I'm definitely approaching this too much as an adult out to nitpick rather than remembering that this is for kids and it doesn't matter when G.U.N. became so prominent or how and when they got their hands on X macguffin, but idk I feel like the first 2 movies were paying some degree of attention to stuff like that so this just sticks out to me.

Episode 2 thoughts: actually not just Wade but I think nobody is funny or really all that entertaining to watch. I don't think the Sonic movies are great or anything but this feels aggressively like we're just going through the motions. I need a hero scene was kind of torture. I appreciate Knuckles gliding anyway since that's one of those things that's acknowledged surprisingly little despite being a core part of his gameplay in every playable appearance he's had.

Episode 3 thoughts: my favourite so far on the sheer absurdity of a lonely Jewish mother whose husband left the family and whose kids hate each other finding solace and comfort in Knuckles the Echidna and teaching him about Judaism

Episode 4 thoughts: absolutely indescribable experience. felt like a high budget fan parody. I was juggling so many feelings through my head while watching, reaching each end of the quality spectrum - this is both incredibly kino and also one of the worst things to ever grace the Sonic franchise. one must actively sever any interest in pretending this is something that should be taken seriously in order to enjoy it, although in doing so one must also acknowledge that the Knuckles show on paramount plus is now but a joke. the same Sonic movie franchise that rejuvenated public interest in the franchise has also birthed unto us a mockery of everything the series has ever stood for. Wade Whipple stole a kid's bicycle and chopped off a man's ponytail with a katana before then forcing that man to undress.

Episode 5 thoughts: this is straight up more enjoyable when consumed as a bizarre and surreal anthology but with a continual plot wherein the anthology part of it is just what is gonna be the directorial fetish of the episode. in this case it's several instances of shots being split across comic-style panelling or the same frame repeated in grid-patterns across the screen, things like that. that type of shot for bowling for 10 minutes and then a heartwarming emotional reunion with an estranged father turned heartwrenching as Jewish mother recounts the fact that he hurt us before and he's going to do it again. I almost forgot I was watching a Sonic the Hedgehog show until the bad guys showed up and reminded us that Knuckles the Echidna does actually exist in the show named after him. I'm starting to think this show is seriously worth watching entirely because it's so ludicrously detached from its source material and absurd in everything else it chooses to depict. The dialogue is so unnatural it's hilarious. Everybody has a certain voice they're doing for the camera and it's all super exaggerated. Wade actually betrays Knuckles in the end and I'm about to watch the last episode to see what happens.

I don't even know how to succintly put into words how much fun I was having with this by the end. And I do mean by the end - you can see the progression of my enjoyment after each episode in this post itself - but it really is kind of slow and annoying to start until it eventually reaches such a level of absurdity that I turned off Sonic fan brain and turned on "I want to laugh at batshit insane media" brain. Once it got to that point though I was so fucking invested that I was feeling everything. I wanted Wade to start throwing bowling balls at the buyer so fucking bad and he did. The electric guitar kicking in when Knuckles powered back up and became the flames of disaster or whatever was the most excited I've been watching anything in a while. The juxtaposition between a serious emotional tale about broken families and standing up against those who have hurt you versus Wade Whipple in a Knuckles costume having a musical performed at him about the strength of the heart or whatever is immaculate.

I feel like this show was greenlit and allocated a budget before they actually decided anything they wanted to do with it so they just wrote some vague story outline and handed each episode off to a different director to see what they could come up with. The few who played it a little more safe, kid's action show type thing, didn't really offer much. But the ones who decided to have fun with it and just not even care about the source material, those are the ones that turned out really fun.

I will acknowledge right now obviously that none of that is exactly praise from the lens of a Sonic fan. This isn't good at being Sonic in any way, it's not even good at being part of the separate and standalone Sonic movie continuity either. Calling it disrespectful to the source material is an understatement and even the times where it decides to pull from what it's adapting you get absolutely bizarre errors like the Flames of Disaster being singularly attributed to Knuckles just for the hell of it. This should not be thought of as a serious attempt at telling a story within any Sonic the Hedgehog setting. This is a high budget parody that, through circumstances we'll never quite know, is also an officially licensed and endorsed Sonic the Hedgehog product. It's the worst Sonic adaptation ever. It's also so fucking entertaining and I would honestly recommend it to just about anyone. I'm literally already lining up a rewatch with some friends. It's so fucking fun. Like there's an element of irony and there's an element of so bad it's good and perhaps all of this is birthed by that and me being in a state of "I just finished something absurd and need to process it so I'm just yelling" but as a lifelong diehard Sonic fan who yearns for nothing more than good quality Sonic content I had more actual fun with this than almost any other Sonic adaptation period. This shit, my friends, is kino. And Wade Whipple is my new favourite Sonic character.

2024 February Media Post Thingy : Featuring Movies Also

I've never really liked doing editing " do-overs". i think if this was like a normal year with no leaping ( As of starting this post a couple of minutes ago ( 4:51 PM ) , i only just learned that this year was a leap year? Just goes to show how little i pay attention..! But yea, on topic, on topic, i don't look back to edit these kind of thought pieces after i write them, it'd feel odd to do so, ,and january's post was a mile and a half to write , so, after finishing the Big Thing for this year, i'm starting the writing on this on the 28th so i dont have to finish it all in one sitting this time. I'm not sure when i'll drop or pick up on it, and its not like, done Live with the month, so the actual timeline of things won't be completely perfectly accurate, but anyways : the things covered here are in rough sequencial order, mostly focused around New Media i've tried this month, with an added blurb about anything ive revisited this year at the very end. I'll try to add a blurb about everything, but no guarentees. Also, i said i'd have more screenshots to share, but i forgot again. A significant number of games here were also on 3ds which i have no good way to get screenshots for. planning is hard This month was heavily characterized by the absolutely wonderful time i had for my birthday and the days surrounding it, because wow, am i in love with my boyfriend! after many, many months spent long distance, i'm extremely glad to say that the first few days of this month were absolutely heavenly, and i do absolutely "get" all the lovey dovey emotional stuff that surrounds it. While he was over, we got to watch a whole bunch of different movies and such, and most of the video game focus was directed towards one big game, being God Of War Ragnarok, which is an absolute behemoth of a triple a game and also one aattached to the very sentimental god of war that i've also shared with him in the past ( they're some of his favorite games of all time, and he's especially knowledge on Norse stuff, so it's cute to listen to him ramble about it whenever actual mythology stuff comes up. Its absolutely adorable the way his voice lights up..! ) So, you'd expect the first piece of media i got through this month would be God of War Ragnarok, after all the time i've spent hyping it up already, while it's still fresh in my mind as of typing, And i'm on a massive, sentimental tangent on it, But...! TRUMP VS ILLUMINATI < Least Romantic Movie I've Personally Made Out With Someone Over >

theres not all that much to say on this movie as the title'd show, actually, and, obviously, the movie's a complete joke, through and through ( the titular protagonist isn't even the real deal, he's just a clone of the guy who lives on mars for whatever reason as the last human alive (?) ); and it's so ameturishly put together that i'm almost certain the entire scripting process of it was put together by looking at the title of the movie and quipping in a discord call brainstorming for a couple of hours, but it's absolutely great for virgining couples beccause you'll want to watch the movie for a bit, a bit that's been going on for i want to say little over three quarters of a year, but then, when you actually get to watching, it, you'lll both decide unilaterally to make out sloppy style instead of watching the movie, wow!

the docism i picked for this game sounds demeaning but thhis game is absolutely worth i think everyones time and if theres a game from febuary i'd make as a general reccomendation to my friends, it'd be this one, i think! it's an absolutely heartwarming narrative about an early 2000s era internet community that's being shut down, and its very resonant to at least Me, as a wii u / 3ds era fan

though it kinda melds that kinda stuff with a more early internet aestetic , which i think the combo works Really Well in terms of like vibe alone. the game is very naked with how it presents an early internet community and id describe it as being like hypnospace outlaw but without you the player being in the seat of like an internet moderator. Like you can moderate in the game a little bit but it's much less of a focus compared to the being in a game community with your friend aspect

this games a very well executed narrative about this emmet guy ( in the image above this one, he's on the far left of the screen ) and playing it as the first non GOW game of the week was definitely a choice i made that made me kinda sappy and clingy ( since its very much about the internet anxiety of losing a bunch of friends you care about due to dumb internet social media crap, which feels pretty well timed with this whole tumblr drama going on. also, as someone in a long distance relationship, the romance thing in this game also is pretty relatable in parts )

this is a free top down shmup game from steam about a cute healer girl! the game has really cute writing and is about an hour long. i think the writing makes it worth giving a try if you have an afternoon! the final boss is litearlly a guy with Every Disease that also has a refrence to ff6, so me being charmed by this game was kind of a given. Oops! I think more people should look at this game! it's worth it !

as someone whose never played a dynasty warriors type game this was actually a little less boring then i was expecting it ? you'd assume picking the switch or wii u version would be more ideal, but, as someone whose favorite console is the 3ds , and considering it'd take less time to download to my system, i ended up picking this version. it actually runs pretty well and my only real complaint is that the character i wanted to play as is thuroughly stuck into the post game ( Celica from FE echoes ).

functionally this is kind of just a game that exists to be a stim device while you're in like a voice call or something but at that its pretty good from what ive played. used minerva for most of it and it wasnt too hard but not especially annoying either. its okay. i never got to unlock celica though ( bummed out ) and its not bad at all for somemthing i pretty much only played to pass the time between when my BF was awake to watch me play god of war, which it succeeded at. ive played every FE naturally available on the 3ds. game i actually owned legitimately that i forgot i did. technically since the games are going down in a month from now this is my way on reminicing on Maker in general , but i mostly just reflected back on itt as a cute wii u memory and that cute packet that comes boxed with the game. the 100 or so challenge levels in this are neat but not Especially special. kind of existed to pad out the games i've tried and finished this year so far to an even 15. its not bad or anything, it did remind me of a few interactions i didnt know about before. maybe sometime before maker 2 goes down ill finish making that super world i started on when the game was new... putting all my thoughts togetherrrrr GOD OF WAR RAGNAROK

I've heard of games that take up entire segments of people's lives for months , and while i've played lots of " longer " games, gow despite being shorter then something like SMT 4 is definitely one of the first games i've played thats been defined like that to me. i dont wanna say too much on the plot because i think these games are worth playing back to back on their own merits, though for me the experience definitely was raised above by , you know, sharing it with the love of my life, haha. its very cute to listen to someone visibly light up when talking about a game and its definitely my boyfriends infectiousness for the game that motivated me to keep coming back to it and dig for all the little details, even if i play 3d games like this like a game's journalist.... but yea god of war is really good i dont want to spoil anything on it but even if you haavent played the past games but have a ps4 and an appreciation for storytelling, i'd definitely reccomend it. Surprisingly cozy, heartfelt story on parenting and war and lingering regret n junk. also i like mimir alot hes silly and brok theres alot of characters in this i like alot

I’ve been doing pretty great honestly. I got through my finals and I actually did quite well :)). I didn’t take the biology exam though because holy fuck I can’t even do simple math and we were supposed to do crazy equations, no calculators allowed💀. So yeah, didn’t study at all and woke up in a cold sweat like three days before the exam and quickly set myself on inactive because I would’ve definitely fucking flunked it. But English went great, got one of the best grades out of the entire course for my presentation I was sweating buckets over beforehand, linguistics went well as well and the rest was just pass or fail and fortunately I passed but I’m still waiting on a feedback for my pedagogy portfolio. Speaking of waiting, I spent weeks in February working on my art portfolio and applied for art school and I’m waiting for a response to that, too.

I also finally read “The song of Achilles” but it sadly didn’t earn its place next to my favorites, like, it was actually only three stars for me if I’m really honest. Currently I’m reading “Persuasion” (I’m about half way through) and that books actually pretty great but the first like 80 pages are just like, set up lmao. But after that it quickly gets better!!! I haven’t continued reading in a couple of days though which I should absolutely do soon because the new semester starts in two weeks and then idk how much time I’ll have to read. I’m actually taking British and American literature classes in the new semester which I’m pretty excited about!!!!

Oh boy, I also finally watched s5 of Miraculous and the alternate universe Paris special and the movie and bro, s5 was an absolute dumpster fire…. Actually fucking insane. But the Paris special was kinda entertaining lol, and I can’t lie…. the movie was pretty good. Like… it was honestly great hahahah. I also watched Cars btw! I have watched the first part before but never the rest and then my sister wanted to watch Cars so we did and yeah, Cars is amazing ofc. I also finally watched But I’m a Cheerleader which was all over the okays but it was funny and I loved the ending. I’m trying to remember what else I watched but I don’t remember anything else… hmmm… Oh!! Omg, I watched Christopher Robin and I didn’t not except that movie to be as good as it was. I was in genuine tears over fucking everything and yeah, very enjoyable. I also watched The Sixth Sense which was good, did not see the plot twist coming though, Like, spoiler! I literally remember thinking “oh.. so he survived I guess” when it says “next fall” like a fucking idiot 😭. I don’t think I watched any other movies though.

Wait, I also read the entirety of Jackson’s diary on webtoon and it was a fucking roller coaster.

Other than that I’ve been hanging a lot with my friends, especially those who moved to another city for university. There’s this café we always and in the past two weeks we’ve gone three times and you can borough games to play and we usually play scrabble which is always sm fun!

Oh and holy shit, I turned fucking 20!?!?! Absolutely batshit insane, I cannot believe it.

Also, I just kinda left tumblr very like, impulsively because I had finals coming up and thought it’d be distracting, but also, tumblr tends to suck the life out of me sometimes so I thought taking a break would be worth it either way. After finals where over I then had to work on my art portfolio and I have a huge procrastination problem so I stayed off tumblr because I knew it would make it worse and so I just left and didn’t reply to anyone, which, I’m sorry, I missed you and the other mutuals so much but I also don’t think that many people even noticed that I took a break in the first place. Anyway,I’ll probably dip when Uni starts again as well but I thought it’d be nice to catch up with y’all before that happens.

What do you think about movies with a really simple story like the two Avatar movies?

I haven't seen the second one and don't really plan to, but also don't plan not to. I just don't care about it, lol. If someone begs me to watch it with them, I probably would, but I'm not like, marking my calendar like I did with Glass Onion.

A simple, retold, cliche story is not inherently bad--there are reasons certain tropes get popular! Hence, "simplistic story" and "Avatar" can be two separate discussions. Yes, Avatar's an example of a simplistic story (at least the first one is) but, does it work? On what levels does it work or not work? What stands out to people from the film? What do they come away talking about?

For the first one, it was mostly the visuals. Which is fine. Visuals are a part of film. But I'd suggest the story was lacking because no one discussed it. It's framed as a complex story, but it's not, and that complexity is kind of "well, because the world is awesome and it parallels issues in our own world!" But do those parallels have interesting commentary? Glass Onion does. Knives Out does. These are very different films from Avatar, of course, but I'm pointing out that parallels can be done really well. I am not sure the first Avatar's was. And of course what one person finds interesting another might not, so it's subjective. But again, on the whole, there was a consensus that Avatar was not particularly interesting in its social commentary.

For me personally, I remember going into it excited because I've liked other films by Cameron, like True Lies and of course, Titanic, but this one just fell flat for me. But also I've seen it once when I was in like, high school. I didn't remember the character names, the specific plot besides the obvious storyline, or any themes that really struck me because they weren't really themes other stories haven't done better/more provocatively. Like, Cameron himself had done Avatar's themes and storylines better (Titanic's Rose and Jack are much more interesting than the Avatar couple whose names I don't recall). It didn't really get at my emotions either. Cool world though.

I've also heard people say Avatar had no cultural impact really, and I think I'd agree in regards to its story. The characters weren't interesting enough to spawn fandoms, and like I said above, the themes weren't compelling enough to provoke discussions and debates.

I haven't seen Avatar 2, so I can't say more about that generally.

I will, however, say it is funny to me to see the circular logic of people arguing "NO IT DEFINITELY HAD CULTURAL IMPACT" just because the second one is making a ton of money. Like. "It made a ton of money but had no impact" was kind of the main argument about the first one, with "but" being kind of a key point? "The sequel is making a ton of money now so clearly it has cultural impact because it's making a ton of money" is literally just. Missing the point.

It's too soon to comment on the sequel's cultural impact. Idk, maybe the characters are more interesting or it has themes that provoke discussion. I haven't seen much of that thus far though, but also, who knows.

Anyways, "cool fun" is fine and a good enough reason to enjoy entertainment. Apathy isn't the same as virulent dislike, and virulent dislike is more likely to have cultural impact. I wouldn't call Avatar badly written in any way, but I would call the story of the first boring.

I wrote up a big post about my thoughts on Bottoms, the other movie I watched last night, but then I just saved it to my drafts instead like a good person. I just be brief(er) and say that it had a lot of really good one-liners and I laughed a lot, but I felt like the movie had tonal issues that prevented me from liking it as much as I thought I would.

Like, it couldn't seem to decide if it wanted to be a slightly weird (but largely realistic) comedy like Mean Girls or if it wanted to go OTT awful-things-as-humor like a John Waters film or something.

I really believe that if you want us to laugh about characters doing really cruel things, you have to keep up that OTT energy the entire time. Otherwise, it doesn't feel funny. It just feels kind of uncomfortable and cruel. I think this most strongly affected Hazel's storyline, but it really cropped up a lot throughout the movie. Like... am I supposed to take this abuse seriously or not? Y'all need to choose.

(It is, I say with a heavy heart, a similar problem to Glee.)

But... I didn't hate it or anything, and when it hit, it really hit. I like Ayo Edebiri a lot in the film and enjoyed her character (even if I didn't feel like every other character or... most of the relationships... were quite as successful) so that was entertaining.

I hope it does well just so we get more lesbian comedies, tbh, but. idk. I don't think I'll ever end up watching it again.

Thots and Feelings on Thor 4

As a Thorkyrie shipper this was a tough look, but I was wholly prepared to go in there hating hard on another rehashed romance between Thor and Jane… And although that happened, I think preparing myself for it was for the best. I still enjoyed the movie. It was a little cringey and quirky at times, but was still very entertaining. I go to the movies and watch tv to escape, so as long as I am transported to some place that is not this traumatic ass rock I am fine.

Be that as it may, I feel like this entire movie was made to retcon how terrible Jane was in the first two and so by doing that they totally retconned all of the important people that Thor grew to love and form relationships with from Ragnarok to Endgame. They literally had to make a damn romcom relationship montage segment for them because they literally have 0 chemistry 😭 Valkyrie was totally played to the left and it really did not make sense but again, I was expecting that based on the promotion of the film. It’s funny because Chris and Tessa work so well together that even with the few scenes they did share, they sparkled. They literally have the same mind. I am letting go of anything romantic happening between them in future films (for my own peace of mind) but the chemistry between the two actors is really what gets me through as member of the Thorkyrie community. I look forward to more exploration of their dynamic in future installments!🥴

The whole “feminist” movement in the MCU is really funny to me because it’s never done naturally or seamlessly at all. It’s always call me the “male-name of my male counterpart” or like yes she can do what he does too! And it just doesn’t feel genuine to me. What would have been nice was when Asgard was in chaos and everyone got silent when Thor was speaking, if he would’ve told them to listen to their king, Valkyrie… You know the person he appointed, but no. The BW is just a King in name only and turned Asgard into a tourist trap?? IDK something about it doesn’t sit quite right and that’s why this whole Gaslight, GirlBoss, Gatekeep shit in the MCU is just so bleh to me. I’d rather watch movies about white men destroying the planet than they try to pander to me in this way. But it’s good for the younger generations EYE guess…

The kids parts of the movie, though very Disney, were hella cute not gonna lie. And Thor becoming a father I did not expect but I actually LOVED that ending. Like give me a movie about Thor, his kid, and Valkyrie next please and thank you!

There’s more chemistry here than the all of the ThorJane moments in all three movies but I digress….

FINALLY I got to see barbie!!!!!!

I had my whole pink outfit ready, and ended up carrying a(n also pink) backpack with extra accessories for my friends (because I KNEW they didn't have almost anything in pink, and I was right)

The movie was really fun!! it had surprisingly touching moments, the choreography was very cool and the sets and costumes were to die for, all around a very fun and entertaining movie with a feminist message and themes that a lot of women will resonate with, though it's good to remember this movie was basically made to sell more barbie products(I guess it's kinda like the lego movie in that regard)

I don't like how the teenage girl talked, it seemed way too detailed? Idk it felt like the script throwing around buzzwords.

The beach scene was very funny, I was trying my best to contain my laughter but I failed lol.

The fact that barbie and ken didn't end up together romantically makes me genuinely very happy, as it would have undermined the message from the movie(but also that means I get to headcanon her as aroace :D)

Also, the part with barbie and Ruth Handler almost made me cry, and I say almost because one of my friends made a funny noise right on a part were they were silent and I snickered.

The fact the corporate guys are only vaguely a threat that's there and don't change or lose kinda left me miffed, but again, this IS a movie being made by corporations, so maybe they couldn't make them completely evil.

Also, can we talk about how barbie doesn't fix everything by the end of the movie? And yet the ending is so hopeful about the future?

Also when we came out of the movie theater the ice cream place I buy milkshakes at was already closed so I missed a chance at buying a raspberry milkshake AGAIN

Had a three-day weekend and saw all the movies. Well, three of them. 

Mission Impossible: Would be an A+ if not for a couple things. 

Indiana Jones: I can’t really think of anything that annoyed me about it, but I watched it after MI. A few similar set pieces and MI being a better experience overall make it good but not the best thing I saw. Not really fair, but hey. 

Barbie: It had its moments. The trailer was better. 

Elaboration with spoilers:

Mission Impossible was nearly impossible to beat. However, the Russians speaking English with Russian accents and too much exposition make it not perfect. Subtitle the opening scene and trim down the poetic audience hand-holding and you’ve got the perfect summer action movie experience.

Dial of Destiny was a nice ending for Indy, imho. And I thought Ford did a very good job with it. 

It could be annoying that it always has to be Nazis, but it was okay. And as plot convenient as it is that they wound up in the same era they had been talking about all movie long, it worked for me. 

Indy able to actually witness the history he loves. The tragedy of him feeling he has nothing tying him to the present. Me actually rooting for him to stay back there so he could have some morsel of happiness, only to thankfully have my mind changed by the ending. I just thought it was bittersweet and lovely. 

Barbie. Alas, I caved to tumblr hype and funny trailers. It was a mixed bag. I chuckled a few times. I think I would have liked it better if I watched it in my living room. 

I just have to ask: do people really think this deeply about dolls? Is that a thing? That’s really weird. Then again I never had a barbie. Maybe she’s what messes people up, idk. I had a water baby. It was squishy. I liked the squishy. 

My favorite part was the ending between Barbie and the woman who created her. I’ve always said that the people who sell beauty are just average-looking schlubs trying to put their kids through college. 

You’re supposed to look at a model on a magazine cover and go, ‘oooh. pretty. I will buy it and take it home so i can longer look at the pretty.’ Not ‘I’m not as pretty as that product. I hate myself now.’ 

Yeah, 90% of people aren’t that pretty. Including the people selling you the pretty. They just bait the hook with pretty so you’ll buy it. It pays for the rest of us ugly schlubs who write the articles, who photograph, who sort mail in the mail room. The pretty is a product; it’s a mcdonald’s cheeseburger, not the basis for your self-esteem. At least it shouldn’t be. For every gorgeous actor there are fifty overweight balding dudes holding lights on their face so they can pay their mortgage. 

I also like to look at the pretty. I like complication too. I like a story. I like an interesting face. More than one type of bait works on me. 

I did like the few lovely moments of Barbie connecting with real people, of embracing the beautiful mess of real life. Thought Margot did a great job. 

In conclusion: 

If you want to watch a bittersweet send off to a beloved character, watch Dial of Destiny. If you want to be entertained, watch Dead Reckoning. If you want to sort through a complicated mess of social and political talking points and write tumblr screeds about them, watch Barbie.

Rambles abt g5 bc I have brainrot

-I rlly like that Pipp is shorter than the rest of the cast, I think it’s rlly neat

-Opaline is such a fun camp villain and I love her, sure she doesn’t have as much depth as other villains but she’s so entertaining and fun and what more can I ask for? Don’t understand why ppl hate her so much (I don’t even think her design is that bad, it’s neat imo)

-I will say her treatment of Misty is a little too real for me, that manipulation hurts man

-It rlly sucks that g5 brushables are so bad because compared to all the other brushables even not as well liked ones like g3.5 and g4.5 they don’t rlly have any charm, which sucks bc I’d love to get some merch of g5 but the brushables just aren’t very good

-The reason Twilight doesn’t look good in g5 is because it IS accurate to g4, and twilight’s design wasn’t made for 3d, the eyebrows being black are good for the style of g4 but in g5 they clash, and she just doesn’t work that well in the g5 style

-Izzy and Sunny are so gay like it’s overt it’s not even funny, I genuinely will not be surprised if they end up together eventually (even if it’s covert like appledash at the end of g4)

-Also Zipp is so overtly trans-coded like again, it’s not even funny, wouldn’t be surprised if they had an episode discussing gender identity especially it’s getting more acceptable to show nonbinary and trans characters in animation (Take Frankie from monster high g3 being nonbinary now)

-I genuinely like the addition of Zipp being all detective like, it’s a fun addition to her character especially since she didn’t have too much screen time in the movie, it also separates her from rainbow dash a lot more

-Hitch being a single Dragon Dad is fun, I love it I just wish they kept more of his traits from the movie, it still seems they’re struggling to write him a bit, it’s getting better tho

-Jazz and the other pony who works at the salon are very neat additions, I like that they’re recurring characters

-I really wish they used more of Sprout, he’s just a background character now and I feel like for such an important part of the movie he should’ve had more stuff

-Same with characters like alphabittle and Phyllis, esp alphabittle like show him again, the two only make small appearances in tyt and I want more

-I really like how a lot of the mane 5 have like, jobs, and shit, it’s neat idk

-I also love that they all live together it’s very cute

-I really like how they’re establishing every character’s insecurities it’s neat and can lead to a lot of good episodes

-I genuinely don’t like how they released all 8 episodes at once, bingeing a series isn’t as fun as watching them weekly plus it gives more time for discussion and stuff

but today i did go out of my comfort zone and watched a movie called medianeras (sidewalls), it's pretty melancholic but i liked it, ( idk why google or some reviews are saying it's funny or rom com 😭, it was actually sad and reflective but had a good ending imo) it's about how urban and internet lifestyle have had the opposite effect on people and have made them feel lonely despite having everything in one click. it was,, different. probably something what i was expecting from chunking express jshdjsjsnns

10. most enjoyable swear word in your native language?

for me personally? "Himmel, Arsch und Zwirn!" if phrases from a dialect I usually try to avoid like a plague counts (I'm just very delighted whenever someone actually uses that phrase, it's so funny), if not "Scheibenkleister" which was my dad's go-to swear word when he wanted/had started to say "Scheiße" but us kids were around so he had to turn it into something else bc didn't want to teach us "bad words", and then it just kinda stuck.

13. does your country (or family) have any specific superstitions or traditions that might seem strange to outsiders?

it's generally considered bad luck if you wish someone an early happy birthday! mostly because you don't want to jinx people to die before their birthday afaik, and while I absolutely love it that people elsewhere are considerate of you to wish you an early birthday and it's not like "oops I forgot it was your birthday BUT I STILL CAN WISH YOU HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY!!" how it oftentimes turns out here, I still can't quite get myself to wish ppl a happy early birthday.

14. do you enjoy your country’s cinema and/or TV?

it depends, but generally speaking, not so much, or at least the more recent (2010 onwards) ones when it comes to cinema. it doesn't help that you oftentimes only have the same 6 actors in the leading role and the plot gets so formulaeic. I really liked our kids/teen movies (can't really talk on the recent ones), one of the big part was that they pretty much always have child/teen actors for the roles and it doesn't get in this weird "they look 25 (bc the actor is 25) but are supposed to be 17". teens look like actual teens. My personal faves were Die Wilden Hühner, there's also generally older movies that are just. good. so good. (can't believe that I'm calling Goodbye Lenin old lmao)

for series, again kid's tv is generally good but idk how much is 100% german, there's many shows that are co-productions and they were very enjoyable as a kid and now when I get in contact with them again, they hold up quite ok. (also I have so much respect for Sendung mit der Maus it's almost unhealthy) there's some (1) crime shows i like to watch, but even there I'm quite picky. In general I like that they aren't as over-dramatised as American police proceduals, they are often even quite funny (and no it's not Tatort, I'm talking about Mord mit Aussicht). Mein Leben & ich was a teen series that I loved to the bones as well. (again, this is all taken from someone who hasn't seen kids TV in quite some time, or German entertainment in general)

also fairytale films? I still prefer the Czech ones bc a landslide but from the 2000s onwards there were a few made by ARD that were quite good. also I want to say that we do have quite good satirical shows

honestly though– what in the world was that ending? like who over at jtbc thought this was a good idea and let the writer have her way??? i'd love to know bc i think what the novel did (no HW in the new life, DJ gets revenge, becomes ceo, marries MY, end) was so much better. yeah it's simple but better than what we got. here the writer wanted to be creative? what was the point of ep 2-15 and all that we've seen DJ go through only to have an ending like that and then explain it with "repentance"? like what...... and it was lined with plotholes like a swiss cheese 😭

so while i enjoyed the drama, the end kinda ruined it for me personally. the novel was about rebirth/revenge and while we watched DJ trying to take over sunyang, all that was naught in the end since we end with HW again and nothing he "did" as DJ ever mattered. by changing the ending, the writer completely fucked the point of the story over. now it's about repentance? why not just make a movie with the plot of ep 1 and 16 and call it a day then? idk. the more i try to make sense of it all the more i don't understand. also such a waste of lee sung mins amazing performance :(

vincenzo will forever haunt me, i feel like i see his face wherever i go i wish i could erase it from my head so i can watch it again. my life drama. anyway.

well i didn't love the drama ngl to you there were fun bits where he fucked his family over but none of that was truly cathartic? and there were too much politics and corporate lingo like i barely followed along. i wrote this in a post too that it will never truly be revenge because the jin family won't know who he is and why he's doing it. revenge is all about looking into your enemy's eyes and letting them know it was you who fucked them over and why you did it. isn't it? so i was wondering how that was going to go, i guess they did that with hyunwoo at the end but it didn't actually matter because the guy who did kill dojun and tried to kill him got to die peacefully in his sleep none the wiser. he got to be the chairman of soonyang for 20 years without any accountability.

the doppelganger thing still bothers me like hyunwoo literally could've been played by any other actor because he was only in the first and last eps and some flashback scenes i don't understand why joongki had to play them both it's just too much suspension of belief for me. plus the thing that bothered me ESPECIALLY that i already talked about is that hyunwoo was supposed to know about dojun's accident. he was literally there and he still couldn't avoid it while he was dojun cause he conveniently forgot it ever happened or idk??? like that shit irks me. don't even get me started on the romance and minyoung's character because it was abismal. i trusted this writer because she wrote designated survivor and it's still one of my favorite dramas and it was very entertaining despite being so political. waited a year for this drama cause it's joongki's project after vincenzo but i guess you win some and you lose some. better luck next time.
