether this was deliberate). Her death was listed as an accidental overdose of whisky and tranquillisers or suicide. She was but 42 and left behind 6 children. Contrary to popular belief she is not buried in the cemetery on London Road, Coventry. Her actual burial is unknown - probably kept private by the family.
Ure was only the second Scottish actress to be nominated for an Oscar after Deborah Kerr for her role in the 1960 film Sons and Lovers. I think it’s a shame she is largely forgotten, or overlooked nowadays, possibly due to her tragic death at a  young age.

the last album of these greats
"Pearl," Janis Joplin (1971)
Joplin burned out well before her time, but what she left in the wake of her October 1970 death at age 27 is obviously still widely celebrated today. Pearl was her second solo album, and released three months after she died. The record spent nine weeks atop the Billboard 200, and has earned quadruple-platinum status over the decades. Though there are plenty of special moments that showcase Joplin's talent that was never truly fulfilled, the Kris Kristofferson-co-penned "Me and Bobby McGee" and stripped down, unequivocally raw a cappella favorite "Mercedes Benz" remain the highlights.

"Let It Be," The Beatles (1970)
Let It Be was released nearly a month after the Beatles announced their break-up. The recording on the record actually began prior to that of the more-celebrated Abbey Road, which was released one month before Let It Be — when the four were still an official band. Though critics had issues with this album upon release, it was still a chart-topper around the world, thanks to the likes of the famed title track, "Get Back," "The Long and Winding Road" and "Across the Universe." The album was released along with a documentary of the same name, chronicling rehearsals and the recording of the record

"Bridge over Troubled Water," Simon & Garfunkel (1970)
In January 1970, the duo of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel released this classic record. By the time the year ended, Simon and Garfunkel had called it a career. What was left to savor was their fifth and final studio release. Continuing their journey down a road away from their folk roots, Bridge over Troubled Water won two Grammy Awards and the record topped the charts in several countries. The legendary title cut was a four-time Grammy winner, while "The Boxer" and "Cecilia," have enjoyed iconic status, as well. Long lauded as one of the greatest albums of all time, this might be the epitome of going out in style.

Oh noooo, as much as I would love to see Taemin and Jimin interacting and doing stuff at the same time, we all know that it'll end up with armys shitting on Taemin the way they do every time they so much as exist in the same space. Taem literally just had to say he liked dynamite that one time to set them off.  I can only imagine what it would be like if they were "competing" against each other in music shows or album sales(I say this knowing there'd be no competition at all, and we'd get Armys calling him an old flop even more than before)
I just don't want that for him. I don't want him dealing with fans of his friends shitting on him for no reason and him just accepting it cause he loves his friends.
If the fans could keep from being demons it would be epic though. 😭
Omg when did he say he liked Dynamite?! I'm lolling so hard right now.

No but seriously - do you really think someone like Taemin cares what BTS fans think of him? This is the idol of idols - a man whose solo career is the reason so many people have been given a shot at going solo. He's hugely influential. He's from SHINee who performed at Abbey Road Studios in London and SuperM who were the first kpop act to play Madison Square Garden. This is also a man who has been through some really tough shit in life. He's not gonna read a 12 year old calling him a flop in English on twitter and cry.
He would love promoting alongside Jimin. I doubt he'd care about who won because if either of them won he'd love that. SHINee have never been about collecting awards - they're in it for the art. I think sometimes, as awful as army can be, we need a reality check that kids on Twitter trending dumb shit is not reality. I don't mean this to sound harsh to you Anon because I understand where you're coming from but let's remember we're above that and that we should want nice, real life things for our fav artists (doesn't mean we can't complain when the cadets get stupid tho 🤭).
