Currently re-watching the fosters and I have some opinions. Please bare in mind i’m mid season 2 of rewatch and going based of memory from first watch well the show was airing. My opinions can and will change as I continue i'm sure.
First - Callie can and is very selfish throughout the show. One thing that I will always find so selfish and shows just how selfish she can be is running away the night of the wedding. I know she is selfish with brandon but to runaway after being told they want to adopt you and then run on the wedding night.
Second - They dropped the ball with Callie and Stef's relationship. In the first season you can see how much Stef loves Callie and wants better and more for her. In later seasons we don’t see much build on this. the dynamic is still there at certain points but I feel they could have done way more than what they did. I could go so in depth on this from the way Stef looked at her in the courtroom with liam to crying after she ran and even just the way stef spoke about her to others!
Third - Why is there like no development for Callie and Jesus. I don't recall any major moments for these characters almost as if they never interact. Another dropped ball maybe even never picked up.
Fifth - Why do I always see they could have cast Callie and Brandon as twin siblings then lovers... I just find they look alike and if i was a girl at the group home when Callie ran to him if i didn't know the age of the brother I would probably think he was her brother...
Fourth - Calie makes faces like bella swan...
Lexi - I feel she is the definition of a character to move the plot forward. She screamed filler character to me when I first watched and she still screaming it now. They could have done more but I still enjoyed her short lived storylines.
Wyatt - My boy was played and dissed so bad by the fosters so bad. I say this because more often then not he was used by Callie and then i know there was some build with Marianna but she used him as well in a way even if she had true feelings at one point. Also episode where Callie runs off with him and they talk time travel love it considering the actor later plays in the Travelers later! He was so holsome in this show. He just wanted to do what he could for her. I feel at parts you can tell how much he loved Callie even though she didn't have the same feelings. THEM LOCKS OF HAIR THO!!!! (season one) I know from what i remember in later season as i said above he gets with Mariana but i'm not gonna comment much more on him till i get to that storyline.
Sorry for spelling or grammatical errors.

THE PERMANENT RAIN PRESS INTERVIEW WITH CATHERINE LOUGH HAGGQUIST
Tumblr media
Catherine Lough Haggquist is a seasoned veteran in the film industry, with experience far beyond the reach of the silver screen. She is an entrepreneur – the owner of two businesses offering education and resources to creatives – and an advocate for the industry at large. Her passion is reflected in her work and dedication to her craft.
You star as Petra Bellweather in Motherland: Fort Salem, now airing its final season. What can you share about Petra’s story as the season progresses?
At the end of last season, we see Petra experience a really bad first few days on the job. Things seem like they have hit rock bottom for her and could not possibly get any worse. And then they do. And do. And do some more.
Petra is being tested on every front this season, as a mother, as a leader, as a political force, and as an individual. She moves from moment to moment and episode to episode simply trying to make the “next right decision” all while trying to sort out which of the many competing interests and responsibilities needs to be prioritized in that moment. I remember approaching each new script with a sense of tense anticipation about what Petra would be put through next. It was a wild ride for me as an actor and I hope an exciting one for the audience.
Tell me about working opposite Ashley Nicole Williams as your on-screen daughter, Abigail. Have you enjoyed the changing dynamics of their relationship?
I remember the first day I met Ashley! I was walking through the production office, excited and a bit nervous about what lay ahead and I saw this tall, beautiful young woman sitting at a conference table. As I approached, unsure of where I was going, she looked up from what she was reading, fixed her gaze on me, broke into a big grin and exclaimed “You must be my Mom! Hi! I’m Ashley!”
I smiled back and that was it. We were bonded. It has been a delight to watch her mature and grow both as a woman and as an actor. I think our dynamic on screen is based on the affection and respect we have for each other off-screen and I am grateful that our relationship was written with challenges but always love and connection. I have also enjoyed seeing how close Ashley and the other young women on the show have become. In a business that often encourages unhealthy competition between actors, it has been a joy to see (and experience) the bonds and friendships that have been formed on this show. I look forward to keeping in touch with Ashley and she knows she always has an extra back-up mom whenever she needs me.
Tumblr media
What has this character taught you about yourself, as both an artist and human?
Petra taught me a lot about strategy, clarity, power and patience. But even more than those elements, I think the most important quality of Petra’s is that is an example of what I believe Dr. Maya Angelou was speaking to with her quote “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”
Often characters with power, especially women with power, aren’t given the grace to evolve and change with understanding or new information. They remain locked in the beliefs that they perceive to be directly linked to their strength and success. That Petra evolved over the 3 seasons and was not diminished in that evolution (as so often happens in film & TV), but had her new knowledge enhance the work she had done prior making her even more effective is, I think, a very meaningful example both for us to share with the audience but also for me personally.
The series has been ground-breaking in how it empowers female voices and their strength, while building an inclusive world. You’ve discussed how the power of Black women is celebrated in the show. What legacy do you hope it leaves in film and TV?
I think that the main legacy of the representation of Black women’s strength, leadership, intellect and power in Motherland: Fort Salem will be questions like this, in forums like this, which draw the lens of reflection and amplification to the contributions Black women make and have ALWAYS made to society, and in specific, American and Canadian society.
Black women have long been woven into the fabric of the work and fights for social justice. Now, increasingly, we are being seen and recognized for our contributions to and excellence in many other arenas and Motherland: Fort Salem assists in normalizing these contributions as the become acknowledged, appreciated and expected.
Tumblr media
What message do you have for the passionate fans who have championed these characters over the past few years?
Thank you!
Thank you for recognizing and appreciating the intricacy of the storytelling, and the diversity of the characters. I think the allegorical nature of Motherland: Fort Salem and how it interpreted through this fictional lens so many of the challenges facing the world right now, combined with the representation of so many layered and interesting individuals navigating this world generated the following that has been so embracing of us and our work.
Seeing how many people personally identified with different characters was another lesson in how much representation matters when it comes to who we see on our screens.
I truly believe that it was because the fans returned so much love and enthusiasm to us that allowed for us to be given the gift of bringing the series to a meaningful conclusion. And so I thank the fans for that opportunity too.
You’ve also appeared as a guest on a number of fan-based podcasts to discuss the show and your story. How special has it been to discuss theories, and speak to others who have supported the show since the beginning (and maybe know the characters better than the cast themselves)?
Unlike theatre, where you receive immediate feedback from and have interaction with your audience, film and television production takes place far away in both location and time from where and when the audience watches. As such, the opportunities to interact with the people who are watching is much more limited.
Social media – in particular Twitter and Instagram – have been wonderful ways to connect with the folks who are as captivated by and invested in the world of Motherland: Fort Salem as those of us bringing that world to life. Seeing their theories, fan art, appreciation posts, edited montages... all of it has been super fun and is received gratefully and humbly. And to get to meet and interact with so many of them through social media, their podcasts and Discord groups has been awesome. On top of all of that, the campaign that the fans launched to save the show was incredible. To know people are willing to go to that level of expense and effort in support of your work is truly a wonderful feeling.
Do you have a favourite behind the scenes memory from the set of Motherland?
One of my favourite elements of the promotion of each new season has been the release of our “blooper reels”. It is fun to be reminded with the footage of how much laughter we shared and how much we all enjoyed working with each other. So I would say my favourite memories are also connected to what I will miss most now that we are done, laughing with my friends and enjoying each other’s company.
Do you have any upcoming projects you can share with us?
I just finished working on an independent feature film and while the details are still being kept quite under wraps, it was an extremely fun experience and I look forward to when I can share more information about it.
That said, I can say that it was both a very different world from Motherland: Fort Salem and a very different character from Petra so it was nice to move from being sad about the end of Motherland into creating a new story with another wonderful group of people.
You also have a passion for educating and community building through the arts. Tell me about Biz Books and The Drama Class, and the importance of these platforms to you and your work.
We started Biz Books in 1996 as a brick and mortar bookstore in Vancouver’s Gastown district. We moved to our second location in 2001 and we operated in that neighbourhood until 2010 when we transitioned the storefront to BizBooks.net and our current “Online and On Location” format where we now serve customers all over the world and create pop-up shops at local industry and educational events.
In 2020 when acting classes migrated to the internet due to the pandemic, we discovered that there was much to be explored in the online training space. In September 2020 we acquired TheDramaClass.com where we now develop classes, workshops and coaching plans to assist actors, writers, directors and teachers to develop skills and knowledge to help them achieve their creative professional goals.
Tumblr media
If you had to pick one, what is your personal favourite book for actors looking for inspiration and to bring their career to a new level?
It may surprise you but the book that I think is essential for actors and other independent creative freelancers to read to level up their careers is “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. A dear friend gave it to me as a Christmas gift and it has proven to be a game changer for me.
As I work to be more intentional with the habits, patterns and systems I am creating, I also become more aware or the progress I am making daily which is so vital to recognize, especially with the ebb and flow of gigs. Focusing on maintaining the habits and behaviours of the person I am working to become, and narrowing the focus to being 1% better everyday, makes it possible to keep going when times are tough and to get back into a routine after the whirlwind of things going well.
In a business that can sometimes feel like everyone else holds the power, it is nice to have a guide to establishing and maintaining personal agency and accountability for the results we are seeking.
You’ve been a mainstay in Hollywood North for the past 30 years now, and have amassed a rich resumé of projects in British Columbia (in addition to many talented friends). What does it mean to be a part of the BC film industry, and noticing its growth and changes over the years, notably in female-led projects?
I have been proud to be a part of the BC film industry and to know that I have contributed to the efforts of so many in growing the business here. The community of artists and technicians based here are world class and second to none. Helping to promote them and their achievements through my union, board and committee work makes the heights that we have attained together so very satisfying. And to have the ability to stay here, close to friends and family, while still pursuing my artistic and career goals as an actor, makes me feel truly blessed indeed.
The advancement of women in both profile and leadership has been undeniable. When I started, female producers were few and female directors were rarer still. Seeing the expansion in the diversity (race, gender, orientation and more) of creative leaders, benefits us all as we tell stories from the context of our experiences and amplify what we see through that lens. The more variety we have in the visions being shared, the more enriched, inspired and empathetic we become. All while still being excited and entertained!
What are some of your favourite places to visit and/or eat at in Vancouver?
I am a HUGE sushi fan so I have a mental list of faves arranged by neighbourhood and price point! Shiro Sushi, Tojos, Minami, Manna Sushi, Yanaki Sushi are on my Vancouver list and I also really like Taka’s Sushi in White Rock and Sushi Mori in South Surrey.
Other favourite spots in Vancouver are Burgoo, Les Faux Bourgeois, and The Patty Shop. And closer to my home in White Rock, Kiki’s Greek Restaurant, Three Dogs Brewing, Pho 777 Vietnamese and the Wooden Spoon are my local haunts.
Our signature question – if you could be any ice cream flavour, which would you be and why?
I think I would be Butter Pecan. A unique flavour that is not too overwhelming and that is smooth most of the time but also little nutty. Kind of sums me up, I think.

Hi people, I'm a bit fed up rn so just a short reminder that authors can see what you write in your bookmarks on AO3
And like I've recently been struggling with writing more than usual and had a bit of a dry-up in comments (which happens, fair enough, you don't have to like my fics enough to comment, etc) so I looked into the stats and bookmarks to cheer myself up/fight the imposter syndrome and had just been met with two separate users using their bookmark notes to not only rant about how horrible and not up to their standard my fic was, but also, in one case, to make some 'subtle' transphobic remarks about me, the author.
Both users are now blocked on my AO3 but if you're using bookmarks to rank your fics and didn't like something, please at least have the decency to make it a private bookmark if you're ranting about someone's writing skills or plot or just plain calling their fic stupid and bad
I've seen users putting fics (mine and other's) in bookmark collections called 'absolutely nope' or '0/10' or whatever, which is not nice but tolerable but recently I think people are getting a little too comfortable about being negative in a space that never asked them to be
Like most people, I write fic either for fun or as a form of self-indulgent expression and I share it because I think someone might also enjoy it or appreciate it. So many authors struggle with motivation as it is and I'm not an exception - yes, I write fics for myself primarily but I wouldn't be posting or writing them down if it was just for me, they could just stay as daydreams in my head and spare me the frustration the writing process and notes like the ones I've just mentioned bring.
To put it shortly, please remember AO3 authors can see your bookmarks and the notes/collections you use (unless you make them private) and that AO3 authors are human beings not souless content creators

Several Sentence Sunday
Let's pretend this is WIP I've introduced and didn't start yesterday, okay? Okay.
Tagged for Inspiration Saturday by @disasterbuckdiaz @spotsandsocks @tizniz and @fortheloveofbuddie (count this as your Sunday tag chaps).
Eddie shifts the truck into park, and turns to face Buck, noticing the way his husband doesn’t meet his eye when he looks at him. Buck’s twisting his fingers, methodically rubbing his thumbs over the pads of each finger in sequence, a strategy Eddie knows he uses to ground himself. “Buck,” Eddie says, hooking a finger under his chin so they’re looking into each other’s eyes. “What’s your safeword?” “W-what?” Buck stammers, his eyebrows knitting together. Usually, before they scene, Eddie checks his colour, makes sure Buck is okay with everything that’s about to happen, and that’s enough. But today, Eddie can tell Buck isn’t in the right headspace to just plough on through. He needs to be taken care of. “You safeword, amor,” Eddie repeats, stroking his thumb over the apple of Buck’s cheek. Buck swallows, his throat clicking audibly, and he leans into Eddie’s hand. “Red,” he replies, his voice soft, as though he’s already slipping a little into that quiet, soft space where he goes when he feels safe. “And if you can’t talk?” Eddie asks. He doesn’t want to let anything to chance, not today when he can tell Buck needs this so badly. Badly enough that he’s been acting like a little shit since he left Bobby’s office. “One tap for good, two taps for pause, three taps to stop completely,” Buck recites diligently. “But why – I mean – Bobby already –“ “Bobby dealt with you his way. Now it’s my turn to discipline you my way. The way you need.” He eyes Buck thoughtfully, a little worried about how in his head Buck already seems to be. “What’s your colour, sweetheart?” “G-green, sir,” Buck replies without hesitation, and Eddie smiles, scratching Buck’s head with his blunt nails. “Good boy, thank you for telling me.” Eddie shuts off the engine and climbs out of the truck, circling around to open Buck’s door for him when he notices the blond still sitting there, his expression tight, as though he’s in pain. “Come on, out of the car,” he instructs, noting with satisfaction that Buck instantly does as he’s told, sliding off the seat and hitting the gravel of the driveway with a crunch. “Now, go wait for me in the lounge. I want you on your knees. I’m going to go grab something first and then I’ll meet you in there, okay?” Buck obediently follows Eddie into the house, listing heavily against Eddie’s form as he unlocks the door. Eddie takes Buck’s hand and leads him into the lounge, pressing a gentle kiss to his temple as he pulls away. “I’ll be back in a second. On your knees.” Eddie turns before he gives Buck the chance to obey and strides down the hallway to their bedroom, where he rummages through the closet until he finds the old, unsuspecting cardboard box at the back. He carefully extracts the long, black riding crop, and passes it through his hands, admiring the sleek handle and the small, black leather tongue at the end, with the red trimming that always looks so beautiful against Buck’s skin. Yeah, that’ll do nicely, he thinks.

Buck tells Tommy that the night in the helicopter was, "the most fun I'd had since being struck by lightning."
To which Tommy replies, "you need to raise your bar, kid."
Buck then tells him he's just using that as a "point of reference."
Interesting that getting struck by lightning causes sparks, and what do we feel when we meet someone and like them immediately?? You know... sparks.
.... I'll just leave this here.

I did a thing...
Mr Edmundo Diaz has just moved to London from the Americas, and you can count on his adorable son Christopher to make friends immediately. If only said new friend wasn't a giant blonde with dazzling blue eyes and a heart big enough to fill the void in his own chest...
.
Need a little levity in these trying times?
This is my Regency!AU for 9-1-1. Yeah, because it fit too well not to play with it.
Updates will be biweekly, depending on the state of my heart on Friday morning. XD

Today’s realization:
As much as I’m enjoying Buck with Tommy at the moment, I don’t want them as endgame. It doesn’t have to be Eddie either, because as much as I do think Eddie also being queer makes sense, I don’t see it happening no matter how known ABC is for pairing up lead characters.
Point is, I want Buck with someone Oliver has more chemistry with. He has some with Lou, but it feels firmly rooted in platonic, and is not enough to overshadow Buddie, which I think is the problem. At least for me. Add that into them not really writing BuckTommy as anything more than Buck’s bisexual awakening arc, it’s not pulling me in any further than, “I like Tommy because he’s not a bad character.” Outside of that though? There’s nothing really there yet, which s8 will hopefully rectify, but chemistry is also so important, so I think they need to do a chemistry read with Oliver and a new boo, and try again.
Lou is nice and I don’t want to see him go, but after the short af scene of Buck throwing popcorn at Eddie and it having oodles of domestic cuteness, I don’t see how BuckTommy continues down the line apart from us having to accept it because it’s canon. Buck shouldn’t have better tension with his straight friend than his boyfriend, especially when all the other locked in couples have great romantic tension. So I hope if they’re not going to do Buddie, they realize chemistry matters too.
I also know people are going to say they think they have chemistry, and that’s fine. I don’t think they don’t, and they’re nowhere near as flat as Ryan and Edy on screen, but idk. It’s not working for me, when I think Oliver is naturally charismatic and has romantic chemistry with people pretty easily. Say what y’all want, but I still think there was some between BuckAbby, BuckTaylor, and BuckNatalia even with the women mostly being written less complex.
At the same time, I also kinda think Tommy should be written more toward Lou’s strengths, which is clearly a little sillier and comedic relief-like. Tommy’s a tad bitchy and sarcastic, but idk! I want s8 to spunk him up a bit, make BuckTommy fun if they plan to keep them a couple for a while.

That funny moment when you were one of those people who were like buck noooo don't immediately fold for your parents make em work for it bb you deserve so much moore
But then it happens to you. And you're like oh. Oh. You were there when I was spat out. When I had more skin than shields around me. No matter how much or how little it was your hands that gave me my first taste of warmth. You were the ones I looked up to. It was you. I was blind to all your faults and now. Even if I can see them. I'll shut my eyes on purpose. I'll forgive all of it for just a taste of your love. I'll forgive all of it for just a hint of your pride. I'll forgive all of it if you could please forgive me. If you could please love me anyway.
And by funny I mean ouch

Semi-Quick Witch Tip: Can we please stop overdressing the damn candles?! I know they look pretty, but they are a serious fire hazard (coming from a firefighting witch). I'm here to explain how to do it, in the safest way possible. Firstly, never dress with more oil than needed. Essential oils and oils with specific intentions (money oil, come-to-me oil, protection, etc.) are what you're looking for, if you're learning how to do this. You can make your own - eventually, in time, I will share my recipes friends. Rub it into your fingertips, clap your fingers together a few times to activate the energy, and start rubbing the candle with it. Upwards to attrract/bring in, downwards to banish/bring away from you. Start with two to three drops and see where it gets you, because it usually is the perfect amount for tapers and chimes. Big pillar candles usually need four to six drops. If we're talking tealights, one to two drops is enough. If you've got a glass-encased 7-day candle, do one to two drops on the top and then as you light it each time, put another drop on so the candle is being dressed throughout the burn. Next step for any candle type: sprinkle your herbs onto the candle. Grind them in a mortar & pestle so you don't have large chunks, which isn't safe as they tend to create large flames or sometimes spark. Once they are nice and ground, sprinkle enough to where the candle is lightly coated with the herbs. Trust me, that is enough for your spell. Heavy coating is not necessary. And please, for the love of the gods, do not leave your candle unattended. Ever. I don't care if someone tells you that seven-day candle can't stop burning. Snuff it out and resume when you can be home and alert to your surroundings. Same goes for sleeping. Have I been to calls where candles are the cause of a house fire while someone is sleeping? Absolutely, it's a common cause of fires. Have people died or gotten seriously injured? Yep. It's not worth it. Trust me.
Crystals, whole flowers, charms, and large chunks of herbs should be taken out if you make or purchased a candle that has a lot going on. While these are beautiful, I find them to be better for decoration elsewhere, never to be burned, as you will need to carefully remove these objects by melting the wax first (take a lighter and carefully run over the top). Not to mention, I think the work of the witches that make them deserves to be displayed. Place them onto an altar or shrine dedicated to a deity, spirit, or daemon that you feel would enjoy it.
Please, please, PLEASE practice fire safety. Get yourself a fire extinguisher. Make sure it's not only full, but in date. If it isn't, it's time for a new one. If anyone has questions about how to use one, feel free to drop your comment below and I will answer :) Sand also helps, but know you may need to use a lot and regardless, keep an extinguisher ready. Type ABC is good for the general house since it is multipurpose, and a type K for the kitchen should be in that room as well.
Perhaps I'll do a fire safety post for witches in the future, that way y'all can hear it from a firefighter. In the meantime, please practice fire safety!
