One of Leo's early victims was a streamer named Neko, who was a red panda. Leo is very stupid and cannot tell the difference between a red panda and a fox (low effort explanation I know 😋)

Sorry if you’ve answered this question before but is Friday named after/inspired by Wednesday Addams in any way?
Oh it's a reference for sure - I'm a huge Addams Family fan.
Like most Hallowoods characters, Friday is informed by a long history of horror tropes - namely the 'disaster goth child' and 'creepy twins'. Wednesday Addams, Lydia Deetz, Nancy Downs, the Grady Sisters, and even Domino from Marvel Comics all come to mind.
'Friday' seemed like a nice way to reference both her Addams Family inspiration, and also Friday the 13th, which is said to be unlucky. 'Rescher' was also the surname of Nicholas Rescher, a philosopher who (among other things) is known for his attempt to create a scientific formula for luck. (A ‘Girl Friday’ is also a term for a jack-of-all-trades, or someone who can save you in a pinch).

Look, I don't want to make you ramble but I want to: I NEED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT CALEC'S TIEFLING FAMILY 😭 is Milo the youngest? Are the twins a bit creepy like twins are sometimes? BARD MOM? (i love me some female bards) WHO ARE THESE AMAZING BEINGS I WANT DESCRIPTIONS
Oh you always know just want to say 🤭
OKAY! We're doing this, I'm gonna make a cut cause I'm gonna ramble and there's gonna be pics okayletsgo!
First, let's start with some introductions, starting with the parents.
Caelestia Breeland: A tiefling bard from the home of devil summoning, Cheliax. She's beautiful, she knows she's beautiful, and if she has her way she'll be beautiful until the stars burn out. She sings, dances, plays a bunch of instruments and, most importantly, she's a damn fine cook. She loves her kids, and she loves her husband. A lot. So much. Like, think Morticia and Gomez Addams these folks are having kids into their 40s and beyond they LOVE love each other and they don't hide it, much to their kids' chagrin. She's the "fun mom"
Tumblr media
Speaking of her husband, Thorin Breeland: Thorin is a human ranger from the frozen Land of the Linnorm Kings. He made his way south looking for adventure, found Breachill and The Call for Heroes which is an event regularly held by the town when the people need adventurers. That's where he met Caelestia and fell in love. She thought he was quaint, he thought she was hot, it was a match made in heaven. She got pregnant with their first child and they got married shortly after at the ripe age of 18 and settled down in the town where they met. That worked out so well for them that they decided to keep it up and had 4 more kids after that. One of his wife's favourite things about him is just how normal and plain he is, which is unfortunate for him because none of his kids seemed to pick up that trait, and Milo is still a little too young to tell.
Tumblr media
Speaking of kids, I'll skip the first born(we don't talk about him) and move to the next set. The Twins.
Tumblr media
Jules Breeland: Jules is, by trade and passion, a rogue. Her whole life all she's ever wanted to do was disturb shit and look hot doing it and by god she's killing it. She's the only kid other than Calec who inherited their mother's tail and unlike her kid brother she leaned into that, and has trained herself to use it as either a distraction or a slightly clumsier third hand. Her thievery is a great boon while they're adventuring but Thorin has a hell of a time keeping her out of trouble at home. Caelestia doesn't care, she thinks it's good to keep practicing and if her daughter is gonna show up with a beautiful new pearl necklace for her and the guards aren't looking their way then who is she to question her good fortune? She's an absolute disaster lesbian.
Tumblr media
Which brings me to, Freya Breeland: Freya looks like the least troublesome of the two sisters but actually that's just a carefully constructed ruse. Freya is a witch, a fire-starter, and an absolute fucking nuisance. She takes after her mother when it comes to her beauty and penchant for using it to her advantage and she lives to tease her kid brother. She wasn't born with the same kind of inherent magic as some of her siblings, so she used her head and reached out to some...less scrupulous benefactors, got herself a magical patron and hasn't looked back since. Her hawk familiar, Apollo, is her closest confidant after her dear sister and while at one point the bird used to try and reign in her chaotic tendencies now he just rolls with it. Despite the chaos, Freya is a genuinely kind and loving person and she'd do anything for her family even though she sometimes shows that by casting curses on them and animating Calec's toys when he was a child and convincing him they were haunted and giving him nightmares for months... but I digress. She took to potion crafting like a moth to flame, and her proudest achievement to date is figuring out the formula for Serum of Sex Shift and crafting it for Jules for her birthday. She's a distinguished member of the Pathfinder Society, like her sister and parents.
Tumblr media
We know him, we love him. Calistair Breeland: I won't dwell too much on Cal cause he already gets all the spotlight but his place in the family is special. He adventured with the Breeland Bunch for a bit before Milo was born and then, as the next youngest and least experienced, it became his responsibility to stay home and take after the wean while the rest of the family went on an adventure. He took up a job as a blacksmith apprentice and quickly became lead smith at Quarters while also occasionally doing security on caravan runs and other shorter escorting gigs to keep food on the table while the family was away. He was a flirt and a troublemaker in his youth, a spoiled brat and the kind of pretty boy that knows he can get away with everything. He takes after his mom. Taking care of Milo, though, settled him a little bit and he's finally caught up to his age. He idolized his older brother, the oldest in the family and a Champion of Desna.... the first adventure they went on without Calec, though, his brother never returned from, and there's been a rage boiling inside of him over it ever since.
Tumblr media
I don't have a mini for Milo because...it's darn hard to make a kid on heroforge lol. Anyway!
Milo Breeland: Milo is the baby. 8 years old, and Calec's biggest fan. He's smart, cheerful, inquisitive. He spends his days with his nose in books reading tales about heroes just like his family and insists he's going to go on adventures with Calec some day and save people. He looks the most like his father with his red hair and pale skin and big green eyes. The only sign of fiendish blood in him is the sharp incisors that have started to grow in. His mother babies him whenever she's home and seems to favour him, which pisses Calec off for reasons he's not ready to confront yet. Calec, who tbh used to be kind of a whore, won't date anyone anymore unless they're Milo approved and treat the kid with the respect he deserves. Milo adores Rehgar.
And then we have the animals, that I'm gonna breeze through. Ursa and Fenn:
Thorin's animal companions. Ursa is a sweet lady who loves her family, curls up with Milo every chance she gets, and is fiercely, fiercely protective. She likes to eat maybe too much, and snores like a beast. Fenn is a clever wolf (heroforge only had dogs suspend disbelieve and pretend he's massive lol) and younger than Ursa. He favours Calec and the two of them often caused a lot of trouble together when Cal was younger. Now, when they're together, he's Calec's training buddy. Calec can almost keep up with Fenn's speed now, and his goal is to outrun him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I didn't include any info on Calec's older brother because, tbh, I decided I wanted my GM to cover that and I love the mystery xD No one ever speaks about him, they won't talk about what happened, and Calec is starting to think maybe he's going a little bit crazy. Milo was too young to remember him and now after all this time Calec is starting to worry he's imagined everything so I'm keeping the details I do know about him very vague on purpose lol. All he has left is Celeste, his frankly oversized polearm that he crafted through his mourning with the fragment of his brother's starknife that the family brought home, as a reminder that he ever existed at all.
I wanna run a game where everyone plays a member of this family and put them through so much shit ;;

Lunchtime Khan thoughts & sketches below the cut
Ages are going to change here, but Khan was the oldest of six kids.
Tumblr media
His given name was Kenzington, and as a kid his family called him Kenzie. When he turned ten he decided to start going by Khan instead of Kenzie, though he allowed his family to keep using the nickname. Even as a kid he was fairly grumpy and no-nonsense, prone to getting into fights, but he was always reliable nonetheless.
The second oldest sibling was Azorentia, who the family affectionaly nicknamed 'Dizzy' for her absolutely batshit fashion choices. Neons and stripes and spots and leg warmers and headbands- the ugliest, most garish shit you could put together, Dizzy would, and Dizzy would GLEEFULLY do it. She was a bright spot of sunshine compared to Khan's dour demeanor, but despite their age gap the two were thick as thieves. Khan took the fall for every bit of chaos and trouble Dizzy caused, and he did so happily. Dizzy repaid him with snacks and an overload of affection. Dizzy is the only one who refused to believe, at any point, that Khan abandoned them. For all her fashion disasters, she was incredibly intelligent and a dab hand with a computer. She looked up their parents, their place of work, and discovered that the family friends Khan had stayed with also worked there. This did not turn out well for her, not her friend that she roped into joining her in her search for Khan.
The third youngest were a pair of 'twins'- twins in name only. Davis and Dennis were born on the same day and, as luck would have it, looked similar but were not related in any way. They were adopted, Davis before Dennis, and occasionally got into arguments with each other but they also enjoyed the idea of being twins. They relished in the fact that they could both be twins and NOT be twins. From a young age they both enjoyed cooking and baking, which meant they got bullied in school for being "girly" and would then go to Khan, who always supported his siblings no matter what, and he'd kick ass. The twins looked up to Khan with a sort of hero or god-like idolization. When Khan "ran off" and left them, they took it hardest.
Courderoy is the youngest of Khan's blood-related sibling. At a young age, they developed an interest in dark and unique fashion. They admired Wednesday Addams quite a bit, and absolutely despaired that they inherited their fathers near-blond hair instead of their mother's dark brunette color. Though they tried to appear stoic and flat-faced, they're actually quite emotional and frequently went to Khan for snuggles and support.
And the youngest sibling, Rasvor. Adopted as a newborn, Ras had the greatest age gap from Khan. Given that their parents worked a lot he saw Khan as a mixture of father and brother. He was still very young when their parents died, but if asked he can say that he remembers Khan not letting him go for a week. He doesn't remember much of Khan, but he does remember that his oldest brother was the steady rock despite his fierce face. While the rest of their siblings suffer feelings of abandonment and anger, Ras knows - much like Dizzy did - that Khan would never have abandoned them. And if he had, he would have left Brother the Houndoom with them.
Finally, Khan's parents. Nelissa and Craig. Nelly looks incredibly stern, but she was a kind and fun-loving mother. She was fairly no-nonsense but she allowed her kids to express themselves however they wished. Craig was more easy-going yet also more neurotic. He constantly hovered, worried that his kids would be injured or hurt somehow. Any time they went out to play he would follow with an absolutely STUFFED first aid kit.
The two and Khan had a bit of a tumultuous relationship. Nelly got pregnant with Khan at a very young age, when she was just starting her career, and for the first few years of his life she was often short tempered with him. She never laid hands on him but yelling at it around him in exasperstion was not uncommon. Craig tried to minimize the damage but, as he and Nelly worked in the same area, he was often stressed as well and his method of handling an upset wife and child was to not get involved. By the time Khan was seven he was yelling back at his mother, getting into arguments with her, and using her full name. After Dizzy was born and they saw how defensive Khan got over her, Nelly and Craig did better. They apologized to Khan for their behavior, spoke to counselors, and worked on improving their behavior so their son wouldn't try to hide their daughter from them. Khan remained wary, always on watch, but gradually developed a better relationship with them. Nelly often would lament to Craig that her poor behavior as a mother in Khan's childhood led to her having some sort of brother instead of a son. Before they could truly work on repairing their torn relationship, Nelly and Craig died at work.
Tumblr media
One did not bully Khan's siblings, or his siblings friends, and get away with it. He was loose with his fists and had no problems fighting dirty. Detention and suspension were not unknown words or punishments to him, but he'd always rather they happen to himself instead of his siblings. He was well known as the 'Guardian' before he went missing. Even after he allegedly ran away, his legend lived on due to a series of convenient accidents that happened to bullies.
Tumblr media
smol khan practice. Shitty pencil eraser. Meh. His hair was always wild, even as a kid, and he was easily recognizable between his glare and his hair. His most common outfit choices were sweaters, sweats, and sandels.

Jaime x Brienne 2021 Exchange Fic Recs!!!
Hey there! While I haven’t quite gotten through all of the fics in this year’s Jaime x Brienne Fic Exchange, I wanted to go ahead and get this rec list posted ahead of the reveal tomorrow night. I plan to add to it once I finish the final batch of stories and go back and reread a few I bookmarked. So without further ado, and in no particular order, here are some of my favorites:
Desserts. [Modern AU] This wonderful story was written for me and it’s a lovely character study of chef!Jaime and his growing relationship with Brienne (who is his sous chef even if it takes him forever to admit it). But what will Jaime do when Hyle Hunt walks into his restaurant, stating that he’s Brienne’s fiancé? Jaime’s response is epic, so don’t miss out on this one!!
Bug Juice: Jaime and Brienne’s Summer at Camp. [Modern AU]. A story with a Myrcella POV! This author did a fantastic job of combining a 90’s children’s show with a GoT Season 8 fix-it. Myrcella’s running commentary on the last episode of the season is hilarious as she finds out whether her Uncle Jaime will finally get together with Equestrian Director Brienne!
Come Home. [Show canon divergence]. This was so beautifully written. When Selwyn sends Brienne an urgent message for her to come home, Brienne doesn’t know what to expect. What she finds is that Evenfall Hall has a very problematic guest that’s inevitably going to attract trouble when the world finds out he’s there. To say more would spoil the surprise.
On Paper. [Modern AU]. Poor Addam Marbrand, forever stuck dealing with Jaime’s perpetual inability to flirt effectively. One of the funniest stories I read in the exchange.
Safe. [Modern AU]. Oh. My. God. The train heist story. Electric sexual tension between Jaime and Brienne, competence kink, and a wonderful backstory woven throughout. Guh.
Ding Dong Ditch, Baby. [Modern AU]. Jaime needs Brienne’s help when someone leaves an unexpected package for Tyrion on his doorstep. Complicating matters is that their one date was an absolute disaster, not that that will keep the sexual tension at bay!
Unrestrained Summer Fun. [Modern AU]. Jaime, Brienne, and Cleos spend one memorable summer together as children, and are reunited about twenty years later. The author cleverly recreates their trip through the Riverlands in a series of misadventures only kids could have. I loved this story so much!!
Has the Past Passed? [Modern AU]. Jaime and Brienne were driven apart by a misunderstanding. Ten years later, Jaime returns—as Brienne’s on the verge of marrying another man. It’s not every story that has you feeling sorry for Hyle Hunt for a while, and the author handles the sticky situation deftly.
they say your body is full of sin (it’s the door through where peace begins). [Modern AU]. Take a premise that could’ve been a pretty quick, hot-and-heavy PWP (5+1 masturbation fic). Throw in Jaime’s complicated history with his father driving him to become a camboy, lonely journalist Brienne tuning into his channel, and don’t forget the feelings. Lots and LOTS of feelings. And baked goods. Have I left anything out? Probably. This story is amazing.
Where I Cannot Stand. [Firefly AU]. I must admit, I’ve never watched Firefly. That will soon be rectified as this story was fantastic. Jaime and his ragtag crew take on two passengers for their trip to the Twins. One of them is a tall, mysterious blond acting suspicious and bringing along a large crate. To quote Jaime at one point in the story, “What could go wrong?” (Seriously, Jaime, you’d think you would know NEVER to say such a thing.)
right here, forever. [The Martian AU]. MARTIAN AU! MARTIAN AU!!! Brienne finds herself stranded with Jaime on Mars—not ideal considering they’ve got a complicated history. One of my favorite movies mashed up with my favorite OTP? That’s my catnip.
Thanks to the @jaime-brienne-fic-exchange mods for putting this together!!

TW: Macabre, Dark comedy, Gothic Romantic elements/style, Interest in death, Interest in murder, Interest in psychopaths, Unconventional family members, Sibling rivalry, Attempts to harm other family members, Mutiny, Summer camp, Serial killer
Welcome to the Librarian’s Suggestions!
In honor of Thanksgiving celebrated in the West, the librarian has two themes to share. Each will have its own post.
Today’s Theme (1 of 2): The Addams Family (Comics, TV Shows, Live-Action Movies, Animated Movie)
Plot: Started as a newspaper comic drawn by Charles Addams about an unusual, quirky family with an interest in all things macabre, the comic strip centered around a family of four with their loyal butler and hand servant. In the 1960s, a live-action TV show was created and the family was given names, while their personalities were developed further. Years later, there were cartoons and movies about this family dressed in dark Gothic fashions who lived in a gloomy mansion, surrounded by darkness and death.
The 1991 live-action film focused on the family reuniting with their estranged uncle, who took a wrong turn in the Bermuda Triangle and is suffering from amnesia. 2 years later, the sequel Addams Family Values introduced the new baby of the family, along with the uncle getting married to a serial killer and the children being shipped off to a preppy summer camp. A failed third film showed the Addams family looking for long-lost relatives in the hope they can find a cure for the elderly members becoming “normal”. The most recent installment showed the quirky family trying to protect their children from the hostile “normal” neighbors, believing that they are doing the right thing.
In all of the content, the family always works to figure a way out of their situations in their own unique way. In the words of the matriarch, “Yes, we will survive. Poison us! Strangle us! Break our bones! We’ll come back for more! And why?”
“Because we’re Addamses!”
Characters
Gomez Addams: The father and head of the Addams family. A suave, devoted husband and father, he is skilled in fencing and darts. Always up for some lighthearted pranks and jokes.
Morticia Addams: The mother of the Addams family. Elegant and mysterious, she is always there to offer support or words of wisdom, with a hint of dark humor or wit. She cares dearly for her husband and family, often steering them on track if they need guidance.
Pugsley Addams: The oldest child of the family. He enjoys stealing traffic and safety signs for his collection, often with the goal of seeing disaster strike when the area has an accident where he’s swiped the sign from. He tends to follow his sister’s ideas without much question, even if it means subjecting him to a game in an electric chair called Is There a God?
Wednesday Addams: The youngest child of the family. (Prior to the film Addams Family Values) She is the brains of the children and often comes up with the schemes, making Pugsley help her with executing them properly. She is often spouting sarcastic or dark one liners to everyone around her, usually looking unimpressed with her surroundings.
Uncle Fester: Gomez’s older brother and the uncle to Pugsley and Wednesday. He is mischievous and often joins Gomez or Pugsley in their pranks and jokes. He is unable to die via electrocution and harbors a talent for making a light bulb light up while in his mouth.
Lurch: The tall, mainly silent butler who communicates through grunts and groans. He waits on the family’s needs without hesitation and does many of the tasks around the house.
Grandmama Addams: Eccentric and enthusiastic, she handles the cooking in the family and offers advice to Morticia when she needs it. Like a typical witch, she knows curses and hexes and can conduct seances.
Joel Glicker: A young boy who attends the same summer camp as Wednesday and Pugsley in Addams Family Values. He suffers from many ailments and hates the outdoors, longing to be home and reading. He bonds with the Addams siblings over a shared hatred of the camp and campers, always trying to aid them in their escape from the camp. Eventually he works with the siblings to overthrow the counselors and snooty It-Girl camper during a politically incorrect play of the first Thanksgiving and shares a goodbye kiss with Wednesday.
Debbie Jellinsky: A serial killer who looks for rich, lonely bachelors, marries them, then kills them on the honeymoon for their money, always making it look like an accident. She goes after Fester, posing as a nanny for Wednesday and Pugsley when the pair try to eliminate their new baby brother in Addams Family Values. However, her attempts to kill off Fester fail each time, due to the nature of the family.
There are other characters that are part of the family like Cousin Itt (a long-haired relative that mumbles), Thing (the disembodied hand servant who aids the family), and Pubert (the new baby in Addams Family Values) but due to some of their appearances/traits, they may not be ideal muses to use.
Possible Plots
Your muse is one of the Addams characters and follows one of the plots from the films.
Your muse crosses paths with one of the Addams characters and either finds common ground, or clashes with them.
Notes
Great for groups or large bands.
Also ideal for a pair of muses who wish to be either Morticia/Gomez, Pugsley/Wednesday, or Wednesday/Joel.
Serial killer, yandere, and obsession themes could be overlaid on these characters and storylines, due to the family’s interest in Victorian and Gothic elements and dark or misunderstood figures in history.
Also could be overlaid with bad boy/bad girl themes, as Wednesday and Pugsley have gotten into situations like vandalism, theft, mutiny, and hijacking in the stories.
Any time period can be placed on these characters and stories.

🕊️👀🌙 Yesssss GO OFFFF
(i answered the wedding one, so i went one down lol, which i hope is okay)
🍼 Does your OC have any children or want children? What names would they pick? Are they good with kids or a complete disaster?
Eventually, she has three of them! The one she’s pregnant with at the end of the fic, and fraternal twins ten years after that. Anton Daniel is the oldest (Dan delivered him, though entirely against his will). She names the twins Benjamin and Matilda. Yes, Benjamin is a shout out to her favorite Star Trek captain.
Shockingly, Jess is a good mom (and Herbert is a good dad). They’re a bit on the off-beat side, but they love their kids. Their whole vibe is very Addams Family.
👀 Describe your OC through the eyes of another person! (bonus + specify who)
The least physically imposing person in the house. She’s skinny, barely clears 5′2″, definitely the sort of woman you can see being a flyer on the cheer squad. All of her power is in her eyes, which show her strength and if you piss her off, that willingness to murder you to protect her own. Though the scars all over her face and hands show that she’s been through hell and back and won, so clearly some asshole is not going to be a problem.
🌙 If your OC could have one wish come true what would it be and why? Would there be consequences to this wish or would they regret it once they get what they want? What would they give in return for this wish to come true?
Probably un-kill her parents because that’s her OG trauma, it’s why she had troubles forming relationships until Herbert, it’s the reason that explains what being a double bi growing up in the 70s south  does not explain about her. There would be consequences for sure. At the very worst, she would have never gone to Miskatonic and never met the dudes that become her family. And things would be fine, but not great. If she knew that things had been different, I think she would regret it, especially if things go as they did in canon. As for what she would give...I don’t know.

Six Baudelaires AU, Part One: Reference Guide
A quick guide for everything I intentionally referenced in The Six Siblings, Part One: There’s No Happy Endings, Not Here and Not Now.
{ao3} {tumblr}
Without further ado...
Tumblr media
Chapter One / Prologue - in which the Baudelaires make a Fort
“Mother and Father are gone again, and we can’t get Sunny to shut up.” [...] “Where are Mom and Dad?”
This is relevant throughout the entire fic; the Netflix!Baudelaires (Violet, Klaus, Sunny) refer to their parents as “Mother and Father”, while the Movie!Baudelaires (Lilac, Nick, Soli) refer to them as “Mom and Dad.” This is because they did so in their respective adaptations.
In case you missed the origin of the Movie!Baudelaires names:
Lilac is also a purple flower, similar to Violet.
Nick and Klaus are both diminutives of Nicholas.
Solitude and Sunny are both popular candidates for S Theodora Markson’s first name in the prequel series, All the Wrong Questions.
Lilac said, moving up next to the crib and smiling as some hair fell out of her ponytail and into her face- ugh, she’d have to braid it back before breakfast.
obvious reference to the fact Movie!Violet has four braids at any given time.
Lilac sighed. “Vi, can you pass the hone- is that my sweater?”  Violet glanced down at her outfit, and then glared at her sister. “Well, it’s not like you were going to wear it.” “That’s mine, Nancy gave it to me for my birthday!”
“Nancy” is a lowkey reference to goth movie character Nancy Downs, from The Craft (1996).
But there were Klaus and Nick, sitting in the corner. Klaus was covering his ears and rocking back and forth, while Nick was grabbing blankets out of a box and putting them over him, nervously fiddling with the edges and bouncing up and down as he ran.
Most of the Baudelaires’ reactions to the storm are referencing the fact that they’re autistic and/or adhd, and the loud thunder is overstimulating for Klaus and Solitude especially. [I also used this as a reference in part two of my Stranger Things crossover, If I Go (There Will Be Trouble), with Klaus and Sunny.]
As Lilac dictated what to do, Violet grabbed some rope out of a box, and threw blankets over it as Lilac tied it to loose planks and metal structures. They kept doing that, until the blankets made up a small enclosed area. Lilac dug some pillows out of another box, using those and the extra blankets to fill in the floor of the blanket fort.
obvious reference to the blanket fort scene in the 2004 film.
“Music box.” Lilac explained, and she grabbed something on the side, winding it up and then opening it. Slowly, notes started playing, sounding a bit like a jazz song.
Reference to Ellington’s music box in All the Wrong Questions, which was probably playing either “Black, Brown and Beige” or “Solitude.”
“Snahpro.” Solitude said, which meant, “I’d rather [Mom and Dad] were here with us.”
Hint: spell “snahpro” backwards. ;)
Rest of the fic under the cut.

Chapter Two - in which the Baudelaires receive some Distressing News
“But I was reading about tide pools yesterday,” he said, “And I’d like to see what’s here.” “Hopkins,” said Solitude, which probably meant, “Let him look at the tide pools, we’ve got time.”
“Hopkins” is a reference to Kailey Hopkins, the American Girl doll Girl of the Year 2003-2004, whose story centered around tide pools.
“Lilienthal,” Sunny said, which meant, “Or the hang-glider.”
Otto Lilienthal was the first person to make repeated successful flights with gliders.
[Lilac] said there was “always something” that could be done to better any item, any piece of trash. Anything could be useful… except Violet’s ugly clothes, nobody could fix that disaster.
obvious reference to Movie!Violet’s catchphrase.
[Solitude] would have the same smile while succeeding in finishing a puzzle as she did when she was playing fetch with Nick- “fetch” being a word which here meant that he would throw whatever was closest to him and she would catch it and bite it.
obvious reference to the short scene in the 2004 movie.
“Ready.” Nick said. “Asill.” said Soli and Sunny.
“Asill” is a combination of the words “As I’ll”, aka the popular phrase, “Ready as I’ll ever be.”
“They just get back from a trip.” Violet said. “Maybe they needed to follow up on something today?” “What would they need to follow up on that we couldn’t be there for?” Nick asked. “Maybe they’re just-”
Lowkey, Nick was going to suggest that maybe their parents kicked them out of the house so they could have “alone time” together. He’s lucky he didn’t get to finish this thought, as Lilac probably would have throttled him.
“How do you do?” Violet asked.  “How do you do?” Klaus asked. “Odo yow!” Sunny and Soli both said. Nick stared at them. “You all sound like robots.” he said, before turning to Mr Poe. “It’s nice to see you, Mr Poe.”
a reference to the popular meme format:
Tumblr media
Klaus and Nick stared at the burnt pages, while Violet made her way over to a broken grandfather clock she had spent hours of her life repairing and fixing and adding additions too; it was almost completely shattered.
A reference to her clock/toaster in The Bad Beginning, Part One.
“Nick,” Lilac said, glancing at Solitude, who she was currently holding, “You’re scaring her.” “I’m scaring her? Lilac, our parents are dead! We’re going to be shoved to the first person who might be related to us, and til then we have to sleep on the floor. We don’t have anything, our house is gone-”
Nick’s freakout is a reference to a deleted scene from the 2004 film that goes similarly.
“Deciduous,” Soli said, which probably meant, “Can I bite it?”
“Deciduous” is a term used for when leaves are shedded from trees.
What [Lilac] didn’t say, was that while she couldn’t remember seeing it before, or the Eye on top, it looked… it looked familiar, somehow. But she couldn’t say where she might’ve seen it before.
A reference to Book!Violet being able to vaguely remember VFD activity. Lilac takes that subplot in this fic.
Chapter Three - in which a wild Count Olaf appears
“Which one is the eldest?” Olaf asked. Poe paused, glancing between Violet and Lilac. “Well, they’re twins, so I don’t believe it matters.” “We’re the twins.” Nick said, gesturing to himself and his brother. “Lilac and Violet are not.”
Start of a running joke where Lilac/Violet and Solitude/Sunny are confused for the set of twins, as they look more similar to each other than the fraternal twins Nick and Klaus.
They stared at each other for a moment, and then Nick said, “Well, I’ve got a good feeling about this.” “Nick-” Lilac warned. “No, really, he seems like a great guy.” Nick said, dropping Solitude on the ground and starting to wander around the room. “I mean, the house is falling apart, sure, but I’m sure it’s nothing. We probably won’t die the second a storm comes around. Oh, and I’m sure we can just find some rat traps lying around, I thought I saw a mouse on the way up.” He paused, glancing to the side, and then said, “Ooh, one bed, fantastic.”
Once again, a reference to the deleted 2004 film scene.
“Hey, maybe we could take off that wallpaper.” Violet suggested after they all worked for a few minutes, glancing at a part that had already peeled off.  [...] Klaus turned slightly, smiling at Nick and saying, “It is so pleasant to be out in this great room and creep around as I please.” While Soli and Sunny stared in confusion, Nick laughed, and Lilac and Violet also smiled slightly. Nick then continued, “For outside you have to creep on the ground, and everything is green instead of yellow.” “The wallpaper’s not yellow, though.” Lilac noted, though she still smiled. “Don’t be a spoilsport.” Violet said, before continuing the quoting from a short story the older children all enjoyed. “I’ve got out at last, in spite of you and Jane! And I’ve pulled off most of the paper, so you can’t put me back!”
The siblings are referencing the 1892 short story The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, which was written to highlight the "medical, professional, and societal oppression against women at the time.”
Chapter Four - in which Nick and Klaus finally get into a Library
“They don’t have anything more recent than twenty years ago, and the Librarian doesn’t say anything, other than asking me if I’ve been good to my Mother.”
reference to a VFD codephrase as revealed in The Unauthorized Autobiography; a librarian will ask “Well, young lady, have you been good to your mother?” which means “I have a message for you.” The message will be given if the volunteer replies with, “The question is, has she been good to me?”
“Hmm?” Soli asked. “I don’t remember that.” “That was before I liked you.” Nick said, grinning over at the toddler. “Remember? Took me six weeks, and then we were best friends.” “You tried to throw her off the roof.” Violet reminded him. “That’s just sibling bonding.”
Reference to the best movie of all time, Addams Family Values (1993), in which Wednesday and Pugsley take a dislike to their new baby brother and attempt to throw him off of the roof.
“Tagenon.” Sunny said quietly. “I wish we had pancakes, this oatmeal has no flavor.”
Foreshadowing to Sunny’s future interest in cooking.
“Pasta Puttanesca.” she said, holding up the cookbook she’d been flipping through. “That sounds Italian.” Lilac noted. “I wonder what it means.” Klaus said. “I think it means ‘very few ingredients.’” Nick said. “That’s great.” Lilac said, looking like she didn’t care at all. Klaus considered a moment. “I don’t think that’s right.” “I don’t think you’re right.” Nick retorted.
Reference to both Movie!Klaus and Netflix!Klaus’s reactions to “Puttanesca” - “that’s Italian for ‘very few ingredients’” vs “I wonder what that means in Italian.” Fun fact: “Puttanesca” roughly translates to “prostiitute.”
Chapter Five - in which Dinner goes Badly
“Vanukas.” Sunny said. “And Chocolate Pudding for desert.”
“Vanukas” is Finnish pudding.
Chapter Six - in which the Baudelaires are Cast in a Play
Sunny raised a small hand. “Caedis,” she said, which meant, “We could just kill him.”
derivation of the Latin verb “caedo”,  which means “to cut, beat, kill, defeat”
“Funus.” Soli laughed. “I could hide the body.”
derivation of the Latin noun “funus”, meaning “funeral, death.”
“Standoffish” was not a word the children would use to describe Count Olaf. Lilac would have been more inclined to use “pure evil” had she not been worried something might happen to her siblings if she did.
Reference to one of Movie!Violet’s lines.
Slowly, Count Olaf got to his feet, walking around so he was standing beside Lilac, and he reached forwards and stroked her on the chin, staring deep into her eyes. “You will participate in this performance. I would prefer it if you…” he smiled darkly, “Volunteered to perform, but I believe you orphans are familiar with the term in loco parentis. That is a phrase that here means that I can order you to participate, and you must obey.”
Reference to VFD.
Chapter Seven - in which the Baudelaires read up on Inheritance Law
“I mean…” Klaus paused. “She couldn’t be scared, could she? Lilac doesn’t get scared.” Nick glanced over at him. “Klaus, we’re all-”
Reference to a line from The Bad Beginning, Part One that is quoted directly in the next chapter: “We’re all frightened, Klaus.”
Chapter Eight - in which Lilac and Violet attempt a Rescue
Soli sniffled. “Parvula,” she said, which meant, “I had to move out of the crib, but I didn’t care, I was just happy to have someone to play with.”
Feminine form of the Latin noun “parvulus”, meaning “infancy, childhood.”
Lilac nodded. “When… when Mom and Dad brought you home, boys, and Soli, and Sunny, they told me… they told me, ‘you are the eldest Baudelaire child. And as the eldest, it will always be your responsibility to look after your younger siblings.’” Violet flinched, glancing away, and Soli sniffled a little.
The reason Lilac does not mention Violet is simply because she would’ve only been eleven months old when Violet was born, not old enough to remember anything her parents told her. Violet flinched because her parents had never told her the same thing, or at least not to the extent of Lilac, which just feeds into her inferiority complex.
“Devil’s tongue knot.” Lilac nodded; they’d both memorized the knot when they were younger, after reading about the female Finnish pirates that invented them in the fifteenth century. Violet had thought it’d be useful to know a knot that twisted in such a complicated and eerie way, and while Lilac agreed, she’d honestly learned it because she thought it’d be a good way to impress a female Finnish pirate, should they ever meet one.
Baby Lilac was a baby gay for female Finnish pirates.
Lilac froze a moment, and then her eyes darted towards Violet, whose face fell into a look of horror the second she realized what Olaf was implying. Then Lilac turned back to the Count, a darkness and hate behind her eyes as she spoke in a growl of fury her siblings had never heard come from her voice before. “Don’t fucking touch her.”
A running joke is Lilac constantly reprimanding her siblings for their language, though she swears herself on occasion. However, she herself will say “fuck” almost exclusively when Olaf is threatening her siblings- especially Violet, who, as another teenage girl, is in just as much danger as Lilac- and when she is threatening him right back.
Chapter Nine -  in which Violet has a Plan
“If we fail-” “We won’t.” Violet gripped tighter onto her sister’s hands, and she stared her in the eyes. “You’re Lilac goddamn Baudelaire, and you are not giving up here.”
this is a reference to me being salty at the ending of the 2004 film.
“God, we should’ve just murdered Olaf on day one.” Nick said. “Just all dogpiled on him and punched him til he stopped moving, and then claim we don’t know what happened.”
a reference to the original shitpost that inspired this au.
“Then we better get moving.” Nick said. “I saw the troupe member Violet said was guarding the stairs in the crowd, so we might be able to get up that way. We won’t have to climb the tower.” “Good, cause I can’t climb for shit.” Klaus said, wiping his face with his sleeve. “We wouldn’t do as good as Lilac or Violet anyway.” Nick shrugged. “If we had to make something.”
Once again, a reference to me being salty at the ending of the 2004 film.
Chapter Ten - in which the Baudelaires crash a Wedding
Softly, Violet looked over at her, and grinned slightly. “Your makeup’s ridiculous.” she said, giggling.
You may have noticed a pattern in me being salty towards the ending of the 2004 film.
Tumblr media
Chapter Eleven - in which the Baudelaires meet their next Guardian
“What sort of scientist is he?” Lilac asked[...] The siblings all looked out the windows, and after a pause, Nick said, “Well, Li, there’s your answer.” As Poe’s car pulled up to the steep gravel driveway to the enormous stone house before them, they could see a vast, green lawn, covered in shrubs and hedges that had been trimmed to resemble long serpents.
A reference to Movie!Violet asking what kind of scientist Monty is while walking beside several hedges shaped like snakes.
“Sayonara.” Soli giggled, meaning, “Good riddance.” “Yeet.” Sunny said.
In The Reptile Room book, it is mentioned that “yeet” is one of Sunny’s ways of saying goodbye. But also it’s funny because of a recent meme.
Solitude looked up curiously. “Serpentium?” she asked, meaning, “What reptile room?”
“Serpentium” is a derivative of the Latin noun “serpens”, meaning “snake.”
The second Nick entered, he glanced down at Solitude to see her eyes light up completely.
And Solitude’s interest in Herpetology has begun.
“That is one of the smallest frogs in our collection.” Monty said. “But size is no guarantee of power, is it, Solitude? That frog is very long-living, can switch genders at will, and is incredibly adaptable. You can name them if you like.” Solitude looked like Monty had just given her the world, and the tiny frog hopped onto her shoulder. She giggled as it curled up against her, as if preparing to fall asleep on her sleeve. "Babbitt!" she cried with delight.
The introduction of Solitude’s pet.
Babbitt is named after Natalie Babbitt, the author of the book Tuck Everlasting, which features a toad as an important character.
Babbitt is based on a Wood Frog, though they are not an exact correlation; while they display many behaviors/physical similarities, Babbitt’s ambiguous species has some unique traits, such as genderfluidity and a longer lifespan.
Chapter Twelve - in which Sunny makes a Friend
“Ink!” Sunny said, meaning, “And I can play with the Incredibly Deadly Viper!”
A reference to Inky’s name, which is revealed in The End.
“Okay.” she finally said. “Um… Sunny, say goodnight to your siblings.” “Nocte!” Sunny yawned.
“Nocte” is derived from the Latin noun “nox”, meaning “night.”
Nick fell asleep quickly, too, but Klaus stayed up a bit more, playing with the cylinder in his hands and occasionally staring towards the window, where he could’ve sworn he heard something outside, but… it must have been nothing.
A reference to the VFD code phrase, “If there’s nothing out there, then what was that noise?”
Chapter Thirteen - in which Monty receives a New Assistant
While Solitude was slightly jealous that Sunny had befriended such a large snake, she had her own pet; she’d named her tiny frog Babbitt, and the small animal tended to jump onto her shoulder or into her dress pocket whenever they had the chance.
See the reference list for Chapter Eleven for notes on Babbitt.
“Cheup!” Sunny called to the crocodile in the corner of the room. “Don’t be sad! Uncle Monty will be back soon!” “Sun! Cor!” Solitude called, meaning, “Sunny, the broken-hearted crocodile just sounds like it’s saying ‘woe is me,’ he’s not actually sad at the moment.”
“Cheup” is a combination of the words “cheer up.”
“Cor” is the Latin noun for “heart.”
“You were just reading about alligators.” Klaus said. “They’re different.” “Not really.” “Sinensis.” Solitude said. “Klaus is right, actually.”
“Sinensis” is part of the scientific name for a subspecies of alligator, the alligator sinensis.
“Serpe?” Sunny asked, looking over. “Can we bring the Incredibly Deadly Viper?”
“Serpe” is derived from the Latin verb “serpo”, meaning “to crawl”
Chapter Fourteen - in which the Baudelaires go to the Movies
“We’re fine.” Violet said. “What was screaming?” “Nothing.” Nick said. “If that was nothing,” Violet glared at him, “What was that noise?”
A reference to the VFD code phrase, “If there’s nothing out there, then what was that noise?”
“How did he find us?” Klaus asked. “That’s the wrong question.” Violet said, and they stepped back again as they heard more pounding on the door. “What do we do?”
A quote from the Netflix show that is most likely a reference to All the Wrong Questions.
“Propositum,” Solitude said, meaning, “He must have some scheme, we just don’t know what it is.”
“Propositum” is a derivative of the Latin verb “propono,” meaning “to make known, declare.”
The movie itself was very confusing for the children; it had subtitles in the same language it was spoken in, the characters all spoke in stilted and unrealistic dialogue, and whenever a bell rung, Nick and Klaus would hear Monty count every eighth word, write it onto his ticket, and then look at the confused, unrelated jumble of words and erase the sentence, muttering something about paranoia.
Monty knows there is a message in this movie for him in Sebald code (see: The Unauthorized Autobiography), but he is counting every eighth word instead of every eleventh. Thus he does not get the message.
“Poliziotto?” Sunny asked, which meant something like, “Do you think Uncle Monty called the police?”
“Poliziotto” is the Italian noun for “police officer.”
Chapter Fifteen - in which the Baudelaires crash a Car
“Video!” Sunny shouted, which meant, “Anyone could see that!”
“Video” is a Latin verb meaning “to see.”
“He’s an actor, he could’ve-” Lilac began. [...] “How’d he get rid of his tattoo?” Klaus asked quietly. “Makeup, it has to be.” Lilac said. “He’s an actor, he’d know where to get some.”
A reference to the fact the Movie!Baudelaires realized he could have used makeup faster than the Book and Netflix!Baudelaires.
“Omicido?” Sunny asked, which meant something like, “Do you think he’d kill Mr Poe?”
“Omicido” is an Italian noun for “murder.”
“Squamate,” Solitude said, cuddling Babbitt to her face, which meant, “I would rather see more reptiles.”
“Squamate” is a derivative of “Squamata,” the scientific name for the largest order of reptiles.
Chapter Sixteen - in which Solitude leads a Jailbreak
“Okay, that was clearly one of his troupe members.” Klaus said. “The- I’m not quite sure what their gender is.”
A reference to the fact the Netflix!Baudelaires pick up on disguises faster than their Book counterparts.
As Babbitt hopped out of her pocket and across the floor, she said, “Recente,” which, in this case, meant, “It was in the newest one, so it should be on one of the ends.”
“Recente” is a derivative of the Latin adjective “recens”, which means “new, recent.”
“Or we could just have Sunny bite us a lockpick.” Violet said. “I don’t think she can do that.”
A reference to Sunny biting Violet a lockpick in The Reptile Room, Part Two.
Lilac said, hiking up her skirt and starting to tie it back; she remembered, briefly, how her Mother had taught her how best to tie back long dresses and skirts if she planned to run in them.
actually useful information
“Would you rather break open the lock with a flamethrower?” “Yes! Was that an option?”
A reference to this incorrect quote, which is, of itself, a reference to a line from the television show Brooklyn Nine-Nine, episode 3x10, “Yippie Kayak.”
“Lilac?” Violet asked, watching as Solitude tried to squirm out of Nick’s arms to reach a cage that was being carried by. “Do we know an Aunt Josephine?” “I…” Lilac shut her eyes. “I think I vaguely remember the name.” “Josephine Anwhistle.” Poe said. Lilac considered. “Yeah. Auntie Josephine. Fierce Auntie Josephine.” “We have an Aunt Josephine?” Klaus asked. “Yeah.” Lilac said. “I… it must’ve been before you boys were born, but I do remember someone saying ‘Fierce Auntie Josephine’... I must’ve met her when I was young.”
A reference to Book!Violet being able to vaguely remember VFD activity. Lilac takes that subplot in this fic.
Nick placed Soli onto the floor as he started shoving books into his suitcase, trying his best to fill it up, and she wandered around the room, crouching by the corner a moment as the screeching iguana was carried away over her head. When he finally picked her up, she cried a bit quieter, putting her head on his shoulder and keeping her hands in her pockets.
This is when Solitude puts Babbitt into her pocket to smuggle out of the Reptile Room.
“Bye, Ink!” Sunny called. “Amo! Mox!” This meant, “I love you! I hope to see you soon!”
“Amo” is a Latin verb, meaning “to love.”
“Mox” is a Latin adverb, meaning “soon.”
Tumblr media
Chapter Seventeen - in which Aunt Josephine is no longer Fierce
“What do you remember about Aunt Jo, Lilac?” Nick asked.
The Movie!Baudelaires call Aunt Josephine “Aunt Jo.”
Soli bit her lip. “Timor,” she whispered to Nick, meaning, “Someone’s been to crazy-town.”
“Timor” is a Latin noun meaning “fear.”
“Sunny doesn’t speak fluently yet.” Klaus said. “She does know some English words.” “And Italian.” Nick said. “Mom taught her some of that.” “And Father taught us some Latin.” Klaus added. “But Sunny and Soli mostly just use baby talk.”
Italian and Latin are the languages I use most for Soli and Sunny’s speech.
Beatrice knew Italian from here career in the opera.
Solitude, who had bent down to look under her crib, sat back up and said, “Cooke,” which meant, “It kind of sounds like a Rattlesnake.”
The journalist Alistair Cooke recommended cooking rattlesnakes.
Should also be noted that Solitude bending down to “look under the crib” was her hiding Babbitt under there.
“Dorel,” Solitude said, pointing at the crib. “I’m too old for that, I moved out of cribs back when Sunny was born.”
Dorel Industries is a Canadian manufacturing company that makes cribs.
They stared for a moment, and then Nick said, “Well, I’m gonna go disassociate in front of the fridge.”
y’all are never gonna let me live this post down and honestly keep going i love it
“Hirudinea!” Solitude threw up her arms. “Then who cares?”
“Hirudinea” is the subclass that leeches belong to.
Chapter Eighteen - in which the Baudelaires break into a safe
Klaus eventually got bored of the grammar books, and he was dismayed to find that the only non-grammatical book that Aunt Josephine didn’t have put away somewhere was Anna Karenina, which he’d already read twice.
Anna Karenina is required reading for VFD.
Solitude spent most of her time finding a new room to hide in, as she’d seemed to tire of Nick never letting her out of his sight, but she felt very bad about this; whenever they found her, she’d look very guilty, and she’d apologize for worrying them.
She’s sneaking out to play with Babbitt.
“Scripto,” Solitude huffed, petting Babbitt, “Not actually paying attention to things we like.”
“Scripto” is a Latin verb, meaning “to write.”
“Roh.” Solitude said, also taking a photo to show Babbitt. “Wrestling.”
ROH (Ring of Honor Wrestling Entertainment, LLC) is an American wrestling promotion.
Chapter Nineteen - in which Aunt Josephine gets a date
Before Lilac could stop him, [Nick] reached forwards and grabbed Olaf’s leg, pulling on it and pulling back the pant to try and show the tattoo. Violet and Klaus screamed as their older sister raced forwards and pulled him back, but before she could, Nick stared, wide-eyed, at a peg leg, instead of an ankle.
A reference to a similar scene in the 2004 film.
Lilac pushed Nick behind her, terror filling her as she shouted, “Nick Liam Baudelaire, what the hell was that?”
Nick’s middle name is taken from his actor, Liam Aiken.
Chapter Twenty - in which Lilac gives her siblings allergic reactions
“Dead fly.” Solitude said, but thankfully none of the adults heard her and asked why she’d want something like that, nor why her dress pocket was squirming.
While this is an obvious reference to Soli wanting to feed Babbitt, it is also a reference to a similar request made by Wednesday Addams in the 1964 sitcom The Addams Family, episode 1x10, “Wednesday Leaves Home.”
Chapter Twenty-One - in which the House falls
“So what do all these mistakes mean?” Violet said. “It’s substitution, isn’t it?” Nick said, figuring it out. “The k is supposed to be a c, so c is the first letter.”
Nick figuring it out before Violet is a reference to how fast Movie!Klaus figured out the code in the 2004 film.
“Raef.” Sunny shuddered. “Scared, but alright.”
“Raef” is “fear” spelled backwards.
Chapter Twenty-Two - in which Violet steals a Sailboat
“Irma?” Sunny shrieked, meaning, “Did you miss the fact there’s a hurricane?”
A reference to Hurricane Irma.
Aunt Josephine looked down at the photo, and they were surprised to see her face soften. “Ah, Lucky Smells Lumbermill. In Paltryville!” she sighed. “It’s not far from here, maybe a day’s drive. I remember the day this photo was taken. We were all so young. Look! There’s Ike. Isn’t he handsome? Oh, and Gregor! Of course that was before… well…”
“That was before” Gregor and Ike had a falling out and Gregor was killed in an arson.
Chapter Twenty-Three - in which the Baudelaires go Off-Book
“That won’t matter.” Lilac shut her eyes tight. “I’ll sing us to sleep.”
A reference to the song “Asleep”, performed by Emily Browning, Movie!Violet’s actress. The perfect depressing song to end The Wide Window on.
Tumblr media
Chapter Twenty-Four - in which the Baudelaires break and enter
“Well…” Nick bit his lip. “Remember what Mother said? ‘Do the scary thing first…’” “‘Get Scared Later.’” Violet nodded.
A quote from Lemony Snicket in All the Wrong Questions.
Nick bringing it up is a lowkey reference to the fact that Movie!Klaus’s actor, Liam Aiken, narrated the audiobooks to All the Wrong Questions.
They looked at each other and then Sunny said, “Sondheim,” meaning, “Let’s travel through the woods, and follow the road from there; can’t be that much of a walk.”
“Sondheim” is a reference to Stephen Sondheim, the composer of Into the Woods.
Nick and Soli clapped, and Lilac hissed, “Violet Malina Baudelaire, I am going to slaughter you.”
Violet’s middle name is taken from her actress, Malina Weissman.
Chapter Twenty-Five - in which the Baudelaires are put to work
“Good, we could get Nick new glasses.” Lilac said. “I don’t need glasses!” Nick huffed. “I can see just fine!” “Yeah, outta one eye.” Klaus said. “What happens if your good eye gets scratched or burnt or something?”
Nick has amblyopia.
Tumblr media
“Parvum!” Sunny shouted. “We’re not midgets, we’re children!”
“Parvum” is derived from the Latin adjective “Parvus”, meaning “small.”
Klaus, Lilac and Sunny seemed the most bothered by this; Lilac kept flinching whenever the pots clanged, Sunny would sometimes hide on one side of the log to cover her ears, and Klaus kept shutting his eyes in a struggle to hold back tears of frustration and overstimulation.
Lilac, Klaus and Sunny are incredibly overstimulated by their environment.
Chapter Twenty-Six - in which Klaus goes to the optometrist
“Simitu!” Solitude said. “We can’t just let him off by himself!” “Oculus!” Sunny said. “That eye building is creepy!”
“Simitu” is a Latin adverb meaning “at the same time, together.”
“Oculus” is a Latin noun meaning “eye.”
Chapter Twenty-Seven - in which Klaus is acting Very Strange
No major references in this chapter.
Chapter Twenty-Eight - in which there is an accident at the Lumbermill
“Records.” he whispered. “Timbales?” Sunny asked. “Any Tito Puente?” “Egieb?” Solitude asked. “Or Duke Ellington?”
Timbales are an instrument used by Tito Puente.
“Egieb” spelled backwards is “Beige,” a reference to Duke Ellington’s “Black, Brown and Beige.”
That song, as well as the reference to Duke Ellington himself, are a reference to All the Wrong Questions, which took a lot of names from things associated with Duke Ellington.
Chapter Twenty-Nine - in which Sunny has a Swordfight
“Ubi?” Sunny asked. “Where could he be?”
“Ubi” is a Latin word meaning “where.”
Georgina looked furious. “As if this is all about some fortune!” she shouted, swinging her sword and only barely missing the infant Baudelaire’s cheeks. “As if you don’t know what this is about, what with your parents’ role in-”
“Your parents’ role in VFD.” (as well as some crimes they committed for VFD, such as the assassination of Olaf’s parents.)
Tumblr media
Chapter Thirty / Epilogue - in which the Baudelaires are enrolled in a School
“Next guardian?” Poe coughed. “Oh, no, I couldn’t find a single person willing to take you in after what happened to your last guardians. But I have a place to put you until I can convince someone. It’s a lovely school, one of my associates just dropped off two twin orphans there a few weeks ago.”
A reference to the fact Esme was in charge of thee Quagmire estate in book!canon, meaning she was probably left in charge of Duncan and Isadora and left them at Prufrock. Both her and Poe work in the financial sector, they could possibly know each other.
They went into the building, and Nick walked up to the first student he came across. “If I was a bathroom,” he asked, “Where would I be?”
A quote from book one of All the Wrong Questions.
Nick saying it is a lowkey reference to the fact that Movie!Klaus’s actor, Liam Aiken, narrated the audiobooks to All the Wrong Questions.
“Your new Vice Principal is waiting for you in his office. You will wait for him on the bench outside.” Poe said, taking them down a hall. “And I will see you once I have found a guardian. Please behave yourselves as you would at a normal school.” “Our normal school burned down with our parents inside.” Nick said.
The Baudelaires were homeschooled before the fire.
They all fell silent, and then Sunny looked up at Lilac. She was still tired, and she whispered, “Browning?” which meant something similar to, “Will you sing us to sleep?”
Once again, a reference to the song “Asleep”, performed by Emily Browning, Movie!Violet’s actress.
She was changing the words slightly to an old tune they used to hear on the radio when they were bored, and on a music box that was given to the boys when they were toddlers by a relative they hadn’t liked much before she was trampled by horses, and playing in a coffeeshop their Father had to duck into one time they were heading to the train station to pick up their Mother from a journey.
The relative they hadn’t liked being trampled by horses is a reference to Lemony Snicket line from The Wide Window, Part One: “The expression ‘You can't lock up the barn after the horses are gone’ was a favorite of a woman who meant a great deal to me, even after she was trampled."
There is also an implication in the last line that the Baudelaires may have been to Stain’d-by-the-Sea, stopping at Black Cat Coffee before going to the Stain’d Train Station to pick up Beatrice.

Do not glorify/romantize/endorse Leo's actions ("I wish someone cared about me this much" etc etc.)
Do not ship Leo with anyone. At all.
Do not treat Leo as 'fixable' or anything of the like, or imply that he could/should be 'forgiven'.
Do not imply romantic/sexual intention when Leo is touching someone. He just likes physical touch, that is all.
General info -
Leo's birthday is October 27th. He is a Scorpio ♏️
Leo's main love language is physical touch, but he can give love through all five.
Leo is a sex-repulsed Panromantic Vincian man. He can feel romantic attraction but only feels any type of deeper attraction/connection with non-women.
Leo has combined-type ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder).
Leo has ASPD (Antisocial Personality Disorder).
Personality traits -
Leo is loyal, protective, obsessive, slow-to-anger, charismatic, controlling, manipulative, forgetful, strategic, and vengeful.
Leo doesn't get angry easily. He may get annoyed, but genuine anger is rare and hard to bring out. Often, it's a build-up of small things that makes him lash out, usually violently.
Leo is extremely loyal to those he loves. He will absolutely kill and die for his family, and for Usagi. Family is the most important thing to him, and he will choose them over anything else.
Leo, as a strategist, rarely ever does things without a plan in place. While his actions may seem impulsive or non-sensical, they are often to drive people apart, cause fear/pain, etc. Leo is extremely smart, and knows how to twist situations into his favor.
Leo is a control freak. He can't stand not being in control, and will do whatever it takes to maintain the power he does have. If that means violence, then that means violence.
Leo will spiral and be sent into complete delusion and panic if he's left without affectionate physical contact for too long. He needs it to feel grounded, and he will force the contact if he must to stay sane.
Important details -
His insomnia -
Leo has extremely intense insomnia. This is a result of an error when he was mutated. Originally, Draxum intended for all the brothers to require less sleep, so they could spend more time fighting wars and such. Instead, Leo got an overdose of that specific chemical, resulting in the state we see today, whereas his brothers got off with no ill effects.
He is physically unable to sleep for around a month, but Leo is able to force himself to stay awake for just under around 3-4 months before his body begins to shut down. Leo can't control this, and he is likely to pass out mid-conversation or while doing something because of this.
This insomnia has extreme physical effects on Leo. It results in glassy vision, sluggish movement/behavior, extremely bad memory issues, delusions, inability to concentrate for very long, and carelessness. Leo also has a lower natural heart rate because of this, and his eyes strain more easily. He also has extremely shakey hands, which mostly present themselves when he is typing/drawing/writing.
Leo's siblings don't care for Leo's behavior after being rested, so they often make attempts to keep him awake/wake him up faster. Without intervention, Leo can sleep for days. With intervention, he may get 6-8 hours max.
After being freshly rested -
After Leo has recently gotten sleep, he is noticeably more helpful, respectful, withdrawn, and thoughtful. He is more likely to notice smaller details, remember things better, etc. He is also nicer, and will better listen to things like 'no'.
This state lasts around 1-3 weeks, depending on how much sleep he got previously. He may revert back to his regular behavior faster if exposed to a catalyst (someone made him angry, he gets a look/smell/taste of blood, etc.)
His relationship with Big Mama -
Leo hates Big Mama. He distrusts her and her motives, and hates how she treats Splinter, Mikey, and Donnie. Game recognizes Game, Manipulative recognizes Manipulative.
Leo keeps BM alive exclusively for Splinter and Mikey. He is willing to kill her the second either of them gives him the word.
Leo will be courteous to her if he has to be. He will accept her gifts and call her Mother, but he makes his absolute distain of her very clear. He refuses to be alone with her and will silence anyone trying to tell her personal facts about him violently.
BM was the one who gifted Leo his sword as a sort of peace offering. It didn't work, but he took it anyway. Now, he never goes anywhere without it.
Leo is very strict about BM not knowing about Usagi. He regularly threatens his and Usagi's brothers to stay quiet about Usagi, and makes it clear that it is their necks on the line if he finds out they told her. BM would use Usagi as a pawn to get Leo to listen to her, and Leo refuses to give up his control.
BM is aware of some of the other Miyamotos (specifically Kenichi, Ishida, and Riko) but does not know about Usagi specifically. She just knows that they have more siblings. She also does not know that Leo has a connection with Usagi.
Leo and BM are actually quite similar, with their controlling and manipulative natures. Never tell Leo that, though. Unless you want your head cut off.
His stalking -
Leo began stalking around 10 years old. Most of his targets would only be interests between 1-3 months, before Leo got bored/they died/etc.
Leo has had 36 victims, including Usagi.
Leo does not have a preference when he stalks. Age, gender, species, etc has no effect on who he fixates on. Though he is likely to be more violent/intense towards male/masc people if they are his current focus.
Leo typically treats any death similar to a breakup. He'll cry, stew in his feelings, etc. It annoys the hell out of his entire family. Leo often gets over it quickly.
Leo fixated on Usagi differently because he was introduced to Usagi differently. Leo actually saved him from being mugged, which is the first time Leo had ever felt like an actual hero. This sent him into a complete spiral of obsession, and now Leo only and will only ever have eyes for Usagi.
His dynamic with Usagi -
Leo is an abuser. He is Usagi's abuser. He manipulates him, physically/mentally/emotionally harms him, etc.
Leo does not insult, slap, punch, or put down Usagi. Leo is very verbally affectionate to Usagi, which is one of the reasons people do not pick up on what is really happening.
Leo will bite, shove, pin, yank, choke, throw, or restrain Usagi. He is very controlling of Usagi's movement.
Leo does not explicitly put Usagi down, but will make Usagi feel powerless, dependent, etc. As example, Leo would NEVER say "You're nothing without me", but he WOULD say "where would you be without me?"
Usagi barters time and affection with Leo to get Leo to let him do what he wants. Leo often only properly upholds these deals around half the time. This could be holding hands for 10 minutes so that Usagi can go to the store with his brothers, etc etc. Leo is very much giving "changed the terms at the last moment" vibes.
Leo would become a husk of a person if he lost Usagi. He would slaughter anyone in his way if they tried to take Usagi (except his brothers, ofc.) Everyone is very aware of the fact Leo would act out violently if Usagi tried to leave him.
This is not to say Leo will always pick Usagi. If it is a life-or-death, no other option situation, Leo will pick his family over Usagi instantly, no hesitation, nothing. He will mourn afterward, though.
Leo's favoritism -
If Leo loves someone, in his mind, they can do no wrong. He will make excuses, ignore facts, and twist the narrative to remove blame from that person. He may also find a scapegoat to blame the behavior on instead.
If two people Leo loves are fighting, he doesn't pick sides. He will completely ignore the problem and say that it doesn't matter.
Leo is very much of the opinion that 'its in the past, so it doesn't matter.' So what people say, actions they take, past trauma, etc. Doesn't matter to him. This could be contributed to his memory problems as well.
After a fight, Leo will comfort the one that he thinks is more upset, aka more 'in need of support.' Typically, this will be Usagi.
Leo's power level -
Leo is the most dangerous of his brothers, WITH his sword. He could easily take any of his brothers down with it.
Without his sword, Leo is the weakest of his brothers. Leo is not good at hand-to-hand combat, and his fighting style completely relies on his sword and portals.
Fun facts -
Leo's favorite food is candied strawberries. He loves anything sweet or fruity.
Leo loves play wrestling and will often get very invested in any fights he gets in with his brothers or Usagi.
Leo has an extremely good pain tolerance. He would be able to walk on a broken leg and barely even register it.
Leo is a mystic prodigy, and his teleporting ability is entirely self-taught. It is much more sporadic and 'glitchy' than Rise, but Leo is still able to get things where they need to go. Leo's swords can split, and be either 1 or 2 weapons. 1 sword can create solid, doorway-like portals. 2 swords mean Leo can teleport between them, if he throws or embeds them in something.
Leo loves pop music, as well as 60s-90s Spanish music. He has an antique radio that he loves to listen to. Leo will also listen to rap/dubstep/hip-hop for Mikey and Don.
Leo loves rom-coms, and that is where Leo gets most of his ideas of love/romance from. He does not watch good rom-coms.
Leo babies his brothers quite a lot, but it is out of genuine care and adoration.

multimuse meme
( 25 MUSES. ) Athos, Count de la Fère || Baby Groot || Belladonna Hellstrom || Chernabog || Devian Hellstrom || Devon Adler || Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto) || Garrett (Breaking Dawn) || Hades (slightly myth divergent) || Ilona (Underworld films) || James Conrad || Joe MacMillan || Jonathan Pine || Khan Noonien Singh (John Harrison) || Morticia Addams || Pietro Maximoff || Rhett Butler || Ronan the Accuser || Set || Sherlock Holmes (BBC) || Smaug || Soren (Underworld OC) || Stephen Strange || Thor Odinson || Viktor (Underworld films)
⚔ which muse is the most likely to go to jail/prison: A couple (Erik, Khan, Pietro, and Sherlock) have been in prison. Out of the other 22 muses left, I’d say James would end up in prison because he pissed off someone in a bar or somewhere else.
☠ which muse is The Worst™: Viktor. Just look at what he did to his daughter and unborn grandchild.
👅 which muse is the kinkiest: They all have a bit of kink in them, but I’d say Joe is. I mean he literally ‘turned someone on’ by clamping his hand around a live current.
💑 who would make the best couple of two of your muses together: As a romantic couple, I would so get behind a Sherlock x Morticia pairing. As a platonic couple ( aka FRIENDS ), Baby Groot and Thor would rule.
💔 who would be the worst couple of two of your muses together: Khan and Ronan. I mean put two ‘freedom fighters’ together and....yeah. Nope. Nothing but chaos.
👑 which muse is most likely to take over the world: Chernabog, simply because he’s the most powerful. And he already says he has. By corrupting people with evil.
👎 which muse secretly (or not so secretly) loves terrible movies: Pietro. He’s adventurous with everything, and he loves watching movies during his free time. It doesn’t matter what ratings those movies have.
😍 which muse is the biggest heart breaker: Joe, hands down. Though I think Garrett was a bit of a heartbreaker too. Until he met Kate and settled down.
💎 which muse is the biggest drama queen: Ronan the Accuser. *eyes those villain monologues*
🍒 which muse is the most innocent: BABY GROOT. Come on.
🎭 which muse is the easiest to write: It depends on who I have the largest inspiration for.
🌛 which muse is the biggest dreamer: Jonathan. He doesn’t look it, but he’s a dreamer.
🐢 which muse always runs late: Devian. He always thinks that everyone else is early. Or a stickler for the time.
🌉 which muse is most consumed by wanderlust: Soren. He’s been stuck in the Nordic coven for centuries and has only started traveling.
🏠 which muse is a happy homebody: Pietro. For someone who can travel at the speed of light, he’s most content at home.
👛 which muse is the most frugal: Sherlock. No shows of wealth from this one.
👠 which muse loves shopping sprees: Belladonna, definitely. She’s not as bad as her sisters, but she still loves shopping.
🎉 which muse loves planning parties: Ilona. Viktor’s the one who has to ‘endure’ them all.
💕 which muse falls in love too easily: Oh god. I’d say...Pietro. Main issue is getting through his twin sister.
👍 which muse would you most likely get along with: Either Pietro or Thor. Putting me with someone who’s quiet would be a disaster.
🔪 which muse would you most likely be enemies with: Viktor. xD
🍕 which muse is a terrible cook: Hades. He’s great with gardening, but not so much with food.
😔 which muse is the biggest spoilsport: SHERLOCK. He doesn’t even know he’s doing it sometimes.
💘 which muse have you written the longest: Sherlock. He was the second muse I had. :) The first being Loki.
💪 which muse is a health nut: Athos. I don’t see him eating a lot of snacks.
🐷 which muse is most likely to win a pie eating contest: THOR.
🎨 which muse is the most artistic: Devon. He draws sometimes.
🍁 which is the most introverted and/or extroverted?
INTROVERTED: Sherlock.
EXTROVERTED: Thor.
tagged by: @seekingxredemption ( thank you! :D )
tagging: @sultrysupernaturals, @clsegador, @ofmuscs, @muiitos, & other multimuses i may have forgotten

💜💉Donnie Hamato💉💜
Tumblr media
Specific trigger warnings -
Animal abuse/cruelty/death/experimentation/consumption, sensory meltdowns, unethical experimentation, medical malpractice, objectification, sadism, murder, violence, heavy gore, minor/moderate body horror, needles, blades, electrocution
Specific boundaries w/ this character -
Do not ship Donnie unless it is a QPR and you ask for permission.
General info -
Donnie's birthday is October 28th. He is a Scorpio ♏️
Donnie's love languages are Gifts and Acts of Service.
Donnie is Aromantic/Asexual. He identifies as Voidpunk, with his gender relating to robots, spiders, bugs, and needles.
Donnie has ASPD (Antisocial Personality Disorder).
Donnie has Autism.
Personality traits -
Donnie is sadistic, anti-social, controlling, intelligent, protective, innovative, practical, apathetic, logical, and determined.
Donnie enjoys seeing others in pain, especially if he deems them as weaker. While he enjoys the sound of things screaming in pain, he dislikes the sound of crying. Donnie is the most likely to stretch out any torture he is doing on his subject for an extended period of time.
Donnie is anti-social, and doesn't care to talk to people outside of his family and Ishida. Any other communication is considered a burden to him, and he is always short and curt.
Donnie is a control freak, and wants everyone and everything to bow to his every command. He hates when his things are broken as well. He will lash out if not listened to, typically at Ishida.
Donnie is extremely protective of his loved ones and his things. He constantly tracks them and will do everything in his power to keep them healthy and working.
Donnie is the main tech guy, and is always constantly improving his inventions and research. He has security all throughout the Lair, tracking systems for all of his family, an extremely advanced battleshell, and more.
Donnie is extremely determined, bordering on stubborn. He never gives up on a project once he has started it, no matter how many sleepless nights it takes.
Important details -
His prosthetics -
Donnie's prosthetics are all made by his own hands and scrap he's found. He's always reworking them to make them better.
They are waterproof, fireproof, and bullet resistant.
Donnie rarely takes off his prosthetics, only when completely necessary, such as upkeep or when he is going to be submerged in water for a long period of time.
Donnie's hearing aids have multiple volume sessions, from complete mute, to white noise, to regular volume, etc.
His hearing aids also have fins. Those both allow Donnie to connect to wifi/internet, and they are sensors to detect new people, objects around him, danger, etc. They also react to how he is feeling. The fins will retract if his hearing aids are muted, off, or charging.
His blindness/hearing loss/amputations -
Donnie's hearing loss was gradual. It started when he was 8 and was fully gone by time he was 13. It was caused from a mix of explosions, too-loud music, and lack of ear protection around loud machinery.
Donnie fully lost his hearing in a land-mine accident in the lair games at 13.
Donnie's left knee was severely damaged in the same accident, AKA his leg below the knee was completely blown off. Donnie ended up being able to reattach it, as he was too emotionally connected to leave it behind.
Domnie lost his right finger at 12 years old from a broken bench saw flying at his face. He got his eye scarred/lost vision in it in the same accident, when the blade subsequently lodged into his head.
His relationship with Big Mama -
Donnie dislikes Big Mama, but also deeply wants Big Mama's praise and approval. Big Mama does not care about Donnie, and finds him somewhat annoying.
Donnie often will attempt to make technology that BM can use in her Battle Nexus, but most of it goes thrown out.
Donnie dislikes Draxum, because Big Mama heavily prefers his technology and research to Donnie's.
Donnie folds to almost anything Big Mama asks him to, with the promise of approval and appreciation of his work. Then afterward, he will be very upset he fell for the manipulation. He will fall for it again, though.
His relationship with Ishida -
Donnie sees Ishida as his friend. Donnie would never admit this to anyone intentionally.
Donnie is Ishida's doctor as well, and works hard to keep up with his health and work to help Ishida function as efficiently as possible. He takes great pride in his work with Ishida and gets incredibly frustrated when Ishida does not follow training routines/diets/schedules assigned by him.
Donnie is very controlling of Ishida. He wants to be listened to, and gets extremely angry when Ishida blows off his instruction, or doesn't drop everything to respond to Donnie's call.
Donnie is extremely jealous of anyone Ishida chooses to be around, and Donnie often threatens/harms anyone he believes does Ishida wrong (which is most people).
Ishida is one of the few people Donnie let's touch him, mostly as a 'reward' system for things Donnie wants Ishida to do. This same logic applies to words of affirmation.
Donnie is also very sadistic to Ishida, and he enjoys running experiments/flat out torturing Ishida for research or his own amusement. This includes breaking bones, electrocution, laceration, sleep deprivation, and more. Donnie abuses Ishida's people-pleasing and masochistic tendencies.
His 'mind my own business'/peacekeeping mentality -
Donnie doesn't care for drama, and goes out of his way to avoid any issue between his brothers and the rabbits.
This means he keeps certain things secret, such as Usagi's self harm.
Another reason is that he doesn't often care about the problem, and figures that certain things 'aren't his business', so he doesn't care to share it to people that it may effect or involve until it's all boils over.
This makes Donnie very unlikely to snitch, though, and he's often the one the others go to to tell him their secrets. Donnie dislikes this.
His relationship with Shelldon -
Donnie, while he may not act like it, absolutely adores Shelldon.
Donnie is very proud of his work on Shelldon, and treats him similar to a puppy, or his child.
Donnie is also not above smashing Shelldon and restarting on his wiring if need be, but that hasn't happened anytime recently.
Donnie spoils Shelldon a lot, and will defend him vehemently from his brothers trying to smash him.
Fun facts -
Donnie has a very picky, yet somehow wide pallete. He has a strong stomach, and he uses it to eat anything from sour candy, to pet dogs, to iron nails.
Donnie's favorite food is kimchi, and his favorite drink is lemon juice. He loves all sour/tangy things.
Donnie's teeth are like a shark. They are constantly falling out and being replaced by new ones.
Donnie's need to build things often overpowers his need to seem aloof and apathetic, and he often makes things for the people around him that make their life easier, such as noise-cancelling headphones for Mari.
