tldr: an ot7 account made a big thread on why seunghan is vital to riize's lineup, talents and visuals wise. they explain why his dancing is needed to balance the team but some taro/wonbin stans took it as shade towards their biases dance skills and ended up seeming lowkey ot6..

so everything started with this ot7 user posting a thread in korean about how seunghan is vital and unreplaceable within riize. they mentioned things like how his visuals and proportions blend the group properly, how he’s the mood maker and has good sense in variety and comedy contents, etc. very well written thread btw, here’s the link to read it if u havent already !

anyways, the issue started bc of the part where nomad talked about seunghan’s dance position within riize. they praised him for his flexible movements in contrast to shotaro and wonbin’s “rough street dancing and standard styles.” they also said that after watching the member’s fancams, seunghan is the member best at “using his upper body” and “highlighting the details of the choreography.”

here is the whole translated paragraph transcribed from the ss:

again i just think its crazy how u can call urself ot7 when u dont believe he’s indispensable to the group? the whole point of nomad’s thread was to showcase what seunghan brought to riize, and why this ot6 body isn’t bringing out their full potential as vocal&performance artists. there are so many things to take into account here:

because one member is good at a certain aspect of a skill doesn’t make another members’ any less than..

the thread was to show seunghan’s unique differences from any other member, and highlight what the group loses by not having him. not to say “hes better at x than y member,” but to say “this is how seungan’s skill contrasts any other member and creates a better result.”

riize is a team, teams have members, members are going to have distinct styles that they execute best. shotaro is obviously the main dancer as he's very versatile and can cover a wide range of movement, but that doesn't change the fact there are details & aspects of seunghan’s dancing that he makes most noticeable, & that differ and contrast shotaro’s in a good way. those differences make them look better as a group. like yes taro is a pro dancer, but he has a more "x" style while seunghan accentuates more "y" movements, and "x" and "y" work together perfectly with the rest of the members on stage. its not about who is better, it’s about how they look together as one.

i feel like some taro/wonbin stans are referring to individual skills, which explains why they're bringing up taro's past as a dancer. individual skill is a whole different story, and again, that wasn't the purpose of the thread, it was to show what riize loses as a group by not having seunghan.

the “better at moving his upper body” part is one of those details seunghan highlights, but that comment is an opinion on nomad’s part, so ofc u can disagree with it. however the undeniable fact is that seunghan is very talented at dancing with his upper body, and whether x member is better than him or not isnt the point - it was included to show how he and only he executes it differently than others to create an enhanced look on stage. i think its funny how theres literally a part of the thread where wonbin is agreeing that seunghan has the most flexible upper body in an interview but some milkteas were still acting like nomad saying that is a snub to taro??😭

getting mad at a seunghan praise tweet for praising seunghan is odd behavior. u can of course have preferences, but to call it “discrediting” shotaro is a huge stretch. no one is downplaying shotaro’s skills as a dancer, in fact nomad’s thread is one of the only threads ive seen actually articulating and placing focus on seunghan’s dancing, so to say it was “objectively untrue” is crazy and i think we should just let hongjjangus have nice things. if u disagree, and think taro is better at something, gone ahead and make ur own thread like this user did (maybe with a less shady caption🤕) instead of creating a space for people to feel comfortable demeaning seunghan's skills comparatively to other members.

There’s a mix of distinct reactions on their end—surprise, betrayal, aloofness? They’re either too dramatic or too indifferent. But it’s only for a mere second.

Lottie thinks back on the numerous times you and Daniel had acted a little odd and the realisation hits her like... A gust of wind.

The blush forming on your cheeks as you stop momentarily and get a glimpse of his euphoric face, with the same smile you just can’t get enough of.

Some of the faces used for this that are meant to be slightly unsettling are just,, not perfectly proportional and are badly lit?? Like literally that's it. Like there are real people who look like that. Fix the lighting and it's just gonna look like your neighbor of something. It's not very scary

But also like, for real? On your points abt how the series itself gives off A Lot if proto-fascistic messaging,

when I first watched it I was like "oh! That's the point! This is abt how fascist governments use media like TV to influence and misinform the public in service to facism and paranoia. Like these doppelgangers aren't actually real! They're just made up boogiemen to incentivize the public to turn on their neighbors/to attack people who are disfigured or disabled" and I thought that I finally was maybe getting why people found it interesting and that I had judged it too harshly

And then it wasn't that and instead was like "yeah no. when i judge how bad a VN is with my brother (avid VN reader as well) we use Sweet Pool as a basically "zero" on the scale of professional, large VNs.

Sweet Pool's writing was WEIRD. I can do some weird, thats fine. Weird ass-birth stillborn meatslugs? ... okay, ill... look past that. ok i wont lie, the constant ass-birth was hard for me. i really did try to not judge it on that but like, there was almost constant buttbirth going on. ive made peace with this by now, kinda making a link to myself about the connections of it to being an unintentional trans narrative in many ways and all but like. it was WEIRD. and kinda hard to read. it didnt strike me as horror, it struck me as "weird fetish i have to sit through. oh my god is he licking tha- PUT IT DOWN Z-DAWG. Ok christ."

The characters were also weird. I laughed out loud in surprise at how stupid the "i saved you from being raped <3 SO I CAN RAPE YOU, PSYCH!" scene was. like wtf was that??????

i did not enjoy the art style, i think its the ugliest N+C art style yet and since. not my thing. many angles and proportions look weird. the CGs looked stiff and uninspired. it NEVER grew on me. no shade to people who liked it or the artist it just.. wasnt my thing. not unbearable but just. not. as good as it could have been and def took away from the experience.

i didnt like any of the endings. it wasnt scary it was weird. the pacing was weird. for being a BL, it had very little love just... wtf. and im so sad abt what they did to mikoto bc i liked him before uuuUuUuUu yandere plot twwwwist. bleh.... dollar store keisuke! they would FORCE the true end so you maybe go, "maybe the true end is satisfying and good an-" no. its not. fuck yoU!

sweet pool was painful. i dont know how else to put my experience. i 100%d it because i 100% everything when i can, and i was literally pushing through like a hiker in a snow storm to finish it. every 3 seconds was secondhand embarrassment. the "jerking off in the classroom" scene comes to mind. i got up and took a break for that one because it was just unbearable. idk how anyone could slap one out to this vn. im not sure if anyone ever has. which makes the sex weird. actually, i dont think there was a single consensual ero scene unless u count the true end fusion scene.

the aesthetic/vibe was... ehhh... not super unique IMO. school setting immediately put me off, a more gritty and cool toned, dark palate made things interesting but, its still a "weird thing happens in high school" story. kinda bored to death of HS settings in VNs.

i did like the protag tho! he was interesting and it was nice having a chronically ill protag even if it was just a plot device to make him be able to miss school while going on a... dark apartment birth marathon.

sweet pool felt like a bizarre, amateur fanfiction for a fetish i dont have.

the soundtrack is very memorable as well as the opening pre-game sequence, i liked the concept of the choice button meanings, but they were very rough in actual use.

"You got your good thing" is a lyric from in heaven by david lynch off of the eraserhead soundtrack and as the title suggests is my tag for heaven but i dont really like the biblical idea of heaven (tldr is that it doesnt make sense to me because an eternal life spent living in blinged-out mansions off of milk and honey sounds awful, also revelations 21:4 isnt reassuring it just sounds like emotional control lol) so im reconstructing it thru images on tumblr dot com ..... in my mind it functions more as an archive for all the things ppl loved/enjoyed but lost or threw away so someplace filled with everything from candy wrappers and cigarette butts to beloved childhood toys. The proportions are a bit weird because the angels are recreating places from human memory and while out perceptions laid over this world make sense theyre very strange out of context (if u scroll down my blog a bit theres a post abt relational reality for more on that) so its all got a very fantastical alice in wonderland-esque feel to it ...... theres a certain clinicality to it too bc the angels havent figured out emotion yet but despite all of that it is a lovely place. oh thank you so much!! ;; i'm really glad you like my ocs!! i actually still struggle a lot with splatoon proportions myself ;v; lots of tweaking and resizing when i sketch, I hope to be able to draw them more naturally eventually ..! But i'm glad I can make it seem like it's natural, because I put a lot of effort into it 😭🙏 Currently I use paint tool SAI ver.2 for about 95% of my drawing process. I eventually hop into CSP v1.13 if i need more specific tools or brushes (mostly for background or effects) My go to brushes in sai2 is the effect pen tool for sketching and rough lineart, and I use the brush tool for coloring and rendering (alongside the default pen and airbrush tools)

I've been using sai for over ten years now.. its very simple and clean UI allow me to focus entirely on my drawing. I've tried switching to CSP for maybe 2 years, but still ended up going back to sai, because the wide array of tools and brushes etc. that csp has just kept distracting me (think of it like forcing yourself to use a ballpen to draw instead of a pencil and eraser, with which you end up trying to correct every single small mistake you make) (i tried to simplify csp's UI to mimick sai's but it was still overwhelming for me) Good luck on finding your soulmate art program and brushes!! It can be difficult but definitely worth the experiments

cue lyam being put on trial & boom technical first meeting with neuvillette. gotta be honest the entire thing was kinda boring bc it was all blown out of proportion just for lyam to be like “well i was born there, & none of you said anything till now” kinda thing. ANYWAY. since they were technically not guilty of a trespassing crime, they weren’t sent to meropide, but they were guilty of reading old documents that no one was supposed to see. (which wasnt what the trial was for so its not like anyone could do anything but whatever. anyways) instead of sending them to prison, neuvillette gave them a job :3 “work off your crimes” and all that. they’re technically a general investigator, bc they’re way too observant for they’re own good, but what they were really there for is to research this place ↴

which is within the former institute’s walls. only bc it might give them some hint to prevent fontaine’s prophecy & neuvi AND furina wanna be more safe than sorry.

ANYWAY THATS THEIR FIRST MEETING. BASICALLY A SILLY MISUNDERSTANDING TRIAL TURNS INTO A CONSENSUAL WORKPLACE RELATIONSHIP.

as for their dynamic, its so simple in retrospect but actually very hard to word. but it’s basically like?? rather than a relationship that was initially built on friendship or whatnot, its built solely on trust and understanding. both of them feel outcasted, despite technically having a place within fontaine’s borders. so its like “if you and i are outcasts together, its less lonely”

plus both of them have a stronger connection with hydro than other people. neuvillette because he’s literally the sovereign. & lyam bc they grew up in the water (probably too close to the primordial sea but they’re not from fontaine so its fine). so they also have that natural pull to one another.

they’re also very quiet individuals, but lyam also does have wriothesley’s exact sense of humour, but they just have this perpetual seriousness about them so everyone thinks they’re actually insane. (it makes neuvillette’s days a lot more interesting though so it’s okay :3)

ANYWAY. they’re a comfy couple. always got each other’s backs, even when the other doesn’t realise. always aware of each other. bc hey. they’re each other’s person. they gotta.

ALSO IF I CAN GIVE A HC ON THEIR WORK RELATIONSHIP REAL QUICK— lyam is kinda like neuvillette’s shadow :3 (im still working on their kit, but hypothetically speaking they’d be a buffer/support & a sub dps for him. & any other dps really). no one ever really sees them unless they have to, or unless lyam just feels like it. but they don’t want neuvi taking on cases himself, bc he’s too important for that 🤷 so they do it 🤷 (bro’s the grim reaper /j)

i hc neuvi to have VERY sensitive hands (sorta why he wears gloves, apart from just gen appearance). so he rarely lets people actually hold his hands, but lyam gets to have that privilege :’3. they give himb small hand kisses & cradle them so gently. plus, they just love holding hands in general, so they’re grateful that he trusts them sm T_T

tbh as a latin american person dirty laundry was really important to me at the ripe age of 15 lol but I guess mainly because it was so hard to find good fics with representation, so I would hold on to anything that had any at all. but i hold it very dearly to my heart to this day

i cant say much abt the rep as someone who isn't latinx / mexican-american but even tho the people in my circle atm were fine w the portrayal of lance's family, i knew many people made valid points of why they didn't consider it a very accurate / good portrayal of their culture and i get that i rlly do, but the author was a minor and like. the fic wasn't the Best by far, but a classic fandom experience is reading shitty fic by people who havent fully grasped their writing style tbh . i didn't get the extremely excessive hate, like that was totally unnecessary to me (esp w the author being a minor who was HARASSED over the fic) by mostly non-latinx people advocating for latinx culture, and iirc all the latinx people who criticized it did it respectfully so to me personally as an outlier who doesnt have multiple perspectives to the story and the discourse regarding it, the problem lies within the extremely prevalent cancel culture that ran rampant in the vee ell dee fandom, esp w no regard to empathy or the impact on the person receiving the hate. and while the writing was Definitely subpar, discounting all the discourse abt racism, it was still pretty good for a 16 yr old (i think?) writer, and as i said before, an integral part of fandom as a whole is reading some shitty fic for fun / the drama / whatever reason. so basically my whole stance on the situation is that it was blown Way out of proportion by people whom it didn't even concern (which always irks me) and the excessive backlash with no regard for its impact was Way Too Much and latinx people are free to love it or criticize it as they want, since i cant have an opinion on that. peace and love ✌️

Yeah basically I think if it hadn't been a kidnapping and had JUST been a thing that Old marcellus decided to do it could've been fine?? Like if old crusty marcellus decided to kidnap a child but something went wrong with the glass or smth so septimus COULDN'T go back rather than young marcellus not letting him go back. I think that would make more sense. Bc literally it is NOT treated like a kidnapping AT ALL and it doesn't have any real consequences and it being a kidnapping specifically doesn't have any impact on the story bc sep doesn't hold it against marcellus or seem particularly affected. Every other character doesn't seem to care. Marcia is the ONLY person who has a proportional reaction to a 12 yr old being kidnapped for 6 months and even then she's portrayed as being unreasonable and petty abt it even tho realistically she's not??? Marcellus never faces consequences for it. So what difference would it make to have it not be a kidnapping

Yeah that does make much more sense. Hell it could even have been pinned on etheldredda alone, with her aiming to get the tincture herself.

And yeah the bit that bothers me isn't even the lack of consequence its the lack of any reaction at all? Like there's being forgiving and then there's whatever tf is going on here

MCFLY JULY DAY 6 - LEARN TO SKATEBOARD

i had a couple more lighthearted ideas for this but uh...i started sketching this one first and it completely got away from me lol. the idea here is that young(er) marty attempts to practice some sweet moves on his new skateboard in the burger king parking lot, but poor kid can't quite get his balance right and ends up hurting himself pretty badly (though it could've been worse if his mother hadn't insisted he wear protective gear). so he sits and cries, from the pain but also because he's convinced himself that he'll never be able to skate and he should just give up. maybe there's a silver-haired man that lives in the garage he's sitting in front of that'll give him a bandaid and a good pep talk
