Significantly for a book that excavates a history that has been received with shock and scandal to many of its readers, one of the most powerful senses that Ebony and Ivy conveys is the banality of slavery to the university and the social worlds that it was so crucial in maintaining. Colleges extended the normalizing reach of slavery, acclimating (and placing on equal footing) those students who arrived with no first-hand experience of slavery with those students whose lives were directly enmeshed with it, holding slaves in their person or family. Colleges also reproduced slavery to the extent that they served as pivotal sites in the production, legitimation, and dissemination of dominant ideas for emerging generations of the colonial elite. Study thereby became a vehicle for the enshrinement of emerging knowledges in the form of time-honored wisdom. he book’s final three chapters detail the practical operations by which the university’s accumulation and formalization of racial knowledge took shape in “the rise of scientific racism” (190). Academic institutions became the site of the alchemical transformation of highly biased and interested observers of African and Indigenous populations into legitimate knowledge: “Atlantic colleges took these myriad pieces of social information and forged ‘truths’ about human difference”.
Ebony and Ivy, in order to capture its subject, has to defamiliarize its reader with what the nature of a university is. In the colonial Americas, Wilder writes, “colleges were imperial instruments akin to armories and forts, a part of the colonial garrison with the specific responsibilities to train ministers and missionaries, convert indigenous peoples and soften cultural resistance, and extend European rule over foreign nations”. The communities and public trusts colleges served were social formations avowedly in step with the domination of Native nations; they too were specific articulations of the “public” that saw to it that slavery and racial formation operate not only to the well-being of individual owners, but to their collective benefit. Wilder’s study of the university employs a strategy that reads the university as an institution in the making. Colonial-era land grants and leases for colleges enabled their officials “to tap into the wealth being generated in the unfree agricultural economies”. Higher education in this context functioned as a key technology not only of the elaboration and extension of colonial rule in the Americas, but moreover in the construction of intercolonial relations between different settler outposts in the continental Americas and the Caribbean, as well as between the northern and southern English colonies. Entire institutions in the colonial North came to flourish by recruiting students from the plantation-owning elite in the South and the West Indies.
The division of university labor that took shape between the functions of the production of education and the reproduction of the immediate institutional conditions that made education possible corresponded to differential degrees of access to and expulsion from the category of the human. Wilder gets at the problem that the university itself must be socially reproduced even as it is positioned as a key instrument of social reproduction for capital and the nation-state. In so doing, his work allows us to glimpse a version of the university freed from the methodological injunction to view the institution in terms of continuous enlightenment and knowledge production in an abstract or distanced way. he focus on slavery does more than simply scandalize the historicity of the institution. Rather, it opens onto the question of what study itself leaves unthought— what are the social organizations of work and stratifications of humanity necessary to make the work of study possible? Of the many lessons that Ebony and Ivy teaches, one in particular is worth stressing within [Critical University Studies] at present: that there is no history of the university that is not also a history of capital accumulation and capital expropriation. The vaunted university systems of the United States did not simply import their structural models from Oxford and the great German state universities. Their mode of sustaining themselves was derived from and inventive of practices and structures of violence and captivity indissociable from the fact of their genesis as slaveholding settler institutions. Education is not reducible to simple instruction. It is a context constituted as much by students and instructors as it is by those who cleared furnace ashes and emptied chamber pots, by those whose communities were removed for campuses to take root, and by those whose bodies were used as the raw materials for scientific experimentation and discursive elaboration alike.

[ Duck, Duck, Go Goose! ]
There is a flapping noise heard as the horrible Abigail Goose is launched through the air. She manages to get herself situated and begins hunting for another victim. When she sees Rove Bogge playing a game of Root Beer Pong, she decides that him not running in terror from her was reason enough to strike down with deadly force. She screams, a loud honk that seems to echo off the walls, and begins flying towards the bug man. Even if he turns around then and there there’s no way to escape her wrathful wings.
To make things worse, should he fail at getting her away, he risks falling into the table behind him and spilling out all the cups, losing his game (and potentially, his dignity).
This night was turning into his own personal nightmare. Though if you had asked Rove what could have gone wrong tonight…an angry and startled goose would not have been one of them though neither had the steak…
It had happened so quickly and without warning the short oddly marked boy had turned slightly to receive Abigale in a symphony of angry screams, honks and swear words as the pair fell into the pong tables with a crescendo of crashes and splashes.
A scrabble of confusion as the goose went full fight mode making sure to unleash as many bites as it could on the poor boy who could only wonder what entity gave this thing serrated teeth on its beak.
In desperation Rove grabbed his magic pen with a quick blast of thunder magic to stun the poor goose as he grabbed it by its legs. Abigale though quick to recover as her wings slapped at his face as he tried to stand. Soaking wet and covered in something sticky, likely the root beer. Her furious biting got the bridge of his nose drawing blood as he huffed angrily looking around for an owner till the visage of the vice warden of scarabia crossed his vision.
The same man who threw steak at him earlier… an evil deranged smile twisted his features. Uncharacteristically Rove took in a breath and shouted. "Catch Jamil!" He yelled before he yeeted the Goose at the other.
Hmm even Rove thought as he tried to walk off with dignity.

REVIEW
Disturbing the Peace by Terrence McCauley
Jeremiah Halstead Western #2
Jeremiah Halstead may be a Territorial Deputy Marshall who brings in bad guys with bounties on their heads but as the story begins, he has more men trying to kill him than he needs, and it is all due to a wanted man putting a bounty on the lawman. Having to kill men is not his preferred activity but it beats dying. Will he survive? Will he be able to bring the bad guy in that put him in the crosshairs of so many guns? Or perhaps not?
What I liked: * Jeremiah: young but seasoned, has a backstory that still has not been entirely revealed, is a sure shot, upholds the law, has a bit of a temper, follows the rules…even when he doesn’t want to, meets Abby who might be a future romantic interest
* Joshua: younger than Jeremiah, Deputy Marshall, works with Jeremiah, cautious, aware, capable, a nice counterbalance to Jeremiah, would like to know more about him
*  The writing, setting, and plot
* McBride: Sheriff of Battle Brook, West Point graduate, capable, enjoys quiet, a good man
* Abigail: wealthy, young, educator, attractive and attracted to Jeremiah
* That it felt true to the era
* That it was twisted, dark, and gritty
* That there is the potential for what has gone wrong to come right in future books in the series
* Being invested in the story
* Knowing that there is another book to look forward to
 What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like – the bad guys were despicable, and I really want them thwarted
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing-Pinnacle – This is my honest review.
 4-5 Stars
      BLURB
Awa-5rd-winning, critically acclaimed author Terrence McCauley has drawn comparisons to Elmore Leonard for his skilled writing of traditional historical Westerns with a crime fiction soul. Now be brings his signature historical accuracy, three-dimensional characters, and non-stop, adrenaline-fueled action to the second Jeremiah Halstead Western. He may be the newest Deputy Marshal in the Montana Territory, but it doesn't take long for him to find himself in a mess of trouble... "McCauley's Westerns move at a pace that leaves readers sweating and out of breath. Blood on the Trail is one wild, entertaining ride." --Johnny D. Boggs Deputy U.S. Marshal Jeremiah Halstead keeps the peace in the mining town of Silver Cloud, Montana. But an old enemy has declared war against him. Ruthless and clever, Ed Zimmerman would have become the leader of one of the west's deadliest and hell-bent outlaw gangs. Zimmerman has offered a generous bounty to every desperado willing to put a bullet through the U.S. Deputy Marshal's heart. A death sentence won't stop Halstead from enforcing the law. The sheriff of Battle Brook needs a hand dealing with some hell-raising badmen in the surrounding hills, threatening to take over the frontier town. Joined by Deputy Sandborne, Halstead rides hard for Battle Brook only to discover manhunters aware of the price on his head are in town, guns cocked and ready to collect the reward. And Zimmerman has joined the outlaws in the hills, waiting to catch Halstead in his sights. . .

free movies online 2020
Creatures University is a 2013 American 3D PC energized experience drama movie delivered by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures.  It was coordinated by Dan Scanlon and created by Kori Rae, with John Lasseter, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich as official makers. The music for the film was formed by Randy Newman, denoting his seventh joint effort with Pixar. It was the fourteenth element film delivered by Pixar, and is a prequel to 2001's Monsters, Inc., denoting the first run through Pixar has made a prequel film.  Monsters University recounts the account of two creatures, Mike and Sulley, and their chance learning at school, where they begin off as opponents, however gradually turn out to be closest companions. John Goodman, Billy Crystal, Steve Buscemi, Bob Peterson, and John Ratzenberger repeat their parts as James P. Sullivan, Mike Wazowski, Randall Boggs, Roz, and the Abominable Snowman, separately. Bonnie Hunt, who played Ms. Stone in the primary film, voices Mike's review teacher Ms. Karen Graves.
Disney, as the rights holder, had plans for a spin-off of Monsters, Inc. since 2005. Following conflicts with Pixar, Disney entrusted its Circle 7 Animation unit to make the film.  An early draft of the free movies online produced; be that as it may, Disney's buy of Pixar in mid 2006 prompted the scratch-off of Circle 7's form of the film.  A Pixar-made spin-off was affirmed in 2010,  and in 2011, it was affirmed that the film would rather be a prequel titled Monsters University.
Creatures University debuted on June 5, 2013 at the BFI Southbank in London, England, and was release on June 21, 2013, in the United States. It was joined in theaters by a short movie, The Blue Umbrella, coordinated by Saschka Unseld.  The film netted $744 million against its assessed spending plan of $200 million, making it the seventh most astounding earning film of 2013.   An energized short film titled Party Central, which happens not long after the occasions of Monsters University, debuted in Fall 2013.
Michael "Mike" Wazowski tries to end up a scarer – a beast who enters the human world during the evening to unnerve kids and gather their shouts for vitality – in the wake of going to Monsters Inc., Monstropolis' most productive terrifying organization, on a school field trip. After eleven years, Mike is a first-year terrify major at Monsters University, where he meets James P. "Sulley" Sullivan. Mike thinks about hard, while the special Sulley, originating from a group of gifted scarers, depends just on his characteristic capacity and starts to waver. As the semester advances, Mike and Sulley endeavor to join a society, however just Sulley is acknowledged into Roar Omega Roar, the most grounded club on grounds. At the semester's last, most decisive test, a battle between the two makes them coincidentally break Dean Abigail Hardscrabble's loved Scream Can. Hardscrabble comes up short them two promptly, expressing that Sulley did not think sufficiently about, and Mike isn't sufficiently frightening, and Roar Omega Roar kicks Sulley from their gathering.

One Year Since the March
Tumblr media
The Women’s March—which took place a year ago on January 21—ignited a passionate crusade on behalf of women’s rights that in the past twelve months has begun to reshape attitudes and gender dynamics across our workplaces, airwaves, and public spheres.
At Politics and Prose, we’re proud to have hosted a teach-in about women’s rights on the eve of the march and have continued to offer programming and books reaffirming women’s rights and highlighting the inequities that remain across a broad spectrum of American life. In 2018, we intend to go on engaging and educating about women’s issues and promoting essential and often challenging conversations about gender and sexism in homes, schools, offices, policy arenas, courthouses, and elsewhere.
Here are some upcoming P&P events that we hope you’ll find of interest:
In celebration of the first anniversary of the Women’s March, come meet Janaye Ingram, a founder and national organizer of the march, on Tuesday, January 23, at 7 p.m. at our flagship store on Connecticut Avenue NW. Janaye will be joined by other special guests for a discussion of Together We Rise, a collection of essays, images, and interviews drawn from some of the key people behind the march. In the book, march organizers relate how the event came about and share personal stories. Also featured are a number of previously unpublished photos. Contributors include such women advocates as America Ferrera, Roxane Gay, Jill Soloway, Ilana Glazer, Ashley Judd, and Janet Mock.
We’re also pleased to bring you the following events at our Wharf location:
On Monday, January 22, at 7 p.m. Rebecca Boggs Robert profiles Suffragists in Washington, D.C., telling the story of the women activists who fought for the vote and the Great Suffrage Parade of 1913, the first civil rights march to use the capital as its stage.
On Tuesday, January 23, at 7 p.m., Leni Zumas will discuss her much anticipated second novel, Red Clocks, which portrays a world in which abortion is outlawed and every embryo is granted rights of life, liberty, and property, all at the expense of women.
Coming up in February we’re excited to host Rose McGowan, whose voice was among the first in Hollywood to speak out about rampant sexism in the entertainment industry. McGowan’s new book, Brave, is part memoir, part polemic, a first-hand testimonial to the unwanted advances and professional injustices that women actresses were (and are) often subjected to in trying to advance their careers. McGowan will be appearing at Lisner Auditorium on the campus of George Washington University on February 2 at 7 p.m. We also are offering classes this year that delve into the often unacknowledged contributions of American women in public life. “A Is for Abigail or Anonymous,” taught by women’s historian and educator, Elisabeth Griffith, begins February 22. The class will cover the challenges of writing about women’s lives when so many stories have been lost to history. Griffith also is scheduled to teach “Women in the 1920s: Flappers and Feminists,” starting March 17, on how women’s lives changed, often in surprising ways, following the passage of voting rights for women.   Our Women’s Biography book club, which meets the second Monday of each month, will next convene on February 12 for a discussion of Susan Quinn’s Eleanor and Hick, an examination of the relationship of Eleanor Roosevelt and reporter Lorena Hickok. We hope you’ll be part of an ongoing conversation about women and their roles, rights, and opportunities in our country and around the globe.

Would you guys sort all of the hunger games characters (all three books) pretty please?
We would love to, I hope you enjoy! -Abigail
The Hunger Games
Katniss Everdeen: Gryffindor
Tumblr media
Where most people would sort Katniss into Slytherin, We feel that is not where she belongs, she has to be Gryffindor. The amount of bravery she shows throughout the three books is amazing, it all starts out with her volunteering for her sister, you always see the little description for what each house would do in a emergency, and it says Gryffindor would die for you, whereas Slytherin is kill for you, and when Katniss volunteers she does not believe she’s coming home, she just knows she could make it farther than her sister, and that’s why she believes she has to volunteer. So she has to be Gryffindor!
Peeta Mellark: Hufflepuff
Tumblr media
This guy is literally the epitome of kindness and love. He gives to people without even knowing them, and is willing to take a beating for it. He has too much love for people, he literally runs when Katniss calls for him, he always cares about her well being. As well he is extremely loyal, to Katniss and Haymitch, enough to risk his life multiple times. So he has to be Hufflepuff!
Primrose Everdeen: Hufflepuff
Tumblr media
For Prim, we had some troubles choosing between Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, but honestly it shouldn’t have even been questionable, she learns to heal to help people, and helps people the entire time, and does everything she can to give her sister strength throughout this huge thing, and she’s even quoted recognizing that everything is changing and uses that to push her sister. So she has to be a Hufflepuff!
Gale Hawthorne: Slytherin
Tumblr media
This guy is incredibly amitious , he tries to make this whole plan of Katniss coming home and falling back in love with him, even though it could get her killed. He is also very loyal, always making sure to take care of Katniss’s family while shes gone. So he has to be Slytherin!
Effie Trinket: Hufflepuff
Tumblr media
Effie is extremely kind, though she doesn’t always carry the right type sensitivity to Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch about the games, but when she begins to understand the sheer amount of terrible things they go through in the games, and the thought of them having to do it again, makes her so sad. She is so loving and loyal to them. So has to be Hufflepuff!
Haymitch Abernathy: Slytherin
Tumblr media
This guy is EXTREMELY ambitious, and cunning. As well he is loyal, incredibly loyal to Katniss. So he has to be a Slytherin!
Cinna: Ravenclaw
Tumblr media
Cinna is incredibly intelligent, he thinks of these brilliant ideas. When it’s his final creation that he will get to see played out, he knows that he will be killed for his actions. He is incredibly wise and supportive of Katniss, making him a Ravenclaw!
Seneca Crane: Slytherin
Tumblr media
Ambitious and cunning. Nuff said Slytherin!
President Snow: Slytherin
Tumblr media
This terrible man is incredibly ambitous and will do anything he needs to do to  get what he wants. He’s incredibly self-perseving as well. So has to be Slytherin!
Cato: Gryffindor
Tumblr media
This guy is incredibly brave, he knows his duty and is ready to fulfill it. Has to be Gryffindor!
Clove: Slytherin
Tumblr media
This girl is crazy ambitious, she wants to surivive these games, and she will do anything to do it. She has to be Slytherin!
Foxface: Ravenclaw
Tumblr media
She is incredibly intelligent, she is able to stay invisible for a large part of the games by being very creative. She uses her knowledge about the different poisonous things to help her as well. Thus Foxface is a Ravenclaw!
Thresh: Gryffindor
Tumblr media
This guy is incredibly brave, and very protective over those he loves. Has to be Gryffindor!
Rue: Hufflepuff
Tumblr media
Rue is the adorable little sister I’ve never had. She is incredibly kind and loyal to Katniss without even knowing her. So her has to be a Hufflepuff!
Caesar Flickerman: Hufflepuff
Tumblr media
This guy is incredibly kind to all the tributes he meets, but he believes the games are a good thing that have to happen, and I blame that on the corruption of the Capitol, but regardless Hufflepuff!
Catching Fire
Finnick Odair: Hufflepuff
Tumblr media
I really really, don’t think I should need to explain this one but, he is extremely kind and loyal to the promises he’s made, enough to save Peeta’s life and almost get himself killed.. multiple times. So he has to be a Hufflepuff!
Mags: Hufflepuff
Tumblr media
I really don’t think I should have to explain this. She GAVE UP HER LIFE TO MAKE SURE FINNICK, PEETA AND KATNISS SURVIED. Nuff sad, Hufflepuff!
Johanna Mason: Ravenclaw
Tumblr media
Since Johanna is a character that is ultimately sorted all over the different houses, Slytherin, Gryffindor, or Ravenclaw (never Hufflepuff lol) So I thought it might be a good idea to add some quotes to prove my point. But we chose Ravenclaw, one as described in the first quote, she got through her first games by being very creative and intelligent. As well as that, when she does her interview, as well as everyone else she pushes the connections between the victors and the Capitol, knowing she could possibly put the game makers in a corner. Then she always goes back and tracks her steps making sure to think logically and always have a level head, making sure they do whats best to keep everyone else. Bring me back to the post mentioned in Katniss’s sorting where Ravenclaw description is “think of plan to keep everyone alive” which she tries to do over and over again (third quote). So Johanna has to be a Ravenclaw!
“She won by very convincingly portraying herself as weak and helpless so that she would be ignored. The she demonstrated her wicked ability to murder” (Catching Fire 214)
“By there time Johanna Mason gets up, she’s asking if something can’t be done about the situation. Surely the creators of the Quarter Quell never anticipated such love forming between the victors and the Capitol. No one could be so cruel as to sever such a deep bond” (Catching Fire 251)
“It doesn’t matter, you had to tell us or we never would have moved our camp in the first place, brainless “ Ironically, her logical, if demeaning reply is the only one the comforts me” (Catching Fire 336)
Beetee Latier: Ravenclaw
Tumblr media
Incredibly intelligent and creative, has to be Ravenclaw!
Wiress: Ravenclaw
Tumblr media
A little odd, but incredibly smart, has to be Ravenclaw!
Plutarch Heavensbee: Slytherin
Tumblr media
This guy is incredibly ambitious and cunning, he took the job as head gamemnaker and masterminded this huge plan to make Katniss the Mockingjay so has to be Slytherin!
Mockingjay
Annie Cresta: Hufflepuff
Tumblr media
I think it’s a district 4 thing, but she is incredibly kind and loyal. Has to be Hufflepuff!
President Coin: Slytherin
Tumblr media
This girl is incredibly cunning, she uses all the publicity about the Mockingjay to gain popularity about herself running for president. Very ambitious and self-preserving as well. Has to be Slytherin!
Boggs: Gryffindor
Tumblr media
Boggs is so brave, the fact that he holds the tracker and looks around trying to make sure there are no bombs, ending up in his own demise, making me sure the he is a Gryffindor!
Cressida: Ravenclaw
Tumblr media
This girl is incredibly intelligent, she knows what she needs to do to keep Katniss alive and she does just that. She ends up saving all of there lives by knowing this huge world of people. So she has to be Ravenclaw!
We hope you enjoy!
